You've gotta break a few eggs to make an omelette. In a harsh world like dayz we all do the best we can... If the best some of you can do is kos I feel sorry for you through the sights of my gun.

LOL. Typical asshat kos bandit reaction to the consequences of bad decision making and questionable gun skill. Just like irl, externalizing blame will get you nowhere. You took risks, made a series of bad decisions in a row, and proceed to blame the game. There are people like me out there who follow players and watch over certain cities and towns just aching for someone to step out of line. I've put down so many vermin like you... Ever consider that this is what happened to you when you were shooting and running around wrecklessly like a tool?!

Can a moderator...or anyone give me some advice?
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to Survivor05's topic in General Discussion
I've had decent luck, about 50/50 friendlies vs aggressive dummies. If you're well geared people tend to run fast or shoot fast so it's harder to engage if you're well set up and you happen upon someone without warning. In my experience most of the wreckless aggressive players don't speak at all or try to type to you. -
Much better off with the epi pen, and if you stick yourself with it you won't be accidentally dead. Save your slots buddy. The best thing for a near death situation is a blood bag or saline bag, then epi pen if it gets really bad.

Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to Survivor05's topic in General Discussion
Grapefruit's advice is good. Try to make contact at s time and place of your choosing. Make sure you're good with your weapons so you can back up your words with force. Anyone with a raised weapon is a threat, especially anyone who raises their weapon and keeps it up after seeing you. If you're better armed tell them to simply put their weapon away or risk death. Something like "if you want to survive, put away that Derringer". Kill immediately anyone who charges you, don't waste time with these clowns. They're taking a gamble and simply want all your gear to save some time gearing up so put them in timeout. The sawed off shotgun is a perfect up close weapon for punishing charging numbskulls. Make sure you use your mic when you see someone and avoid like the plague anyone who won't speak... They're either not serious players or are trying to figure out what weapon to kill you with. Tell them to leave or leave the area yourself. Same goes for anyone who just sounds douchey or drunk. Keep moving around if out in the open unless you have a really easily defended position. Any new friendly you encounter you should agree to respect a safe zone around each other and can trade this way buy putting items at your feet and switching spots. Get the steam names of friendlies and build a roster if you want. Edit: and if you try to hold me up I'm sorry but you're not gonna make it. It's a risky profession and you're better off initiating conversation and not making it adversarial. -

Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to blehan9390's topic in General Discussion
I agree with you Philly T. The more you have the further you fall, and tight interior hallways do not seem to foster a spirit of communication. I think it's always worth the risk to make verbal contact since I have met up with some quality hero players this way who have wanted to trade and some who even want to team up. -
I would love to see far more beach activities as the coast is most beautiful
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to john5220's topic in General Discussion
You can find nets for ghili in coastal boats apparently, so I guess do a little shopping next time you're there. There are snipers who hang out on the outskirts of larger cities on and near the coast as a detriment to peaceful activity. This is a major reason to not hang out on the coast unless you want to hunt kos snipers. It's a fairly risky proposition. -

I'm not a kos type and am willing to risk my life to know for sure whether or not someone should be dead. The presence of multiple pairs of pristine handcuffs (and no keys?) tells me you made the right decision even if you didn't know it at the time. That dude had everything, and thus had no peaceful reason to be prowling around a fire station. Firestations are a death trap anyway. Everyone who enters knows there's a good 10-20% chance of dying in that vicinity on a populated server. -
Too many guns or just silly spawning
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to PhillyT's topic in General Discussion
I agree with the OP wholeheartedly. However one thing the current dynamic creates is the odd situation where someone is threatening you with an empty gun or a gun with only one round in the chamber. It's a unique problem and I'm not aware of any games like it where bluffing can get a disadvtaged player quite far (or in over their head). -
Yea looks like I lost my old character and spawned in fresh - I noticed lots of new inventory/interaction/crafting bugs since yesterday. Pristine compass declaring a new north every 15 minutes. No major changes to loot as far as i can tell.

Most versatile weapon combination?
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to Dagwood's topic in General Discussion
I don't ever feel well armed unless I have a sawed off or .357 magnum as a secondary. Both have high shock impact for secondary weapons so connecting a small hit can have a big impact on whether or not you survive an encounter. -
Please help a shootout noob... ;-)

If you're going to shoot, stand still briefly. Running and shooting is either reckless or desperate. -
If you don't have a mic, get one and use it. People without mics can't be trusted point blank. If you've been using your mic and still getting your head split open anyway maybe you need to change what you say and how you say it. If you've been saying all nice guy things in a nice guy way, there are one of two things at work here: 1. You just naturally sound like an asshole and people are taking you out as a precaution. The 'wrong' accent or slang can have all sorts of implications in how others perceive you. 2. You sound like a wimpy weakling and people are preying on this perceived weakness.

Bandits are hilarious...? and liers?

The translation made clicking on this thread worth while. Thank you. Hopefully the OP learned a few lessons here. First one is don't play with your food. -
Do you want pooping in this game?

Who doesn't love poop? Seriously is this even a question? -
Mr. Jizz's Manifesto of Player Interaction
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to Mr Jizz's topic in General Discussion
I've had friendly and indifferent interactions at military sites, even when encountering groups of heavily armed players. Of course that is not the norm and every player needs to be especially on point in a base. Normally on the open range or in non-coastal cities I consider something like 55% of players are KOS types, the rest being some mixture of other dispositions. However in a military compound my assumption changes to 80% KOS. This has been my experience. I agree with biohaze, I keep score within. I do like your point about deciding what player type you are and sticking to it, even if it's for the duration of one life. This helps a player have fun and gives some direction to the game. I would encourage new players to try to talk to as many people as possible to get a feel for the varieties of player interactions that are possible. There's no score keeping so dying a bunch of times in a row has no measurable penalty for what that's worth. We're taking it as a given but all new players should have a mic since everyone knows you cant trust a player without a microphone. -

how to win more gunfights in forests
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to cooMaster's topic in General Discussion
The hills should not be underestimated. It's one of the most important aspects of warfare in general and this goes for day-z firefights as well. Let me illustrate the importance of high ground... think about the ideal direction by which you would engage an enemy. In a perfect situation you would be directly overhead - not only can they not see you but their head represents >50% of the visible target area. Out in the woods a hill will have to suffice but has many of the same advantages, where the head and vital organs are a large percentage of the target area. Conversely from the top of a hill engaging downhill, your head is further from the enemy than any other part of your body. Last I checked, running downhill is also faster so from high elevation you have more exits and can possibly even crest the hill to go out of sight. I've won and lost open field/woods engagements almost entirely due to elevation differences. The vast majority of my kills happened while shooting downhill and most deaths were rained down from above. Fights I was losing were won because I ran downhill or across the hill to flank and capture the high ground from the enemy. Staying stationary in the woods during a firefight will probably result in your death unless you're working in a team. If you truly believe you're better than average at pvp you should be playing in hardcore servers where only the skilled and the lucky survive. Third person view isn't as much of a help in the woods of course for a lot of reasons. -

The dirtiest tactic i have ever seen so far
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to TheHuntsMan87's topic in General Discussion
Hey man I totally get you. I'm a hero type myself with a rigid moral code. But honestly I think immature bandits and assholes make the game worth playing. Us heros would have nothing to do if not to execute the most vile and disgusting players in all of multiplayer gaming. There isn't a sweeter thing in Day-Z than penetrating the skull of a bandit who really deserved it. Even better for you, you were able to save and equip the new spawn to boot. Bonus points for you brotha... crow about your victory and be proud! There's no need to whine. The game would be boring as hell if everyone held hands and frolicked through field. Imagine the effect your actions had for that new spawn and his outlook on the game. He saw first hand how vulnerable he is to armed groups and that he was probably about to die. Then he saw the power of one determined man to persevere over evil and to spread goodwill. You probably created a new hero, and possibly even more than one if a bandit decides to give up his ways. Good luck out there & stay on the top of the food chain. -
I am sooooo tired of hearing about insanity and mental health constructs. It's not gonna happen. The only mental health aspects of this game are in the minds of the players. Butthurt about KOS? Go find and kill a KOS player. That's the only solution now and into the future of this game. You could seriously start a sub forum for all the "insanity" and "mental health" suggestion threads. <_<

The SKS needs a lot of work: It should absolutely dominate medium range encounters in the 200-300m range with the PU scope and it currently does not.Players should definitely be allowed to fill the gun with rounds without stripper clips since the mag is built in to the gun design (just like the permanently attached bayonet... oops). While we're on the subject of a wishlist, the SKS has a built in cleaning kit in the buttstock so it would nice to have that back as well. The gun has many actual real world downsides, like the fact that it's much heavier than the AK or M4 and holds less rounds.SKS metal parts (apart from the bolt) are not reflective in real life as it seems in the game. It's all "parkerized" with a matte finish.

Do you believe people who shoot on sight are terrible at DayZ?
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to GriefSlicer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
1. I shoot on sight anyone who shoots at me, shoots at others on sight, or attacks newspawns that are not attacking them 2. 3. Many KoS players are not great gunfighters in my experience. I think many of them know this and try to compensate by using massive magazine capacity M4s and setting up basic ambushes. Their inadequacies stoke their fears, causing them to KoS even more. I'm sure there are KoS players out there who play well, I just haven't seen any yet. On the flip side I have seen many mediocre KoS bandits through my gunsights, turned to hamburger before my very eyes. 4. I think they are pure douchebags who make DayZ worth playing! I would have nothing to do in the current build if I couldn't hunt the glorious vermin, the east coast server KoS bandit. 5. Yes they should be ashamed of themselves right up to the point of death, where they should become grateful to be put down by a foe superior in every way, as are me and my crew. -
The Ruger MKII Is Coming, But Whats It Like?
Old_Crow_Whiskey replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
A youtube video showing a .22 round NOT penetrating a Vietnam era steel military helmet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSIp22uaWrQ Your view that the .22 is a nuisance beyond 25 meters is true because we're talking about a pistol since no service oriented pistol has reliable range beyond 25m... now if they introduce a .22 rifle we can see how effective that round is at 200m and beyond when striking soft targets.
