whatever you do don't get close to zombies if they are facing you, It seems they have a 90 degree sight detection arc right in front of where their body is facing. If they are facing you you want to be 15m away for each notch on the sight indicator, you can get away with less but no need to risk it. Other than that, general rule is don't run in 100m of zombies, dont walk within 50m of zombies, and crawl if they are 20m. Once again you can get away with more but there is just no need to.

Why would you remove the pagefile? the pagefile is only used if its needed, if you remove it all you're doing is ensuring that if an app does run out of memory it will crash.

Rly? I have 6GB and i've never seen any game use more than 2GB. Arma2/dayZ uses about 1.4gb from what i've seen. In short 've i've never come close to running out of physical RAM, though that doesn't mean you wont hit soft limits with 32bit games.

My fears regarding the future of DayZ
deepfried replied to kumiiyo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I didn't say there aren't bugs in this ALPHA build, but even then, if you approach the building slowly enough you will see/hear the zombie before you're in his sight range (in my experience). So, bugs withstanding, patience and due care are the simple and effective solution to getting around zombies. -
Thats a great idea!! and maybe if you kill 5 players in a row you could call in an airstrike!!!

this isnt a suggetion rocket, its a demand.

My fears regarding the future of DayZ
deepfried replied to kumiiyo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
you know lying on the ground doesn't make you invisible... why would you expect that? Also all you have to do is be careful and patient. Zombies don't run unless they've seen you, so there is zero excuse for letting them get close enough to you to see you whilst you're crawling, especially as you can hear them moaning pretty easily even if you cant see them. -
Let me choose to look like a survivor
deepfried replied to DavidisLaughing's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
True, but you would have to remove the washing ability otherwise it wouldn't be trusted. And it would have to be something less lame and immersion breaking than a scarf, perhaps just bloody clothes, though that has been suggested before. I agree we need a way for survivors to establish some sort of reliable voluntary trust. I suggested in another thread that survivors could salute each other to establish "friendship", then if one killed the other they would be punished with a massive humanity drop. Simple to implement and it should be somewhat effective. -
Yep those are the obvious, but are there others? if there are we shouldn't just be handing that info out. worse still would be a player location heat map, as that would just be sniper 101.

Lock all server times (to deal with day/night issues)

Because lets face it, most people playing DayZ are not roleplaying either bandits or survivors... they're just playing sandbox deathmatch.

pointless as no one would trust it. For a trust system to work it needs to be infallible, or near enough, so that, you know, people can trust in it. -
Increase Range of Direct Communication
deepfried replied to [ltac] imperator's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
yeah there needs to be different channels for yelling/speaking/whispering with different pick up ranges. Perhaps 50m/15m/5m or somthing like that. Trouble is at the moment using the voip Direct communication is basically shouting your conversation to anyone near... which is suicide if you're in a large town as bandits will just ambush you. -
Yeah i'm seeing a lot of wire, even out in the countryside, I think the spawn rate is either too high or it has too many uses. Hopefully it will be tweaked.

Less weapon spawn + no starter weapon = GG
deepfried replied to herd's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
There no weapons at the barn. Checked different barn like 5 times. Before you had like 2 weapons WITH ammo in barns. Strange, I'm finding lots of weapons in barns, usually at least 1 gun, and in one crazy barn I found about 6 primary guns! -
best way to manage your backpack is when you are accessing a loot pile. Just double clikc on the bag when you are and you will see the slots in the bag, you can the select "close bag" to get back to your main inventory. *be warned, moving stuff between backpack and inventory can result in items being deleted if there is not enough room*

@ Beginners..no gun start is not impossible
deepfried replied to Hetstaine's topic in New Player Discussion
Look, a gun isn't even a key survival item. Food and drink are the essentials, along with equipment like matches/hatchet/knife/compass etc. The way I play I can easily go a few hours into the game without firing a shot whether I have a gun or not. Firing a gun in a zombie apocalypse where zombies are attracted to noise is not a smart survival choice, it should be saved for emergency self defence, or occasionally a tactical zed takedown to get at loot. -
yeah I know, I was creating suggestion threads about this when it was still just pending notes. However I do think that radios are on the horizon, a few hints have been dropped and I think some people have reported finding radios in game (not functional).

No starter weapon removes survival instinct, and respect for zeds
deepfried replied to breetai3's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
But why bother when your chances are reduced? Why should I bother running inland for 15 minutes with nothing when i will respawn again on the coast if I die? Much easier to act like "the roadrunner" as someone else said' date=' and finding what you need in the spawn areas. I'm the Dad of a 7 year old. It's all about conservation of play time for me because I don't get enough of it. =) [/quote'] Chances of what are reduced? finding gear? maybe. Surviving? definitely not. Are you playing this survival game to survive or to run and gun with the bandits in Cherno? Your choice I guess but just letting you know thats not the only way. -

OK so the way I see it the biggest barrier to spontaneous coop between survivors is bandits playing wolf in sheep's clothing, or in other words pretending to be friendly then shooting you in the back at an opportune moment. We need a way to enable a certain amount of trust between survivors whilst at the same time not preventing bandits from doing anything. Here is my suggestion: You are a survivor, you meet another survivor/bandit who appears to be friendly but you're not sure you can trust them... so you both get close and salute each other. The mutual salute will mark (invisibly) you both as friendly to each other, now if one of you shoots the other they will get a massive humanity loss, much more than an ordinary murder. This enables people to optionally "befriend" each other and have a disincentive to backstab. Of course that wont necessarily stop a bandit from backstabbing "friends" but they wont be able to do it more than once without the heartbeat mechanic marking them as a bandit (with very low humanity).

why do people have difficulties starting w/o weapons
deepfried replied to Tikka (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
You can call BS all you like but its true, OK i got lucky. I spawned just south of the factory and immediately went to the petrol station about 30 yards away... there was a dead survivor with a makarov and 5 clips. (not to mention a bunch of other stuff like wire and a toolbox). Then I headed toward the factory, keeping to the east side, there is a trio of farm buildings there, a large shed (got a double-barrelled) then a long cowshed and the barn. I went from the shed to the barn and the barn was STUFFED with guns. -

Welp, I just died, so I thought I'd time how long it took me to find a gun: 25 seconds inside 6 minutes I had found 7 guns. Gun spawn rate is insanely high, In one barn I found an enfield, 2 double barrel shotguns, 2 crossbows, and a winchester... Edit: No, wait, just explored the bottom of the barn... make that 3 double barrel shotguns.
