So when you say character name on/off do you mean it would show you their name when you place your cursor over them? -
 ..oh, I know. Any argument is going to be improved by not using an infowars link as backup.
-
I would love to see rivers and mountains in the game, especially as a way of blocking off the map rather than having the debug plains. Of course you would need to stop flying vehicles if you were to stop people from "exiting" the map.
-
You've insulted people, jumped to uninformed conclusions and now contradicted yourself within two sentences. Just give it up, you're just looking daft now. I've given my arguments as to why cowboy hats shouldn't be in the game, if you're not happy about that then really I actually don't care, but why not try and keep the thread on track and avoid getting all personal about things?
-
Which is why they shouldn't really be in the game. That's the angle I'm coming from. You want American built weapons? Sure, of course there will be some of them. Want American food and drinks, yeah, it's probably likely they would exist (and certainly the colas), but hats? I just don't believe they would be there, and certainly when travelling Eastern Europe I've never seen one.
-
And that is exactly where I am coming from, they look stupid (imo, of course) and in general everyone I've met has thought pretty much the same. It's a parody. I don't dislike them because of the association they have.
-
Yet just a few posts back you were denying someone an opinion because they hadn't lived in America, you can't have it both ways my friend. ;) And there you go again, once more assuming you actually know anything about me, while also throwing in insults. Basically all you've done is shown arrogance after arrogance after arrogance. It's not really working out for you today. It seems to be one rule for OR3GONIZ3D and another rule for everybody else. If he doesn't agree with you then you are stupid and ignorant. Seems like a typical troll.
-
Do you really need to ask if it's different from a trilby? You don't really because you know the answer. I'm sorry if you are not happy with the way people will laugh at cowboy hats in real life, but that's just the way it is. Obviously my personal opinion is my personal opinion, but that doesn't change other people's reactions.
-
Thing is Capitalism and Socialism don't really exist beyond abstract political constructs.
-
You ever lived in Europe OR3GONIZ3D?
-
Cowboy hats should NOT be in the game. Nobody outside the US wears them unless it's entirely in a mocking fashion.. ;) I'll happily nail my colours to the mast here, I hate cowboy hats and think anyone wearing them looks stupid. Obviously that's a personal opinion, but you just wouldn't get away with wearing one in your average European street without numerous people giggling behind your back.

Oooh, ooh, autotune... just think of the dreadful R&B merchants would hit voip if that was the case! -
The problem with that argument is that the USA is made up of a federation of states which while having a level of autonomy at State and even County level ultimately answers to the separate houses and to a lesser extent the president. It has to be that way of course, otherwise you'd have anarchy and an inability to keep a stable financial policy.

Sorry I should have been more specific, where Chernarus is considered to be located on either on the shores of the Black or Caspian Sea. There are obviously a few ideas of exactly where it is on the map, but it's not as Southern as Bulgaria. There is also an American base in Kyrgyzstan. The Americans were wanting to place missiles in Ukraine a while back and the Russians went mental (and I have a sneaking suspicion that some of the current trouble also involves the fall out from that as well as the historical and ethnic legacies). Obviously it's all conjecture, I'm just not convinced there would be a dedicated American base, based on the admittedly inconsistent Chernarus back story.
-
I've already said that Americana shouldn't be uncommon in Chernarus, however American or NATO bases simply wouldn't exist if the location of Chernarus is either on the Black or Caspian Sea. Would you find American based weapons? Sure, but permanent bases are a stretch in terms of the past and present geo-political landscape.

I totally agree with the OP in the sense that localised text chat should cover the same virtual distance as voice chat. I don't see the benefit of introducing global text chat though whether it can be muted or not. -
I have to admit, I admire your arrogance OR3GONIZ3D. It's a bold move, not sure if it'll pay off in the long run though.

And by simple implication neither do you, which makes either of our arguments based on a subjective rather than an objective basis. It's still in Alpha of course, but logs would be the way I would resolve it. If an admin is not available then what is the point of knowing the player name anyway? Names/IPs these are constants when it comes to non-hackers, those who do hack are not going to keep the same ones from server to server. Not too sure what the bury your head in sand comment is relating to. If you wish to be a King Cnut go ahead, but if you think you can somehow stop hacking and/or cheating then you are definitely in for a disappointment. -
Well this thread is bubbling along nicely... ..cue Americans claiming they invented popcorn, Colbert and 3D glasses.. ;)

That's true, and it is of course admirable to cater for those who are in that position. It's a considerably small percentage of the user base though. Do you think I was advocating the removal of text chat? I certainly wasn't. -
I write "If you try to run or move you will be shot. Raise your arms, by pressing F2, you will not be harmed", then leave it in the middle of the road generally in a town and generally with another honey pot item like a fresh apple or a drink. Whether I shoot at them or not is not really the main point, it's more fun just watching them stand there, obviously reading the note, then seeing them look around in paranoia.
-
I do think they need to be careful with the storage. I'm all for an Epoch level of building which will inevitably mean permanent storage for large items, but for now and to allow a certain level of balance I'd like to see storage only capable for smaller items. Backpacks certainly seem to allow that. I'm also in favour of a box that can be buried, if you have a spade. This should reduce on server and client lag (as when buried you wouldn't need to render anything on screen).

I don't think people should be forced to use a mic, but as the game is aiming for the greatest level of immersion I think it's the ideal method of communication. If you use text chat all the time you'll know how clunky it is. You can't stand there chatting to someone and then react quickly if they raise their gun to you. It's the clumsiness I have an issue with rather than it's use. -

Number of "fair" deaths > number of deaths from cheating. In short you are changing the game for a very small percentage of kills. Also, knowing the name doesn't actually help that much in terms of proving someone is hacking and/or cheating. It should be based on logs and observation of their play, done from admin level. Why would you upset me? If you'd read some of my previous posts I've said that cheaters/hackers/glitchers will always be part of an online gaming community no matter what you do, it's all about minimising them rather than eradicating them. -

Couldn't disagree more. Global chat would be abused and/or would be highly annoying, and not least of all it would ruin any immersion. As for knowing who kills you, what would that achieve? In other games if you place the cursor over a player you see the player's name, that is not the case for DayZ. The only way for you to know a name is if they tell you over voip or they use local text. I just don't see the benefit of knowing the person's name who kills you, and in fact I feel that it would remove a little from the game and for a silly analogy I could say you wouldn't know the name of the person killing you in real life. It's a bit hipster as I can't imagine many people knowing morse code, but the ability to send/receive it is a great idea. Whether or not you meant it in jest, you have my beans.
