(All other Console discussion)DayZ Standalone Might See an Xbox One Version in Future
rickyriot replied to Plimax (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I suppose I need to go back to my first comment on this thread, it was all about how BI gets the most amount of money out of the product it has. As PC owners have already taken a big bite at a reduced cost I can see the benefits of BI looking to have the franchise shifted over to the consoles. It's interesting you mention Rocket in your reply as I think we are all coming to the conclusion that he might not be the one driving the project on as much as we all previously thought. Perhaps that is doing the guy a disservice and perhaps he has control over the intellectual rights to the product, then again perhaps not. Who knows. I certainly wouldn't blame him for saying "fuck it, let the consoles have a version" taking the money that sets him up for a few decades then spending that time fucking about at beach parties and climbing mountains. It's certainly no different to what I would do if I was given the opportunity.. ;) -

That's an awfully long winded way of saying, "no you're right they aren't a like for like comparison". ;) However, even then, your comment above simply argues more towards my case that consoles could have DayZ ported over to them. I'm not really sure where this conversation has gone off track, and I certainly can't be arsed spending 2 pages discussing the minutia of the hardware, the drivers and the OS, but for me the premise is 3 fold... 1) DayZ could be ported to the current "next gen" consoles. 2) BI could make a lot of money from a game that has a lot of traction from very little PR. 3) BI wouldn't necessarily need to do the porting themselves, they could easily licence it out. I've been around long enough to know I can give you convincing arguments to back these up. Now if people don't agree with those statements, fine, we'll just have to agree to disagree. -

That was nearly 10 years ago though. While I am not disagreeing, actually I have always argued that consoles were just PCs it's just that their associated custom hardware differed and there is certainly an argument that they are closer now than they ever have been, but if they were genuinely that close then most console games would be ported over to PC and those ports wouldn't end up rubbish as sadly many of them do. -
On that note (ha! more puns!) there used to be a guy I would play alongside with on the mod that whenever we used a campfire at night he would feed in acoustic guitar folk music "for the mood". God I hated it. I swear I nearly shot him on several occasions.

Are you seriously suggesting it's a like for like comparison? It's not. We both know that, so there is no point in getting into that debate. My premise is that DayZ could be ported, and while it wouldn't look as good as the PC version the console owners wouldn't care as they are used it while us PC owners do get a bit sniffy about bad textures or rendering errors. -

Looks like we have a badass around here. Best not point out it was clearly a joke or you might unleash your obvious wit on me once more.. btw, "you're" :) HTH See. This guy... this guy gets it.. ;) -

Less implication and more implicit, console owners don't care if a texture flickers or is slightly out. Which renders (ha! pun!) your argument a little redundant in terms of the hardware side of things. Even though I believe that the XB1 or PS4 would be more than capable of running the DayZ engine. You are trying to compare like for like, it simply doesn't work like that, and to be fair I am sure you know this anyway. A PS4 doesn't need to care about having Windows running underneath everything, or the multitude of other processes that your PC is dealing with. There is also the fact that with DayZ a lot of it is dealt with server side. -

Here's a fun twist. What if I was to tell you that.. ...DayZ on console would be hacker free? -

Thing is console gamers don't care. On the PC if you spot a glitch in the rendering of a texture on the side of a house, for example, then you'd get 5 pages of discussion on here. If it happens on the consoles nobody cares. It is PC elitism to suggest that something like DayZ couldn't run on a console either through hardware or input problems. -

On the controller issue, let's not forget that the SA menu offers you controller integration. Not that I've tried it. I used to use the controller for vehicles in the mod (swapping to keyboard/mouse as I got in and out) but I have never managed to get used to a FPS controller game. However I don't see why a clever use of a contextual controller mapping couldn't make it easier. We also have to remember most of us are coming from a keyboard/mouse background, there are lots of players out there who were raised playing consoles and find a keyboard/mouse control clumsy and less intuitive. In regard to the porting to consoles, who is to say that Bohemia themselves would do it? After all it's quite common for different devs to develop the console to the PC versions. If a known console developing company was to come along and pay a decent whack for a licence, why would BI turn that down? Seems like free money to me. -
Sun is Blue now - is this Cryis 3 or what?
rickyriot replied to Lordocalot's topic in General Discussion
Doesn't everyone else use this as a tactic when looting towns? If there is sunshine I make sure it's behind me (which generally means coming from the South) so that if anyone is tracking me, or looking to shoot at me, will have to deal with the glare. Not so useful during the rain of course.. ;) -

Disagree. The console hardware is more than capable of dealing with the game engine and to suggest a controller isn't complex enough is just PC arrogance (no offence, btw). -
It is a bit of a shame that those who get introduced to the game in the current Alpha form didn't get the "OHHH FUUUUCK ZOOOMBIE, FUCK FUCK FUCK... ARRGHH" joy the first games of the mod brought you. Those who got introduced to the mod tended to ask, "how the fuck do you survive more than 10 minutes" rather than "I'm bored after 10 minutes" which is sadly what the SA offers as is. Not that I am knocking the SA. After all those who have followed it's development knows exactly why it is like it is now and what potential it has.

Bottom line? BI will want to make the most of the asset they have in DayZ. It clearly has more traction than they thought. As a lot of people have bought the Alpha it's unlikely to be a big take up of the game when it hits Beta. If you were looking at it from a financial point of view you would look to move over to consoles in order to monetise your user base in several ways, one being a higher price tag than the Alpha was and with further purchasable DLC. I am not trying to piss on anyone's cornflakes here, it's just solid business logic. Go to an audience that is already locked into high prices and a willingness to purchase extra content. Of course shifting DayZ onto consoles would have a fairly big negative hit on the game that PC players had got used to (granular controls like keyboard and mouse would clearly be out, replaced presumably by motion detection and game controller meaning the hitbox and interaction with the environment being altered to reflect that), but then on the flip side the PC modding community would take the job of retaining the PC game feel. -

What means when is green number 100 at right corner?

Considering the level of accuracy (or rather inaccuracy) things like the M4 has I don't tend to mess with the zeroing if I have a standard non scoped sight. -

rickyriot replied to wuffi (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Generally your character survives up to the point you either say, "Hey, guess how long I've been alive" and/or you make a thread asking how long other characters have been alive. Quality > quantity.. ;) -
Sun is Blue now - is this Cryis 3 or what?
rickyriot replied to Lordocalot's topic in General Discussion
The colour is relational to their heat. When stars are due to go nova they will burn colder as they run out of material to burn. Our sun cannot go nova, it's too small. -
I don't want to offend you, but this highlights exactly what is wrong with console gaming. I'm all for statistics; distance travelled, zombies killed, longest character survival but to work in achievements is devaluing the game itself.

All the Eurogamer.net videos have been horrendous. For a "professional" outfit they make themselves look really amateurish.
