Cowboy hats - an invitation to shoot on sight?

Which was sort of the point I was making. Of the people that have been shooting at me, the vast majority have been wearing cowboy hats. That's made me nervous as it's clear those wearing them are more likely to try and kill me than not. I don't KoS as a rule, in fact I'd rather observe and avoid, after all you never know what the outcome will be and even at the most basic level it's a waste of ammo if that person isn't troubling you.

    Another ladder hate post

Interaction with ladders will be improved somewhere down the line, however I've never died from using a ladder, ever. Not in the mod, not in the SA. Either I am very lucky or I'm just careful. If I can manage to avoid death then I don't see why others can't.

Cowboy hats - an invitation to shoot on sight?

I think you'll find it not just socially acceptable, but also very stylish. :D On a serious note, have you read anything about Sapeurs btw? A very interesting subculture and made all the more mental considering the level of deprivation and poverty these people live amongst.

Cowboy hats - an invitation to shoot on sight?

If we are going African subcultures, I see your Botswana metal and raise you the Congolese sapeur: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Skomorokh/Sapeurs Edit: You will note that not only do these men rock a style completely at odds to their surroundings, but there is not a cowboy hat to be seen.. ;)

    Small protector case

Are barns back on your list as they are loot-tastic now, after months of being empty teases. The house with the light blue trim windows, but not the log cabin style abutment are food palaces now. As for the OP and the protector cases, I've only ever found them on the bodies of corpses (corpses wearing cowboy hats, of course.. ;))

    Dynamic first person?

Do I need to add in a caveat to point out my comments are on a "as and when" basis? Surely I don't... do I?

    Dynamic first person?

I've been saying for ages that more immersion is needed for hardcore servers. Helmets and masks should reduce visibility when worn. With helmets the range of movement should also be reduced. Sunglasses should be effective for sun glare, but on the flip side would need to be removed at dusk/night time and perhaps when over cast. Rain should effect bike helmets and sunglasses causing raindrops to form, and in the case of bike helmets the possibility they would steam up.

Cowboy hats - an invitation to shoot on sight?

Hardly, if you can rock that look then you do it. It's a hard gig to pull off though, and as I say if you can manage it I know where you can drink for free.

Cowboy hats - an invitation to shoot on sight?

I know quite a few Berlin "specialist" clubs that you would get free entry at the door and quite a few drinks bought for you should you turn up dressed like that.. ;)

Cowboy hats - an invitation to shoot on sight?

Well to be a pedant "personal statistics" do prove something, they prove that more people with cowboy hats have been taking pot shots at me. However they are subjective rather than objective, hence (as I say) the thread.

Cowboy hats - an invitation to shoot on sight?

I don't wear cammo as such, I do tend to wear clothes than blend in though. Hunter backpack, yes, orange Mountain backpack no. Green helmet, yes, bright blue safety helmet, no. Is there a cammo cowboy hat? I've seen one in real life, but not in game. Oooh, bingo, that is generally a good rule of thumb, although that said I see less and less clown masks.

Cowboy hats - an invitation to shoot on sight?

I'm not judging anyone, other than having dreadful fashion sense of course.. ;) I've lived and travelled all over the EU, I wouldn't say I have a "corner". Yet this is the thing, since they have been introduced it's currently running at maybe an 80% chance of CH wearers shooting on sight. I'm not judging, I'm going on personal statistics. It seems an awfully high ratio, so hence the thread.

Cowboy hats - an invitation to shoot on sight?

Right, well for a start I'm not surprised the English lads are wearing cowboy hats. That's to be expected from the English.. ;) As for being hunted down, I wouldn't say that, more that I have encountered more trigger happy cowboy hat wearers. Personally I am a helmet guy, not for any reason of fashion but purely from a defence point of view. I got into a firefight with a guy wearing a cowboy had up in NWAF and we both landed a similar number of shots. Me? I was unconscious for maybe 30 seconds, him (or her? who am I to judge) was out for the count despite both having M4's and presumably both aiming head shots. No, it's really not. Ever. Trust me on that. The only people who wear them are rather confused Germans.

Is there an invisible hack out?

"60% of the time, it works every time." This is the reply I tend to give when any player on any game is adamant that somehow it's hacks that have befallen them or their crew. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing you or your clan's ability, deepfry, but if I was a betting man, I would be placing money on it not being a hack and the guy just outplayed you. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but that's my opinion.

    Dayz "ladders"

My proposal wasn't a proposal though, I wasn't countering yours by suggesting something different. I was merely stating that in game and in terms of having differing levels of characters; whether that is skill or score based, I am not opposed to a skill tree but I am opposed to a generic score based on the metric you see beneficial to how you play the game. Let's just put this in perspective to the way I play the game. I spend very little time in cities, and tend to do so when I need supplies. Does that mean I should have a lower "score"? I also think you misjudge the value that those who would KoS would care about some arbitrary metric. I'm not knocking you for suggesting it, no harm in doing so, although perhaps in the Suggestions section as it might not have bombed so badly there. Edit: I also think that the idea that you are less likely to "mouth off" when captured is a just not thought out. Not only does it make very little difference what you do when captured, most capturers have a pretty well defined end game to any hostage situation long before you are taken hostage, but the idea that you would have a score at risk may even increase hostage taking/killing. Personally when someone tells me they are going to take me hostage I either flight or fight, I certainly don't stand there and await my fate.

Look don't get all uppity because people don't agree with you. I understood your idea fine, I just think it's rubbish.

    Simple Incentive to Live

Not sure about anyone else, but having no loot respawn on the server is my primary reason not to get shot. In terms of length of life indicator, wasn't it mooted that beards be used as an indicator. Can't remember if this was bullshit or genuinely an idea put forward.

    Dayz "ladders"

Are we making this into Mario? Do we need to now spend enough time in Electro to "Level Up". This is meant to be a survival game. Just camping out in towns in order to gain points sounds a daft idea, imo. Now in terms of ladders, I am in no way against a skill tree of some form within the game, although I have yet to see a sensible implementation plan to make it work even if makes sense that nobody should be able to fly a helicopter of perform certain medical tasks from the first minute they join the game. In no way should a skill tree affect the ability to aim a weapon though a la CoD.

Personality Poll (Try to be Honest)

I feel you may be missing an option in all the answers given. "Keep an eye on them to see if they act suspiciously." There is no way I am going to just turn my back and ignore them, but in the same way I've got no desire to interact with them either on a friendly or aggressive manner.
  20. rickyriot

A console version would kill this game tbh..

Do you remember MoH:AA and how great was that? Then the first couple of CoD games? Damn fine games, created by the same team responsible for MoH:AA. They were all designed for the PC, built on the PC by PC gamers. Further games however were not and the lack of realism, the dreadful hit boxing and utterly shameful aim assist are down to the game being switched to focus on consoles.

    Is a backpack a necessary?

I've seen the safety helmet, not sure what they are called in game, but they are the type of thing you would wear at a building site except they are all brightly coloured (blue, green, etc). I've always thought, "they must provide a lot of protection, after all that's what they are meant for", but with them being so brightly coloured it's just too much of a bullet magnet. I like the idea of the beret though, and would wear one, however it's incidental head damage from swiping zombies when close in combat I am worried about and instead tend to find a motorcycle or helicopter helmet.
  22. rickyriot

    Is a backpack a necessary?

My opinion? Sure you could survive without a backpack, but ultimately you are allowing vanity to affect your chances in game. Now that said, if I have a choice between a hunter backpack or a mountain one, I'll choose the hunter purely because it blends in better. This isn't about looking good but more blending into the terrain better. I do hope that somewhere down the line there will be the ability to use the spray cans on the backpacks as the orange mountain backpack is a serious camouflage killer.

How to REALLY solve 3pp issue

I wish people would stop calling it 3PP, the correct terminology is lamecore; lamecore and hardcore. People who play lamecore need to accept they are just not as good, either as people or as game players, as those who play hardcore. This comment will annoy people but it will only be lamecore players as that type of person will always react badly when they are correctly identified as being ethically and morally of lesser fortitude. It's also statistically true that those who play lamecore are more likely to cheat, teamkill and KoS.

    36.115442 - What what what...can we expect?

There is a chance that zombie respawning might make some form of appearance. To what level I'm not sure, but when the big "undead" bug that forced 34 live before it was meant to be, Rocket had said he was meant to be working on the zombie respawning rather than fixing that bug. Cooking might make an appearance too, we have stoves, gas, cooking pots, water and rice. The natural progression would be to combine them. This could then lead onto boiling water to purify it meaning pumps and pond could start being set to infected. Berries are now put into your inventory so it'll be interesting to see if they will be used in any other way (dyes perhaps?).
  25. I'll maybe be a little closer in, all depends on the terrain of course. I think with SA not quite as "serious" as the mod that people will just go rushing into towns without thinking.
