Eating and Drinking is way too frequent
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to lunatik20's topic in General Discussion
I do sprint around just about everywhere I go and I go a long time without getting hungry or thirsty. Find a well, they're in just about every town, and drink until it says you're full. Find food and eat it. Eat a lot of it. Make the hunger icon disappear, then eat another can's worth of food. Good to go. -
I would question the Vanquish Rifle far more than I would the M4, which is found all around the world. Not that I'm a fan of the M4 being in the game and that's why I hope some sort of lore is set up explaining the events up to "present day" in the game to help us understand why certain things are the way they are. I know in the mod the game takes place in 2012 and as far as I can tell, this rifle didn't exist then.

Maybe I haven't paid much attention and this is slightly off topic but are western vehicles still found in Chernarus? The only reason I can imagine they were in the mod is because the object (wrecked HMMV) was already there and it was easy to do. As for Gdaddy's new topic, I don't want any guns added for the sake of being cool rare items to find. I'm a boring guy, to be honest. If I had it my way we'd have Warsaw weapons, Warsaw weapons, and a few more Warsaw weapons to keep things varied. The most powerful weapon I'd even consider would be the KSVK which is unwieldy as hell and has an inconvenient zoom for anything except long range.

Do what makes you comfortable. If they cross the line you've made, then that's their problem. If they truly need help they should be happy to oblige with keeping a distance and not taking out a melee weapon near you or ever pointing their gun at you. Always be suspicious and curious about malicious intent. I'm skeptical of people in general so that probably helps in these situations, but find out your lines and let them be known to anyone you're genuinely trying to help. I've found over time in the mod most people who actually want to play with you and/or need your help have no problem and are completely understanding, even the new guys.

"Why" was asked. "Because it's badass" was the reply. That's about all I need to know not much thought was given from BelMarduk on this. Personally I'm against things being added for badassery and cool factor. The Mosin is badass. We've already got there. I look forward to the SVD. That's enough to make me giddy. I truly await the OP's reasoning but man this community can be really staunch when it comes to weapons and gear in DayZ. These new guys might be a bit repulsed with the responses in these threads. lol

Check your controls through the main menu. Reset them, even if they look good. Also updating drivers can't hurt.

Force mic chat: skype etc.. thru dayz?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to sai (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I said the distance was a problem. " Hear the static of every crappy laptop mic from so far away..." If it works well here then awesome, but I don't expect it to, especially in a game with no set teams, where most players are out to get you, and people find exploits at every turn since we're on PC. I'm done, I've stated my points and it's just getting nitpicky. It's a circle now. It will happen or it won't. If it's good then no doubt it will stay, if it's bad, the forums will explode as they do. -
He's scum. Him and his pals felt clever but really it's just cheap. On the rare occasion I let a stranger come with me, I tell them to do as I say. I keep talking to them nonstop and if they act fishy I give them one chance before telling them to leave. You can be nice, but the line has to be drawn immediately. Once it's crossed that's their fault. Learn from your mistakes, don't become the type who just shoots a guy asking for a can of tuna.

Force mic chat: skype etc.. thru dayz?

If you say anything along the lines of "Leave direct chat always on" and nothing else, of course I'm going to assume you mean exactly what you said. -
Realism and Weapons [Balanced or Realistic?]
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to ProGamerGov's topic in General Discussion
In the mod you didn't have pin point accuracy after sprinting or running either. You had to be stationary or walking for a bit to catch your breath and calm down, otherwise you swayed like mad. If we had to take a literal second to line up our shot I wouldn't mind but I really liked how it worked in the mod. It's part of why I fell in love because a lot of it came down to player skill. I could get a Lee Enfield and feel as safe with it as if I had an m16 in most encounters. It allows weapons otherwise underestimated to be worth something to someone and nothing to someone else. -

I only used realism because you did...I don't want chat to be realistic because it can't be done right. I'm willing to have a go at it so you can see this. Worst case scenario, I'm wrong and it's splendid. That's far worse than what bad mojo has said. O_o Hell no. Hear the static of every crappy laptop mic from so far away while also ruining the game for them because of their mic...just no. That hurts DayZ more than the current system and you can't whisper at all. -
Realism and Weapons [Balanced or Realistic?]
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to ProGamerGov's topic in General Discussion
Well to be fair in ArmA your character is a soldier in pretty much everything you do. Without artificial BS I don't see how you can make someone poor with a rifle in a game. Think of it like STALKER where guns just kind of shot left and right and up and down unless you turned the difficulty all the way up. To me it felt like such garbage that my AN-94 would hit here and there for no real reason other than gameplay mechanics in the vanilla game. -
I quite like this! Even if they're not camo, a dull color poncho would be great to have on a rainy day in the woods of Chernarus. Keeps you nice and dry from head to toe without switching your shirt for a raincoat. Should be a bit rare, so as not to make raincoats entirely useless, but I'd be a fan.

Realism and Weapons [Balanced or Realistic?]

While I'm tired of people saying "Well this just isn't realistic," I would be disappointed with anything less than aiming for weapons to be as realistic as possible. -

Diggydug (DayZ) replied to sai (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
It's not "realistic" to hear some guy's mom yelling at him in a game, and we'd get more of that than we would the optimal chatter, I'm sure. But as I said, I'm willing to try it if Rocket's willing to do it. If anything I believe it will prove this is a bust. -
Replace how common the M4 is with shotguns and I'll be pleased. I'd like if people ran around with shotguns and we do have shells already in the game, but as the game is right now I expect people to just go hop for M4s as they already do once they realize shotguns are only good when things are uncomfortably close as it is.

"Steam games" is the same as saying, "games" pretty much. You're complaining you can't play a game being developed in 2013 when Steam has games going back years. If DayZ is all you have, then you have nothing to lose anyway as far as I'm aware but if not, I don't want you getting in trouble over a game. In the future, if you're not entirely sure how your PC will handle a game, go on its forums or in the Steam community and ask.

Oh I expect them, I just don't expect anyone to actually use them in combat.

Force mic chat: skype etc.. thru dayz?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to sai (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
1) Push-to-Talk essentially? Can games mute your mic? I'm admittedly ignorant when it comes to that. Can you name a game that does? 2) People would still do this. A lot of people play games with friends, myself included, and I don't want to talk to them while also telling everyone else within earshot in the game. Likewise I don't want to hear other people's silliness with their friends. 4)So a new "rule" of DayZ would be you must talk over direct when talking over Teamspeak? Sounds like something that wouldn't gain much popular support. ________ I'd be willing to give it a shot, this is Alpha, I'm here for crappy updates and good updates, but I feel this is a waste of development time and would hurt the game more than anything. If it's not popular, fewer people play, fewer servers are managed...it's just downhill. At this rate with the stubbornness on both ends, I say we just try it if it's as easy as OP claims and seeing how it goes. -
Is it just DayZ or do any other games have the problem? I'm no expert but I'd just try other things and if all else failed "Verify game cache files" for Steam and in the end reinstall it if I had to. If you have a friend with DayZ or a computer that can run it, bring your keyboard and use it on their computer. I don't know just a suggestion.

Force mic chat: skype etc.. thru dayz?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to sai (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
This is to the point where it's ridiculously impractical. 1) Not everyone can mute their mic at the press of a button 2) If that's what you have in mind then what do you think is wrong with the current system? No audio until we want to talk... 3) Those with horrible mics likely can't help but keep it on, so the ones who would be a major problem would persist. 4) The system would be completely reworked for something that people would just work around. You end up changing so much and when people are annoyed or get made fun of all the time for their shit microphones, they find a way to get around it, which has already been shown would be simple enough. This isn't practical at all, nor immersive. Why do you want it? -
That entire concept is something I don't like. I'm all for rare items, but practical rare items like NVGs and proper body armor or something, not an item that's rare just for a cool factor. That's how I've always been and I've hated when games had that, so I'm admittedly biased there.

Diggydug (DayZ) replied to sai (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I'm saying that a lot of people have horrible mics and it's a pain in the ass trying to talk to them through direct now. Forcing it always on would just be more of a headache than it's worth. A lot of people don't use headphones either for some reason, so I guess you get double the immersion of hearing yourself and gunshots twice. A couple of steps? It's 80m in ArmA 2 IIRC and I don't think it's any different here. And you say "mute your mic until you want to speak"....That's EXACTLY what we already have. -
Read what you agreed to. Your "right" can be revoked at any moment. This applies to any Steam game really. http://store.steampowered.com/subscriber_agreement/
