    Zombies = Players?

I've always considered any zombies beyond 200m to be a stranger's doing. Your best bet, if your curious, is if you see zombies at that range, to hide and survey the situation. If they disappear and you're 200m or so out, then you know it's clear. If they stick around, move back a little. If they persist, then you know someone is in the town and you should be ready to engage if it comes to that. Generally people get a few zombies on them as they leave and you can decide if they're worth taking a shot at or if they're a waste of ammo. Please don't be the type who thinks everyone deserves a few rounds. If that's you then just run into the town and find them.

    My Survival Suggestions For NoobZ.

Because one shot and you've got yourself more meat than you'd need for a day? Hell yeah! Here's a tip. Search barns for an early weapon and if you find a Lee Enfield, grab it. Deadly accurate up to 300m, plentiful ammo, and each shot packs a punch. It's not godly but it's the best "low-tier" weapon if you ask me. Good for making your way north. Oh and as said above, crouch instead of crawl, but when you hit a hard surface (pavement, hard dirt) hold left shift to walk to make less noise.

    Majority of playerbase are kids?

That's probably because of Epoch, if anything. I don't know much about it, but I'm under the impression it's much more oriented towards PvP and gear is easier to obtain. I've only played it a couple of times and just didn't like the trading system so I uninstalled it. I don't play on that many servers, nor do I talk to many people, but I feel like most people are 16+ on the servers I generally play on. Considering the times I play though, most of the younger people are probably in school or asleep.

How much are you willing to pay for DayZ Standalone ?

I'd pay up to $25 but doesn't mean I'd be happy about it. $20 I am comfortable with, $15 I am eager to part with to play in an incredibly buggy and frustrating state.
  5. Nah, I don't want it because it's not needed and as a game mechanic I think it would be a detriment more than anything. "Damn I need some blood. Oh hey a guy getting chased by zeds!" *pow pow* "Yum" If it were to be implemented there would need to be adverse effects, like the shakes or contracting a serious disease. One problem with DayZ is that it's a game ("mod" w/e) and people aren't authentic. They want to do crazy things just to be dicks, and so they'll kill people, eat them for shits and giggles, and brag about it, ignoring the food on the guy's body, or saving it for later. I believe cannibalism is in Aftermath and one guy says he kills on sight because other people are food. It's just a stupid excuse and not needed. If someone wants to argue realism, well... You want realism? Then make it so you have to discard the bits that you can't eat, have the smell attract zombies, and spend a decent amount of time cooking it. Make it so you can't carry two tires or an entire engine, etc.

Looking For A Fun Epoch Server? look no further.

Aren't there Epoch forums somewhere? Serious question.
  7. Diggydug (DayZ)

is melee combat completely ducked now

Far from pointless, but it does seem like a zombie can hit you if you can hit it, at least with the hatchet, which is silly, considering a hatchet adds length to your hit. Try to get 'em from behind if you can, if not, keep practicing it's not pointless, but isn't as effective as it once was.
  8. That's another topic on it's own, but I find it less plausible in the zombie fiction, because they expend way too much energy without enough gain. You would effectively be able to just wait a couple of days, conserving your energy, and then you'd be able to out-walk those that didn't eat. I don't mind either type, but I prefer the slow and rotting zombies. I'll never fathom why some simple villagers and farmers are able to keep up with a seemingly trained and in-shape individual, while they don't bleed out and aren't phased by any sort of pain as far as I can tell. I don't care what kind of infection it is, if they couldn't run a mile nonstop before, they can't run a mile nonstop then. EDIT: This isn't to say I support DayZ having slow zombies, in fact I don't want that, but just my 2 cents on that. It's all fiction so trying to say how it'd really work is just fun imagining.
  9. The problem with making zombies harder currently, is that it's primarily artificial difficulty, which is just frustrating. Get hit by zombie! Oh no my legs, they broke! That's harder, yes, but not in the best way. ___________ I'm a fan of walking zombies as well, but from my understanding, the "zombies" in DayZ aren't even zombies, but infected people...who for some reason can run like a trackstar. As said the zombies currently are a strain so no-go for the mod. However even if it was possible for the SA I don't think it'd be the best choice. People expect the SA to have some similarities to the mod, and running "zombies" are part of that. They'll be more dangerous from what I know, in that they don't walk inside buildings, more infections, and more zombies. Let's see how that plays out before we decide that all those running animations need to be scrapped for shambling animations. There's a game that aims to do what you're looking for, but (surprise) it's in alpha and there's not much to do in it right now. The goal is for infection and the environment to be your main threat, with the zombies being a constant threat forcing you to keep quiet or keep on the move. It's called The Dead Linger and I'm sure you've heard of it if you look into proper zombie games, but it has a long way to go to be what everyone wants it to be. Here's a link to the site. http://www.thedeadlinger.com/ It's also on Steam as an Early Access thing or something, I don't know what they call it because most of that is garbage but yeah.

    DayZ can be very frustrating

Not sure how it is in Epoch, really, I've heard it's quite PvP oriented compared to vanilla, but solo-ing is easy, just takes a lot of patience. It's unnerving knowing no one is watching your back when you're poking around, but if you know the path less traveled, take it, and you will be fine 90% of the time. ________ My frustration stems from how "unfair" the game can be, or just how fair it truly is. I mostly aim to find and fix vehicles, I enjoy it, but then there are times when I spend hours gathering parts, having the worst luck finding something that is typically common, only to see someone drive off in the car as I return. Or worse, a helicopter is fixed, but just before refueling, disappears after restart. At this point it's just part of DayZ.

Call of Duty Zombies meets DayZ?

I'll never consider the CoD zombies to be "zombies" and they definitely don't belong here. Getting increasingly stronger and running while eating lead? Not a fan. You can't even hide from them, from what I know, which is one problem I have. DayZ "zombies" are the ones you can hide from. Barricading would be fantastic, if the zombies could climb through low windows, weren't glitchy, and more buildings were able to be entered. But that's not really a CoD thing.

    So....What the heck??

The only public hive I play on is US 3480, and I'm pleased with the admins there. Give it a shot if you want to stick to public hives.

    You NEED bandits like me

I'm not going to sit here and read this entire thread because it's kind of jumped around, so I'll just say what I thought after reading some of the OP's points. ______________ No, we don't need bandits like you. You're not even a bandit if you ask me, just someone who gets a kick out of being a dick in a game, which is all too common. If people who killed for shits and giggles were suddenly gone tomorrow, I don't see who would be complaining. Bandits are needed, as "awful" as they are, but people who set up in populated areas or camp high value spots are playing the wrong mod if you ask me. Bandits are going to kill, they may do so indiscriminately, but it's when a "bandit" goes out of his way to find someone to murder, leaves the body or simply hides it, and goes off to find someone else, that it's ridiculous. Bandits in DayZ are the ones who see another player, and shoot them, sure. But they're not the ones who go somewhere TO shoot another player. Bandits are the ones who go to NWAF to get some gear, and won't think twice about killing to protect themselves. They're not someone who goes to NWAF to sit in the trees and aim down the runway hoping to kill for shits and giggles. If you think people like that would exist in a similar scenario in the real world, you're delusional. I know why people do it in the game, because they enjoy the satisfaction of ruining someone else's experience, knowing that someone came a long way only to lose it all. They're the trolls and instigators of the internet, undeniably. Those type of "bandits" aren't needed at all. But what I don't understand, is if you think that you don't do it for that reason, why aren't you playing Wasteland then and fighting other well-armed people? __________ Summary: Nope, you're not needed, stop trying to elevate yourself. DayZ needs that human nature and lack of predictability, but that's not what you are.

    DayZ 1.8 Feedback

Never had it happen until now and I associated the sudden tilting with it.

    DayZ 1.8 Feedback

If the helis, or at least the littlebirds, tilt when someone ejects now because of this update, it's not working as well as it should be. It just cost me a helicopter when a friend ejected, with many successful ejections prior. Everything but the hull just went red as my friend ejected. I might be convinced it was another player, considering we were at Devil's, were it not for there being 3 people on the server other than us. Them DayZ glitches, always the way to bring a man down.
  16. Go into houses, try on clothes and get accustomed to their stats...and go into more houses. Every building being enterable is a HUGE game changer to me, and I believe it will have such a huge impact on the way some people play that it'll be good to know those building layouts ASAP. That is what gets me excited more than anything.

What happened to good ol' DayZ?

Even a downgrade wouldn't fix anything, it's the community, not the mod. There are still places out there where people aren't after instant loots for that PvP deathmatch they love so much.
  18. Diggydug (DayZ)

    Helicopter stolen again... le sigh....

"No one just happens to be running through a forest in the middle of butt fawk no where that goes even further into butt fawk no where." I do, in hopes of finding things that aren't mine.

I cant find bloodbags in hospitals :/

Bloodbags definitely spawn at hospitals, you're just being particularly unlucky. As said above, grab some of that junk loot and drop it a few hundred meters away and return. Once when my friend was in dire need when we first played the update I checked the hospital roof and found an untouched box full of medical supplies, with more bloodbags than I could carry. Pray to the DayZ gods, it can't hurt.

    La5A2 holo VS m14 aim

M14, definitely. Personally I'm no fan of the L85, but with a holo site? Definitely not. The M14 is good up close and afar, very accurate, and very deadly even up to its maximum range.

    DAYZ Trees

My advice: Use trees as cover and move away from whoever's after you, crown a hill if possible, and hide in a pine tree, waiting to get the jump. Most people have trouble hitting a moving target, and trees serve to break their line of sight. That combined with unpredictable movemement helps you out.
  22. I feel the KoS "problem" is not able to fixed with game mechanic, but I'd like to be wrong there. It's the community, more than anything, and the community doesn't really seem to be here to play a survival game, but a PvP game with the fun of scavenging for the guns. I think the only thing that can really fix that is the standalone being a turnoff for those in the community who play for the above reason. Where survival is actually difficult alone. I can dream. Until then I expect nothing to really change.
  23. Punisher, it sounds like you're trying to justify your own playstyle when you say you see it as teaching people how to play. You're glorifying a laughably easy thing to do. I'll simplify the process. What you need: DMR/M24Respective ammoCan of beansCoke (never bring a Mt. Dew)Patience or another monitor to watch youtube on If you have a DMR (preferable for most) then you keep shooting, correcting your shots as you fire, until you hit the guy that you're not going to loot that didn't know you were there. If you have an m24 you judge the distance of various objects for future reference, use rangefinders or a map marker, and zero in and shoot. By far the easiest way to "survive" is camping, hunkering down, and just murdering anyone you see fit. Don't make it up to be something it's not. Camping is a skill anyone can master, if they want, and from my experience, most campers aren't even good shots. It's also extremely boring, if you ask me, which is why many just don't do it. _________ I'm not against campers, it's part of DayZ, but the people who do it are typically awful at anything but camping and full of themselves, as seen above.
  24. I find the tractor to be a beautiful piece of equipment. It's undesirable by most people, so they will leave it alone more often than not. It's faster than running. It's a tractor! The main thing though is people find it undesirable. I lent a guy a tractor once and he hid just behind the factory near Polana, just over the crest of a small hill, and it was untouched for a day and someone no doubt saw it. I saw a guy get in one once, probably his first time, and he drove it 100 meters before getting out and going back to his business, deciding it wasn't worth it. It's an ugly duckling, is all. The only disadvantage is its tendency to explode at the slightest provocation, but if you're hitting things that often you shouldn't be driving.

    Difficulties with game.

Backpacks only eat items if it lacks room, at that point it's up to you to properly manage it, as cumbersome as that can get. You'll learn to work with it and be prepared for the task at hand before it's too late. You can hide in a pine tree to lose zombies, and remember, you can hold SHIFT to walk. Walking while crouched is often the best way (imo) to go through an area in case you have to pick up the pace immediately. I generally do that once I hit pavement to keep the noise down. The inventory system isn't god-awful, it just takes getting used to and wasn't made for getting through quickly like you'd be used to in other games. You learn where different things are placed typically and how to navigate it pretty quick, it shouldn't be an issue if you play some more. Right now, finding a decent weapon is easy. Go into a barn, pray to the DayZ gods (or sacrifice a goat with a hatchet), and you'll have a Lee in no time. The Lee Enfield is powerful and accurate, with its main drawback being that it's extremely loud. I like it though, no one is going to find you if you're careful. If you want we could play sometime and I'd join you on a little adventure to help show you the ropes. _________________ Also, if you haven't already, do some of the ArmA tutorials and play around with certain things in the editor to get used to them before it matters. Things like flying (in case you snag a heli), shooting accurately at a distance with various rifles, as well as getting familiar with the map are pretty helpful things to know sooner rather than later.
