What kind of food recipes do you want in DayZ
rickyriot replied to Pokerguy12's topic in General Discussion
For me I'll be interested to see if you can cook on a fire. Camping stoves are less easy to come by, plus fires look nicer. -
My DayZ folder is currently ~6Gb in size, and I've had every patch since it's release.

As a Scot it gives me no pleasure to be associated with such deep fried comestibles. Sadly it's not even myth, people do genuinely eat them. If you want a real shock you should google "Munchy Box" which sums up some of the worst eating habits of my native country. However on the flip side, I would like to defend my nation by pointing out there are many traditional dishes that are both healthy and tasty. -
Experimental branch.. That is indeed a beefy patch. No patch notes as of yet.

The truth about heroes, bandits, survivors, KOS, and friendlies.
rickyriot replied to Etherimp's topic in General Discussion
You'd have to say it's possible to play dead already. It's a bloody dangerous strategy of course, but as it is if you were to lie down unarmed and not moving I think it would catch most people out. -

You could care less? So by implication you care more than not? Oh, and "you're". -
Do you have a rough status of what the experimental servers are at just now? I've looked on the experimental branch thread in the Announcements forum, but the OP by Rocket has a list that hasn't been updated since the 26th of February.

And that, my friend, is why the "land of the free" is full of land whales on mobility scooters.. ;) -
Why Should I Go To The Apartments?
rickyriot replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
If you want to collect sniper ammo then the council estates (UK term, I'm guessing the US would call them projects, the EU would just call them housing) North of Cherno are the perfect place. Sadly that ammo will be embedded in you. Joking aside, there is gear to be had, but it's a bit too much effort to get to it imo. The supermarkets are easy enough to get to and there is a tech building, but other than that there is a lot of climbing for very little return. -

Cornbread? BBQ Ribs? Chilli? Have we opened the "This game is too American" thread again? ;) Let's have some goulash, beetroot and paprika soups, and potato dumplings. Good, authentic, Caucasus foods. None of your decadent western mush! -
I believe you are using the term subjectively though, and that's fair enough, but objectively a 3rd person viewpoint provides less immersion purely on the basis that it doesn't reflect the viewpoint you would experience in the real world.

Can we destroy loot while it's on the ground?
rickyriot replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
Server restarts were used in the mod because the game became laggy (presumably though bad optimisation), a quick restart solved that, it was never intended to replenish loot. Loot itself should respawn based on the amount currently in use on the server. To think of it from a very simplistic point of view if you have a town where 20 tins of beans have spawned, and someone runs through the town, picks up 4 tins of beans, puts 2 of them into their backpack and eats 2 then there are still 18 in existence, but the other two need to be replenished at some point without needing to restart the server. As I say that's a very simplistic view. -
Don't agree. What you are saying is that as you find the night cycle difficult you want to make it into a pseudo day environment. Night cycle is meant to be a challenge, it adds a whole new dynamic to the gameplay, it's meant to be difficult. I did a poll on this very subject and while the majority were in favour of NVGs, most wanted the NVGs considerably restricted. Me? I am solidly against any introduction of them.

Do you taunt people after you've killed them?
rickyriot replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
That's why I asked, as I've never gotten a reply from a voip comment when I've been dead yet I can hear my killer (or whoever) at my body. It obviously makes sense that the voip is cut off once your dead but also all sounds. -

rickyriot replied to Etherimp's topic in General Discussion
It's always the problem with generic rules, they aren't specific. I take your point. I would however say if I have killed someone and even if I don't need anything and I know the coast is clear, that body is getting hidden and if I'm doing that I'm going to check what loot they have. It goes along with keeping your trail covered idea. Of course a body is also a wonderful honey trap. ;) -

Ta. I've said a few times over voip, when I've maybe been killed as a new spawn, that the person was just wasting their time but I didn't know if they could actually hear me. -

rickyriot replied to Etherimp's topic in General Discussion
Sort of disagree with #2. Yes, it's a risk, and you need to be careful, but it's all about risk/reward ratio. If you are a new spawn you are risking very little from looting bodies, but you could gain considerably. What I would do is change #2 to read, "Immediately go into paranoia mode when seeing a dead body, it's dead for a reason." I'm also a little debatable about 9. As a general rule, yeah, I can go with it, however it's too contextual to be a hard and fast rule, imo. btw, not knocking the OP, for a first time player these are pretty decent tips. -

I know the "dead" can hear what's going on around them once dead, but can the living hear the dead's voip? I've never bothered to test it out. To answer the OP, no I don't, I don't see the point to be honest. -

rickyriot replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
Good question OP, it's not something I had even thought about before (although it is fairly logical assumption). It does, however, leave the game open to the dick move of running through a town axing everything so they are ruined and useless but nothing would respawn because they are still on the server and not used up. -

Wait is this thread a thing again? * Sigh * Ok, once more, I play hardcore because I am a better person than those who play lamecore. Everything else is irrelevant.. ^_^

Thanks mate, I think it's pretty apt.. ;) Cracking tune that. Now, just to make you all moist, we all know that BI makes money from producing "virtual battlefields" for training. This is a promo video for their VBS3...

It would be lovely to have seasons implemented however there are two main reasons I believe that they won't be. 1) It would involve too much work. Just think of how much effort it would take and how many different seasonal graphics, flora, fauna and man made, it would need let alone just the day to day things like snow buildup, or ponds freezing over. 2) If you had seasons that relate to the real world in the same way the day/night cycle does, I am not sure if people would be willing to play "through" a winter rather than just swap to a server that was in summer? As I say I would love seasons to be introduced but I just think it's too big an ask.

Good, although we still disagree on the death text at least we agree on some level of anonymity in game. :)
