I tell you what OP, in a slight tip of the hat (a fedora of course) to your initial post here is a novel twist to that suggestion. We all want to reduce KoS/banditry or at least provide a negative for those who do. Think of a cinematic like flashback of the people you've killed superimposed over your main view that can hit you at any time, accompanied by any suitable sounds or added screams. These can hit you at any time, although more likely to happen when in high stress situations. It's clearly a very left-field situation, and I'm not necessarily suggesting it's added just throwing it out there for the laugh, but just remind yourself that a mechanic like this has already been introduced with some level of positivity and that is the effect of Prion, albeit not a visual aspect to things. Oh, you old traditionalist, you...

Right, I am obviously going to sound like a right c**t for saying this, but nothing "ethereal" or irrational scares me. Monsters, darkness, etc. These things just don't freak me out. Heights, yeah, they scare me but then there is a reason to be scared of that as being at height has a certain chance of killing you. Darkness doesn't because, hell what is it? Just an absence of light, nothing is different. Monsters don't exist and certainly nothing "evil", in the sense of religiously evil, exists. However, I do concur that the ***Dook is a good film. Not scary but fun none the less. The popup book is really well done. Edit: Well that's funny, "BɑBɑ" (as in "BɑBɑDook") is automatically censored on the forum. Is this a joke by one of the admins or is "BɑBɑ" a swear word I haven't come across. And if it is, can someone tell me what it is (by PM of course) as I always like to increase my (admittedly already large) vocabulary of insults.

G500s are cunts, and I apologise mods for using such brash language but the truth must out. Logitech have a persistent bug in those things that they refuse to fix. While working they are excellent but that working window shrinks as they get older, and shrinks considerably. I've owned 2 G500s both suffered the same problem, which is all to do with the mouse buttons not retaining their state (ie: a prolonged right mouse button press becomes a series of short mouse button clicks). You know the mouse I use now? Possibly the cheapest one I've ever used seriously is this one.. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005CPGHAA ..which I bought after being annoyed at another Logitech fuck up as a stop gap until I had sorted out some money for a decent Razer. Turns out it's fucking excellent for such a low price. Go figure. Now, back on topic, isn't there someone on here who uses the Nostromo?

I have two side buttons for my mouse, I use them for... But #4: Sprint But #5: Push to talk I have been toying with using one of those buttons bound to [1] so that it brings up that item in the inventory as having a quicker way to get out your melee or pistol can be a life saver, however I have stuck with the ones I have for the following reason. #4 Sprint: Well this should be obvious. We all need a way to get top speed as quickly as possible. I still have [W]x2 bound for sprint as well (as using the mouse bind I can't bring up my inventory when sprinting however using the [W]x2 bind I can), but the ability to "get the fuck out of dodge" has definitely saved my life on several occasions. #5 Push to Talk: Probably not as common with others but let me explain. When talking you are either in passive or aggressive mode. Passive is when walking to places or sitting around a fire, etc. It's unlikely you will be needing a fast reflex at that point so in many ways it doesn't matter what keys you use. Aggressive though is a different matter. Either it's during a fire fight, and you are communicating with the enemy or your team mate (if I am on TS as well, I use a slightly different config), or you are at a 'first contact' moment with an unknown player (perhaps an erratic new spawn). In both of these occasions you really need your fingers over the keys you need so you can get the fastest response. As But #5 on my mouse is next to my thumb, having it depressed doesn't have a detrimental effect on any of my movement. My mouse fingers are still over L/R buttons and my keyboard hand isn't hampered by pressing an extra button to talk. "Why not just have your mic open and set to automatically pick up sound rather than manually?", I hear you ask. Well I am a bit of a sound Nazi and with an open mic it's not long before you hear all sorts of shit coming through their comms; music, people talking in the background and of course the dreaded feedback loop - I have shot people purely for their consistent feedback loops. Don't have an open mic near me, is the message I am trying to get across here.

You can add SweetFx to DayZ Standalone already... http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/2flqym/dayz_gfxfps_tweaking_guide_sweetfxefx/ http://sfx.thelazy.net/games/game/379/ And if you just want a quick look at what it turns out like then view this... http://imgur.com/a/xVfYy Or a video (which is sadly only 720p and not that good and is presented in mumblevision) (embedded video in spoiler) If you do a search of the forum, which will clearly give Boneboys a bit of a stiffy (*waves at boneboys*), you'll find there have been several threads on here about SweetFx already. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/161380-realistic-sweetfx-lighting-preset-for-standalone/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/199286-sweetfx Edit: Sorry that one is the mod Now, for me, getting the game running an acceptable framerate even if it looks like a pile of crap is the priority before I start tweaking it to look better.

Easiest way to get a SKS and PU Scope? where to go?
rickyriot replied to john5220's topic in General Discussion
Yeah a glitch. Some have reported it working by removing it then readding it to your inventory while others only after restarting the game. Just use the clouds (w -> e), they are the most reliable way, imo. -

Not knocking you for it, a working compass can be useful if you have the spare slot. The emphasis is, of course, on the "working" part. -

2 years on the mod and 1 year with SA, I know Chernarus better than I do most real life places! That said, it is all too easy to get sidetracked when in a forest. -

I've stopped using compasses, not that I used them all that often, and only use the sun, the clouds (always West to East) or the stars. -
Whats the first thing you do when you spawn at the Beach?
rickyriot replied to john5220's topic in General Discussion
Run! That's the first thing, and I keep running until I know I am some distance from the beach. While sprinting I open my inventory and drop my torch (keeping the battery, after all a cattle prod is a useful low level weapon if found) and rip my t-shirt into rags. Now, I've not respawned on the beach since the craftable knife was introduced so I have a feeling that might change my tack a little. -

For a while my SKS ammo was being supplied solely from carbine clips I was finding in police stations. It seems people either forget that those clips contain 39's or they don't think 5 rounds is worth collecting. -

How temporary this should be is up for debate, but as we can now use scopes without the weapon and that there are binoculars in the game, isn't it about time players are blinded when pointing optics directly at the sun?
-
Blindness for using optics directly at the sun.
rickyriot replied to rickyriot's topic in Suggestions
I wouldn't want to see any considerable time spent on this, but the mechanics are already in place, as I mentioned, when you directly look at a fireplace when it's dark. It's not as pronounced as blindness of course, but it's definitely noticeable. -
I think the question is what state were things just before "the event", that could explain the rusted vehicles. The wheat bails can technically stay like that for months. You are right about the gardens with pumpkins (that are there but aren't loot) but again that would depend on the state of them when it all went to shit. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, and I certainly agree with you about the gardens (and in general all the fauna) not being over grown, but I think all that does is put an upper limit of maybe 4-5 months or more (depending on the time of year of course).

Blindness for using optics directly at the sun.
rickyriot replied to rickyriot's topic in Suggestions
I think that you should suffer some sort of effect. After all if you look at a fire when it's dark your vision is affected, yet you can take binoculars and look directly at the sun and nothing at all. It's almost as if our parents lied to us! ;) On a side note, I would also like to see sunglasses implemented so that in 1PP you can reduce sun glare. Also if you enter a dark building you need to take them off to see. -
Came here looking for a pocket sand gif. Not disappointed.

Just now FPS, and to a lesser extent ping, are the biggest drawbacks for DayZ PvP imo.

Replaced by the cooking stand. You can attach your rifle to it in order to gain stability. No, not really, just joking. I've not seen a bipod for ages.

Ok, so we know have a way of getting fresh fruit and veg loot through farming or foraging. Apples and berries have been part of the wilderness for some time now and with the introduction of peppers, tomatoes and pumpkins that can be grown is it not now time to remove the fresh fruit loot lying around? The pros: Realism. Fresh fruit would spoil quickly, if not just from entropy but from flies and other insects. To find a pristine banana after that time seems a little odd to say the least. An apple can be fresh as it's still on the tree but once picked we all know fruit and veg will start to spoil. The cons: Loss of loot items. At present we would lose several items from the loot table; potatoes, bananas, kiwis, zucchinis and oranges. However these could easily be reintroduced as items that you could farm; although considering the climate/location I am not sure that kiwis, oranges and bananas could be grown. The one I am unsure of is potatoes. They keep for some time if stored correctly.

Yeah, the problem is I don't like Americans the high ping.. ;)

Time to remove all the fresh fruit/veg loot?
rickyriot replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
I take the point, and it's certainly valid. Allow me to counter. Removing it wouldn't affect the testing process negatively, if anything it will aid with testing. Distributed fruit/veg is treated like other distributed food in tins, so that loot respawn logic would not be effected as it would still be getting used while the farming element needs more testing as it's just been introduced. Removing the distribution of the fruit/veg will encourage people to farm more fruit. -
I tend to be like a bad sex partner, in and out quickly without anyone noticing! ;) In my experience I tend to find groups will hit a barracks rather than lone wolves (like myself) so if I spot one I expect to find 3 or 4 following at a close distance so will bail rather than engage. If you can find me a reputable private server that is 1PP, Persistent, UK (or EU depending on ping) then I'd play on it.

Anyone who goes to anywhere that has military loot and doesn't expect to be either watched or attacked is probably relying a little too much on luck/the milk of human kindness.
