    AKM performance

    Hmm, it would make sense because every time I'd shoot stationary targets with a (measured up) single shot it would be a hit. One always needs semi auto. I don't remember when was the last time I used M4 full auto :P Yeah, I guess it's fucked up on experimental. That would explain why stationary people are much easier to take out. To me it also seems like it zooms more than the acog, but I could be wrong. They should both do 4x afaik. That's odd, I was expecting it to do something. I'm guessing a wooden buttstock would be better as far as recoil control and balance goes. Edit: BTW I like how it has no spread but has some sort of sway. It needs work but I think sway+no spread is much better (as a base balance model) than no sway+spread.

    NEAF Killing

    If I was crazy enough to actually help out someone I don't know in NEAF of all places, I definitely wouldn't have given him a 2nd chance after he tried to shoot me.. I'm guessing he'd end up with broken legs, naked and handcuffed.

    It doesn't award skill in the scenario I described, that's why I was specific about it. But it's not the only scenario of course.. and there are some instances where it doesn't matter like CQC etc. All in all, I think it can be worked on so it's more fun, more realistic, and more consistent (less random) - all at the same time.

    Sway for all weapons?

    I noticed that the AKM has, unlike most other weapons, sway, even in iron sight mode (unlike the mosin). The sway is irritable, moving unnaturally and sharply, in both modes. Is this one of the first steps at replacing dispersion with sway? Will you make other weapons behave thus as well?

    Helping the developent means voicing your opinion backed up by logical conclusions, while keeping in mind this game has (whether you like it or not) very strong roots within the arma series. I'm seeing a lot of that throughout this thread alone, no need to mention the feedback tracker, where a lot of us (myself included) post a constant stream of reports and bugs we find. THAT'S helping the developers. YOU on the other hand are just complaining about other people complaining, while being complacent with whatever the hell this game turns out to be. You're basically the golden customer of Activision/EA.

    So much wrong with this post, I don't even know where to begin. YOU are the one flinging insults and are accusing others or whining, in addition to supporting NOT expressing opinions or feedback for a game in an ALPHA stage.. the "this is not arma" is just a cherry on top of it all... just, get real, man.

    Um, the fact that this is DayZ only implies that this is an arma setting with zombies. DayZ has strong roots within the milsim and this exact thing is what made it popular, they aren't going to walk away from that. They aren't creating a different entity with DayZ, they are expanding what they couldn't do with the mod. There's survival, zombies, hunting, fishing, all that stuff that arma didn't have, BUT the gun combat is a core principle that is inherited from the milsim and makes sense in every imaginable scenario, given the scope, theme and heritage of the game. Agreed 100%, pretty much what I said in my previous post. Companies that milked their franchises dry thrive on people that can take whatever the hell they want to shove down their throat with a huge "thank you" grin on their face. It all starts out innocent and small, and suddenly you have 3 maps that cost 15 euros, an obscene amount of bloat, a "please-the-lowest-denominator" mentality and so forth. Just a few days ago I've seen the BF4 twitter ask people to vote it for the "Game of a Generation"... it would be tragic if it wasn't fucking hilarious. I do not think DayZ will head in that direction though, thankfully, despite the big amount of people happy and willing to accept anything on their plate.

    That's certainly not the way to go around it. Especially now that the game is in alpha, feedback is of utmost importance and you should never be quiet if something is not "good enough" (it would help having a resolution or proper justification in mind though). You paid for an unfinished product for the sole purpose of funding development and testing it, if you're not voicing your opinion about it you're doing it wrong. That said, before adding different calibers I'd definitely work on current issues, one of which is the absurdity of having a coin flip decide the outcome of shootouts. If you're firing a guy, and he's firing at you, and there's like 200, 300+ distance between you two, the only thing deciding the victor here (provided you have the same guns, and aim properly) is a randomly generated number that will decide how far the bullet will land from your crosshair. This is unacceptable. Reduce dispersion to a minimum (cut it to 1/3rd to 1/4th in all guns) and add stronger sway, depending on positioning and attachments - attachments like the bipod - a magpul handguard is not magically going to enhance accuracy. Different stocks might reduce the recoil, or vertical climb though, but it all has to make sense, unlike what we have currently. After that has been adjusted to an acceptable level, I'd add more calibers, and fine-tune the adjusted values along the way.

    Tests much more extensive than yours have been done already. Most handguns are horrible past 30m, regardless of stance, condition, fire rate or anything else. I am not saying I don't like any dispersion, if there wasn't any all the guns in the world would be perfect hits if properly aimed (not the case). But dispersion SHOULD by all means be a fraction of what it is now (1/3 or 1/4) and sway should be amped to compensate and allow us to rely on breath control and skill rather than dice throws when shooting.

    Problem is you can use any other gun like a 'stealth gun' more effecitvely. You'll have a harder time hearing the sporter, but you'll still hear it anyawy.

    VSS vintorez is my favorite gun by far.. I sure hope they reconsider using it, as there are still known guns that use that type of ammo, like the Groza and 9A-91.
  12. To me, the dayz vegetation looks like everyone did their separate tree/bush then added them in the game. They just spark with different tones and the time of day/light has almost no infulence on them. Same goes for grass, the lightning on the grass and the trees just doesn't match. Furthermore, even on higher settings, the low-poly versions look extremely blocky from a distance unlike in arma 3. Compare this: To this: Not only does the vegetation on the second image look much better, the lightning feels a lot more natural and the scene as a whole feels lightyears ahead in terms of realism. Can we expect improvements in this field?

    This pretty much.. By spawning there we are inclined to go to and thus more likely find bugs and glitches in the new areas.

    It's not the CZ. It's the damage model of this game.. too random. I shot a guy in the stomach with a mosin, point blank, he didn't fall unconscious even, yet alone dead. Just yesterday, I shot a guy in the head from an AKM, 200 meters, he had a cowboy hat (which got ruined in the process) - he was alive and unconscious when my friend got to loot him. It will happen with every gun every now and then.

    Killed 4 people at 200 meters, all single bullets to the head. Stationary, but still, this gun can be used at moderate ranges easily. Haven't tried further off just yet.

    Nope. Taiga is something you'll find in russia, nordic countries, canada etc. NOT in chernarus. Again, I live exactly between greece and the czech republic, I literally need to drive for half an hour to see a biome exactly the same as the one you're calling taiga.. only, it's not taiga, because I'm on the Mediterranean.

    The M4 is of limited use at best without MP parts, one just needs to look at the dispersion values to figure that one out. Given an ACOG and Magpul, it can beat any other weapon barring a mosin+LRS past 400m. The AKM is obviously a contender now, but we'll have to see how they balance the guns in the forthcoming updates, I am honestly hoping that they reduce the dispersion to a minimum for all guns, and introduce stronger sway based on fatigue and stance instead.

    Damage model still wonky?

    Was on experimental with a friend, shot a guy from about 200m to the head with an AKM. As he fell down, I noticed his cowboy hat got ruined in the process. My friend goes to loot him, confirms clean headshot, but wait, he's alive. Again, he had a frikin cowboy hat on. How can this happen? Even a ballistic helmet shouldn't protect you at that range (the impact force will snap your neck even if it stops the bullet), let alone a leather hat.

    There's still plenty of forested areas in A3, I don't think it's a problem, not all of it renderes at once. My main gripe is that the vegetation in arma 3 looks natural, and the light/setting affects every bit of it in the same manner. The vegetation in Dayz, again, looks like every tree was lit up by a different source of light, not to mention the horrid look of it from anything past 200 m. I wonder if it was easier to just import the A3 vegetation models (I'm sure there's a LOT of shared trees/bushes that are present in both settings) and work on how light affects them..

    Thanks for the elaboration. I know that the guy was bleeding because before checking him, my friend said "I can see blood dripping from the floor, he's definitely down". So he took a headshot, was bleeding, it was 200 meters in a building, my friend took ~2/3 minutes to get to him, after which he was still alive, miraculously. Head gear was all ruined, rest of the gear - intact (definitely headshot).

    I know. I live in the mediterranean (montenegro), and I've been to greece several times, as well as countries like germany and north italy more akin to chernarus, the climate is very much alike and can change drastically after just a half an hour drive depending on elevation. Altis has very different based on where you are (some regions are mountainous and very much alike chernarus) exactly like my own country or greece. Furthermore, this has little to do with what this topic is about.

    Chernarus and Altis don't have that much of a different climate. Both are european countries with a temperate climate. Not to mention, the way light blends with the vegetation should be uniform regardless of climate.

    People who used to be "good" but now KoS were never broken. They just stopped pretending. I never did that. I always killed almost anyone with gear I came accross, but the morals I have will never be "broken" - as those morals are the ones I don't impose on myself for no obvious reason, they come naturally, and that is never to decieve or kill someone who had the opportunity to kill me but chose to spare my life, or someone who gave me supplies when I needed them. I won't backstab anyone who was kind to me, no matter what treatment I get in the game... but again, at the same time, if I don't know you and see you first, you're probably going to die.
