Third person view removal from SA discussion
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to lev's topic in General Discussion
Balance - Really? I bet if I ask someone in game if third person ruins the game for them they want say so. It's got advantages over someone strictly using first person, sure, but only then. The tactics employed by third person are part of the game at this point. Not that I condone them or like them, but they are. I never said first person gives an advantage. What? Let me just restate my thoughts and end with a question. I say let's see how the "hardcore" servers handle. Give people a choice to experience it or not. Why should everyone be forced to play the way you deem appropriate when we can have the option and theoretically satisfy both parties? -

Stop with the realism. People only argue realism when it's convenient. ___________ I agree custom servers like that hurt the mod. I feel that it was more because many people in DayZ were flatout new to ArmA in general and those types of servers were them experiencing what ArmA is capable of. Too lazy to look into other game modes because DayZ commander has it all right there. However that's not really a valid comparison. First person only servers would be the exact same except you can't use third person. -
How would this affect third person? It'd be nice if it restricted it there as well but it'd also be awkward the way I'm seeing it. O_o I like the way it was done in Misery for STALKER: Call of Pripyat, but that's a first person only game. If this happens do I get to hear my breathing inside of a gas mask too?

Features heavily advertised being removed? Nice idea. "Fuck 'em" is exactly the mentality I see coming from your side. Works both ways though, right? Everyone who wants first person only, fuck 'em. Yeah, but the hardcore group can migrate to the "hardcore" servers and then no one will do that. It will be voluntary...let's do choices first, see how it goes. And use feedback from there. Many people are new to DayZ and likely never played ArmA. They don't know what being restricted to first person is like in this type of game. Give them a chance to see before forcing it on them. -

The path of least resistance, or what they enjoy more? It's alpha, why don't we try it first and see how it goes before forcing first person on everyone? You're forcing a completely different playstyle on what you deem the proper way to play regardless of what everyone else says. The way I see it, many vouching for mandatory first person for the entire game are basically saying, "Yeah everyone who doesn't like it be damned, third person is bad for the game." -

I agree, but it's not the same. This is bigger. There's more on the line. I think he'll handle it well though. A bigger problem though is advertising. Up to this point, and even as it sells now, everyone buying expects third person. Unless they made it a point to say, "Yo we got rid of that, it's all first person now," then people would be understandably mad. To then respond to their woes with "Alpha" would just be insulting. Now answer me this. What's wrong with the future "hardcore hive" or whatever it's to be called, where it will be first person only for everyone on it? Why can't that exist while having the public hive with third person as well? -

What if they cater to both sides by having different servers on on a different database so those who'd prefer everyone is in first person can enjoy just that? What if they did that??? WHAT IF THEY DID THIS??????? Man that'd be crazy huh? I'll just add that I look forward to such a thing, should it ever exist. Should it ever be confirmed to ever exist... -

That was a mod. This is its own game. He probably actually cares if DayZ sales well. -
Realistic, like the zombies, right? The zombies (who aren't truly zombies) are fiction. It could very well be that the infection has a high mortality rate which is 100% on kids. And yes people are more prone to be accepting of killing adults than children. That's a normal thing.
-
I don't agree with a set clock for every server on the public hive but I do agree custom servers should be separate. Public hive should be uniform.
-
Why would you want this? I just like to think whatever infection this is, is fatal to kids.
-
You say that now... So slow. _______ As for boats, fishing boats would be nice. Small personal boats as well.
-
Alpha. Definitely something that should be fixed and I'm sure will be. I don't use text much so I didn't even know about this. I'll take your word. Be sure to report it.

Or see how popular first person only servers are first. First person should be the least of BIS's worries when it comes to testing right now. I agree that people should stop trying to force this and that on everyone...your point? It's not like any of those things have garnered a lot of support as far as I've seen anyway. You're going down the same road. -

While I won't handicap myself by using first person currently, I do look forward to the servers that only have first person. -

Forcing literally hundreds of thousands of players to play what you deem is the "right way" to make it a better experience could not possibly go over well. Wouldn't you rather playing on a server with people who agree first person is better than reading a forum full of, "What the fuck rocket?!" "What happened to third person???". To be blunt, this simply isn't going to happen. If Rocket wanted it to be first person only, it would be. Even in his streams he used third person. -

Because people like it? It's still a game. First person servers will come. I don't see what there is to discuss. -
Why do people think there would be more civilian weapons than military?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to captainvette2112's topic in General Discussion
I won't deny the prominence of the AK, but I feel you're exaggerating how much a place like Chernarus would have. It does matter. Russia would have an ample amount of AKs and AK parts. Chernarus is a post-soviet country that, to me, looks like it has financial issues. Their largest military base has maybe enough space to hold 100 guys. That's being generous. I doubt AKs would be left behind, just like every cupboard in a house doesn't have food for us all to eat and clothes aren't as abundant as you'd expect either. People evidently got out, took some crap with them, and we're living off the scraps. EDIT: Let me clarify. I'm not against AKs being in the game, in fact I want them and expect them to be. But for them to be more prominent than civilian weapons, legal or illegal? I highly doubt that. -

Chernarus=/=Russia Chernarus military=/=Russian military Judging by the buildings, tech, and infrastructure, I'd wager Chernarus is poor enough as it is and doesn't have a large fighting force. -

Diggydug (DayZ) replied to captainvette2112's topic in General Discussion
The topic isn't the current state of weapons, it's for the future and discussing the quantity of certain types of weapons and what those weapons are. You'd rather every thread be bombarded with "Alpha" replies? Good to know. -

Diggydug (DayZ) replied to captainvette2112's topic in General Discussion
Those 3 "installations" are crap compared to real military bases. I've always thought they were more research than anything but that's just my personal fiction to explain their size and lack of facilities. I'd expect with all the houses, barns, and deer stands we'd have civilian weapons for hunting more than we would military weapons. That's my thinking behind it all. EDIT: Balota seems very civilian-ish to me, as well...I don't count that and wish it didn't have military loot except for the tents. -
How will flying work? Simulator or Arcade?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to DayzForumer's topic in General Discussion
I'm with SalamanderAnder on having helis, should they be in the game, something you have to sit down and learn. Plus it means I can practice my DayZ skills in ToH. :D But really I want it because a pilot should be valuable. It shouldn't be whoever hops in first gets to pilot, it should be whoever knows how to start it, get it off the ground, and power it down. Someone who knows what to look for among all those gauges to make sure it's all going well. Flying shouldn't be the only skill you can learn for DayZ, but this is about flying so it's all I'll bother brainstorming and agreeing with. Many games go about having different classes to feign specialty. In real life certain people are better at things than others due to what they know and have practiced. This forces us to cooperate on some level. Might be the same would happen here? I can hope. If they have books ingame for things, should they be more complex, I'd love that. Doubt many would sit down ingame and read the books, but for those who do it would be a treat. Either way everyone who wants to do it right would have to take the time to learn it, and many people don't even take the 10 seconds to learn how a PSO scope works so I don't expect most players to read a guide and practice it for DayZ just to fly a rare piece of machinery that's a pain in the ass to fix and hide. -
I'd like some awful soviet bloc cars to putter around in. I hope vehicle maintenance is a thing as well. Certain vehicles require more maintenance, yada yada. I'd like to start with what we're familiar with. UAZ, GAZ, Skada (?) and the Ural. Go from there. Nothing wrong with more modern vehicles though suitable to the setting. Nothing like ArmA 3 though, please, except for functional mirrors. I'd also like to see a return of the AN-2 plane, of all things. I feel there's not much popular support for it though since it's not good for anything but checking things out.

DayZ is FailZ (Lacklustre Infected comment)
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to Spidey (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I agree the hate in this thread is ridiculous. Poor OP got hit hard but that doesn't make the main point any better. He complains about zombies when they have already been acknowledged by Rocket. Wait until the changes come and THEN give feedback. It's like a mechanic saying, "That'll patch 'er up for now and it'll drive, but bring it back in about a week or two and we'll have it good as new," only to have the customer complain that it's not "good as new" two days later. People complain about the lack of guns, as if that's going to make more guns appear. People complain about the northern wastes, as if that's going to add cities to it. People complain about server hoppers, as if that's going to patch them away. It's been acknowledged, let the devs change something before complaining further, or let more time pass before complaining it's taking them too long.
