    Military Treasure

Would be a cool idea, though this kind of thing is very probably 5-7 months away from being implemented.

    Stomach update?

So I saw that in the most recent patch (the one that added shotguns) that stomach balancing happened. Does anyone know exactly what was changed? was it the maximum energy level being raised/lowered, the max water level? just curious if anyone knows details.

    DayZ Gameplay and other Suggestions

Eh, after the last patch, I think weapons (guns) are fine in scarcity, its the ammp that isn't. Currently Cmads and STANAGs are everywhere where M4s spawn, which not only makes sense, but is completely fine. The issue is just that the mags are always full when they spawn, ALWAYS. which means that a player who server hops can have more ammo than he will ever likely use after looting about 10-15 military type buildings. The mags should rarely have ammo and players should more readily have to rely on bullets being found in other areas either nearby or in cardboard ammo boxes everywhere. (On a random note, unless you need them immediately or need the more efficient use of inventory, I recommend keeping bullets in the box they come in rather than loose. Solo players need not worry about this, but even a ruined box of ammo yields pristine rounds. It just protects that ammo in case you die so that your buddy can still recover them.)

Gas Canister and portable gas lamp

Currently the gas lamp functions as follows (At least last I checked and I don't believe a patch has fixed it since.) 1. If turned on while on the ground, it will light up and light the area around it, so long as it is still in its native server (the server in which it spawned). If however, the server has reset or you switch servers, the lamp will still light up, though the area around it will not. 2. Though it can be carried in hand, it is not necessary nor recommended. It will light up and the glow will follow your movement so long as it is in your inventory and turned on with a gas canister attached, NOTE: The gas canister is necessary ONLY if you intend to carry it around, the lamp will work just fine even without one so long as it is on the ground, same for the portable stove. 3. While on, the lamp will blind the player after staring at it in close proximity (such as when in hand) after just a few seconds. this occurs regardless of whether it is actually providing light due to a server change. This means after a server change, it becomes a bright white beacon that can be used to distract other players or draw attention to a specific area. 4. While it provides a great amount of light, it takes up two slots in your inventory and to some players, is just not worth it. There is currently another glitch in place that players who want less inventory taken up but still want a light source, might find useful. Currently the Flashlight can be rather useful more than a player might initially think. If turned on then dropped, the flashlight will drop at the player's feet and shine a beam of light 90 degrees to the right of whichever direction the player is facing. This much seems obvious. Currently however, the beam of light will not disappear once the flashlight is picked up and even turned off in the player's inventory. Since light passes through walls, a player can effectively light up a building by placing it outside enough to have the rooms inside lit up. I don't currently know what effect dying wiith it turned on has nor do I know if the light persists if the lamp was ruined on that dead player, though a ruined one cannot be turned on.
  5. This will happen til next patch, I don't know the exact details to describe it as I lnow almost nothing of what it takes to host a server for this game but basically there is an issue with the server hosters and the multiple hives. The empty world should have nothing to do with it, I lose characters without experienceing it, though I do know what you refer to. Essentially only one hive that i'm aware of is functioning properly and the rest may or may not save your character.

What was your most annoying death by another player

I have another story, this one not so much annoying as simply interesting. So there were four of us, Me and my buddy Canine had been playing DayZ for days now and had our full kit going, M4s and .45s as well as all the supplies we needed. Our other two friends had just bought the game and were learning the basics, one of which took a good 5 minutes to figure out how to drink a soda. Anyways, there we were, Me, Canine, Joe, and Reality, next to the lighthouse on the southeastern corner of the map... Deciding to head to what had to be the safest airfield (before the eastern shore spawn changes) we decide to head up north to scavenge the coastal towns til we hit the lumber mill, then to cut across a mountain to Krasnostav and the airfield. We move along, checking houses and collecting some basic provisions for our newbies, doing our own thing until we heard a scream from up the street. There, we saw Joe, lying prone at the base of a ladder. He had fallen and broke his legs. We gather our group and decide what to do next. After a minute, its decided that I will escort our fallen comrade to a nearby shed where I can protect him while Reality and Canine go off in search of a stick to splint our buddy, Reality sticking to the nearby area since I would be more readily available to aid him from zombies given his ungeared state while Canine headed into the mill to check there. Since we don't all have mics for the PC, we were using xbox 360 party chat and therefore could communicate anywhere at any time. After a good five minutes of making sure Joe was fed and taken care of, I began to get a bit ansy since I wasn't directly aiding in finding him a splint, but before I could decide what I should do, our buddy Canine reports that he was shot, sniped out while trying to grab a quick soda from his pack. It took only a moment to know what I had to do. I set down my pack and handed my sidearm to Joe, "Canine is down," I said to him, "Here, take my pack, it has plenty of food and drink, as well as basic medical gear and other things you might find useful. And take this," I say as I hand him the trusty .45 with my two spare mags, the gun that saved my life on four previous encounters. I check my STANAG and load some spare rounds into the backup clip then move to the door," I might not come back, so you shoot anything that comes through that door you hear me? Don't let anyone in until Reality has the splint." Then I take a deep breath and set off to the mill. I make sure to be careful, as there were still zombies between me and the building Canine believes he was shot from. moving quickly and quietly, I approach a stone wall that leads all the way to the target building, and from where I was, I could see a guy on the second story balcony. Only his head and the barrel of his M4 were visible, but I had my shooter. I slowly approached the building, hugging the wall as to not be in direct line of sight to the gunman on the roof. About 20 feet from the door I pause, my brow beginning to sweat, my heart racing, I could hear voices. There were three of them as far as I could tell. I was heavily outnumbered, but I also had the element of suprise especially considering how close I knew I was. I debated my next move, knowing that if I got closer my footsteps would give me away for sure, but before I had another thought, a guy came out the front door, crouchwalking his way to a nearby tree. He made it half way. I no longer held the element of suprise, but having used only four rounds I was far from having to reload and one M4 weilding bandit now lie dead in front of me. Only seconds pass before I see the owner of the second voice I heard behind a tree only feet from my previous victim, but he has nothing but his jeans and a plain white shirt. Regardless, he seemed like he was heading for his buddy's M4 and that was not going to happen. I fire a three round burst, then another, but he ducks behind the tree. I move in and get a solid shot and hold the trigger. "THIS IS FOR CANINE YOU BASTARDS!!" I yell through direct chat, as I pour bullets towards the guy, but before I see him drop I realize that half the rounds I heard being fired, weren't mine. Before the guy drops, my vision fades black and I am dead. After respawning, I realize I'm only a few minute's walk from the scene so I decide to investigate. Upon arriving I see two bodies. The bandit I killed had half his gear strewn about him, as well as my body. Most of it ruined, it was obvious the guy who shot me had tried to salvage what he could from the mess. I was disappointed that two of our group had died while they lost only one, but then I realized something. The guy I was shooting as I died had no gear, so why was there so much on the ground? No weapons had been taken either. Something didn't add up. I checked the front door of the building and there he was, blood spewing from his gut, dead. He hadn't made it after all, my shots caused him to bleed out before he could bandage up. I had evened the score between our groups. So I gather what supplies I could as Canine arrives at the scene to do the same, but this time he had found a stick. We head back to the shed to find Joe still there and get him on his feet again. It felt like victory seeing him on his feet again. With Reality nowhere to be found (he has a tendancy to get lost) we make off for the airfield where Joe manages to not only collect tons of gear, but goes on to survive for more than 20 hours of gameplay later, not a bad run for his first life in DayZ, and an interesting story to tell of his buddy, giving his life to avenge another.

What was your most annoying death by another player

I had a similar encounter, Though mine was simply me desyncing while in the building next to the air tower NE airfield, in the cell right when you walk in. Having said desync, I logged out since I couldn't even open the door to get out. I server hop a few times, trying to get one I had a better connection to and just got unucky. I spawn in the third server and (without getting stuck at the please wait screen) die the second my character had to be visible. The guy must've seen me materialize from thin air. I was only mad because all I was doing was trying to find a server I could connect to. (The desync I tend to get seems to be related to the server host)
  8. Just keep in mind, what color is in the first place. Color is the reflection of the light not absorbed by an object, therefore with little to no light such as that in DayZ, there is no light in which to be reflected showing the color of an object. I'll let people research their own details on the matter, but I'm just saying that the lack of color isn't just expected, its right on the money and nothing should be done to adjust it. Yes, it would make for an interesting/beautiful landscape at night, but showing off graphics capabilities is for other games.

Latest Patch Caused Major Desync For Me. You?

I feel that it may be possibly caused by the various server changes done, that in a short while there will be more patches to assist lower performance machines. As an alpha, the game isn't and can't be expected to be playable at all times. Be ready to lose playability while the devs do their thing and check back regularly to see if there is an improvement. Post system specs to help get an idea of your machine's capabilities and as many specific issues as you can with as much detail as you can. Doing this will give the devs and others much more info to use and might possibly lead to a fix for your very problem. Remember, that playing in early alpha stage isn't so much about giving you something to play as it is assisting with the development. Stating what is wrong isn't finding a solution, but giving as much info as possible just might be. If you aren't part of the solution, you are part of the problem.
  10. I salute you good sir, this was a much needed insight to the new intricacies of DayZ SA. My only fear now is how much more complicated this game has yet to become, but with someone such as yourself heading the medical research department of DayZ SA, I feel those of us who take the time to admire your hard work and efforts will have the best chances of survival in the harsh world of gun toting, gas mask wearing, jerks who... die with a backpack full of food. To many victories!
  11. Yes This all affects the accuracy of the weapon itself, but what else can affect accuracy of a shot? The ability of the person shooting to keep the weapon steady. A bipod can help with keeping the barrel steady just as well as resting it on something. Anything that can help lower the recoil would help accuracy on follow-up shots, which is what the compensator is intended to do. If you are going to tear into something and criticise the hell out of it, at least think it through thouroughly...
  12. anyplace that spawns weapon attachment loot can spawn a long range scope. Loot is categorized in only a few categories and those are applied to loot spawns. The likelyhood of that item spawning may be different in civilian places vs military places, but itcan still spawn there. My first long range was found in that civilian house with all the shelves in the back room. They can be found there, but its much MUCH more likely to have the more common loot. Need a better idea of loot spawns? check out the DayZ map by searching 'DayZ standalone map" it has spawn locations for everything, everywhere.

    Recognizing Friendlys

Its very simple, Dress the same. Stick together. Don't let someone go anywhere without the others knowing where you went. Play tactically. Don't rush into a town immediately, set up someone to act as a scout/recon. He alerts the group to unidentified players. You just have to play more carefully/smarter if you don't want to have an 'accident'. Theres a reason there are no HuD elements on screen.

    MUST HAVE map idea/s

Rocket has plans for making underground areas, not sure how it is gonna work, but I've read rumors of it. the old chopper crashes that randomize on the map and maybe some other things like em will also be likely way later to keep things interesting.

    Refillable bottles

They just need to fix the purification tablets. Right now, it doesn't matter how many are left, you use the whole amount on one bottle

Broken legs -> Friends Help (carry hurt persons)

Find a wooden stick, combine with rags, it makes a splint to fix the broken leg without morphine. It doesn't fix the pain, but a regular painkiller regiment will solve that. I do feel they should add the Arma II drag/carry for wounded people., even dead bodies. After shooting someone in the open, it would be safer to drag the body into bushes or something to loot it.

    Silenced Weapon

If you land a headshot with any melee weapon it will knock the player unconscious meaning you can just beat them something merciless until they die. A fireaxe to the head does the instant kill. Given the engine this game runs on, I don't see any type of instakill assassination like you seem to want. The silencer for the M4? Yeah it works just fine. You may not think it does, but have you ever heard a real silencer get fired? How about without the proper ammo? A silencer doesn't just magically make a weapon quiet. There will be added silencers for other weapons later on, the soonest of which will be the .45. There will probably be an addition of subsonic ammo to compensate at a later date. If you have played the Arma games, even the DayZ mod, you needed an SD STANAG for the silenced M4. Regular STANAG didn't work in them. The current 5.56 ammo isn't made for the silencer therefore it doesn't work. As you probably get reminded of very often, this is an alpha and that doesn't mean that bugs are the only thing to keep in mind. There are plenty of things that haven't been added, including things that apply to items already in game. Such as cooking with the cookpot or stoves.

    Night Time is Unplayable

you people need to stop whining about night. Theres nothing wrong with it. It makes a completely different playstyle necessary during nighttime. I mean, have any of you ever tried to see at night when theres no moon/overcast, AND you were at least an hour's drive from the nearest rest stop in the middle of a desert? Dozens of miles from anywhere you'd even see a street light? If you can't say you've been in those or similar conditions, you have no idea what night really looks like and have no place to say if the game has it realistic or not. The only thing they should do is make the few street lights in game provide more light. The light can't even reach the ground half the time.
  19. Munchermanjz

    Gas Lamp Question?

yeah, gas lamps tend to last only when you first find them, once the server resets or you switch servers, it "works" but provides no light. You still lose your night vision making everything dark when you look at it though. a great thing when you use it to lure fools to their deaths at night. though just dropping a flashlight while its on then picking it up works too, the beam of light doesn't disappear.
  20. Munchermanjz

    Alcohol tincture bug?

painkillers do work, but they work more realistically than just pop one and no more pain, you have to use a few over a long period of time. Or just log out and back in... that currently works too.

    Feedback for Experimental Patch

This is why I hate people... people hate other people all the time just for fun... I hate people who hate other people... if you have nothing to contribute then go swallow everything you find under your sink...

    Mosin

Killing on sight mainly happens because it is too easy to get the best gear too quickly, and the best way to get a mosin? Kill a player with one, you'll get ammo and other stuff most of the time by doing it this way.
  23. Munchermanjz

    Mosin is single load now

Its a bug, glitches happen, this is an alpha, things will be balanced better later blah blah... stop whining. The game has plenty of realism, but again... as an alpha... Much of the things that will refine this will be added later... This bohemiaisbroken guy is just an idiot looking for yucks out of people and/or just an idiot who doesn't know what an alpha is, just like half the people who buy this game and come to the forums 20 minutes later and complain that it has bugs... 99% of the world's population are idiots who couldn't survive in a real apocalyptic world anyways simply because the knowledge to do so is basically lost to the world now that technology reigns supreme. I will accept criticism to my point here only from people who have actually been in a situation where no modern technology was around to help. Just play the game as it is and enjoy the fact that the game exists in the first place, or do as most new spawns do and go jump off the nearest tall building, eat everything you find under your bathroom sink, I don't care, just go release your rage somewhere else... I'm just so sick and tired of all the whiners...
  24. Very simple, you adjust gamma brightness? You're just ruining the fun of night time. Just turn off shadows and clouds, Night is easily playable then. The game shoots for realism and has it. Don't like it? Play on day servers. Night should NOT be adjusted to make it easier to see, it is fine as it is.
  25. Believe it or not, its much better to play at night. Zombies have terrible sightlines to the point that they will often lose track of you if you are only 30m away with nothing between you. It makes it easier to move around with the cover of darkness too, the only thing it hinders is navigation simply because you can't see landmarks. Plus as of right now there is a bug that if you drop a flashlight that is turned on, then pick it up and turn it off in inventory, the beam will stay as if the light was still on the ground. Great way to set up ambushes by just baiting players to investigate the light inside a building and shoot them when they go to open the doors. On another note though, if you are stuck playing at night, regardless of what you want the visual quality to be, I recommend turning off shadows and clouds. This makes it so that night isn't nearly as dark so long as the moon is out (which is common) and makes the server much more playable. It may affect your personal preference to have shadows during the day, but even if you have a PC that can handle em, it will still help it use less and run cooler. Either way, doing this should help your nighttime antics a hell of a lot.
