Ok guys, I understand the realism aspect, but there is also game-play to consider. At the moment, whenever I spawn, I run straight up to a well point, drinking until I'm full, and then just start legging it because I know I have a good 2-3 hours of running before I need any sustenance whatsoever. How about wells have an initial amount of water (lets say, the equivalent of 8 or 9 bottles of water) after which they run out and slowly replenish (at a rate of 1 bottle every 5 minutes). That way they at least become more like commodities rather than never ending infinite resources.

EZ mode. Popular with the kids these days...
Imbalanxd replied to jjw100's topic in General Discussion
There is a bit of a flaw in your logic OP. If we look at the three difficulty groups, you say that KoS is the easiest. Well, lets pretend that KoS is no longer an option, and doesn't exist in the game. It is now impossible to KoS and that group completely disapears. Now the other two groups have nothing to fear from other players, as it is impossible to be killed on sight. Heroes can now help everyone, as they were going to do anyway, and the ordinary players no longer need to feel threatened or unsure about another player, as they cannot be killed on sight. The game has turned into nothing but a running simulator and occasional zombie shooter. A shit zombie shooter at that, with zombies that can easily be outrun, outsmarted, are very slow, and are piss easy to kill with absolutely anything. You have essentially killed DayZ. This game is what it is because of KoS. Never forget that. -
Got attacked in Cherno, when I was editing the video I noticed he had been following me the whole night.
Imbalanxd replied to beeshke's topic in Gallery
That or this is staged. No way he could be in the positions he was in if he's "stalking" you. He was ahead of you the entire time. -
Is that going to be the real Dayz Standalone??
Imbalanxd replied to johnymst's topic in General Discussion
Hey OP This piece of shite made 5 million dollars in its first 24 hours of sales. I guess they stole all those people's money because they didn't know they were buying shite right? Oh wait, its still number one on steam 2 weeks later. I guess you are just plain wrong then... -
I think the original idea was that the loot would be "hidden", and that even a house that has been gone through by 10 survivors could still have something lurking in a corner or under a bed. However, with static spawn points, this mechanic will stop performing its desired function quite quickly.

I agree with your logic, but not your conclusion. Yes, the reason that crybabies want guns removed from Balota is moronic and makes no sense. However, the very fact that there is no tension when looting at balota is exactly why its high payoff loot needs to be removed.

Something I wanted to say (positive Alpha thoughts)
Imbalanxd replied to Nipson's topic in General Discussion
It doesn't even need to be defended as an alpha any more. The game has been number 1 in Steam's topseller list for like 2 weeks now. This despite: Never going on sale during a time of massive discounts A MASSIVE disclaimer about the alpha state of the game A very niche style of gameplay that most certainly does not cater to the majority So yeah. If you want to complain about the game being shit, if logic doesn't shut you up, the stats have to. The game is good. Face it. -
You know those retarded levelling systems that mean nothing? Like the ones in DotA and Battlefield? The ones that just waste space and add absolutely nothing to the gameplay? OP and his generation is the reason for such systems.

I was under the impression that they were both roughly the same speed, which, if you've ever tried "crouch jogging", makes sense. The difference between the two is not speed, its stealth and stamina. Crouch running is obviously more covert in terms of what enemies can see, but it makes you tired much faster.

Too many barracks and Stary Sobor tents [appeal]
Imbalanxd replied to DayZbalkan's topic in General Discussion
If the number of barracks was lowered I have absolutely no doubt that we would see 50% of the people in this thread on the forums complaining about how all the barracks are already looted and there are no guns and the game is broken and the apocalypse isn't as great as it was advertised as. What really needs to happen is people need to be discouraged from immediately going straight to the nearest military base to push button and receive bacon. Why does everybody want a military weapon? Why is it the first thing everybody does? The idea of going looking for a high powered weapon should have multiple negative aspects to it. It should not be easy to get a weapon. It should commonly result in death. It should commonly result in failed attempts. It shouldn't be the first thing you do. -
Damn this was a bad thread

Sounds like an idea that Rocket apparently has which was essentially to have characters "specialise" in things that they did a lot. Give a lot of blood transfusions and administer drugs and you become passively better at doing it. Run a lot, and you become faster. Shoot a lot of things and you become more accurate. Not massively so. Just enough to make it realistic and worthwhile. In such a system, you can freely allow players to become as proficient in as many of the specialisation as they like, because its all related to how long your character has been alive, which is, after all, the main goal. All buffs lost on death though.

Fix combat logging, ghosting and server hopping at the same time?
Imbalanxd replied to Qinerath's topic in General Discussion
I don't know why they don't just implement the WoW method. Logout takes X amount of seconds, but you can quit whenever you want, your character will simply remain where it is until the timer expires. Want to quit straight away? Well then you can't logout while in the middle of a field. -
In my opinion, the containers are currently working in a manner opposite to how they should work. When I say "container", I am referring to ammo boxes, med-packs, and lock boxes. So currently, these containers take up 4 slots and provide 6 slots. Straight up, that is pretty weird, but I suppose it is a "balancing mechanic" as most of the containers can only accommodate specific items. Ammo in the case of ammo boxes, medical supplies in the case of a med-pack. However this is DayZ, and we don't take kindly to balancing mechanics in DayZ. My suggestion is that any item within a container is protected against the ordinary wear and tear that can occur while simply going about your every day business of running thousands of kilometres a day. I suppose you could also potentially provide additional protection against damage from bullets and melee weapons. However, a container should take up more space than it provides. This is just obvious logic, we aren't dealing with Santa's present sack here.

You ran up to people holding an axe, to the point where you were apparently able to hit them when they started firing. Ye, you threw the first stone, accept your fate.
-
If you walk out of a building in third person and a hostile player is standing right in front of you, you will be shot in the face before you can see anything other than the roof.
-
All the people talking about your bad aim are wrong, and they should shutup. The more concerning thing is that you had a gun and were still in axe range.
-
You have to sacrifice 5 slots in order to be more camouflaged? OH HARK, WHAT PUNISHMENT HAS DAYZ BECOME?

Am i the only one with no performance issues?
Imbalanxd replied to DMstratz's topic in General Discussion
I'm running a gtx 780, and I have had almost no performance issues. By FPS never drops to sustained low numbers, but I do get hitching every now and then. I'm going to start increasing my 3d resolution to see what I can get away with before my frames start to drop. -
"Bandits" A rant about certain people
Imbalanxd replied to TheRedScare's topic in General Discussion
Nah. I enjoy a good CHKilroy video every now and then, but the player base where I'm from isn't really big enough or organised enough for such a thing. -
The Masks- An excellent addition, that I'll never use
Imbalanxd replied to Bribase's topic in General Discussion
I think it would be very cool if a greater array of masks were introduced. At the moment I'm still getting used to things, and do not pick up masks when I see them, even if I have nothing in that inventory slot. However, when I get more into things, and I'm playing with my usual squad of 3-4 other guys, masks would be a great way to immerse yourself in team dynamics. In the mod, your characters appearance was an OK way to differentiate one another, but things like masks could make it far easier, and adds another level of depth to customisation. Kind of how like the ghillie of the squad kind of took on that persona, and didn't necessarily run with the rest of the team. Masks could shape how players regard themselves and others. -
No hunger/thirst statuses does not mean you are healing. Here's how you heal.

"Bandits" A rant about certain people
Imbalanxd replied to TheRedScare's topic in General Discussion
You know what I hate most of all in this game? Its not zombies, or alpha bugs, or bandits, its hello kitty island adventure survivors that shout out friendly at the first sign of another player. I like being a bandit. I like killing on sight. The reason this game is so amazing is because of the fire fights that players can have, and the emotions that you can feel during them, which cannot be experienced in any other, 5 second respawn game. But when somebody runs up behind me and shouts "FRENDLY LOL", do you know what that does to my experience? It shits all over it. It leaves me in a position where I cannot, in good conscience, kill the player that spotted me before I spotted him. And what's more, I don't get to be killed for the error I made. I don't get to try and recover, and punish him for his error if he tries to kill me and fails. All I'm left with is some moron who wants to be friends in a game where all I want to do is kill other players. Don't communicate, don't shout friendly, don't share your beans. Just walk away. -
If KoS and the associated banditry was removed from the game completely right now, the game would be dead within a week. With no threat of being instantly killed by another thinking player, almost all sense of urgency and fear would leave the game. There would be no more reason to be alert and focused at all times. It would turn into nothing more than a minecraft copy where you run around building things and giving little thought to anything else. KoS is what makes this game what it is. That being said, the issue is, as many have stated, that KoS is just an obvious choice, and obvious choices are never good for gameplay. OP, think about what you are asking for. Think about how one would go about making zombies the primary threat. You can make them downright impossible to kill. You can make them insanely fast and impossible to shoot reliably. You cannot increase there numbers to amounts which make them impossible for players to manage. This is unfortunately a technical hurdle which nobody has been able to overcome yet. Not just in the ArmA engine, but in gaming in general. Even a game like L4D2, which arguably has had the best zombie AI of any game to date, had to limit their numbers to 40, and this on a very small and limited map. Numbers are simply not an avenue that can be explored in making zombies more of a threat. In my opinion, zombies should definitely not be the primary threat. Zombies are stupid, they're melee, they're slow. That isn't a threat, and it shouldn't be. Zombies should be a threat when combined with fighting other players. The primary threat they should pose is either in revealing an enemies position, either through seeing a zombie chasing something, or in a player being forced to shoot a zombie. Or they should pose a threat in that they prevent tactical positioning.
