  1. One of the problems with a game like this is the absence of grass cover over long distances. Not only does grass not provide any cover when you're in it, it also obstructs your own vision. Are there any plans regarding this? Perhaps some very low grass sprites can be redered across large distances with the new renderer? It doesn't have to look good, as long as provides vidual cover it serves a purpose.
  2. First of all, there are many factors that contribute where the player base is going - the current, the maximum amount of players, is the server private or not? Those all contribute highly to where you can find "action". Your sample is way to short to form any conclusions I'm afraid. My friends and I roam exclusively in the north west and sometimes there's nobody there for hours upon hours on 50 man servers. Sometimes, a 25 man servers we encounter 5+ people in one hour. But the most important part is that you never, EVER have to visit a mil base or an airport to "get geared" - a scoped blaze with an MP5 as a backup is something you can get running through any town, and it's a deadly setup. The best camo in the game - have to scrounge the coast for nettings. Sure, some of the military weapons are versatile, but no matter how geared you are a blaze with a hunting scope will end you instantly from a long range. I can't count the amount of times I've killed guys packing automatic heat with a revolver or an sks - the advantages that you get from military armament are certainly there but the differential is minimal at the end of the line.
  3. Since Dayz went into alpha, the bug where you can't hear shots has been plaguing it. I can't believe that almost 2 years later it's still around and kicking. Is it really such a big problem to fix? It makes for an excellent immersion and gameplay ruiner, friend fires shot, you hear nothing, he says "I missed". Or a recent situation, friend got shot twice, I hear nothing. He's literally 2 meters next to me, bleeding and I hear nothing. I realize, many things are important. Desync is absurd (perhaps the reason why said sounds are muted - lost packets), animations/movement are sluggish, interface unresponsive. But this is one of the fundamentals of any FPS and the development team lets it slide for 2 years.

    Personally I prefer darker green colors, but that is mostly important on where you set up camp. Never get gorka. Green or Black raincoats are much, much harder to spot in the woods as all gorka variants are very light-colored. If it's not raining, I still think TTSKO is best when it comes to non-waterproof clothing. Summer hunter top/bottom work fine though. Ghillie is of course the prize that everyone wants, but from my experience, you want to be closer, not further away from the enemy when you have a ghillie, as its effectiveness isn't nearly as good from 200+ meters. That, and coupled with the absence of backpacks, makes ghillies more suitable for versatile ARs instead of sniper+smg combos, but to each its own.

    I guess the 2nd shot is very likely to miss if you're doing something like dragshots. But I would like someone to do a little bit of research regarding this so we have a consensus whether or not to use the 2ndary fire mode.

    Didn't wipe even though I joined with my characters at least 4 times during both the ddos attempts. I actually joined on the beach 3/4 times but just quit and after it was ok I rejoined where I was initially. So I wouldn't worry about safety if I was to look at my own experience, but suit yourself.

    Anyone else dislike ragdolls?

    I do a lot of fighting around Mishikino and I just give up on looting anyone I kill at the mountain slopes. He'll slide down 400 meters and even if I follow him I'll never get to loot him anyway. The bodies and terrain shouldn't be lubricated 100% of the time.
  11. There's almost never 2 1PP servers with more than 20 people on. I won't get into which game mode is "better", but I can say for myself that I'd rather not play dayz at all than play on a 3rd person server. At the beggining I was kind of expecting more and more people to switch over to 1PP after getting the hang of things in 3rd person. But apparently I was wrong and it saddens me it's so hard to find populated servers now. I figure a lot of you browse this forum, so why'd you quit? Peer pressure? Lack of zombies?

    Open up a web-based dayz map. Observe the chopper locations and just go where the density peaks. It's not quantum physics.

    I agree, and I have to say that a lot of 3PP players will switch to 1PP once they try it. Once I tried 1PP I never wanted to touch 3PP (granted, that was about 2 hours into the alpha when I just started). I agree that the method might be artificial but for what it's worth - Dead said it numerous times that the "true" dayz experience was 1PP, even though it might not be the most popular one at the moment.

    SHAME! Like I said I'd rather quit the game than deal with people looking over walls or behind corners without exposure. I don't know what the devs think about this. Do they even acknowledge it as a problem?

    No. Where is it, us? I play from EU so maybe I don't see it. Regardless you cant deny the lack of 1pp pop.
  18. We're used to it by now.. and I know the "balancing" is yet to come, but this isn't something that takes any effort (lowering/raising a few variables). Does it make sense that you drink 5 canteens of water, run for 15-20 minutes, and dehydrate? How about eating 6-8 cans of beans and still being hungry? I don't think you should stop every 20 minutes because you're thirsty/hungry. When you drink 3 liters of water and you're all set, I should be hydrated for the next hour even under the harshest conditions. Same goes for food. When you're hungry, even a little bit counts, and by that, I don't mean a bag of rice and 5 cans of spaghetti. Perhaps the food items should be scarcer to compensate, but I think that the rate at hunger/thirst tick by default should definitely be lowered.

    IIRC it was available during one of the earlier experimentals but never surfaced on stable versions for some reason.
  20. I distinctly remember barrack windows being bullet proof. Tree leaves used to be made of kevlar as well. Now since the tents have risen in popularity, I wonder how and if they interact with bullets.
  21. I do not know what's behind everything. I said I know what's behind the hunger/thirst mechanic and that's just a tick per time unit in various states that can be adjusted easily. What I want is clearly elaborated in the OP - to reduce the tedium of having to drink every 15 minutes to keep hidration, and to a lesser extent like noted by others, hunger. I've already said that drop rates might need adjustments, didn't I? The loot distribution is still in its infancy so a slight adjustment won't matter at all (when it comes to water in particular, which isn't gotten from items en mass). What I'm conveying to you is - the system you try to depict seems to be picture perfect and my suggestion will make it crumble like a house of cards. It won't because the servers are already littered with thausands of unused items, like a hundred boots in every tent camp or Library of Alexandria in every police station. Food items on the other hand are sought upon and picked up regularly. Bottom line - the loot system is flawed and won't be affected by slightly altering hunger mechanics. You seem to be in dire need of your own advice, so I suggest you just repeat it outloud to yourself. Also, the life comment? Almost choked. Didn't know you're so wise and full of life experiences but I'm thankful you're willing to share your wisdom like that. I'm having an epiphany as we speak. Your contribution? Still non-existent I'm afraid.
  22. First, I did not mock the guy who made the massive reply. If I did please outline it. I responded accordingly to the guy talking about off-topic things that I didn't even mention. Adjusting food consumption is a matter of just adjusting a few variables. You don't even have to be a programmer to know that. Thanks for the rant, on your way now since your contribution to the topic at hand is zero.
  23. Nice 3rd grade humor you got there. There's nothing "authentic" about having to restock on water that often, nor there are "careful considerations".. I mean, what could be so meticulous about a simple chore that you just have to do every X minutes.. that's right. Nothing.

    Are M4s interwined in CLE? I found 10+ augs and UMPs on helis but no M4s (only in tents).
  25. I don't know why you felt like explaining all that, because obviously dayz IS a game and we're not expecting 1:1 parity with RL - everyone knows that. My argument was that the current system regarding food consumption is not doing justice to NEITHER gameplay NOR realism. Is it realistic to lose most hydration after 15 min? No. Am I asking for a realistic system? Hell no, but something that feels less like a chore would be great.
