Actually, I'm not sure how much flares would help. I could be wrong, as I rarely use them anyway, but I threw a couple down at Devil's Castle for fun and one zombie was entertained, the others ignored the flares entirely. That's a single experience I've had though and it could be unusual, but before it did seem like they just couldn't get enough of the flares and would gather around it.

With this new Choose Spawn feature, Dayz Turned into CoD
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to TheWizard14's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I haven't played with this enabled yet, so I'll check that out tonight, but I don't see it ruining everything. Also, a bit irrelevant, but even with this disabled you can potentially spawn in Berezino now, right? -

In a sense, though, weren't people already doing this by suicide? -
How to make a Huey unflyable... srsly, how?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to FuckNut's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you ask me, any heli is easy to fly without the tail rotor (VRotor) as long as you have the space to get it up. If I were to remove a part with the intent to keep it grounded, it'd be the engine and main rotor. Engine because without that it won't go, and the main rotor because it's a pain for someone else to find. That's only if I intend on going back to it. If I just wanted to keep it grounded permanently without wasting ammo/time on it, I'd remove fuel parts and leave it running. Not sure if they leak with the parts gone but it's significantly less efficient I know. -
What good, exactly, did they do? You're saying finding them was a buzz, but how about their uses in the game? Most people in DayZ, from my experience, are pretty bad shots, but throw .50 cal weapons in their hands and it doesn't matter as they can just hope to hit your hand and you're out for the count...from over 1km away. That's not sniping, if you ask me, that's just being a dick. Even the DMR and M40A3 are pretty crazy for this type of environment if you ask me, but definitely survivable unless they actually know what they're doing.

Played it some yesterday and while it has a lot of great things, it of course has some issues. Though some of them could be my mind screwing with me. Zombies - The lack of a hit animation sometimes it's both disorienting and annoying. I may rush by a zombie to get out of a tight squeeze, only to notice I'm bleeding about 100 meters later. I'm just magically hit sometimes, particularly when I'm taking them out with a hatchet, and it's quite annoying to know they hit me sometimes, no animation, while I'm going through the hatchet animation. Their respawn rate also seems ridiculous, or I'm missing something. I was at a heli crash, working with the annoying, seemingly random at times, aggro, and decided I'd kill them all, and so I began taking them out. It seemed like they truly never stopped coming after I had killed at least 15 nonstop. The same happened when I was in a barn taking them out with a hatchet, they just kept coming... Also, at times, they just decided to disappear. I was in a dire situation at one point, about to be finished off by a zombie...and then boom they're all gone. My friend takes them with him when he logs off too, it's odd. Loot - Didn't check all loot places, but I like the change in loot. Maybe too much food and other consumables lying about, but that's better than not enough, especially when alone. Also, there's an easy way to dupe any item as well that I'm sure you're aware of by now. My friend and I managed to dupe quite a few things on accident even.

So what are you expecting if not KoS?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to bfisher's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
That's silly reasoning. If that were the case, civilization wouldn't be a thing because apparently humans love to just kill each other above all else. _______ But I agree to an extent on what I think you're trying to say. What do you expect to happen? 1) It's a game 2) It's a game on the internet 3) It's a popular game That's a combination for having a lot of players who are just jerks and are used to games where you're significantly more restrained with a goal of KILL KILL KILL. So KoS is just going to happen in most forms of DayZ, especially with the circular reasoning of "He might kill me so I must kill him!" being so prevalent. I don't know what people expect either, the best they can do is be friendly themselves, or at least not KoS, and try to encourage others to do the same with them. -
I check the gear of every body I come across unless I'm along the coast near or in a hotspot like Elektro. Rarely do I kill someone because they have something I want though, it's generally because I deem them a threat or they're a dick.

Worst bandits you have ever seen?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to harley001's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The worst "bandits" I ever experience are generally on the really casual servers I go to mess around on. It seems like no one is ever a good shot on those. One of the worst I've seen, however, was on US 3480, when my pals and I had fixed up a bus and were stopping by the factory near Solinichniy for some parts and a guy on the roof decided to unload his M4 popping two tires. At this point we thought this guy knew what he was doing but no one was hurt, only two tires popped and the shots stopped. I went to the roof to get the guy and he was gone. My friend was looking for parts in the building when he heard flies and it turns out, the guy had fallen off the roof. He had one job! _________ Another instance was my friend and myself going to check out a heli crash and we had a dirtbike, as soon as I stop to get off, we get shot at by an M24 and my friend was hit. I ran to the trees and figured I'd wait it out. Eventually I see the guy circling around trying to get the jump on me, wielding a revolver now. I lose sight of him, I'm prone in a couple of trees. I hear something immediately behind me, get shot, turn around, and unload an m16 into the guy. I was baffled how a guy with a revolver, who had every chance to get a headshot at point-blank, missed my head, and only shot once... -
Your Shoot On Sight Threshold?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to Taggert1313's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
if they are acting weird? Generally. if they don't seem trustworthy? Yes. if they have good gear? Depends if they won't stop following you? Yes if they won't respond to you? Yes if they took something out of your bag? Yes ___________ If, for any reason, I think you're a potential threat to me then I will gladly shoot you. If you have good intentions and heed warnings, you have nothing to worry about. Anyone out for blood will cross a line pretty early on. I give a fair warning before I kill someone that doesn't seem to be out to get me specifically though. At least on vanilla. I should probably add a few exceptions though. If you are equipped with a ghillie suit, a DMR or other high-end weapon in a populated place, appear to be camping, or have a bandit skin, I will shoot to kill. I don't trust people like that. -
Is it just me or does nobody really play "Vanilla" DayZ anymore?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to indalcecio's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I can vouch for US 3480, it's what me and my friends generally play on when we play vanilla and during the day (for the server) it's generally well populated. -
I'm a boring person but if I'm playing alone and have some binoculars or a rifle with a scope I like to just watch places go to hell. If I'm alone I generally work to get a vehicle for when my friends get on, if it's on a survival server. Otherwise I'm generally watching and shooting people who I think deserve to be shot. I find killing on sight to be dull. It's what you enjoy that matters.

I tried this with a couple of friends a month or so ago and enjoyed it all until we had to start trying to meet up and dealing with the zombies along the way. When there are no buildings around it was just a chore to have to constantly run through the woods with zombies in tow. Perhaps we just didn't handle the situation well but one of us would get hit, we'd need to stop and bandage but were unable. Zombies would be shot, only for more to come. It was frustrating, and while vanilla zombies are more of a nuisance than anything, I felt DayZero just made them even more of a chore. When I asked what others thought on the matter I was basically told to just leave then. That and the donator stuff really irks me. _________________ I did really enjoy the hospital and the other new enterable structures, as well as the performance boost coupled with better textures, but gameplay-wise I can't be bothered with that. I'll stick to Vanilla.

It's not like Rocket had any idea it'd become so popular. It's catchy and simple. I agree the "Zed" in DayZ aren't zombies and should be considered "infected" but I'm not going to fuss about it and the name should stay as is just for familiarity's sake.

1.7.* Infection WIP Update
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to r4z0r49's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I look forward to changes in this. More than once have I been doing so well, only to be in a place like Lapatino and round a corner only to meet an infectious Hyneman. It seems no matter how careful I am, it's the one hit that does get me, in the worst of circumstances, that ruins it all. I was under the impression that we were immune to the virus that took out the Chernarus population, but I could be wrong, and perhaps that's not what is infecting me when I get hit, as the zombies aren't very sanitary, but last I checked I have ample time in real life to clean a wound before I actually succumb to any form of sickness. If it is a virus that is infecting us, how is it that antibiotics are taking care of that as well? With the "viral zombies" out there, I'm under the impression that it's a virus infecting us that we cure with antibiotics. Vanilla is my preferred way to play DayZ, but the infection rate makes it downright frustrating. _________________ Just a scenario of how this is more of a chore than an interesting gameplay element. My friends and I will be at Devil's Castle after a long run from the coast. We've avoided people, killed a dirty bandit, and had laughs along the way. We're careful entering and find a few useful things lying around and we take them. As we leave to head to NWAF one of us is hit, and that single hit immediately changes everything and spells doom for he who was infected. Only a couple of times have I managed to find antibiotics where they should be. Generally I just say "Fuck it" and kill myself instead of wasting time, or I make a mad dash to the coast and die where I can easily obtain my gear. Maybe I'm late to the party but I felt I'd say what I thought still. -
Today shows every sign of being a great day. My goodness it just keeps getting better!

I don't like the ideas you've presented at all. People LOVE the freedom and people LOVE the idea behind other players being the "bad guys", but people are annoyed that most players are doing the same thing. Sniping and killing for giggles. It is a fixable problem without adding different server types (or gamemodes basically).

I don't get all the complain about this game on the forum ?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to iPewPewU's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I disagree with your entire view on the military weapons in this game how it's realistic, or the idea of military squads roaming around somehow making more military weapons. ________ I think of it like STALKER and Fallout, most weapons won't be high tier military weapons, but easy to maintain simple weapons that perform their duties admirably. ;) Sadly the game allows for there to be infinite military weapons and people are used to those in games, but in reality, how many of us can maintain a military rifle and stamp out ammo for these rifles like you think we can? These aren't 18th century rifles, the bullets have to be much more precise, so ammo should be very, very scarce to where squads should have to go over a quick discussion of expending a bullet on a poor soul for his beans and if it's even worth it. Food can be made much easier than ammo, and if farming was done right (is it ever?) then that'd be more realistic than stamping out ammo for assault rifles and sniper rifles. ____ Most weapons should be pretty boring, normal weapons and military weapons should be rare with rare ammo as well. That's my opinion, and I've thoroughly enjoyed that feeling of scarcity in the Misery Mod for Call of Pripyat. -
Private servers prove that the average players don't know shit about gameplay
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to Evilsausage's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
These players are probably not here for the DayZ experience if that's what they're into, but DayZ is what it is because people do love a challenge. With time the DayZ challenge has worn away so it's kinda lose/lose. Either way, I think the SA will be much more survival oriented with longevity in mind, so rest easy for now. -
I'm not trying to be rude by saying it'd probably be received better if it was on a server where PvP goes down, just because those are more popular. I'd be all up in yo bizz tbh but I don't play DayZ, I'm just a lurker who wishes he could. Hook me up with a better ISP and I'll stalk you all day big boi.
-
I feel this would garner more attention if it were on a PvP server. I'd imagine a guy with the handle, "Agent C" could take care of a dirty bandit with his bare hands if he had to.

Hopes for a darker future

But why would a living human rot and how does rotting not impede someone? -
Hopes for a darker future
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to Ziliphade's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There are no graves to come out of...that's an entirely different fiction, and to fans of zombie lore and fiction, it's a big deal in a zombie game on what the zombies truly are and why they're that. -
Hopes for a darker future
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to Ziliphade's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Shrapnell, the point being made is they're NOT zombies, they're infected people. The player character, from what I know, is part of the minority immune to the virus. Those unfortunate souls are still human and require their body to work to some extent, but they're not going to wince at pain and retreat... People initially came for the "realism" this offered compared to other zombie games, ye? That and the freedom... Well stick to what's worked...if the virus is to be realistic, which I believe Rocket wants, then they can't be rotting and still running. -

Diggydug (DayZ) replied to Ziliphade's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You're wanting a lot of out of a mod that already delivers quite a bit, but I'm sure the SA will meet some of your wants, but not all of them.
