    As for the popular "casualized" DayZ servers, they're a non-issue because there are still populated servers that don't have that. Yet you simply can not find a populated first person server at all. It's not a proper comparison, so stop using it. That alone shows that plenty of people don't just go the easiest route, some people enjoy vanilla DayZ over 500 cars and 30 helis, that's plain to see. Even with first person servers in both the mod and the SA it seems people don't stick around and I'm sure they have their reasons. As I've said before, I know two guys personally who get nauseous with ArmA first person as it is. How this thread can keep going is beyond me. _______________ I'm all for limiting what you can see even while in third person. People seem to support making it so you can't use the third person exploits while still being third person. Let's try that instead. If your character can't see someone, then you can't see them. I think most people like that. Is that a serious statement?

    I agree, but it's expected. Anything that gets popular has its forums filled with more garbage than before. More people=more good and bad. I've just stopped checking in lately since it's the same stuff over and over. Also, Xequinox90 is a blatant troll, stop feeding him. That's part of why these people stick around, people take them seriously and they sit there laughing at how easy people get trolled here.

  4. Yeah but it's not part of STALKER. I don't think any amount of lore in the DayZ universe can explain it. :P And in STALKER it only applies to anomalies IIRC. ________ I imagine they'll stay as they are for a long time and time between restarts will increase later on. I don't see the issue though, 4 hours is a good time. It's not like you lose your gear and have to start over.

    You don't have a controller plugged in do you? Sometimes if you do it will render the keyboard useless in some games.

    I wasn't saying it's not allowed but the discussion is pointless as far as I can tell. They're going through with first person servers on a separate hive regardless of this thread. Let's see how it goes.

I don't mind standing still to use it properly but cupping it after putting something else up and taking it out then having to focus on the compass and strain to read it is just too much of a hassle for it to be worth it for me. If they made it just more convenient to take out and easier to read then that'd be nice. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, I've only used it twice before deciding it wasn't worth it.

    The difference is they pretty much let people play it with what they had. They were up front that is VERY early Alpha at least. WarZ claimed to exist for some time prior to its release and then the devs tried to keep the charade going. In the last build it wasn't all that great, but a new build just came out so it might be worth looking into again if you're stalking it. Hunting is soon to be added I believe.

    Is this specifically about TDL or what? I expect it to be a great game but it's not the same as DayZ at all except for scavenging. I'm waiting on it to get to a playable state for me and haven't tried the most recent update.
  12. Agreed. It's one thing I just avoid using right now because of how absurd it is that I have to put everything else up, take out the compass, and struggle to get a proper reading with it. In the real world I tie somewhere convenient and have a good reading in a matter of seconds. ArmA's way of doing it was fine. I was surprised we didn't have to physically look at a map while in first person after dealing with the compass. They should be in the same vein.

    I don't even know if there's charts for this, you get used to them if you eyeball people at various distances enough.

    Those are from ArmA 2 as far as I know. I've thought of them as placeholders, considering females use them too if I'm not mistaken, but I agree I'd rather it just be grunts and moans.

    You're missing my point and just being a dick now. My point, regarding the fiction, is that WE DO NOT KNOW the lore regarding this infection or even the setting, truly. I said that I, Diggydug, like to think that the infection has a high mortality rate and it's 100% on kids. That is my personal thinking behind it...Rocket's the one who knows more than anyone how the infection works. We know nothing. Maybe I'm right. Maybe I'm wrong. Kids may be upcoming, it all depends on the fiction behind it. This is Rocket's iteration of his own "zombie", not yours, not mine, but his. He can make it like I currently imagine it, or he can make it like you imagine it. We'll see...Gah so needlessly hostile.

    I know the title of the game...but the "zombies" actually are infected like 28 Days Later. I thought that was obvious. DayZ started as a mod where Rocket didn't have a clue it would explode like it did. The name is catchy and "zombie" is used quite liberally these days. I'm too lazy at the moment to grab a source but it's pretty obvious in their behavior and how they die from a shot to the gut about as well as we do. My point regarding zombies being fiction, is that fiction is dictated by its creator. Tolkien decides how the elves in his universe look and what their culture is like. Bethesda does the same for their universe. Both are called "elves" but they're quite different. The same way Rocket can say "zeds" all he wants, but that doesn't mean they're zombies as defined by typical zombie lore. A fan of zombie lore doesn't consider those in 28 Days Later actually zombies but they may well call them that for the sake of simplicity when talking about the movie. Maybe the infection doesn't kill kids. Rocket has to set up how this infection works before we can say for certain. I'm providing a "realistic" explanation for a lack of kids in the game. Now chill out.

    Now? Good luck, you'll find very few, if any, who go along with whatever you're going with. Later? Perhaps, but I doubt it. I don't know of many RP servers for the mod even where it's definitely do-able. If you want to RP DayZ I recommend DayZRP.

    Sounds like you should have done a bit of research, OP. Sadly the popular youtube videos surrounding DayZ don't paint the true colors of what we have, but it is alpha, it is buggy, it does have exploits aplenty and it will improve. Just wait it out, no harm. It's riding on the hype train currently, but a lot of people will leave, as with every game that goes on the hype train. _______________ You could get ArmA 2 while it's on sale (Combined Operations or Complete Collection for DayZ) and play the mod, which is far more stable. Surprisingly a lot of new people and plenty of people that help them over sidechat. Even if you end up not liking DayZ Mod all too much you have ArmA 2 and mods of DayZ to explore. Might be, though, that DayZ just isn't your thing.

    Yeah except the game is completely advertised in third person. I mean sure technically it'd be okay, but would it be "right"? It still works both ways. As for me and my view on third person, I think I've already shown my interest in the future "hardcore" servers multiple times. I want them, but I don't want it to be forced because I know people will just stop playing. There's no new points to bring up...there never have been. This topic is as old as DayZ. The reality is, third person is going to stay. First person servers on their own hive will come. People will choose what they prefer.

    Why would it? It's the same reason people don't play on first person servers. Many people who played DayZ never played ArmA. Arguably most of them, though I have nothing to back that up. ArmA's first person, especially ArmA 2's, is clunky, unusual, and for some even nauseating. Two people I know personally legitimately can't handle it even with reduced headbobbing and no blur. The first person aspect does not appeal to as many people as third person does. Popular ArmA servers typically allow both. Is it just so happens that there's a correlation there? Nope. Everyone who played the mod saw it too. First person servers weren't even close to as popular as those that allowed both. Even with all the vehicle servers you still have popular vanilla servers and other mods that have popular versions of themselves without 500 vehicles and 50 helis. If the correlation shows anything it's that people who play DayZ, many being new to ArmA in general, just don't like using ArmA's first person. I shouldn't have to say all of that, you know it as well as I and everyone else does. You already said it. "Fuck 'em". You know, you just don't care.
