Is there going to be a feature to tagg people as friendly?

You can just agree on a uniform or color just like a military or gang might do. -
Is Spy Infiltration wrong ethics/cheating
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to Dragor69's topic in General Discussion
If you're trying to use this tactic as a bambi hero/bandit eliminator you should use the following criteria: The group you're infiltrating has a proven and directly observed record of killing without cause (a charging bambi with fists out is just cause for self defense)The spy that infiltrates can't directly KoS without just causeDon't troll and Kos these players after their deaths unless they continue their devious ways after their respawn - a new life is a new chance. If possible, tell the group that you killed them because you saw them Kos/torture/whatever. They should see that their actions cause an opposing reaction. It's not necessary to ever reveal your spy -
IIRC only pristine handcuffs will hold a player, so it's likely that these idiots put their trust in some defective equipment they looted from one of their kills. From a distance, guns beat hand weapons but up close it's the hand held weapons that have the advantage (both in dayz and in real life). People see a lot of movies where guys come up close to an unrestrained person and put a gun to their head and control the situation fully. In real life an unrestrained person has the advantage over the trigger puller at that range. http://www.your-krav-maga-expert.com/gun-vs-knife.html

sacrifice my can of beans as well!

Hilarious! I'm looking forward to the warning letters, like "Elektro is my turf brah, you enter and you die" What they need to do is allow you to attach paper to a stick to make a sign. There's a distinct lack of communication across time in servers.

How often do you die from glitches?
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to infiltrator's topic in New Player Discussion
I pretty much only die from glitches. Once you know how to move around and spot/track properly the glitches become the primary threat. I believe I've died 3-4 times from glitches and once from a silent KoS guy... idk it's been a while. -
Can anyone confirm if you have control of 2 characters now? One for regular and one for hardcore right? Both characters can exist on separate hives??

Killing filthy surrender monkeys..
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to Geckofrog7's topic in General Discussion
People really need to consider the cost benefit analysis at work here. Most players do this either consciously or unconsciously. In this scenario this KoS sniper is taking shots at an easy target. You're an unarmed bright orange mark piloted by a creative human brain... perfect target practice for the bored and unskilled. You provided him with target practice and there was little incentive to not have a go of it, then you made him bored or frustrated by stopping out in the open with your hands up. Clearly you would have been better off running away... might I suggest a tree lined hill or urban jungle next time? That's an incentive for him to stop shooting you. Get on your mic and tell everyone in Elektro that a helpless idiot with a perfectly good gun is chasing you. That's incentive for someone to help you by relieving the neanderthal of his boom stick. You've gotta flip the script next time brotha! -
Stories and fresh dynamic game play are what make Day-Z unique. Your story did not disappoint.

What will make me trust another player? Solo players v. Solo player
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to Gimpylung's topic in General Discussion
Options 4 and 5 are the ones I go with, though I completely understand having a KoS disposition in the airfields which are super dangerous. I generally try to avoid making contact with guys with guns unless they're in a building and I'm outside. If two fully armed players intend to talk it's really best to do it with hard cover separating the two parties. Like if you meet in the woods just get behind a tree to talk, no need for face to face. I agree that friendlies tend to keep a good distance and will also understand your need to maintain distance. It's very hard to gauge a players motivation at distance unless they just start shooting other players. Friendlies and KoS players will sneak around and try to remain unseen. A countersniper will take up a position just like a bambi killing sniper might. -
How I have stayed alive for 6 weeks on a single character

It would be great to see career specific clothing provide unique benefits with trade offs. For instance your bright white doctors coat can hold two first aid kits and nothing else. Your bright blue mechanic overalls gives you 8 slots that can only be filled with tools. The bright yellow firefighter's coat allows you to carry 3 fire axes and no gun. If they implement a mechanic like this it could really make for some exciting and variable player interactions.

Bicycles and shopping carts could also really have a revolutionary effect on the game. Bikes would increase the demand for food and increase the mobility of the average player. Shopping carts (or even wheel barrows) would facilitate larger projects down the line like base construction and auto repair, obviously with the player having to sacrifice a great deal of mobility and protection in order to move their items. You might even see the rise of slavery/indentured servitude if they add wheel barrows. Handcuff a guy to a wheel barrow? Sounds like Day-Z.

Stairs And Ladders Glitches?
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to Bruce of Wayne's topic in General Discussion
Tenement ladders: On the roof of the tenement is a box with another ladder on it to get to the very top. Coming down from that ladder I was teleported about 20 feet behind me off the edge of the building, dropped the whole distance and died. My friend was on the roof at the time and he went down and found my body on the opposite side of the tenement from where I fell (about 100 feet from where I saw my body fall). The server was low latency, low lag. -
They need to include a blood test kit in the medical pack in place of one of the rolls of bandages - we can improvise bandages from discarded clothing all day but those blood test kits are a bitch to track down. I'm seeing them on average 1x per 20 hours of play. Sure I can just have a friend draw and carry my transfusion but if knowing your blood type becomes common you will begin seeing more blood bandits and other such tomfoolery.

Best Place To Find M4 In Electro?
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to bmanbman28's topic in General Discussion
Probably the easiest way to find an M4 in Elektro is to kill a bandit and take his. The best way to find one is to have your friend kill a bandit and he covers your ass while you close in to get the gun. -
How Not To Surrender - Short Video
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to Miquinei's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for posting that vid. I've never had someone try to quick draw on me like that so that video is a big help for me. Good job. Wondering why he didn't just give up if he thought his buddies down the road could have saved him. He was probably all amped up... probably his first time. Side note: this is why I don't even carry a melee after finding a primary and secondary gun. When you have the axe you're tempted to pull it out and get caught with your pants down. I don't turn an urban corner without my gun out, usually even have my gun up. Too many ok corral kiddies out there to go unprotected. -
LOL

So With All The Books In The Game, Here Is An Idea To Put Them To Use.
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to Slyguy65's topic in Suggestions
I think this is an awful idea... Forced reading in a video game? Is this the sort of thing teachers talk about in the teachers lounge? There are plenty of good rpgs out there for this sort of gameplay, also plenty of good books to read should one choose to do so. I really don't see how simulating mental health has a place in this game when you already have perfectly good brains engaged in the myriad game mechanics, already cut throat and brutal. -
Gentelmans way to mosin around.
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to libera_avis's topic in General Discussion
Cities on the east coast are the ones most likely to contain a new spawn or kos bndit. Also elektro is a Damn mess most of the time. I usually hear gunfights on approach to elektro in 30-40 man servers... Can't recommend going unless you just want to gun fight with gun fighters. With your sniper kit and the appropriate tactics you should focus on setting up an unfair fight vs bandits.
