    DAyZ where are thou

I think you might have a problem selling the skill tree idea as I've tried 'running that one up the flagpole but nobody saluted' to use crap business phraseology. Personally I don't think you should be able to operate certain vehicles or perform certain medical tasks without some form of "training". The character curve is definitely something I'd like to see implemented, the question is whether others will buy into it. I still feel you will have vanilla players that just want to pick up the game and play, CoD or BF style, rather than spending time learning to do stuff. Perhaps using the hardcore servers for a skill tree/character progression narrative?

    Why is hardcore so underpopulated?

So you demonstrate your maturity by using childish insults? Good work fella.. ;)

Sex Change operation w/o my approval

I'd just like to take the time to point out that someone recently started a thread asking for the ability to "act out" rape scenes in DayZ. Go on, let that sink in for a few moments..

    Running while punching? How to?..

I'm hoping that when the devs look at the melee combat, and with the new ragdoll physics that will help, they look at a way to use the person's weight against them. I've been caught out by trolls who will just run after you trying to punch you and there isn't really a way around it. The ability to trip, push away of have their momentum taken into consideration when punching would resolve this. For example if someone comes running towards me and I punch them, their momentum will basically land them on their arse if I connect well enough. Just now it seems that in this scenario if you did punch them it's got the same level of damage than if you punched them while they were standing still.

    Why is hardcore so underpopulated?

Well it's like athletes, there are lots of people who will run around in a public park, but only a select few go to the Olympics. Just think of the hardcore servers as the Olympics, the elite, the best players. ;) Oh, how hate is not the right word. Pity is the right word. It's like when you go past someone who is in their 20's and still using stabiliser wheels on their bicycle. You don't hate them for it, you just feel a bit sorry for them. :)
  6. I just don't get it, in all the time of playing SA and I've had it since it was released on Steam, I've never died from climbing stairs or ladders. I've run off the sides of stairs through my own clumsiness, but never died from walking/climbing up and down them "normally". Sure the game is bugged, and maybe I'm just very lucky, but as I say not once, ever.

    Why is hardcore so underpopulated?

I don't need to, hardcore players are simply just better people. ^_^ This thread is jam packed with lamecore players desperately trying to justify why they like playing DayZ like Tomb Raider which pretty much sums up their mentality.

    Why is hardcore so underpopulated?

Good attempt, Vicco, but that little rant just makes you sound like a 10yo CoD camper. You really need to up your game if you are going to get any bites from that sort of bait.

Do you kill non VOIP Players?

I've been without a mic for a week or so and the obvious problems that come with it. So from the flip side, playing without VOIP I will generally avoid contact but if I get caught out and with no easy exit I kill without stopping to type a rambling conversation.

    Why is hardcore so underpopulated?

Sorry to piss on your cornflakes, but the term lamecore is not specific to DayZ and for me originates over a decade ago when it was used in reference to the early MoH:AA community and the standard/hardcore servers on clanbase. To blow my own trumpet, a ladder that I have topped (with a clan of course) in more than one region.. :D

    Why is hardcore so underpopulated?

In your analogy, lamecore players are reading 3 threads at the same time.. ;)

    Bounty on Brad

I so want a bounty on my head. Not because I could walz around like a bad ass, mouthing off and earning big bucks from streaming it live while people desperately try to take me out (and failing, of course!). No I want a bounty on my head because I would hand myself in, collect those sweet sweet bitcoins and revel in the seethe it would generate from the anti-climax of it all.. :D
  14. If you look at the mod there were quite a few servers that forced the perspective, so in that sense I think there will always be a way of catering for players who are happy with vanilla but just wish 1PP exclusivity. And that's fair enough, I'm not knocking that. I also feel there will be quite few people who like a much harder challenge. How many people? Who knows, that will be the true test. I think 2% is undercutting it a little, but I don't think you have any fears of the game missing out on development in order to make hardcore all the more difficult. It's more about tweaking and enhancing rather than wholesale changes that vanilla wouldn't benefit from. Forgive me for being overly literal here, but nonsensical suggests the inability to derive sense from a premise. It's quite clear what is implied. As Sooke has pointed out, it's about increasing the challenge element. You can make an argument for all the water to be infected. Personally I like the idea of having to work for your drinking water, and remember you will always have cans of "soda" which will be potable. As for the rain, all I suggested was that it would be nice for you to have the ability to collect the rain. Once that mechanic is within the game then you can open up the argument of whether it's infected as well. As we have no direct narrative regarding how the infection began or spread you could make the case for it being in the rain, but that's just me throwing it out there, we would need to be able to collect it first.

I've never found that to work for me. I'll certainly give it another shot.

    Why is hardcore so underpopulated?

I hate 3PP, but I tell you I hate the inability of being able to look over the edge in 1PP. Say you are on top of the hospital and you need to go down the ladder on the side, how do you know if there is anything at the bottom of that ladder, or even climbing up it? You don't, which is frustrating as fuck. It's not unrealistic to allow you to see over the edge of something, which is why I think 3PP was introduced, just a guess here, btw. They really need to fix that for 1PP even if it's a keybinding that will animate you looking over the edge. Still, that annoyance aside, I don't enjoy 3PP. If I wanted to play Tomb Raider then I might, but I don't.

    >Enter hardcore server

I certainly wouldn't say hardcore servers are any friendlier. In fact the only conclusions I would level at them is that the players tend to be older. Now, experimental, I think they *are* a little friendlier, but only just and only because a lot of players tend to be on them in order to test stuff out rather than just racking up the kill count.
  18. No offence but you clearly did, post #21 in this thread; you quote me then go on to say "Calling for different hit point values..". Look, it doesn't matter. I didn't call for differing hit points and you think you were answering someone else. It's no big deal. The problem of course is that Rocket is leaving, and just reading between the lines of his streams there seems to be stuff added to the game he doesn't even know about. That's not trying to knock the guy, he has driven the project forward, and I appreciate the work he has put in on this and the mod. It's all about money though. I've had experience in working for companies that have suddenly found out their product is worth considerably more than they realised and DayZ certainly falls into that category. Look at CoD for a direct comparison. The first games were all about the PC and the community, it's the reason the devs left EA (after doing MoH:AA) to make 2019 games (which in turn became Infinity Ward) but the franchise became too much for them and we now have something so removed from it's original core community that it's like night and day. Ok, I take your point, but this discussion thread wasn't started by you, it was started by me, it's not solely about adding new stuff it's about how we take a vanilla product and tweak it to suit more hardcore game style. New stuff is great, that is a very valuable addition, but it's not mutually exclusive to tweaking what is already there.
  19. Both good additions. In fairness I do think that those things could be added to the game in general and not just limited to hardcore. Is it wrong that I am annoyed the weather works in an East to West direction, when in real life it's the other way due to the direction of the rotation of the Earth. Yeah, I think that's more likely than seasons. It would be lovely to have seasons but I think the programming behind it would be a bit too much for the final effect.
  20. Er.. you quoted me. I'm guessing you just got the quotes wrong, easily done. All we can do is wait and see. I have a sneaking suspicion that the default vanilla will be lacking a little in terms of being a difficult game to play, and that's totally understandable you don't want to make a game so awkward that it deters people from playing it. I think that's what hardcore servers offers though, a chance to really work at the difficulty (and realism) level.
  21. The holy grail for me would be seasons, whether people would be willing to play a server for several months waiting for the spring/summer I'm not sure.
  22. I've got a feeling you might think that I am looking at the Alpha as if the Beta (final?) product will be just a tidied up version of that. Obviously things will be added I am just not sure to the extent. I want a game that is difficult to play as well as realistic, I want a challenge. While the devs no doubt share that desire there is likely to be a point where they will dial back the difficulty in order to maximise the user base. Where did I call for different hit point values? In terms of mechanics perhaps I am guilty of using the term in it's scientific sense, rather than abstract. In the abstract yes.
  23. If they were all to be added then good. I would like to point out I don't want different "mechanics" or "physics" between the two, but I feel that the game will reach a point where it thinks it's realistic and hard while some players will wish for a greater level of depth and difficulty.
  24. I am not, and in fairness I thought I had gone out of my way to explain where I was coming from that. There are some basic facts though, in general women have less muscle density and less body mass than men. I don't mean that as an insult or as some sort of sexist comment. I am not suggesting that women have a lower threshold of pain, in fact there are studies that suggest the opposite, but you can't argue with evolution which has evolved human females as weaker in strength and in physical endurance than the male counterpart. I loved Insurgency when it first came out, a little less with Insurgency 2 but it was still pretty good. I've been looking at the new one and it's very stripped down look and feel certainly looks interesting.
