How many Women play this game and what do you think about it?
deepfried replied to PsyStormZ's topic in General Discussion
Its odd, i've played literally hundreds, certainly 1000hrs+ of dayz mod and yet i've never once met a woman in game, or at least that is to say i've not met a player who turned out to be female when speaking. I guess there could be loads of silent women out there. Slightly creepy thought. -
Well, thats my experience anyway, ymmv of course.
-
The main difference between hardcore and regular is that jerks avoid hardcore because of the lack of 1pp. This is why I play exclusively on 3pp servers. Less jerks.

How come the NW airfield is just about the safest place on the map atm?
deepfried replied to naraga's topic in General Discussion
2 out of 3 times I go to NWAF I encounter something, either a fire fight, a fresh body, or spotting someone.. It's still a dangerous place, however its now not so easy to get to, before you could spawn in kamenka and run the road straight north to the airfield, now you're spawning in Berezino or solnichy and if you don't know the map well or have a compass its not an easy journey at all. -
Basically at the moment end game is getting yourself killed, its just a question of how you want to go about it.
-
I think its more that someone wearing a bike helmet favours melee combat protection over stealth... and that give a big clue as to his play style, i.e. he will try to kill you.
-
Look, we can't really know what the development priorities are, just because we see something in a patch doesn't mean its there because it was a priority. Priority might be engine and server work but thats not something the art guy can do, so he keeps working on textures or whatever.
-
That would be abused massively though, many players would just keep on suiciding until they spawned near an airbase or mil base.
-
Well there is your mistake right there, mostly only bandits wear crash helmets.

Take on helicopters is a fork of the arma 2 engine, SA is based on the Take on Helicopters fork. Arma 3 is another fork, but it wasn't mature enough when devlopment of dayz SA started, so really they only has the choice of using the base arma 2 engine or the Take on Helicopters fork, i'm guessing they went with the ToH fork as it has better cloud and weather effects, and is more effecient for some things as it has a lot of unneeded code from the base engine cut out.

Is Sniper too powerfull ? how did the mod handle this?
deepfried replied to Foolz's topic in New Player Discussion
Personally i'm in favour of authentic damage and lethality for weapons in dayz, if that means 1 shot kill to the chest or head with a large calibre rifle (762) then so be it. I think the mitigating factor in this is the sheer scale of the map, a sniper only has an advantage when he knows where you will be, on the dayz map a sniper could camp a random spot on the map and not see anyone for a month, this forces snipers to take up predictable positions overlooking known hotspots, this is the balancing disadvantage. -
Oh, 300 seconds, so long, whatever shall i do with this age of time i have to wait >.>
-
I play exclusively on 3pp:off servers, which now means "hardcore" servers, and I can say a cautious "maybe" to the average denizen being more friendly, i've certainly had more people talk first rather than shoot first, and there seems to be less spawn snipers. That said I mostly koS so, I tend to self select for more hostile encounters.

What is the point of an interruptible timer? it has all of the inconvenience with none of the effectiveness. If you can interrupt the timer and defend yourself then there is no reason not to combat log, you just have to do it in a slight different manner. How do you not see this? you have to be truly vulnerable or there is no deterrent. And thats not just speculation, it was found to be the case in internal testing. Interruptible timers just don't stop people combat logging.
-
I don't really have a "home" server as such, with no private hives and no vehicles/bases there isn't much point. But i tend to pick a server from a poll of about 10 in my history list, in reality that probably means i'm playing on one of about 5 servers most of the time. In any one play session I will stick to the same server unless I need to join a friend or my server goes down.

Goodbye KoS = Crafting: Cannot chamber/load magazine with ruined ammunition
deepfried replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
This. So much this. -
What are you a retard? why do you think those timers were introduced? to address exploits like combat logging, ghosting, and server hopping / loot farming. I.e. cheating. You can't have a meaningful discussion about the timers without referring to their purpose.

Goodbye KoS = Crafting: Cannot chamber/load magazine with ruined ammunition
deepfried replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Sport. Its the only reason I need, any gear I recover is a bonus but its not the main point, not by a long long chalk. There is only one way to stop KoS in Dayz: remove all weapons from the game and remove the ability to punch. -
Thats. The. ENTIRE. Point. If your character isn't vulnerable when you log out then it won't stop combat logging / ghosting anywhere near as effectively. And its not even an issue, i've played hundreds of hours in origins with a logout timer and I've never died when logging out. If you logout in the middle of cherno then you deserve what you get for being a dumbass. Log out nowhere near the coast and not within 300m of a building however and its EXTREMELY unlikely that you will die. This causes zero problems for people who play the game properly. Well, this system has been in dayz mod for well over a year, so I wouldn't count to hard on it being substantially changed. That said, if you're in Electro with "your guys" why not just go into a lootless building and have them cover your ass for 30s....

Congrats to people who hated server hoppers, but was it worth it?
deepfried replied to Rick1633's topic in General Discussion
Gets my vote. -
Stahp Rocket! You're ruining teh Alpha!
deepfried replied to albinorhino's topic in General Discussion
Well, I never have any trouble as a fresh spawn, sure sometimes the first town I get to is looted but then I just head inland anyway. The object of the game is not A) get gun B ) shoot people on coast. Its A) survive B ) survive. Now admittedly survival is too easy at the moment, a player can get geared and have all the food and water they can carry in a few hours... well then you just switch up your play style from "survival" to pvp, then when you eventually die, start again. Honestly the getting geared is the most enjoyable part of the game so I'm almost happy when I eventually get kill and have to start again. -
Yeah thats a decent move actually but to be frank I think it should be longer, its clearly meant to be a deterrent to alt-f4 exploiters and i'm all for that.

30 seconds is a joke, make it 5 MINUTES!
deepfried replied to atmaca (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Yeah 30s works if you're in a close quarters fire fight, but if there is any mid range shooting or sniping then the 30s logout still leaves plenty of room for abuse. You do have to balance between the benefit of reduced combat logging and the risk of your character dying whilst you're out of game. I'd suggest keep it at 30s, but bump it up to 1:30 if you have fired your weapon or been shot at in the last 5 minutes. -
1 bullet from a mosin, most of your stuff is still intact.

The islands offshore on the coasts should have a better purpose rather than it to be sniper hills :/
deepfried replied to rydekk's topic in General Discussion
Once vehicle spawns and base building are in, there will be plenty of reason to go to the islands.
