Nice expansion on the idea. Many games have skill trees, few have transferable skills.
-
It's effectively called a "skills tree". While I definitely do not want DayZ to turn into an RPG, I do think for the more advanced tasks (can you just jump into a helicopter and fly it without any training/manual?) you should need some form of training. Whether you get this from information in game or via repeatedly doing a task I am unsure. Certainly providing a skill tree would add a level of value to your character than just the loot you carry so people may be less inclined to engage in fire fights or if they do the stakes of losing would be much greater than just a respawn.

Hard Contest - Do you get it? Guess the location.

So, it seems I will need to be a little sneaky with my screenshots while still giving people enough chance to work out where it is, so in that vein I give you... -
My question about the V3s is whether the devs will address the ridiculously high viewpoint when in cab using 1PP? It seems incredible that when testing it someone didn't say, "you know, this truck thing is nice, but don't you think people will be annoyed at having a really restricted view?".

Problem with this merge is that I don't think the game is shit and want my money back.
rickyriot replied to Barbosa1955's topic in General Discussion
I agree, although it does open up the question about how "safe" anything in DayZ is. If you are barricading a house, for example, it's going to be either wood or perhaps metal sheeting (which is obviously not introduced yet) however as there is a crowbar in the game you'd imagine most of that could be taken down with a bit of persistence (no pun intended). A question for later builds, mind. It's right they have persistence in the game though, after all you want stuff dropped to stay there after a reboot. -

I would say persistence is pretty useless (caveat) until base building - or at least some level of barricading - is introduced. Sure you can put stuff in a tent but you'd have to put it somewhere so off grid that it would render it a bit pointless. -
Something for the ladies... the Pink Derringer exists!
rickyriot replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
Glad to see the feminists are fighting back.. :D ..I was going to question the whole "why a ladies weapon". In general I find the Derringer quite useful. It takes up only a few slots in your inventory and is pretty effective in terms of killing zombies close range (1 shot standard, 2 shots military). It's also quite quiet (relatively), the only downside is the limited ammo it holds but that is to be expected. It takes 45ACP so if you have a 1911 or a FNX (although I haven't seen an FNX is ages!) then you can at least share the ammo, but I'll admit I tend to drop it for (the almost ubiquitous) Makarov due to it having a large ammo capacity and the ease of finding extra clips and ammo, even though the Derringer is more powerful. Oooh, matron! -
To be fair, one of us have been.. ;) However, don't worry there's little point in me adding anything more to this thread. There will be ample opportunity to discuss sniping in others.. :)

Sounds like you are just a bit rubbish at being a bandit, to be honest. ;)

I presumed this was just a map error, in the same way sometimes outside objects clip inside some buildings. -
* sigh * It's all about you isn't it?

I added beans to your post, surely that's enough indication or are you wanting a hug too! ;) Joking aside, spot on, I think I'll need to be a little more creative without being downright sneaky. I do tend to traverse the map a lot. -
It'll probably be out of your ping range, but there is a server labelled MIA that regularly goes into night time. It's in the server browser but I can't find a website for it.

I agree just out of completeness the watch should make a return. I'd like it to have maybe a little more functionality though, rather than just telling the time. Whether that is some sort of Bond-esque watch/laser/garotte combo or just a plain old pedometer (which I think would be quite nice actually) I don't know. After all we all know how to gauge the time during the day (even when it's overcast you can get a rough approximation) and with the amount that some servers reboot, it's difficult to find a night server where time would be a useful metric. I notice that some town clocks chime which is obviously a nice touch (I could have swore I heard it) although how long can these things last before needing wound?

How many times to I have to explain to you that this is not a pissing contest? Your video demonstrates perfectly the issue we are highlighting, why on earth do we need another one? It clearly demonstrates that other than point and click there is little else involved in the current sniping mechanics.
-
All this does is prove you simply do not get the point I am making. What would posting a video of showing me sniping in action when you have done so already? You, again, seem to be desperate to say "look I'm great at this game, you do better", rather than discuss the matter of how sniping is actually implemented.

Is the underground area near what I would consider a quarry (085 020) to the NE of Severo? I was wandering about there but didn't spot an entrance. -
No? This clearly shows you are. You have completely ignored the point I was making and taken it as a personal insult regarding your ability. Now if you are incapable of discussing this in a sensible manner rather than insulting me or taking a hugely sarcastic tone then really why post such threads on an open forum where people may hold alternative views to your own? I have looked at some of your twitch streams, you are clearly not a kid and should be able to deal with things like this without resorting to schoolyard pettiness.

Why are you taking such offence at this? Are you expecting me to pop round, pat you on the back and buy you a beer and say what a wonder person you are, what an excellent games player you are, then proceed to prop up your ego to an extent that if someone was to make a comment about sniping that you don't sound like a child refused a biscuit? Really, grow up man. Accept people have opinions and that those opinions aren't an implicit damnation of your "mad skills". Sheesh.
-
You sound like you have taken considerable personal umbrage at someone making a fairly obvious point, one that didn't refer to you personally, and a point that has been raised on many an occasion. At 2:04 in your video you have your crosshairs directly over the player, yet despite being 700 odd metres and even taking into consideration the zeroing you scored a hit. To me I find this closer to CoD's arcade feel. Is it possible? Of course it's possible. The question is whether it is too easy in it's current build and it's clear we are on differing sides of the fence with that. Ultimately to comment on how unrealistic the game is (your running about and eating steaks) then to round on someone for questioning the realism of the game seems contradictory, imo.

In general everything is just netting and burlap sack strips (note: strips not sacks), the amounts used pretty much defines what you get.

Generally, in my experience, whenever someone says they "won't be back", then the community ultimately benefits... -
Yeah, well a hoard is a collection, a horde is an attacking force. I presume the OP meant the latter. It's a subtle difference but it's the thought of hoarding zombies that I find funny, as in getting them to chase you then shutting them into a house.

It is Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer, pretty famous comedians, who when someone was to correct them they would show handbags. It was meant as a joke reply. Now, just because you failed to know that fairly well known reference isn't really my fault, and your barely concealed condescension does you no favours.
