Don't get in fistfights? -
I am open minded about your way of playing DayZ, please tell me about it
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to Nesuma (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I LIVE to kill kos players. It's the highest satisfaction one can get in dayz. I don't normally help new players by giving gear but will provide armed protection in some cases, if they seem trustworthy and respect my distance requirements. I never shoot a newly encountered player right off the bat and I haven't been shot in more than 6 weeks playing this way. -
Alcohol/Vodka via fermenting rotten fruit - medical, fuel, weaponized, drinking
Old_Crow_Whiskey posted a topic in Suggestions
We should be able to ferment rotten fruit (or regular fruit/berries for that matter) into pure alcohol for the following uses: Medical - cleaning wounds, sterilizing ragsDrinking - What's the apocalypse without a little Pruno (prison wine)?Fuel - pour it into gas tanks for extra fuelWeapons - combine it with rags, a bottle, and light it with a match for a molotov There could be two options for the fermenting process: locate actual static copper stills, commercial distilleries or home brew style, throughout the map which will accept the inputs (fruit, wood, matches, gas can) and give outputs (pure alcohol in a gas can). This method should be 100% safe.allow players to make home made stills (crafted using cooking pots & car parts) which can be used over a fire. this home made still should have a % chance of blowing up and killing the user, lets say a 5% chance of instant death and a 15% chance of a burn injury. Output is alcohol in a gas can. Historically, fermenting is a way to store and preserve the calories in food. It's also a survivalist type of skill since alcohol would have so many important uses in the context of an apocalypse. In the context of dayZ distilling or brewing could provide a use for rotten fruit which would prompt well geared players to actually seek it out throughout the map. This could have the added effect of spreading out well geared players more evenly, making them more likely to turn up in small towns and grocery stores. If there are stationary distilleries there could be disputes over the territory or gunfights/robberies over the valuable finished product. Back country moonshining type distilleries would be inherently risky outside of the risk of explosion, simply from having to light a fire and create smoke that gives away your position. Industrial vodka still tucked away in a factory somewhere: Super dangerous home made still: -
Mosin + Prone position + Bipod deployed + Hold breath -> strong jitter after some recent patch

ouchie noises would be nice. Also your arm doesn't shake, the gun shakes. Your arm functions normally when not aiming a gun. -
If You Could Add Anything To DayZ What Would You Add And Why?
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
A vodka distillery in Cherno and making alcohol for medical, molotovs, fuel, and personal consumption. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/173751-alcoholvodka-via-fermenting-rotten-fruit-medical-fuel-weaponized-drinking/ -
You answered your own question in a roundabout way. If you're the type of player to shoot everyone on sight you also propagate the same play style you claim to despise. Are you this cowardly and shitty? Hopefully you have a better understanding of how KoS players are created now. You need to learn lessons each time you die, and adjust your play style accordingly based on this new wisdom, accounting for circumstance and gear. You were careless and you paid for your carelessness but there are so many lessons here. You can hear player footsteps easily if you're wearing decent headphones and in a high traffic loot building you need to pay super close attention and/or have a spotter. The building you were in with the tower (the firehouse) is a major killing zone - very very dangerous area that you should only visit if you are very well armed or desperate. Axe man was more desperate than you... you also have to consider that you pulled a gun on this guy, then proceeded to increase your vulnerability by cornering yourself instead of leaving the area ASAP. You hopefully see now that your gun cannot make up for a lack of tactical thinking. You can't just pull a gun on someone and expect to make friends that way. You can't halfway mug a guy in this game, it's like halfway fucking a guy in the ass. Next time you either mug a guy properly (disarmed, bare minimum) or you make voice contact and start figuring things out. Systematic self examination will get you further than any other single thing you can do. Don't worry so much about how other people play the game... you can only control how you play.

Mosin + Prone position + Bipod deployed + Hold breath -> strong jitter after some recent patch
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to Ovomaltine's topic in General Discussion
The same thing happened to me - post patch i was getting the jerky crosshairs going on and stopped playing actually because I thought it was a glitch. Someone also suggested that I had a broken arm but I haven't had time to look into it. Keep in mind that I have not taken any damage from a player or zombie for weeks, the only thing that happened is a patch. It seems pretty messed up that there are no pain sounds and you get the "healthy" tag with a broken arm. I'm going to keep that character on ice for a few patch cycles and hope it goes away. -
Alcohol/Vodka via fermenting rotten fruit - medical, fuel, weaponized, drinking
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to Old_Crow_Whiskey's topic in Suggestions
I agree. Even simply adding alcohol/distilleries to the game would be a big step even if they left the crafting portion out. -
Alcohol/Vodka via fermenting rotten fruit - medical, fuel, weaponized, drinking
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to Old_Crow_Whiskey's topic in Suggestions
It would be interesting if they added one commercial (vodka) distillery and located it in Cherno. That would turn things up a notch. -
Thanks will look into this. I'm not sure how this could happen as I haven't been bitten or shot in a very long time... perfect health.

Has anyone noticed worse accuracy while aiming guns? Right now every time I aim, the dot starts walking all over the place as if I've just been running around... my guy is in perfect health, prone, and bipods do nothing to help this. Am I experiencing a glitch or is the unsteady aim a new game mechanic? It's very frustrating since it will be almost impossible to kill >450m if this continues.

Neutral safe zones that physically prevent combat
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
they have safe zones in the mod (right?). I think i remember hearing that they're going to implement some kind of trading system... It would be very difficult to have a trading system without a safe zone. -

I love to kill KoS players! How could I possibly hate you for helping me study the species?! -
I do this too, put ammo and mags in my shirt & vest. I expect that a patch will eventually reduce access for gear in the backpack so I'm also just playing with that assumption in mind. I'm going to try out this play style at some point but I plan to use the improvised courier pack or improvised backpack. It seems like you're making a lot of concessions since you expect to die, but wouldn't it be easier to not wear blaze orange and avoid dying in the first place? Im sure it's exciting having many player encounters in any case.

Black Tactical "Swat" like outfit.
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to Dark Session's topic in General Discussion
Other than looking intimidating, what's an all black outfit good for? You're seen plain as day in the woods or in green grass/fields. The streets are light gray. Most urban buildings are gray and tan. -
ALL sounds throughout the game are getting a full re-work from an outside team of specialists. They're on it - they've been working on it since before the alpha was released.

What is your opinion on this outfit?

Alternatives to the ballistic helmet
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to infiltrator's topic in General Discussion
I always wear the ballistic helmet - it doesn't make sense not to wear it being the only helmet that can give you an edge in a gunfight. I understand people wanting to max out their camo but it's at an obvious trade off to the protection offered by the helmet - a fair transaction. To the best of my knowledge I have never been spotted at range while wearing it and am satisfied with its level of camo though it could be better. Like everyone else I would really love to see more soviet bloc ballistic helmet options, and I expect that we will see things like: Russian Spetsnaz K6-3 bulletproof helmet: The Romanian 1973: Soviet fireman's helmet: -
I believe their priorities are right. They're working on incrementally building a strong foundation over which they will pour items and content. It's like building a house where you focus on the foundation, framing, and roof first before installing fixtures. This game is coming about in the exact opposite way that big companies like EA make games, which is by dreaming up a bunch of advanced features that are never fully implemented due to inadequate stability and testing. Then they hype the game to all hell and charge full price for for a beta that they sell you fixes for over the next year before releasing another incomplete game billed as the second coming of Christ. People need to be honest with themselves about all the shit they've put up with from crooked game developers over the years... all the money the've fed these greedy companies... before bashing the day-z developers over their alpha in progress.

Weapons penetrating walls after new balistic improvements ?
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to ladatron's topic in General Discussion
since people can walk through concrete walls I'm operating on the assumption that anyone can shoot through anything with any gun. -
you can't possibly be having fps issues with a gtx 580. I do fine all high/very high with i52500k and gtx 470 ov/oc

Server hopping has gotten worse. (actuall analysis, not a whine thread)
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to crazykage's topic in General Discussion
People server hop in low population servers because it's statistically safer - hopefully that's not news. But the 30 second timeout makes high population servers more playable, realistic, and fair. I play in high population servers and haven't noticed server hopping or people spawning in right near me. When I come across a fully looted village it's usually because of the huge gang of players that just ran by, not because of server hoppers. Server hopping is far more dangerous in a high population server, so to the extent that it bothers people to see it, just play in a high population server where you either won't notice it or where it won't matter. Server hopping at an air field in a 38/40 server is a death sentence usually since you have Kos campers essentially enforcing "fair play" through ass-hattery. It's a self feeding machine. Server hopping is partly a byproduct of KOS unjust deaths (not fixable), glitch deaths (fixable), and human greed (not fixable). Also what the OP sees as server hopping may just be people playing in non-binge time increments like 20/30/40 minute segments. I can Imagine it could take a very careful player 20 minutes to safely loot a village, get to a safe place and log out - if you only have 20 minutes to play what choice do you have? Then what are you likely going to do when you log back in, skip over your village full of loot to go charging through the forest? No you're going to loot the same village again. We have to figure there is a whole subset of non-fanatical players with actual real world things to do who play this way and don't post on forums about it. Other than forcing people into playing prescribed time slots there's nothing to be done about this. The OP said he doesn't play in high pop servers because of performance problems, which is a separate issue entirely. You either have to wait for a patch or upgrade your system, or possibly both since IDK your specs. edit: Once they add vehicles it should incentivize people to stay in the server to re-gear when they're killed by another player, this way they have a chance to get revenge. Of course people will start complaining about their rides getting jacked... -
I only KoS people like the OP who KoS. Because of people like me, KOS bandits feel justified in their mentality since there is always someone hunting and trying to kill them. It's not just his imagination, and apparently it's a consequence he's willing to accept. He likes that style of game play. Without him I wouldn't have anything to do in the current build. He wanted to gain loot by killing someone and taking theirs and he risked his life by opening fire then looting a body in an open field. It's a high risk high reward lifestyle that will inevitably lead to his demise. Don't everyone get all butthurt about it, go do something about it.
