Are we any closer to the removal (reduction) in the freezing? Forgive my ignorance, but I've not really followed the dev for the last couple of days.

Don't get me wrong, you've clearly done a lot of work on that, and in general I think it's a good job, but it's way too American. This close to the Russian border and with it effectively being in Europe's "jurisdiction", the involvement by American troops would be limited imo to more support than offensive. Whether it would even be done under a NATO banner at all is questionable, certainly in the current climate. In short, let's not make this whole thing about the American's screwing the pooch.
-
I like Chernarus because of it's lack of Americanism. I think adding such things would make the map poorer. If you really want more military areas, and I for one don't, let's have them as run down ex Soviet ones.

And thus, herein lies the problem in a nutshell.

The latest .47 patch was ~850Mb for me. It was then followed by a ~5Mb patch. As far as I am aware I am up to date with the latest patch and I've had no further updates in the last day or so.

Never played SWG, and only dipped in and out of PS (and PS2 for that matter), but it's clear to see that the connection is fantasy. So in many ways I have no problem with people calling their characters that in those sorts of games. When they are used in realistic (or semi-realistic) titles like Arma, CoD, BF, etc and especially DayZ I do despair.

I am tense, getting intense, to get in tents.

Yeah, WoW. I grind my teeth every time I hear it used. I don't normally watch Twitch streams but if anyone refers to their "toon" the stream is immediately closed.

I like multiple choice polls when the answers are mutually exclusive. It means I can tick every box and submit my votes. :) As for night time, people want an easy life and don't want to actually put in the effort to get more out of the game - hence why Lamecore still exists. No matter what you do you will always have some people "cheating", whether that is via changing the gamma in game or at the hardware level.
-
It's good that you are part of the experimental/testing of the game. It's bad that you use the term "toon", something that should remain in the realm of WoW where it is used to refer to your "cartoon" character. In DayZ no character is "cartoon".

Nope, I was on a low pop server (lowest ping hardcore, I wasn't server hopping) and it was as bad. This is one of those, "I've heard of it, yet I've never seen it", things. Rumours abound on the mod (where it was scripted on some servers) and have persisted into the SA (where it is part of the native weather system). I'd quite like it to happen, although that would also mean that trees, churches, etc should be hit by lightning as well.

In regard to movement, and this is not new to this update as I had noticed it from the previous one, but the inability to walk with a gun raised is a bit annoying. Just to clarify there are 4 main speeds you can move; sprint, jog, walk or shuffle. Jog was the standard movement and while it's not the best name for the movement it'll do for this argument. Previously when you had your gun out and raised but not iron sighted, you could jog around the place, now you can only shuffle - and by shuffle I mean the slow walking you get by pressing [shift]+[w]. I presume this is everyone and not just my setup.

That's not new for this patch, the pitchfork (patchfork.. ha!) has been shitty for a while. You really should be stabbing them but all you do is swipe them weakly.

I can run Steam, and my local game cache is valid (using Steam to check) however if I try to run DayZ I am told "Unable to locate a running instance of Steam". I tried to repair the app (from add/remove programs) only to be told that the resource required was not available. In the end I just bit the bullet and installed Steam over the old one and it's working (and recognising my games). So, onto the new build, it's not laggy but it's suffering big lag spikes. I was playing on a low pop server (lowest ping hardcore which sadly had very few people on it). The new zombie pathing "might" be working. I say "might" in the sense I was in one of the two story green wood buildings and I heard a zombie dicking about outside. I was in the downstairs room with both doors (room and house) shut, and a monkey came through both of them, clipping as if they weren't present. That said it did actually come through the doorway (albeit with a door in place) rather than the wall. It also used the floor properly when previously any zombie in that house would be "half burried" under the floor.

So I updated both DayZ and Steam, now no games will start from Steam at all. Nice job Valve. You can go fuck yourself if you think I'm going to reinstall Steam and all my games to go with it.

Well, three points... 1) You are an idiot if you take from my post that I am a "gunfighter" - which I presume is akin to a bandit or KoS merchant, but you have a penchant for sounding like somebody from the old-timely Wild West. 2) The game is in Alpha, there is little to be gained from just hiding in the woods. Sure if you are new to the game then fine, but to those who have been playing it from the mod days then Chernarus holds few surprises other than the new towns and the extra content. As others will also be doing this, you are at risk from being engaged whether you like it or not. 3) There have been several character wipes, those don't care whether you explore or hide under a bush all the time.

I was up at the top of the hall at Novo (I think that's the only place it is just now), thinking what a lovely spot to take out unsuspecting looters only to get taken out. I thought it must have been someone on the ground getting a lucky shot. 2 days later I was in the industrial building in the expanded part of Novo and looked out of the window and due to the way the terrain lies, the second floor window on the stairwell looks right over the top of that tower, you could easily take someone out with an unscoped weapon. So much for my false sense of security!
-
The problem with a question like this is that it starts to become a bit of a pissing contest. Sure, I could hide in the woods, only making the odd foray into a remote town to grab the occasional tin of food while for the rest of my time I would commune with the odd rabbit and random gate sounds, but what fun would that be. Sure, I'd have a long lasting character though. There was a similar thread run back about February and people were saying their character had been alive for about 4-6 weeks which was questionable to say the least - especially with the number of bugs around then. Ultimately if you are not dying within a couple of days maximum then you are either not having fun, not taking enough chances or not exploring all the new stuff added to the game.

I want to practice some sniping with my SKS... any ideas?
rickyriot replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
The radio tower on the hill on the Northern side of Svetlo. When you have a sniping weapon you can get a good look at the zombies in the town and the puffs of smoke should give you a good idea of your zeroing. From that point you'll also have a direct line onto the police station if you fancy taking pop-shots at players. If you are good enough, you can shoot the petrol station to the West of the city, but it's a bloody hard shot. -
So... logged in to test out the new zombie ragdoll. Ran around Novo and Polana - not a single Z, or a single player for that matter. I checked the player list and it was sitting at about 20. Meh..

It's funny as with each patch this thread comes into play. The current version (.47) does seem smother in parts but it definitely feels sluggish and a quick boot up of MSI Afterburner confirms this. I've dropped maybe 10 FPS in some cities and I'm lucky to be pulling more than 15+ in Svetlo and Novo. That said the card is now showing 99% usage whereas when it was laggy before it was nowhere near that (suggesting the issue was on the server).
-
In SA it's "needed" for loot respawn, in the mod it was needed because the server code was leaky and needed it just to avoid it slowing to a crawl. It would be a lovely idea. Not sure it actually makes sense (the speakers have power? and if so, who is triggering the sound?) but it would add to the eeriness of it all. Would be quite fun if you were to hear it in the distance from a town a wee bit away.

Sorry but that is a complete load of bullshit. While you may think you are being impressive by using big numbers your understanding, and by implication your experience, is massively lacking. Have you ever been in a location without light pollution and without the moon in the sky (or at it's minimum albedo)? The sky is stunning, absolutely stunning and very bright. You talk about the stars being millions of kilometres away and you are not wrong, but you seem to ignore two simple factors; their brightness when there is the no light pollution and their density.
-
Clearly us Scots are just better at seeing in the dark.
-
I can only presume that neither of you have lived in an area away from light pollution. You would be surprised just how much natural light there is once your eyes have adjusted. I am a Hyndland boy.. :) ..although have lived up in the Highlands where there is next to no light. On top of that I've travelled to some remote parts of Europe and North Africa and I completely agree with you about the amount of light you need to "see".
