Minimum Viable Gear - All you need in as few slots as possible

Stone(4), axe(0-melee), matches(1), 2x6 bandage stacks (2), canteen/bottle(2), 40 SKS ammo (2), compass(1), SKS(0-weapon), knife/machete(2/3). 14/15 Slots - a bit over half a taloon. Of course I have like 45 slots full, but it's not needed. -
With all these I still get just 25 fps in Cherno...

How do you carry one 'holstered'/'bagged'? As melee or you can only carry it in hand?

Yea'. Shot a guy in the chest, he runs off around the corner and by the time I run to him he's on the floor unconscious and I can easily finish him off. Awesome gun.

I survived like 45 hours on both modes. 0.46 wiped my hardcore char and on regular I couldn't give a fuck anymore and I wanted some quick action. Embarked on a one way trip to Berezino on full pop. Had more fun with some friends in 30 minutes than I had since February when I made these characters. GG for your squadmate though. I killed 3/5 of my friends once too because they told me it's them only after it was over... -
That's at 1280x800. At 1080 it's the same thing.

On a similar build I get 20-30 in cities and 40-60 in forests. All on low/disabled, high textures.

Ever since the last patch, maybe even before (didn't have a chance to test), I can't hear my friends over VOIP or see their "/" chat. They can see what I write, though. I tried reinstalling the whole game, didn't help. Any solution?

I don't, I'm just pointing out it doesn't make server hopping useless because you don't know when an item was looted enough to stop spawning so you still hop and hope it's still there. -

How will you play, Hardcore or Standard

I play both and see no difference. I played more on hardcore lately though, so I have this habbit of playing 1pp even on regular sometimes. -
I just reinstalled DayZ to try and fix some issue. It asked me to specify the destination. I left the default steam location, but you can choose where it goes. Regarding the performance, I think it will do well, despite being Alpha.

SSD is also SATA so yea'. You mean HDD. Just have both DayZ and Windows on SSD. You don't need whole steam on the SSD, although it doesn't take much space.
