I'm torn on this to be honest, as on one hand I think if you offer suicide you'll just have people killing themselves over and over in order to get a better spawn point. On the flip side, I have broken a leg early on in the game, miles away from any resources and on a server that had most of the zombies killed so no way of ending it. Mind you, in you think about it realistically if you were stuck in the same position IRL there is no easy way to kill yourself either.

Announcing the Dayz League of Baseball [DLB] !
rickyriot replied to knar33's topic in General Discussion
It's a minority sport, in the same way kabaddi is... ;) To be fair I saw the Feb devblog video and thought the baseball bat swing in relation to the new physics and thought that it looked pretty realistic. -
My mic broke and I just haven't been bothered to get a replacement yet, which means if I need to converse with people it's via the local chat which brings with it loads of problems. Essentially I can't chat and have my gun ready at the same time as the chat system "locks" you out of other movements. Because of this, I've basically just been ignoring people. I will say thanks to a couple of people I met on the experimental server the other day, I swapped food for bandages (for some reason my medikit had "disappeared" from my inventory), however it was only really possible because (1) they were friendly and (2) I was massively better armed than they were so the logic goes I could have killed them for their loot rather than just asking for it.

Announcing the Dayz League of Baseball [DLB] !

Why would anyone in an ex soviet republic play baseball? Football, yes, and there are even football fields already on the map. -
I could rewrite it in C, C++, C#, VB, Java, Javascript or even 8-bit non labelled 6502 assembler if that would help.. ;)

"I bought a Director's Cut of a porn film once, and guess what? He fixed the cable in the end." "I bought Anal housewives 4 the other day, imagine how disappointed to find out it was just women keeping their living rooms tidy." Aye-ah-thank-you... I'm here all week, remember to try the veal.

Some of that is indeed looking sweet as a fucking nut. The ragdoll stuff with lighting will be really good fun once they hit experimental.

Haven't you heard? Since Rocket announced his decision to leave the project in a year or so, everyone has given up on developing the Alpha and they've all been moved over to Arma4 development.
-
The analogy here, for me at least, is that the Alpha is like a house being built. Just now it's got walls and foundations but no door or windows. Hackers are thieves in this analogy and if you leave something valuable in this house then the thieves (hackers) will be able to get at it easily because there is no door or windows. It not until the house is completely built can you start to install a burglar alarm. Ultimately everything put into place just now is just a side measure (VAC/BE, etc) because they can be easily slotted into place - think of them as movement sensitive lights that scare away potential thieves. It's not until the whole house is finished can we properly look at the issue of hackers. The bottom line is that hackers in SA are considerably, vastly, immeasurably less likely than in the mod.

How to deal with hackers now combat logging has been introduced?
rickyriot replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
Without actually seeing it first hand (ie: not witnessing it your end, but seeing it their end) you can never be sure that there are hacks going on. Personally I accept them as part of the online gaming community, and while I never indulge (I enjoy the challenge of the game too much) but I have friends who have in the past used them (not in DayZ, mostly CoD and BF on the PC) and as a programmer I've discussed how to implement them. So in that sense I'd like to feel I have some idea of what hacking looks like on the receiving end. With that in mind, do I think that the situation I encountered was hacking? Yes, probably. Am I certain? No. Of course it could just be someone with huge lag coupled with a random player finding my logging out body and the combination of those two things resulted in what looked like a hack. However, and I suppose this is my fault for not videoing the incident, from experience of both DayZ (SA and mod) and hacking in general, it would be my conclusion that hacks were involved. Several things lead me to my conclusion. One being the angle in which the person entered the upper floor room opposite the fire station; they entered from the side that has no content (ie: inside the walls). This might be just a case of a simple "wall glitch" which is possible just now in the Alpha and isn't really a "hack", however couple this with them appearing through two other walls at once at ground level seemingly "at will" suggests that is not the case as wall glitching takes a bit of practice to find the right place to enter the wall (not that I have done this I should point out, just stating what is known). Finally after running away and finding a new hiding place for either the same person or another person who looks absolutely identical to the player I just killed, to find me so quickly and to once more come through the wall once more suggests hacking. Ultimately, do I think hacks are available? Yes, because that is the nature of the beast. Do I think there is any way to stop people hacking? No. Do I think that hacks were used here? Yes, purely on the Occam's Razor principle. Do I think there might be a solution in order to log out from your character if you are "under attack from a hacker" and thus preserve your gear (or at least some of it)? Perhaps, hence this thread. -

How to deal with hackers now combat logging has been introduced?
rickyriot replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
The question is sort of posed to everyone, the story is only supplemental, however I'd like to think I could at least do some damage to them in some way and/or manage to exit with some of your gear intact. Naive as that sounds. Don't like just standing there. After all they are only going to use your gear against other people, I rather empty out all my clips so even if they get the weapon they don't get the ammo. -
Just think how many times you must have read that Alpha warning... Seriously though, we all know that the damage is rooked just now and needs serious work to get it close to being realistic.

DayZ Experimental players should have a subforum...please?

You don't play experimental, do you. You can tell. -

Have my beans. It's an unwritten fact that those who play the experimental branches are simply better people. ^_^ -
How to deal with hackers now combat logging has been introduced?
rickyriot replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
Which is why I added a TL;DR, for those with a limited attention span. Plus I hate to point it out, but there are 3 paragraphs in the OP. The bottom line is everyone knows what I am talking about splitting the "story" into separate paragraphs would take focus away from the actual question in hand and put it onto that. Now that's out of the way, "weedmasta" (giggle), how do you deal with having a hacker on your tail yet knowing you have a combat log timeout? -
Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year

It is, isn't it? Although needs work in terms of pacing and progression. That said I've been saying for years that there is a market for the sort of game Settlers used to be. -
Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year

So where did that happen? From what I can see we have an Alpha that is being developed to reach Beta. That's all that was promised from what I can gather, no contract was entered into by either side. -
Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year
rickyriot replied to Hetstaine's topic in General Discussion
I've got no worries about Rocket leaving the project, he is just one man. Sure it was his project to begin with but you can't all demand a better game than what one man can deliver on his own (no matter how talented) then complain when more developers are hired to provide that better game. My only worry is that DayZ might have shot it's bolt too early. The money has already been spent by the users to get the Alpha, of those most likely to play the game on PC you would have to say the majority of them will have bought into the pre-release, which means the the PC based money pot has already been received. So where does the future monetisation come from? Bohemia will clearly want to make more money, it's only natural as they have an asset in the form of the game and the hype, but not the sort of audience they need. The only solution to that is to go mainstream and hit the consoles, diluting the genre in order to support the needs of those platforms. So ultimately DayZ will end up as a console game, with DLC. Do I care? Not really, I've got my £20 worth, just musing over it's future. -
Two thoughts on this... 1) If someone says, "hey can we handcuff you", the answer is no. If they threaten to kill you for it, then so be it, just remember to take at least one of them with you. I have a zero tolerance policy in terms of those wanting to capture me. 2) Women streamers making money from showing a bit of cleavage. Seriously, who cares? They are simply exploiting a system (ie: sexual predatory) that has worked against them for eons. Are you so hypnotised that you are forced to make donations? No. Are you annoyed at other people making donations because if it? Why, it's not your money. The only reason I have ever watched streamers was when I couldn't play a game (ie: my rig was shit and DayZ ran like a dog) and someone who wasn't a dick was able to play it. I honestly don't see the fascination of watching people play a game that you could just go and play yourself.

How to deal with hackers now combat logging has been introduced?
rickyriot replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
Completely agree, in terms of combat logging it's a bigger pain in the ass than hackers, it's also far more common. I like the idea of a combat log timer, just a little disappointing when it comes back to bite you like this. I thought I had run away far enough, perhaps the only solution was to run miles away into an open field and hope the hacker got bored with me and went after easier meat.
