I ment to reply to rick. sorry man. Next bowls on me.

The only cashgrab was not making a kickstarter. Releasing as alpha helped fund the game, and make BI take it seriously. With all of BI's toys and talent at DayZ's disposal, expect a very beautiful game. Its not just dean. BI believes DayZ can be a great game and fully support it. Hell. Even arma 3 has gotten stuff from DayZ now.
-
You are a little ill-informed there. BI has many programmers working across different games for them. They are fans as dayZ as well, and working hard to make sure we have a great game.
-
They hired 25 more people into BI to do the AI for zombies and animals. Explain to me how that isn't development? Catering to the current state of the game would be pointless. Its best to be treated like a sandbox at the moment. Fuck around and help find bugs so devs cant make the game better. Environmental artists will most likely appreciate clipping and floating map objects.
-
Alpha for them.. I suggest looking at VBS3, another simulation currently in production. It is absolutely stunning. I just can't shell out the $3000 price tag. Arma got a lot of the tech though, and dayZ is next in line.
-
They hope to have the game in beta by 2015. Usually beta is just a bunch of tweaks and balance along with last minute additions. This is one reason dean wanted to leave Project Lead at the end of the year, else his ideas might keep the game in development too long.

The roadmap sums it up pretty well. these next months are minor things with some major systems being updated. Those major changes are something engine programmers have been working on for months. Summer/fall is when you can expect to see a surge of major changes considering that is when we can expect vehicles and barricading. The later being pointless in the current state of the game.
-
Most of the stuff in game is currently placeholder while programers can get critical core aspects working. Its not a small job like working with a sdk and script extenders. The fact devs can keep it a somewhat playable game in this state is amazing.

Take that avatar off right now. You don't deserve to wear it. The joker is at least a scholar and gentleman.

Another game developer come to voice their concerns.

Euclideons unlimited detail.

VBS3 using Real Virtuality 4 currently in development. Shame its $3000. It looks so beautiful.
-
Yes, and they have been funded since VBS1. BIA is incorperated into BI now. VBS2 and now VBS3 engine upgrades usually make it into other games. VBS just uses expensive license middleware for real life landscape generation such as satellite rendering and real life textures, but its engine is Real Virtuality. Most of what VBS offered in UI and "gameplay" is now Arma standards. One example would be Arma 3 using Silvador.
-
Because an engine funded the last 15 years through military contracts for real world simulation is going to get beaten by an engine for f2p games. Some people...

Hey. I liked powerpuff girls...

The alpha card is a regulation card. Who cares if people complain its OP..

So after a time spent on Standalone, here are my thoughts.

Its not the devs job to cater to you. They already have been catering too much lately. You bought the product. I hope you read the disclaimers. There was no mention of guaranteed updates. Shit happens. Soon as you said "I'm a gamer" followed by "constant battle with the developer" during the development phase. I stopped reading. You claim to have played the mod yet have no idea of the standalones progression, or the fact a roadmap was just revealed clearly outlining some amazing goals planned. You complain about the engine, then say for BI to build upon the one tweaked for arma 2? The engine goodies for DayZ we will be getting will give your eyes diabetes. Here is an example. -
Rat is in the pbo files. Not sure if new or arma asset.

Seen the new tracksuit pictures. Looking sharp. Would it be possible to have it so players may keep a shirt under jackets and overwear. While they do, the color of shirt under the jacket reflects the color of the undershirt.

im not sure upcoming features are "positive" to the game

The buildings in dayz are directly influenced by areas in the czech republic. I'm not saying its the exact same country, but its comparing snowflakes. Both are made of water, but slightly different in structure. Most of Chernarus recovered from post soviet collapse, slowly rebuilding industry and allowing more foreign influences. Chernogorsk being the tourist capital with smaller cities along the coasts. This is reflected through literature, food, clothing, low cost computers, cars, etc. Also, the game map is not all of Chernarus. We are ment to be in a rural area. I agree building density could be beefed up and I can only assume this will happen with progressive map updates. The newer cities look more filled out then ones ported from the mod. I personally would love a 6400 sqm map, though its something I will cross my fingers for. 320 sqm would be more realistic. -

I never implied we are better. I just don't go assuming other counties are shit. Ive been to America and its a lovely country. Little more trash tossed on the ground for my canadain liking, but eh. Either way. Chernarus is based from real life locations you can view on google maps street view. It reflects ingame. Most cities and houses have plumbing, electricity and any other luxury we are granted in 1st world nations. Chernarus has diners, restaurants, shops, and water towers all over the place. Problem are early in development, only one type of building, and are assets from arma. Buildings are hugely still work in progress. You know all those pumps are for non drinkable water in real life, right? Most of them don't even work anymore, and I suspect it will be the same in DayZ. -
No. its fucking reality. don't like it. don't playtest. If you can actively make the decision to avoid high pop servers. You can make the decision to avoid heights.

Do you even play the game? About 80% of what you said was wrong. You must be american. If you want to talk about poor and abandoned, at least bring up Detroit. -
Something to get our hopes up concerning vechicles....

Rome wasn't built in a day -
I never even thought of the warmth two shirts would provide. I just think its odd my character can magic a white shirt out of nowhere when finding jackets.
