    Sniper Rifles

Except that tank made no sense. The tank driver just took off with it when SHTF yet they have shells for it and tools to maintain it...right... If you want to use The Walking Dead as your source of common sense you're gonna have a bad time. __________ @AgentRaptor From a gameplay perspective, unless game mechanics are changed substantially, it's a bad move. From a realism perspective, there's not a whole lot of those rifles to go around in the first place, that you'd find them in the barracks of an airfield in crappy Chernarus makes it just seem silly. And all of those examples of playstyles...well that'd make sense if a decent fraction of the players did that and you're saying you want to encourage less of that by adding anti-material rifles? That makes sense. The problem is, these high powered rifles make the bandit KoS lifestyle easier and every other playstyle more difficult. My idea of fun isn't worrying that a guy can spam his rifle until he finally grazes my thigh and I'm instantly dead. They should have to work for their distant kill, not have it made easier for them. I'm not against bandits and I don't fret that people KoS but I don't understand making that side of the game easier for no reason other than to have swag rifles for those who don't want to aim properly.

    Do you ever server hop?

Never. I don't play to gear up and PvP and enjoy having to scavenge for supplies so I have no need. That so many people do server hop just to get geared up quick is one reason I've not played for almost two weeks.

    Do you combat log?

I'll only combat log if someone is cheating to get the other hand, such as ghosting. Other than that I'm in it for better or worse. It gets tense that way, not knowing just how things will play out. Plus I'm big on the golden rule and get pissed when people combat log on me.

    Bought Again Still Banned...

Wouldn't getting a Steam redeem code for a game you already have be the same as buying the game again? That's not going to get you unbanned, Steam won't issue a separate CD key for a game already on your profile. You need a non-steam version.

    Sick after antibiotics - help

I've seen a couple of people say that certain things give you a "sick" status when they're actually doing their job. Give it a bit and see if it goes away.

What happened to 10 -- 15buck$ alpha pricing?

I'm simply saying it's not as convenient to cheat in DayZ as it is in ArmA. Obviously if you really want then you're going to do it, it's just not as simple as it was for ArmA 2.

    Sniper Rifles

How about we wait and see just how vehicles work before deciding that anti-material rifles are needed to stop them. Also can you give a source for what you just said?

What happened to 10 -- 15buck$ alpha pricing?

You have to make a new account each time just for DayZ though. I never said you couldn't just get another key, I said you can't use it on the same account, where with the mod (or ArmA 2) it's as simple as just using another key as long as it's not tied to your Steam Account. It's a bit more of a hassle. I'm sure people will do it, but if you get banned three times you have to make two new Steam accounts just for DayZ. It's going to get to a point where it's not worth the hassle.

    Sniper Rifles

I think everyone who opposes anti-material rifles being in the SA, namely the AS50 and M107, don't find them fun.
  10. Diggydug (DayZ)

What happened to 10 -- 15buck$ alpha pricing?

Yeah, but that requires another Steam account and DayZ is only on Steam so it's not the same as ArmA and its CD keys that people buy for cheap. You can't just put in another key for a game you already own to start fresh, not on Steam.

Ultra realism Vs Balanced game design

You seem to think I'm against realism entirely and want a gamey experience, for lack of a better term. I trust Rocket has a picture and intends on experimenting with many things before settling on what he feels is "right". I don't want it toned down but I'm aware there's a limit. As phlOgistOn pointed out people were waving the first person flag like crazy, even though first person servers have been confirmed basically from the start. Those servers are nigh desolate. People say they want needlessly hardcore but once it shows up are they there to experience it?

What happened to 10 -- 15buck$ alpha pricing?

DayZ is only on Steam now, I'm no expert but that means it's not being handled like ArmA where they just sell CD keys. Even then, it would still require another Steam account after each ban.

Ultra realism Vs Balanced game design

How can you argue for realism and then be okay with people killing themselves when a tiny thing goes wrong? Not the same. Blood is a healing potion, basically and the blood type thing, as far as I can see, is just so they're not as easy to use as in the mod. Doing a blood transfusion would probably cause those involved to be unfit for doing anything but chilling for awhile as well. Sounds like a party, donate blood, eat some beans and relax for a day and take it easy the next. I'm aware that there will be unrealistic aspects, that's why I don't want them to try and make everything needlessly realistic. No matter how hard you try or dream, it's still a game once it boils down to it and games have to be entertaining. Try sprinting through the thick of the woods fully geared toting a rifle? Chances are you'll trip over something. That's realistic, and needlessly so. I suppose people could walk everywhere because that's realistic and safe. Realistically people wouldn't be jogging most of the time, but walking. Must be so annoying being able to do the unnatural. Let me reiterate my main point. Realism in many aspects, but there's a fine line. That line is different to everyone, but there would be a point where it just becomes ridiculous. I don't play a game to make sure my shoes are tired and piss on trees.

Ultra realism Vs Balanced game design

You missed my point. I'm not saying to toss the idea of realism out the window, but aiming for every aspect to be as realistic as possible is going to create one of the most boring games ever. Currently breaking a leg is a chore, and I don't mind it, but if it were realistic EVERYONE would literally just suicide and regain their gear. People would do the same thing when limping with blisters. And cars would be a total waste if you had to find the exact tire size and roll it a few miles to get it on the car in the first place. Shoe size shouldn't even be considered, but realistically people have different shapes of feet. Basically there are some things that need to be unrealistic for the sake of the game being playable. On the other side, some things need to be realistic for the game to be enjoyable and difficult. Aiming for everything to be as realistic as possible is just going down a bad road. I want realism, I've already said this, but not unnecessary realism. You can still get your ass handed to you without it trying to simulate reality down to the blisters on your feet. This isn't a simulator. No other game gives the experience DayZ does but none even try to aim for even a sliver of realism as far as I can tell. Having certain things realistic while others not isn't going to kill the game. _______ If it weren't a waste of dev time I'd like it if they could just magically make the game as realistic as so many people claim to want it. They spawn in, run through the woods, trip on a root. They have a sprained ankle and no where to go. Do these same people arguing for realism in all things die to respawn or struggle to get help and then wait a few days until they're good to walk normally again? It's pretty obvious.

Ultra realism Vs Balanced game design

I think he means how the same people tend to go around shooting ideas down in the name of "realism" and basically saying it should never exist in any form and refuse to look at anything but realism. I don't agree with everything being optional myself, but with certain things, like first person, you can have them restricted on servers, and I think that's what he means there. So first person players can play on servers knowing that everyone else on that server is also in first person. Everyone has their own idea of what the perfect DayZ is and many want everyone to play their perfect DayZ and ignore what other's believe to be the best DayZ.

Ultra realism Vs Balanced game design

If we want to argue realism, it's not all that hard to break an ankle if your foot gets caught on those barn steps as you fall. Or when vehicles are added and you accidentally hit a tree. Compound fracture, bleeding out, can't walk, barely crawl, in shock and no doubt going to have an infection if you don't seek medical treatment. If you do get all the proper treatment, it'll be over a month before you can walk. Two minimum before it's safe to run. That's without the extra weight of gear to survive these conditions. Suddenly realism is a chore, just like in the real world. You can't properly simulate the pain of that kind of injury even. In the game people will just keep crawling with that compound fracture, in the real world once the pain hits you're probably going to yell for help instead of trying to crawl to some hospital. Which hits yet another issue. People do not behave realistically and you will never change that. Someone can yell for help, and even if yelling worked realistically someone would walk up, laugh at them, handcuff them, steal their shit, and force feed them disinfectant while teasing them. No matter what you do, it's a game and there's a point where realism=/=immersion. It's a chore.

Yeah yeah someone always says that when I point out some shitty aspects of life that are thankfully not in the game. Everyone would suicide the second they hurt their foot and just re-acquire their gear.

Ultra realism Vs Balanced game design

I'm all for more realism but to an extent. I don't want to have to stop and take a piss every now and then and watch my nutrition. Have to recover for weeks after a gunshot wound until I'm back to how I was. Becoming cripple for life because a zombie broke my leg and I didn't have proper medical treatment. Finding the right shoe size so I don't screw my feet up with all this running. Cutting myself on a tin can when I'm eating tuna and getting infected with an unknown disease and only knowing the symptoms once it's too late. Having back pain because of all the gear I tote around. Walking everywhere because running for miles on end in otherwise practical gear is taxing. Chafing so I have to walk awkwardly or stop and treat it and rest for hours. Finding the correct tire size for a sedan. Making sure your shoes are tied and taking them off occasionally. Yeah realism sounds like a blast then huh? We can't achieve the realism some of the forumers seem to want. We can't open up every cabinet, climb through windows or use an empty tin can to drink out of. We can't capture rain water. We can't shimmy up trees or climb faster up ladders. We can, however, use warm blood bags to regain lost blood, as long as it's the right blood type. We can crawl for miles with a broken leg. We can sprint for miles fully geared with only a drink here and there. We can survive a gunshot and then return fire while bleeding out. We can survive on an awful diet of tuna and soda with no true health issues. People only argue realism when it's convenient, but seem to forget the unrealistic things that make DayZ playable. We can't achieve true realism, it's still a game, but we should aim for certain aspects to be as realistic as possible, namely weaponry and vehicles. If you ask me, anyway. But when it comes to diet, physical limitations, and requiring certain tools to do X, I don't see why that should be as realistic as can be. Yes, we get it, you can open a can of beans without a can opener. So make the can opener useless? Or not. There's a line, and I think Rocket is well aware of this. It's finding that line and getting near it instead of making this Virtual RealityZ.

    Sniper Rifles

If you're asking how will we be able to stop vehicles without anti-material rifles, well that's easy. You shoot them. If it's like the mod and most vehicles are civilian, then it doesn't take much. I've always had success just shooting a tire out, except on Urals. If you need an anti-material rifle to stop a Betty van you have other things to worry about.

New spawn points. good or bad thing?

I've spawned in Stary before twice, however I attributed it to alpher. _______ I haven't played since the new spawns but I don't think setting up spawns to encourage fucking around at hot spots is important so what's the issue? I haven't even touched the east side of the map because I've always spawned on the west. Looks like I need to play again to see what's up.

Is it safe to max drink from ponds?

I've heard it can cause illness but I've done it twice in emergencies and came out alright.
  22. Diggydug (DayZ)

Should you only have one character per server?

I'd like this, at least to see how it goes, but I don't think this is the best solution overall. If I had the choice to play on a server where I only had that character, I'd do that. I don't think forcing everyone to manage one character for every server is all that great.

Toggle between burst and single shot

Etherimp said it. It's T by default and it does work. Last I checked there was no indication which fire mode you were in though, but I don't use the M4 often.

    Sniper Rifles

Why do you want anti-material rifles so bad? KSVK would make more sense, but it's still bad gameplay wise (imo) and such a crazy thing to have just lying around lil' ol' Chernarus. I personally don't want it or see why it would be in the game, but if it happened my jimmies wouldn't be as rustled as if the AS50 were added.

Or, Gibonez, they can have first person servers where everyone is restricted to FPV. How do those servers not meet your expectations?
