    loot distribution improved in .52?

Too much food, imo, but in terms of distribution (and I only play hardcore/persistence) I've not come across the "loot dumps" that were common before.

Have good graphics card.. not getting good fps

The problem is the CPU, as most have said, but don't think this is your fault for the choice of chip, it's the fault of the DayZ engine. The setup you have will happily run many AAA titles on fairly high settings because they are optimised games which properly support multi-core processing. From experience DayZ doesn't. Obviously the game is still in development, and it's come on leaps and bounds, and also I think you can get it running with the kit you have (although it won't be pretty and it won't be in a particularly high res), the way to look at it is that the game only sees your chip as a single core 2.8Gz, which if that actually was the case it would be like running a modern game on something of an equivalent to a medium power Pentium 4 - or in other words 10 years out of date equipment. Don't be disheartened though, you are by no means in the minority. I have an 8 Core 8320 which is overclocked to 4.2 and DayZ still struggles along and while utterly infuriating considering how much of the processing power the game is ignoring, I know that sooner or later optimisations will be put into place that will allow it to take advantage of them.

Is Steam Not Working For You?

UK here, working fine. Been playing the game most of the night (it's ~9pm local) and I'm able to close and restart the Steam app and view content on it.

    Becoming waterproof?

Has anyone lost their backpack in the water yet? I did it the other day when I had a Taloon on. It was damaged but not badly. I had a sawn off shotgun inside it along with some tins of food and a machete. I swam across to an island to see if there was any loot. On my way back as I got out the water I went to my inventory to find my backpack gone. I swam back and there it was on the sea floor (not deep) so I grabbed it and put it back on. Next thing I notice the shotgun had fallen out. I spent about 5 minutes replacing the content in the backpack as it kept falling out.
  5. I can see the headlines now... PEOPLE IN HOARDING STUFF SHOCKER! This was always going to happen, and to an extent already happens. You either have no vehicles at all or accept that people will hoard them, there is no in between.
  6. More a question rather than a bug report, both of these things are pretty major within the game so I feel if it's a bug I won't be the only person to suffer it. 1) Gutting animals; both a stag and a cow and both shot with different weapons. Using the machete (which was damaged, not ruined) I can get the action from the menu, and it displayed the animation. Once finished nothing happens. From the action menu I have the options to "view contents","hide body" and "cancel current". I can cancel then repeat the action but it does the same. I've tried going away from the corpse and approaching it again from a different angle but the same happens once more. I even waited long enough after performing the skinning (but getting no stakes/guts) that the corpse disappeared. 2) I was sitting in front of a fire that had 2 logs in it. It had been burning for some time. Suddenly the fire disappears. Not just the logs and the fire going out, but just disappears completely, no fireplace left. I am guessing this is probably down to a problem with the server, but just wondering if anyone else has suffered these issues.
  7. I am thinking that as the gutting seems to be a bit hit and miss it's probably just a connectivity issue. See for the fire, had it been burning for a while? Mine had been (it had 2 logs in it) and I went off to get something and returned. I am thinking this might actually be a bug where instead of the logs disappearing because they had burnt out, but instead it removes the whole fireplace - just a guess, of course.

    SOS NWAF

 Aye, good luck with that! Seriously though, just being low on health is no reason for anyone to die. I've seen me survive almost 3 hours (in real time) of attacks and starvation on a populated server and still turn it around. It's only when you are up against it do you find out how good you can be at the game. Beans to S&P as RRF are a good bunch and will help you.
  9. Of course the title is not mutually exclusive, it may be both, but for the last week or so I haven't found a single fishing hook when before I was literally tripping over them. Now, before someone suggests that they are just difficult to see and I am probably just missing them, I have no problem in seeing them if they are there, they just don't seem to be and I've been checking all the usual places they spawn. I'm currently playing the Stable branch.
  10. Yeah, it wasn't that I didn't know where to find them, it was that for some hours playing there were none where they normally spawn. As I say, found some now, albeit in the same sort of places I was looking before.
  11. Just to confirm, this happened to me just minutes before I posted the thread. The gutting issue seems to be a server connection issue as I was able to skin a pig after 3 failed attempts. It seems that if you keep on trying you have a chance of it working.
  12. So, new character with the new update. What is the first thing I find? Yup, you guessed it - a fishing hook. Followed by another...
  13. For me, rope has always seemed a bit of an odd choice although I understand the initial thinking. In terms of realism rope has no elasticity so would make for a very poor fishing line or bow string, so using gut string would be the ideal replacement for that. What should rope be used for? Well traps, when implemented, would be the obvious choice, as are shelters and other crafted structures. In terms of content in game I'd like the ability to roll up clothing and use a rope to tie it allowing you to carry them outside of your main inventory.
  14. Yeah, well that was the reason for the thread. Previously I could fill my inventory with them, for the last couple of days nothing, and I am a traveller so ended up searching a fair bit of the map. Maybe the new update will be a little more lucky for me.

    Most versatile weapon combination?

I appreciate the link although it's not so much a lack of knowledge in how to use the bow, but more I don't have much experience using it as an offensive weapon against players - I'm just not a KoS type of player. Interestingly though, he states that using [R] undraws the bow, however this doesn't work for me.

    Todays maintanence

I know people will ignore this, but I would let the servers calm down a little before playing this. Every server is struggling, duping and huge delays in interacting with loot (and commands ignored) seem the norm. Not complaining, just warning. Oh, and CTD is in full force.

    Character loss after every server

Ha! I just thought it was a character wipe so I've been on several servers both have given me a fresh character. Meh, I'm happy enough rebuilding the character. All the KoS server hopping kiddies will be in tears though.. :D

    Most versatile weapon combination?

Stalking mostly. I'm still unsure exactly how well the b+a will work as a PvP weapon. As I don't have a fall back weapon, I feel if I fire and it's a failure then I'm in the shit. I'll keep on practising on the zombies for now.

    Most versatile weapon combination?

Bow + Arrow Axe :D Hardcore, FTW!
  20. There is definitely a level of "sods law" in loot scavenging. The minute you need something, it's nowhere to be found, yet when you don't...
  21. I have tons of rope and have two (10x) piles of burlap sack strips in the vain hope that I might manage to find some netting - so so unlikely, but fishing hooks I just can't find any anywhere and I really have searched what seems like 1/4 of the map. I've been a SA player from it's release so it's not like I don't know the loot locations or what they look like. Still if others are finding them (Stable/1PP) then I'm sure it must just be my luck.

    A New Breed of People

I've spent almost 2 weeks not entering a town. I've watched them from a distance but all my food and water has come from the rural resources. The problem I find is more one of shelter, without being able to craft one out of wood and leaves you are really at the mercy of the elements.

    How the North has Changed

I believe they also shit in the woods.

DayZ Supporter Edition as a gift?

You can get the Supporter Edition from the Bohemia website, but for the price and considering Steam sales, I would wonder if it wouldn't just be cheaper to buy them separately. I also feel that Arma2/DayZ Mod are very much on the decline and I have to wonder whether it's really worth spending the time getting into it. That is from someone who spent 2 years playing the mod.

    How the North has Changed

I find the problem is not the towns, but the fact that they are poorly optimised so the frame rate drops quicker than the Rouble.
