I was shot to death by an m4 while hiding behind a bookshelf. The bullets passed through the entire width of the shelf.

Sawn-Off IZH-43 - Very bad Accuracy
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to YassirX's topic in General Discussion
You can fit the sawed off shotgun in your pack. The regular shotgun must sit on your shoulder. Personally I haven't used it but you could give the sawed off to a new player to test their loyalty? Worst thing that can happen is you get a little bee sting right? -
ULTIMATE bandit hunting squad
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to DropBearChick's topic in General Discussion
Please post up details about how this goes. Personally I feel like any more than 2 or 3 guys is too many if you want to effectively hunt kos bandits without becoming a target yourselves. -
Losing your player kill virginity.
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to senorrambo's topic in General Discussion
After getting fully geared up with my first Mosin & long range scope I headed back toward the coast. Inspired by the wolfpack videos on youtube, I decided to head to Kamy to help some new players... I had met a friend there the previous day and had noticed a large number of new friendly players in that crossroads town (had several decent interactions there) so I figured that would be a great starting place with a high chance of seeing new spawns. I was hanging out in the hills above town and noticed a couple of stray bodies in the alleys between houses, but not many live players. Eventually I spotted a fresh spawn coming up off the coast running full speed so I decided to go down there and make contact, but at street level I lost sight of the guy. I got down to the main north/south highway and saw just a pile of bodies in the street, maybe 10-12 bodies, some of them with backpacks and helmets still on. Fortunately the rush of doom that overcame me caused me to instinctively run back towards the tree line instead of immediately searching for the killer. Because of the body count I reasoned that the killer must be still in the area, possibly with backup. Once I felt reasonably well hidden in the woods I began tracking new spawns from afar the same way the killer might, figuring this will lead me to him as he will also be tracking the same player. Sure enough I tracked this new spawn through Kamy, south toward Elektro, and as he was leaving the Kamy town limits this fully kitted player emerges from a cabin with a mosin and a green mountain pack, following a shrub line and fence with his back turned toward me. He shoots on the fleeing new spawn, firing wildly as bambi darts back and forth trying to dodge bullets and exit toward Elektro. I'm able to contain myself enough to gain a good line of sight, prone, and line up the shot from my wooded hillside. I breathe slowly. First shot hits (I think), second shot is the confirmed kill, a lung shot and blood everywhere. The disgusting husk of what was once a player crumbles just like the zombies I had practiced on. The shot was 423m according to the web map, which was near my outer limits for accuracy at that time. I waited around for a couple more minutes and since the foul creature appeared to have no friends I decided to leave his kit for those he meant to torture. This was one of my most memorable and satisfying video game experiences ever. Without you, KoS halfwits, moments like this simply would not be possible. -
What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
I personally have not seen any hacking against myself, or see hackers kill anyone else when I've witnessed killing from afar. Steam says I've played 55 hours. I believe most problems described by the OP are a result of difficult/realistic game mechanics coupled with lag & rubber banding issues. If OPs friend was unloading 30-45 rounds at an enemy that sounds like spray and pray, which will not work with the already fairly inaccurate M4. -
Food Is Too Easy To Find, Srs
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to King of kong's topic in General Discussion
Play on a server with 30-40 people in it. You can essentially adjust the difficulty of the game by varying the size of the server you play in. Sounds like you're ready to lose the training wheels. -
We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.

Sounds like you don't have what it takes to bring justice to the mean streets. :P -
What do you do when in a mexican stand off
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to gannon46's topic in General Discussion
I was in a few Mexican standoffs just last night. They were all resolved verbally with all players going their separate ways. No injuries or casualties somehow. Deliberately putting a building or tree between the players fields of fire is a nice safeguard during negotiations. -
10 minute is not enough to loot dead bodies you put down
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
Piles of bodies in the street is an indication of a KoS assbag in the area, helpful information for bambies and fully kitted players alike. The 10 minute body decomposition time white washes the atrocities I've seen on the streets of Kamy. If the devs want to stop players from gearing up by looting their own bodies they can just make bullets/blood fully eliminate some items in inventory instead of just degrading those items. -
sounds like you're getting a little too attached to your gear. Your shoes do not define you. Your bean consumption is not representative of how much fun you're having.

Should we be able to carry two rifles?
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to Rōnin Rick's topic in General Discussion
I was disappointed to find that my player can carry a fire axe AND a long gun at the same time. I think gameplay would be better served by making players choose to give up a sling carried melee weapon for a sling carried rifle. I think it could make things more interesting when the most powerful players have to sound off every time they want to kill something. -
In honor of the generosity in this thread I plan to risk my fully kitted self defending new spawns (killing KOS vermin) on the coast. God help me. Not all kitted beach goers are bad!

Why do people not talk back???
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to phamilton82's topic in General Discussion
Personally I only talk to other players via mic and don't even know what the type chat button is. If I knew what it was I wouldn't use it. You're liable to get killed typing a message. I don't trust the typers, and even worse are the people who say and type nothing at all. Can't trust those mutes and mimes, squirrely bastards. -
Does the hide body function work for dead bodies?

how do you hide the body exactly? -

Poll: Should a logout timer be implemented
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to soapsalesman's topic in General Discussion
I think it's gotta be at least 30-60 seconds. I would even like to see a long delay while entering a server where you can see but can't yet move. That would reduce server jumping for gear. -
The developers believe the current night time is not realistic and they have confirmed that they have spent almost no time on night game play, especially with regard to night time shaders. Just like with the soundscape, the night time landscape is getting a full rebuild from the ground up. Patience and perpetual daytime in the mean time.

Great ideas Draco. Even if they do one of these things you suggest it would really add to the game.

The reason why i kill on sight now !!
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to africanhungergames's topic in General Discussion
You gave these guys guns and ammo (ill advised for reasons you now know) and didn't even talk to them via Mic? If you can't put this one together on your own you probably have bigger problems in life than day z shenanigans. It's easy to help people without threatening your own safety if you think it through. The brutality of this game can't be underestimated... Ever. -
Vehicles, added equipment, and tighter supplies are going to change everything. Right now kos makes sense. I don't do it but I love that other people do, and I kill them happily for it. Later on, after several updates, there will be additional factors in play that change the equation about should I kill or should I not. Kos is risky behavior and can end in the killers injury or death, and in my experience it usually does. Many people would not do this if they're trying to find a wrench to fix their car so they can pick up their buddy who is being tracked by a gang of bandits. Idle hands, devils work, etc. With time the gameplay is going to change dramatically, and probably in some very exciting ways.

Favourite Clothing/Camo?
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
I like the spring hunter pants because they're a little more tan and a little less green than ttsko, making it easier to hide in the open in a wooded area (where ttsko would have an advantage in bushes). Coupled with a tan tactical shirt I find this is a great setup for urban and wooded areas. This setup is particularly good for gravel roads, underbrush, and those fall colored bushes. Really though any camo can work if you play right, even white/winter pants or all black. I never wear the clown masks anymore. Aside from making you look like an asshat, they're pretty easy to spot. -
Putting a hit on bandits / kill on sighters
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to gunslinger_ka's topic in Suggestions
doesn't account for self defense. doesn't even come close to approximating justice. never gonna happen. -
 :P cool ideas and pics!

I can shoot ambi, would it account for that? Do you really want this game to get that technical when there are so many unresolved issues?

wear headphones or turn up your volume. I have no trouble hearing someone sneaking around crouched from a few rooms away if I'm wearing headphones.
