So you come onto a forum of Alpha players to say that you won't be playing the Alpha again? Isn't that like phoning up an ex girlfriend to tell them you won't sleep with them again?

Balota no longer spawns tac vests/certain gear?
rickyriot replied to exomonkeyman's topic in General Discussion
I never go to Balota now. Not that it was high on my list of places to visit in the mod but in the SA anyone with a decent scope has a direct line from the new tower blocks at Chapa, it's nothing but a duck shoot. -
Yup, I concur with the above. If you lose your gear, simply exit and go back to the previous server you were on. Gear re-enabled.

The big thing with berries is that they now go to your inventory, as previously you just automatically ate them. Not so good when they can be poisonous and you wouldn't know until you get the "i have a funny taste" message. I wonder if berries will lead to dyes. It's an idea that is within minecraft and I wouldn't be surprised to see it make it's way to DayZ.

New Update Rolling out on experimental 0.36.115535
rickyriot replied to Rancor's topic in General Discussion
Now, does that mean that it's localised too? We know the clouds go on an East/West trajectory (which seems odd as weather traditionally goes West/East due to the rotation of the Earth) however does the weather patterns also follow in the same direction? Can you have sunshine in Berezino and rain in Vybor only for the rain to clear and the sunshine to reach there later? -
I don't think jump is the right term, more like... "ooh, hello" They say you don't hear the one that kills you, so if you hear a shot that lands close to you then you know they are either a bad shot or some distance away, and whichever it is those two things are what will save your life. For example I was in the NWA the other day, finding nobody after spending 20 mins or so creeping about (I even recklessly crossed the airfield) I was getting a little full of myself near the buildings at the Southern corner only for a bullet to ricochet off the side of the building. There was a maximum of 180' that the shot could have come from and thinking of the route I took narrowed it down to about 90'. The sensible place was on the rise to the South in line with the airstrip. I start sprinting for the corner of the building that would, if my thinking was right, cut the angle off from the shooter. They were clearly not a good enough or patient enough shot to take me out however if I had got my calculations wrong I could be in big trouble and rather than reduce the angle I could have opened it up. Another shot hits the wall as I round the corner of the building. That was two, again the shooter is sloppy as it allowed me to know exactly where he was and it's where I thought, on the rise probably in some bushes. I can use this to my advantage and trace a line diagonally back using the house as the pivot point of a line between me and him. Luck is on my side as there are some bushes further along that line. I need to be quick, an inexperienced shooter will head straight for the building, so I run and make the tree line. Sure enough within a couple of seconds round the corner of the building the shooter comes - I'm guessing he thinks he shot me as he didn't see me running away, however it's now him that is in the line of fire and he is at a complete loss. The tables have turned. He looks around to see if I am lying prone at the corner of the building or inside the building (the only door is on the side we are on now. I show the level of patience he lacks and as he is looking away in a vain search for a body I deploy my bipod, take aim and down him from 20 meters. He is now dead and I am still alive. Why? Because I heard the gunshot. Oh, and he was sloppy and impatient, that helped.. ;) TL;DR? Bottom line, hearing the gunshot is probably the thing that will save your life.

Bit of a long post, but stick with it, I won't add a TL;DR as the poll question should cover that.... Ok, my premise is that NV/IR (night vision and heat source infra red) shouldn't be implemented into the game as they give those who have them too great an advantage over those who don't. As I mentioned in another thread these things are not like a new weapon, they are real game changers. I should point out that at a technical level I like them, they are neat, and I like the idea of managing them in terms of the battery and/or the condition they are in so there is no hate going on here, just a worry about gameplay balancing. Not that I am suggesting everyone should be forced to play a game where there are no advantages, not the case at all, after all we all choose different guns and setups based on our preferences; do you prefer a long range sniping weapon up on a hillside or perhaps roaming town with a much closer range SMG? Do you like the magnum with more kick or the FNX with more ammo in the clip? All these things add to the subtle balancing of the game. However compare that to playing on the night server with one person having NV and/or IR and the other person not. The difference there is not subtle, it's massive, with the advantage too greatly applied. At least, imo. Perhaps this doesn't apply to you as you will only play daytime servers, and that's fair enough, I'm not judging you for it, however for me night time adds a whole new dynamic to the game and I think it'll look absolutely lovely once flares are implemented. However implementation of NV/IR would certainly limit my game time to the daylight hours. It was a particular bug bear from playing the mod on certain servers when, at night, you'd join and there would be maybe 10 or 12 players. Of those 8 or so would be long term server regulars who had geared up and were carrying NV and would use them specifically to hunt those without them. I don't want to be restricted purely to daytime servers due to the odds being too heavily stacked against me, I love the idea of night time play as it's almost a new game in itself and adds a lot to the immersion. Anyway, I hope I have given a fair argument for not including these items. I appreciate that if we want the world to be realistic then in all fairness they should be included but in terms of balancing the game I think they would have too much of an impact.

When will people stop calling it 3PP and use it's proper term; lamecore. Lamecore and hardcore, those are the two ways to play this game.. :D On a more serious note.. ..anyone who has played the mod will know this only too well! Close up the grass might look like it has some sort of protection, from a distance it was just not rendered at all leaving you looking like you were just lying down on a green carpet.

Broke my legs, had an axe and forest around me... no sticks...
rickyriot replied to InvisiMan2013's topic in General Discussion
I think you are being overly harsh here, the lad did ask in the OP when this is likely to be added, and I don't think it's entirely unfair to ask if you are surrounded by wood why you can use that wood for a splint when the specialised splint loot item is just two bits of sticks. -

I've got to admit I am quite impressed by the fact you can stand under trees to avoid the rain, however this raises the question about it being more susceptible to lightning. I seem to remember some chat about someone being hit by lighting in the mod but I never saw it and thought it was all just a wind-up. -

No idea, as they were useless I've just ignored them in the past. Of course now I need one.... Edit: I believe the wood will be stackable as it shows a value of 5 next to my inventory entry. -
Right, well it seems that the moderators are lacking a sense of humour, so for those who read my comment about the size of the head and setting it in your options it linked to a rick-roll video. Sometimes laughter is the best medicine, but not on here it seems.. :(

Rocket did mention fires when tweeting about the weather effects, although you are right and they could be just testing the indicators just now. -

Are you the same with the clothes as I showed in the last pic? Some are wet (helmet, jacket) yet others are not (boots and combats). No idea, as I say I have matches and wood (I found the wood. not harvested) but no stones. I believe the stones are needed to make the fireplace, which you then apply the wood then you light with the matches. That's a guess btw, not sure. -

How long does anything take to dry off? I waited a little while in one building (less than real time 5 minutes) and it never seemed to change the state. -

Another 4Chan style reply.. > be spawn > run inland as everything is looted > reach a barn within 1/2 km > run up the stairs > fall off the stairs > break leg > no loot in barn > only option to crawl all the way back to coastline and beg for people to kill me > beg people to kill me > nobody will kill me, they just laugh and run away, even the fresh spawns > FML so, yeah, I think there should be a way to commit suicide in certain circumstances, maybe a timer in the same way the server hopping is done so it stops people repeatedly committing suicide to get a better spawn point. -

I have no idea when sickness comes in, or how long it takes to dry out. I tried to keep inside as much as I could but as I say the rain was almost continual with maybe 30 second of dry weather between the rain. I have matches and wood in my inventory but no stones and I believe that I need stones in order to make fire so I can't comment on that. In terms of lighting fires for anything other than warmth, you cannot put water, tinned food (both open or sealed) or rice into the cooking pot so I don't think you can use the cooking pot in conjunction with a fire. I presume that being the same as with the cooking stove. -

Just a few pics to demonstrate the weather and it seems the experimental servers have the rain turned on almost permanently forcing you to run from building to building... So far the three states of clothing I've experienced; damp, wet and soaked: Next up showing you that you can shelter under trees and under open sided buildings: Finally the state of my clothing while soaked. Note that while I had a helmet and a raincoat on, they were soaked, yet my boots and my cargo pants (and also the backpack, although not on this image) were all dry: Of the other things I've noticed, the zombies are much more aggressive (slightly) and your breathing sounds are way more noticeable. -
I was being facetious, maybe aim your question to the OP.. ;) My rule is if they are wearing a cowboy hat...

I would make all those who KoS read every thread written about ways to stop KoS. If that doesn't stop it, nothing will. ;)

Except if you had read Rocket's twitter he said he was meant to be working on zombie respawning when the big .34 undead bug shat all over everything. Not that I disagree, loot spanwing would be lovely, but like a bad blowjob I'm still not going to turn down zombie respawning if offered no matter whether it would be my first choice or not.. ;) -
Walking into a shed on a industrial site and it struck me how much I missed finding these buggers.

Seriously unlikely, imo. Zombie respawn though, that might be happening.
