  1. I suppose there is an argument either side regarding water, as we don't know what it is that has caused the outbreak. Could it be in the water table already? If that was the case then pumps would be infected. I add it in not so much as a realism element (although we would agree that for realism standing water should be infected) but to make the game harder.
  2. Thank you. Not so much a why. You could ask the same question why should it be colder? I'm purely putting it forward to make the game more challenging. Even then, I think it's unlikely in general that women would have more body strength (and everything that is associated with that, for example controlling the kick of a weapon). I am in no way suggesting they are inferior. Not at all. They are different though. Providing more dynamics to the character we play would be, imo, and interesting addition.

    Anybody else super excited about...

Does this approach work for you OP? I admire someone who tries to sound like a retard in order to get a response, and I suppose technically that's what you're getting from me, but I am merely asking from a psychological perspective.
  4. I think the premise needs more explanation, it's too vague to give an answer on the limited information. For example if the zombie apocalypse happened either in or outside of the mainland UK how would you factor in that we're an island and have significant defences set up around the coast after millennia of fighting or defending our neighbours. How clever are the zombies? Are they brain dead hordes or like "I Am Legend" (the book, not the fucktard of the movie) intelligent and social? Are they vicious, are they fast moving? etc, etc.. All these questions which may have been answered to an extent in the thread already (forgive me I am answering OPs first question) need to be answered. The bottom line? I am pretty much a loner in life who has in the past spent some years travelling Europe and Africa on my own, I have little empathy for other individuals and I have no problem with killing someone if it's going to benefit me. My family is disparate and small and I have no kids or dependants. I know how to survive from foraging and hunting and I've got a ridiculous amount of patience so don't tend to rush into situations. I'm also not stupid, in fact I tend to be overly analytical. I realise what all that makes me sound like. Don't get me wrong I am actually a really nice guy who wouldn't shit on you for no reason and I'm happy to have a conversation with you about anything and respect your viewpoint. The reason I mention my "self psyche evaluation" is not for some ego trip, but to highlight I am probably the type of person who would survive the zombie apocalypse better than most. If anything I would revel in the current global community crashing in and around itself rather than freak out about it. I apologise if that last paragraph sounds like the braying of an egotistical cunt who has an overly inflated opinion of themselves. I understand why you might think that, but as I say it's more to bring a context of what I would think about an apocalypse (of any kind) rather than to sound cool or better than anyone else. I'm not.

    Why is hardcore so underpopulated?

Wait? What as lamecore players claiming that hardcore players are whining and/or crying? What an odd observation to make. If anything it's the lamecore players trying to justify playing the game in easy mode. We all know that hardcore players are better people, just in life in general. that doesn't really need said does it? ^_^

You didn't. That was me, and I shouldn't have done it. Not that there is any harm in exposing the man for being a cunt.

Well I didn't have any particular leanings either way. I'd prefer him not to kill endangered species as they are, you know, endangered. In terms of the difference between instructor and sergeant, there is no such thing as a drill instructor in the UK, only drill sergeant - hence my faux pas. Obviously he is US Marine Corp in the film (although in an interesting twist a fair chunk of the film was actually shot in the UK).

    Why is hardcore so underpopulated?

I prefer the term "cunt". If you want to hunt, fine, go and hunt, but at least hunt for food not for "sport" and if you are so weak as you need to get your jollies from killing things, don't kill endangered species.

I've got the feeling you're the sort of person that stands on the shore demanding the tide not to come in.. ;) No offence but that is a really daft argument you are trying to put forward.

    Why is hardcore so underpopulated?

Offtopic, but I think it's worth mentioning, that R Lee Ermey (the drill sergeant in that clip) is a massive cunt who hunts lions. Seriously, look at him, what a fucking cunt.

    Why is hardcore so underpopulated?

Well of course it's not 100% realistic, if I wanted that I could nip out to the hills and take out rabbits with a home made bow and arrow without the aid of pixels. But if we are going down the realism argument, then lamecore is considerably less realistic than hardcore, and while certain things will be tidied up; FoV, sounds, etc you will always have the ridiculous immersion killer of that viewpoint in 3PP. It's just daft, imo. The problem is it provides such a massive advantage to those who use it in comparison to those who don't it's not a case of just not using it, you need to play on a server that doesn't allow it.

    Mature Gamer Looking For Group

Just purely for the lulz, one of my previous clans had an 18yo female clan leader while the "second in command" was a 68yo male retiree. Guess which one was the more mature.. ;) In terms of clans, I'm going to wait until the game is at a proper clanning level before joining. Nice to see some Scottish representation in the thread though. :)

    Why is hardcore so underpopulated?

There are so many holes in that logic I'm actually quite impressed. Ultimately it all comes down to realism. Sure there are things that aren't realistic in hardcore mode, some of those are down to the engine itself and it's limitations, some of that is down to the game still being in Alpha, and some of that is just the way the game will always be in order for it to retain a game element to it. However what is ridiculously unrealistic is the ability to scan 360' at an elevated position from your eyeline. That stops the game from being a simulator to it being an arcade game. There is nothing you can argue in relation to hardcore being unrealistic that would trump the elevated viewpoint. Oh, dear, you were doing so well too, it's always sad to see someone fall so close to the prize. However, thanks for playing we hope you have enjoyed your night. Drive home safely..

    Why is hardcore so underpopulated?

Well at least that's a start. ;) I hate to be "that guy", but your previous reply was.. Here I made a ultra hardcore for you. You can be more awesome and cool because you can't see shit. Also fights are a lot more intense now. Happy? So... er... who is the one bitching.. ^_^ The game is in Alpha so there is a lot needing tidied up regarding hardcore, but to me playing in lamecore is just like going into a game menu and selecting "Easy" from the menu. It's as close to a military simulator as Mario Bros is.

Soloing deep north on a hardcore server....

I feel the way the map just stops and becomes endless debug plains spoils the North and West of the map. I really wish they would put mountains or deep gulleys round the edges that aren't water.
  16. I think the problem with "playstyle" with the Alpha build as is, is that it's too limited not to be pretty much PvP. In the mod I would be far more expansive in what I wanted to do. Obviously as the game progresses, the more play styles will open up. After all hunting will be possible soon.

    Why is hardcore so underpopulated?

I've got a feeling you don't really understand how the visual cortex works, but still those are some mad photoshopping skills my friend. Edit: btw, don't you realise that all us hipster hardcore players kill close up with melee weapons. We leave the sniping to the lamecore underlings. ;)

Dagwood, you need to either reply quicker, or use the quote function as I feel your comments were not aimed at me... ;)

    Why is hardcore so underpopulated?

It's funny (well sort of) as I used to love "well known" DayZ player videos when my rig was just a bit too shit to play the game seriously. I would vicariously live through them. However as I got a better rig, and started using the private servers that forced 1PP I realised that all the streamers and bloggers who think they are the mutt's nuts are really just a bit pants at the game and needed the lamecore mode just to be able to play the game. Shame really. I would never play any other FPS game in 3PP. I wouldn't drop onto BF or CoD and wish it had a Tomb Raider camera mode, yet in DayZ people seem to, without any hint of shame, claim that it's meant to be played that way - "but it's built in to the game, man, why would they include it if it wasn't meant to be used man."

Is Rocket leaving Day Z ?

He actually left some time ago, the new rumour is that he's rejoined. Keep up people..

Well the C64 wasn't my first system, that was a ZX81. I mentioned the 64 as it was the first machine I had a modem for. If I was to list the number of computers I have owned it would just sound like s pissing contest and that's sort of what I was joking about in my reply. :)

Wait.. are we playing one-upmanship here? I see your napster and MP3's and raise you cup modems, 96 baud, commodore 64's and BBS. A time before the Internet, MP3's even before 1337 existed. You see that, I've raised the bar, now I await the COBOL 74 boys to arrive and put me in my place. ;)

Would you play a game with real permadeath?

I would never play a game that had micro-transactions. Fine the base game might be free and sure the developers deserve recompense for their efforts however any game that bases the ability of those in the game world on the amount of relevant income they have is simply not a game community I want to be part of.
