  1. That seems extremely harsh. People shouldn't be punished for dying. I enjoyed it when the mod was completely lawless and dangerous and where lifespans were mere minutes. Having a high death spawn would be restrictive imo. That's in relation to Public, of course, Private should have the option to set it as high as they want, although unscrupulous private hive admins could use it to their advantage.
  2. In many ways I think that death should have no punishment. If you die then you should be able to respawn within seconds. I can deal with the 30 seconds, as I suppose that deters people from committing suicide purely because they dislike their spawn. It's the hoppers we should target. I know there was some chat about incremental timers for those who swap between servers repeatedly I am not sure if that is still in place. Ghosting is a similar problem, although clearly not the same. Should you stop people from returning to a server they have just left within a given period of time (say 5 minutes). If so, how do we get round the problem of people who are disconnected through no fault of their own, or for servers that are rebooted (crashed)?
  3. One thing about public servers is that I like the utilitarianism of them. They are there for all the people free to use. Having all servers as private, and generally that means whitelisting, reduces the uptake in the game. After all who wants to buy a game where you can only play it if a 3rd party lets you. With that in mind, I also like the idea of public servers being lawless places full of absolute basket cases comprising of both bambis and bandits where lifespans are measured in the minutes rather than the hours. Private hives would be what you'd move up to once you were sure you wanted to get a bit more serious.
  4. I think the problem with private hives (just now) is that there isn't anything to do in the game. Survival is easy, and there is no base building so private hives just now become a little too fluffy. When things ramp up then perhaps I'll shift over, although finding a decent uk 1pp persistent private hive might cut down the options somewhat. When push comes to shove I might need to start my own, but certainly not while the game is at the stage it is.
  5. Not really my game style. Not only did I enjoy just watching the line of players appear, loot, then disappear, if I was to start sniping I would naturally start to develop a manjina. Perhaps. It does restrict the number of servers you can play on though.

    FNX Tactical

IMO, anyone who wants to use the in game weapons in real life are a bit unhinged. Obviously those in the armed services have a certain excuse but for the average populace there simply isn't a need to own these things. But, hell, what do I know, I'm one of those pinko communist bed wetting lefty yoghurt knitters.. ;)

Weapon tier list. Best and worst?

As I say, there have been several threads that list this, just search and add to that rather than starting a new one. This is a fairly recent thread that covered pretty much what you have asked... http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/217294-most-versatile-weapon-combination/

Weapon tier list. Best and worst?

There have been several threads similar to this, do a quick search (They should have shown up when you put it your title for this thread before you submitted it). However in regard to your question it's too vague. Close range things like a shotgun and magnum are great, long range they are shite. Are you talking about toe to toe city combat in which case an AK is good or are you talking roaming the countryside where an SKS or a Mosin, depending on scope, would be better.

    DayZ 2.0 - The Sequel

Personally I am annoyed at your push towards a 2.0 when 1.0 is not even out of Alpha.
  10. What you wrote is "moon on a stick" stuff. Stuff that goes above and beyond what any game on any platform currently offers. We don't disagree on the fact that immersion needs to be subtle and intuitive, and some of that post is sensible, but having name tags hovering over a player is probably one of the most unrealistic things you could add. Extra customisation is a fair call, but group tagging? Just no. You want realism then claim that to look at your compass you have a keybind to an overlay, how is that more realistic or immersive than physically looking at a compass in your hand? You want graphic overlays for health status. How is that more immersive than physically using a thermometer? Some of your requests while claiming to wish for something more immersive seem to point to the opposite. I've already alluded to the fact that it's always going to be difficult to replicate virtual events into the real world, there is going to have to be give and take on that matter, but I am definitely in the camp that you should not be spoonfed all your information and that it takes experience to realise what is going on.
  11. If you are asking for the mod UI to return, and as you quoted that specific bit of my post, then I completely and utterly disagree.
  12. You want complete immersion OP? Remove 3PP and see how many people complain about it.

    DayZ 2.0 - The Sequel

Why are these things not possible in "v1"? After all the rendering engine will be overhauled which could open up the possibilities of what you suggest.
  14. This is the running before we can walk scenario here. The UI and the interaction with your character are still in very early stages of development. In the mod you had the ability to know how loud you were being and how visible you were, along with your characters health status. Clearly immersion, from my point of view, is not improved by having UI to define these things. Simply through logic should you be able to tell how noisy your actions are, or how visible you are. These still need to be worked out quite a bit as the sounds are one of the least developed aspects - or at least it would seem that way - and the zombies do seem to posses a stunning level of awareness of your presence some distance away. As for your health, it's clearly just placeholders that are in use just now. Ideally you would want your character to react differently depending on their physical wellbeing rather than having [hunger] tags in the inventory. Coughing or clearing your throat when thirsty, stomach rumbling when hungry, etc. Bleeding should be reflected by both the visual aspect as well an audible cue. The problem, of course, is that dividing line between the real world and the virtual one. How do you square the circle of having pain if you don't physically feel pain. A difficult one indeed, however I am certainly of the mindset that it should come from in game cues that are more subtle than a UI.

    spawning in houses

Waking up from a bed in one of the houses would be a good idea. I still like the idea of spawning on the beach with nothing as that suits the back story somewhat, but on the flip side I'm sure it's better for the game to have people spread all about the map rather than all just clumped on the coast.

    DayZ For Mac?

If there is a Mac version of DayZ will this coincide with a plethora of hipster clothes being added to the game?

    Bamboo!

First off I'll say why bamboo might have a problem being introduced - it's a bit cold. Other than that, and the temperature could be counteracted by being grown in a greenhouse (even though in game the green houses don't have glass!), they are the ultimate crafting material; weapons, armour, furniture, building and cooking (both equipment and fuel), to name just few. Bamboo grows quickly, is easily cultivated and can adapt to many soils. Nitrate fertilisers help it, and we already have those in the game, and the amount of rain in Chernarus is perfect for growing bamboo. I'm guessing it would be "fairly easy" to implement graphically too. So.. let's hear it for bamboo.

    DayZ fan film (live action)

Fan art is fine as it tends to be static images and the like. Film making is maybe a step further. While I appreciate what you have there is a genuine fan short, and my initial comment is more tongue in cheek, if you were the approached to do something a little longer or more expensive where do the rights to the DayZ world stop being public domain and owned by Bohemia. Of course, you could argue that Rocket/Bohemia weren't exactly being original by using zombies, but Chernarus and it's environment are distinct enough for them to claim you are infringing on their rights. After all it's a possibility to licence a film at a later date.

    Bamboo!

Just one of many things bamboo could be used for! We have the poison from the berries already. Not ideal is probably the best way to put it. As most servers seem to be set to Autumn and the ambient temps tend to be between 0 and 12 degrees C, the problem is the speed the bamboo grew at. In warmer climates it can be one of the fastest growing plants around. In the cold, much less so (as you'd expect). Bamboo will grow in somewhere like Spain, for example, but not in say Czech Republic and Chernarus seems to be on a latitude in the middle of those. And yes, a bamboo bow would be an ideal thing, depending on how fast it grew (and thus the length of the segments) it could even be a longbow, but in truth you want yew for that.

    Today's maintenance

I too hadn't seen many until very recently, when I spotted out of my eye a normal tent hidden behind some bushes. Went inside and found a few scraps amongst some loot that looked like it had already been raided. Rather smug with myself I set off West only to come across not one, but two military tents stuffed with some pretty useful kit. As it was I had a decent inventory setup so I only took what was necessary and actually swapped out some stuff of equivalent value. I did think about being a dick and taking the pump shotgun and several pistols (no clips) and dumping them outside but then I decided against it.

    Advanced Inventory System

You can put loot into the pockets of stuff then put it into your inventory, negating the actual space taken up but it does feel a little "hacky". There is a bug in which you can't add Gorka pants to your inventory when they are full but empty them out then add them, then add the items to the pants and it works. As I say I would much prefer the option to roll these things up. It's what I do when travelling. Extra boots too should be hangable from a backpack, same with things like the frying pan. In regard to the raincoat, I tend to wear a dark t-shirt unless it rains or is very cold, then I swap to the raincoat. All the running about heats you up too much. So to have a simple way to do that without affecting your actual inventory would be ideal.

    Bow crafting - natural resources

Spear using kindling and a crafted knife would be a decent idea. A trap using kindling, sharpened sticks and a spade to dig it would be good also (you could "herd" the animals towards it).

    Are PU scopes gone?

Drop any item that uses a PU. Go to the next town. Guaranteed you will find a scope, but of course you won't have anything to use it on (other than in your hands).

    Advanced Inventory System

Upgrades to the inventory system are definitely going to come, but it's a little down the list and the main reason for that is that the current system is surprisingly solid considering the game has been developing. I do agree with the rope being used to "roll up" certain elements so they don't take up slots in the inventory. I get a little annoyed at so much space being taken up by spare trousers and jackets when in reality you would simply roll them up and attach them to the top (or the outside) of your backpack.

    Bow crafting - natural resources

Some level of reaction from the animal when being hit by an arrow would be good, whether that is the arrow shown embedded or a red "splash" like a gun, as just now it's quite hard to tell when you've landed a hit. Especially if you are using the bow from a decent distance.
