So does the way you play Dayz reflect your 'real life' personality?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to Jock McScottish's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My personality is very prevalent when I play DayZ normally. I will help those I think deserve it and kill those who I think deserve it. I deal my own justice and tend to keep to myself. I'm not there to kill you or anyone else, but if you come between me and my goals I will work to overcome you and enjoy doing it. I'm reluctant to turn down a nearby plea for help, but am very cautious. The people who do act completely different baffle me. Is being you so bad that you don't want to do it when playing a game as social as DayZ? -
My name ingame is Patrick. My name in real life is Patrick. Not Rick.

Neither current gen should even be considered. If it were to happen it wouldn't be soon and next-gen would be the way to go. But if you ask me, it wouldn't be the same DayZ experience for various reasons on console. Hell, the KoS would be worse, no doubt, as fewer people seem to have mics, and most people are there for some quick fun, not an investment of time into a character. People would rage about the bugs. People would rage about lack of updates, which would take even longer. People would likely be frustrated with clunky controls. Imagine trying to find that canteen your pal dropped for you with a joystick. It's hard enough with a mouse, looking over the ground constantly trying to get the option. Plus ALL servers would be Vanilla, and most of the DayZ audience doesn't even play that and prefer tons of vehicles and guns.

Why will I miss the mod? It's not going anywhere.

Most of the time I'm on foot, but when I find a car and have the time, I get it fixed up ASAP. Preferred method of travel? Huey. Fast and scenic.

I'm biased against Microsoft, but a big no. "Opened up"? Still a lot of hoops to jump through. It'd be a lot more work development-wise too if I'm not mistaken to have it work on the Xbox as well. The controls would be an issue as well, clunky at best... And how many people would the servers be able to handle, alongside all of those zombies?

Helicopter repair parts?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to armyantsrule's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As far as I know engine is typical. Compared to the 8 windscreen you need, it shouldn't be difficult to find. -
He'll be lucky getting the proper DL speed if he's anything like me when I had to deal with that. He will not be able to play real-time multiplayer games using his new internet. It sucks.

If you want to do this vanilla...well don't. Not yet. Play around with choppers elsewhere first, get a feel for them. Some choppers basically fly themselves, others require constant awareness. The littlebird is a good one to try first. _______ As for where to find them in DayZ. On a vanilla server, NWAF or NEAF. Hidden far north or along the edge of the map, or at Devil's Castle. If you fancy a swim, you can check out Skallisty Island (across Krutoy) for a huey, but have fun fixing that as you make multiple trips from coast to coast.

Looking to find a Trainer
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to Scythize's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Go to bootcamp in ArmA to learn the very basics. Play DayZ to learn about the people who play. Fly around in the ArmA editor to get a hang of flying various aircraft. Your mettle will be tested various times along the way. You will succeed or fail. Either way, welcome to DayZ. EDIT: Hell I'll learn you how to fly though on one of those crazy vehicular servers if you'd like. -
Does knowing how to read a topographic map help you?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to rooniedoo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well it can't hurt. It's a basic skill that can help a lot, especially if travelling in a vehicle and looking for the past of least resistance off-road. Most don't do so well up hill. -
Something Rotten in US3476

http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/22386-admin-abuse-what-you-need-to-know/ If you want to report them genuinely, read some stuff first, use more appropriate words, and gather some evidence. You using your first post to defame another server and its admins (or it only one?) isn't really the best way to be convincing. Welcome to the forums. -
Please bring back Pitch Black Nights and Lunar Cycle!!!!

Don't the public hive servers still have regular nights or am I mistaken? -
People just dont do role playing anymore
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to meat pie's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you want to roleplay in DayZ then DayZRP is probably worth a look into. Just the whitelisting process can be enough to get most people out to ruin the fun away. Those who slip through get banned soon enough. -
I say start with vanilla DayZ if/when you do first play and see how you enjoy that first. No matter what mods of DayZ I play, I always end up back at vanilla.

1. Varies from server to server, but hacking is not as common as it used to be. When I play now, I rarely run into a hacker and feel most players I find acquired their weapons legitimately. 2. I don't know how it is in WarZ, but again this varies. Public hive has loot that's overall "rare" compared to many other servers, but it's easy enough to find once you know where to look and have the patience. 3. I don't know enough about it to say. I bet Google and Youtube do though. 4. Varies. Some servers (rare) have 24/7 day/night cycle like the real world. Others have it always day. Some have it customized to be day and night for short periods each. Now I'm a bit biased, but I'd say it's a worthy purchase to buy ArmA 2 along with Operation Arrowhead, even if it is just for DayZ.

There's more to DayZ than just trying to be a hero or a bandit. Just play. Do you what YOU think is right or fun. If you're an ass and think it's hilarious/fun to shoot unarmed people, do it, because you will anyway. As said above, not everyone kills on sight, but you don't notice that because they didn't kill you... If you don't want to be a bandit, as you just said, then don't murder fresh spawns. If he says he's friendly, you tell him to stop. Then tell him what to do from there to avoid being killed. Example: Stop! (he stops) Where are you going? (he says where) Okay well go on. Try anything fishy and you're dead. At that point, it's all up to him and you can tell if he's a threat easily based on how his own choices. It's also nice to actually interact with people other than your immediate friends if you ask me. As for your lack of willpower. Don't cave in if that's what pisses you off. "Oh my god everyone keeps killing me, it's so god damn annoying! Guess I better start doing the same!" What kind of logic is that?

Bluntly, I'm in need of a new router and know jack-all about what I should be looking for so I'm asking for advice. Currently I have a Belkin F7D2301, which has a host of problems now, with its main pro being the amount of trauma it can endure. Because of my experience with Belkin tech support and their routers, I'm not buying another Belkin so keep in that in mind. Price range $50-$100 USD. I'd rather stay on the low end of course, but all suggestions are welcome. Any info needed, just ask.

Zero. I thought I was a rare breed but here I'm proven wrong. Not that I look for them though.

Admin Abuse and How to stop it.
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to TheShine299's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
How to stop admin abuse? Don't play on servers where admins are asshats. If everyone did that then they wouldn't last long, but sadly, people do. _______________ In the OP's case, abuse may or may not have taken place, but they were dicks. If you want admins with some decency, then keep hopping around until you find a server with admins you like. For me, if an admin is rude, abusive, and/or cheats, then I point out why I'm leaving over sidechat and leave. Simple as that. -
I'd be fine if blood bags didn't exist, or were extremely rare. Add on self-bloodbagging and I just find it silly. It's generally on those crazy PvP servers that don't admit to being PvP servers anyway, and they're easy enough for me to avoid. Sometimes I enjoy going and killing for the sake of killing, but self bloodbagging even then is silly. Too "gamey" I guess, as it just seems like a healthpack at that point.

I go north because I'm nosy and don't enjoy the PvP-fest that is the coast. I find people far north are more interesting, and extremely unwilling to die because they know it's a painful run back even with the best spawn. The coast doesn't have the cool cars I want anyway.

Does foilage disapear completely when veiwing from a distance?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to MoOnKat's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A stationary ghillie is still hard to spot in a grassy field if the grass doesn't render. It'd probably be easier (and safer) to spot them from 500m or so than 150m. If it's a bush, not just tall grass, then as said it will be a simplified form and still hard to spot someone in it. If you want to find someone, keep in mind it pays to be patient and vigilant and hope they move. -
Is DayZ one of your main games?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to Kaffarov37's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yep. It is my most played game lately. I'll play Skyrim or another singleplayer game for a bit, but then I want to jump right back into DayZ and end up there for hours. -
Best settings for spotting people
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to Ragstorm88's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I said I didn't support him doing this for the sake of getting that cheap edge in PvP. I also said I personally don't notice a significant difference other than changing how far away grass and foliage renders because people stand out in DayZ unless they're in camo.
