  1. To me, weapons are ridiculously easy to find in the DayZ Mod. I'd rather not we go back to that density. Get a lee within 5 minutes of spawn and I'll be able to take on even those dastardly elektro snipers if I wanted. I want my life to be more valuable here. However, with it being alpher I'm game to test many things and expect as much.

    Mosin 9130

Yes, I believe you are wrong. I think its the long building south on the other side of the street. I was thinking that's the hospital. The building northwest of it being the super market. The building southeast being the orange house that's also enterable in the mod. That's how I was picturing it all, if any of that is wrong then it's likely all of it is. EDIT: I should add that, again, I haven't actually been to Elektro in the SA, so maybe they moved things around, but it definitely should be in that general area and visible from one corner of that building or another.

Server Hopping, DayZ Top Experience Ruining Factor.

Which is why I've gone through two M4s and two Mosins and continuously find gear. It's not because I go to the places less traveled and look in every car I go by...nah! It's because I sit there and hop servers because "it's the only way". I like that loot doesn't just respawn anymore, people server hop even if it does. If server hopping is dealt with it will make the game much more enjoyable for those out to survive and scavenge. It's not even hard to get gear at the moment, people are simply lazy. They need to get something done, that's for sure. I'm sure if they try they can figure it out. I'd be happy if it was 1 character per server to be honest but most people think that's crazy...

Health system - How many bullets does it take

My friend shot 8 shots, all of which he thinks hit, into someone before they finally went down. This was with the M4 the guy had no body armor, only a raincoat, helmet, and camo pants. I felt like that was a lot. Equally, the only Mosin shot I've ever fired at anyone took him out in one shot to the gut. He may have been low on blood as it was, I'm insure, but I pray it's not 5 shots with a Mosin to get a kill because I'd be SOL reloading 4 times.
  5. I think preventing server hopping would make them rare enough. Except those M4s. I can't NOT find them.

    Sniper Rifles

When people arguing "realism" for rifles like this being in the game, they generally mean logistically. As I've already said, if you play STALKER, do you get pissy when there's no M16s and FN SCARs? They even have an economy where it would be possible to get that but for the setting it makes no sense and I don't see people questioning it. The reason people want it here is because this is multiplayer and they want an advantage over someone who has no idea they exist. The vast majority likely just find joy in murdering discretely and the rifles, no matter how rare, wouldn't be very uncommon after awhile due to server hopping so it'd become a big mess quite quick. Is it worth it? We've seen it happen once, why wouldn't it happen again when more people are playing? Back to your main point, the game isn't aiming to be 100% realistic, but it does have a proper setting (Chernarus) and it's meant to follow real world logic. If you want to get into medical issues...when has morphine healed bones? Blood being stored at warm temperatures? Stopping bleeding immediately with rags? We're not aiming for realism, but we do want the game to not take a step back to where it was, and keep to its setting.

How do you craft a splint

Is there any way to obtain sticks out in the wilderness or do I have to continue finding them in houses? Couldn't get an axe to work for the life of me.
  8. I'll go ahead and say I haven't sat and read through this thread yet, but I'm currently not in favor of this. DayZ is kind of an experiment, right? Let's see how it goes. After my first full day of getting to play I met one guy who tried to kill me immediately. Was checking out the new military camp near Zeleno/Pavlovo and he tried to sneak up on me, unaware my friend was watching my back. This was after I tried to initiate conversation with him, as I knew he was in the area. That's one guy. Three guys had me and my pal outgunned and outnumbered, and they said to just go away and we went separate ways. Another stranger just before my would-be murderer was "jogging" by and simply shouted "Sup?!" and we kept on going. I think he was killed by my would-be-murderer... My point: I've actually met many more people willing to at engage over direct to diffuse a situation so far than I have who stay silent and try to get a kill. Let's see how it plays out. It's new, many people are new and may just not be confident in their abilities, but I want to see how it goes before we decided to affiliate people with this or that based on how they play.
  9. I'd rather night be moonless, personally, where gamma doesn't work apparently, than everyone basically having night vision. We're in alpha, let's try some things out. I know in ArmA 2 on moonless nights gamma didn't do anything, so I'll take your word it's the same here. I actually had a point where I was relying on muzzle flash once to make sure I wasn't running into trees when I couldn't see stars. THAT was an adventure.

    Mosin 9130

I may be wrong, as I haven't even gone to Elektro in DayZ SA, but I believe that's the school.

    Uphill running

When I'm sprinting and hit one of these annoying slight inclines, I type A and D as I go up. It keeps the pace more or less.

    Looting Killed Players

My friend's unconscious self did this as well repeatedly into a wall nearby. He was also invincible to melee attacks but a single bullet took him out. Alpha.
  13. Diggydug (DayZ)

    Is it just me or...

I've found issues, but I find no reason to bitch considering it's alpha. Sometimes loot just refuses to let me pick it up. Sometimes my gun likes to re-holster immediately. I accidentally hid a body once just by one misclick. I broke my legs randomly and had to request a bullet to the face instead of suffering the long crawl back from whence I came. Nothing I didn't expect, but I could understand very well how someone would buy this or get it as a gift only to be very disappointed when they get an M4A1 and snap their legs or get sick from a silly zombie. People like to forget it's an alpha sometimes...and they forget DayZ Mod is still buggy.

    Looting Killed Players

It could be a bug as well. I died far north from a tumble down the stairs (KoS stairs I swear) and my friend tried to find my corpse to get my stylish headgear and he said it was gone. I hadn't logged out. However, that is a bit more unique as with DayZ Alpher you never know if the corpse just fell through the ground or somehow glitched 30m somewhere else.

    Places for Millitary Loot

If it has soviet-ish tech, it's likely it has military loot. Every concrete building with CRT monitors in it I've been in has been a place of military loot. What exactly are you looking for?
  16. Diggydug (DayZ)

    Sniper Rifles

Agreed. Strong winds in Chernarus+ (or whatever we're calling it). What with those fast moving clouds and swaying pines. Not that I'd want the snipers in question any more, but if they are added I definitely want other variables to come into the equation. Who said they weren't real? When people argue realism it's generally the logistics of a western special forces rifle of which there are very few in the world (relatively speaking) in some backwoods Eastern European country with nothing of interest to those powers... And even if western powers got involved why were they bringing high caliber anti-material rifles to combat unarmed mad men? .50 cals are not anti-infantry, even if Hollywood says otherwise.
  17. Diggydug (DayZ)

My first banditry and questions ???

Military loot spawns at military places. Anywhere that seems like it has 60s tech or higher is probably military and you may just find something of interest there. Your OP implied you're not new, what with burying an axe in his face and feeling regret because you imagined if you were new too... ___________ You know how to give a weapon to someone you're unfamiliar with that isn't a dick? Tell them to stand still. Tell them you'll drop it 100m (or whatever you're comfortable with) away and you'll signal them by wagging (Q and E). Go 100m away and drop the weapon, like an axe or bat. Wag. Then go on your merry way. You can always decline to help someone just as well, no need start the game off trying to be some swag bandit. You'll find that a lot of people who know their shit will give you a chance and can tell when you're trying something, like walking up to them within melee distance. Then you're on the receiving end of a Mosin or they just mess with you to get you good 'n lost.

    Sniper Rifles

Ah yeah I do miss zooming in when iron siting, and it does seem all the scopes aren't magnifying like they should. I've only personally experienced one so far ( PSU for Mosin) but a rifle with the magnification of the AS50 in ArmA 2 is ridiculous. I was comparing the first level of magnification in ArmA 2 to the second. For DayZ it's not needed. Why you're engaging that someone far away is beyond me except for being a dick. ____________ Where did everyone come from that reportedly played the mod back in the day but only just now registered? I'd imagine they'd have least registered back when the AS50s were originally removed. O_o As for SVD, I'd love for that to be in the game. It's not made for killing people 1km away and it doesn't have wicked zoom while also having a place in Chernarus. Even without a scope it'd be a great rifle. As for the M24, it doesn't make sense for it to be there other than certain people just wanting it there. Isn't a game more fun when it makes sense? Did you people play STALKER games wondering where the hell all the miniguns were? Damn there sure was a lack of m16s there too. So many Russian weapons, where were all the NATO weapons in STALKER??? D: The way I see it, the only reason people want these rifles is because they're easy to use ingame and quick to kill. You don't even have to measure distance once you're used to them in ArmA because you can judge almost as soon as you see the person. Zero in. Click. Giggle. Repeat.

Any Idea Where To Get A Can Opener?

My friend found two today. Both in houses. I find getting off the coast to the dull towns is best for obtaining specific things like that. The less a town has been run through, the more likely you are to find what you need and there are plenty of towns virtually untouched it seems.

    Sniper Rifles

Snipers will still be around. Even this early in alpha, someone with a proper scope and good aim can take you down from well beyond 300m. While I haven't experienced it in DayZ yet, in ArmA the ACOG was deadly at surprising ranges there and I expect it to be here. The OP has already mentioned they're fine with the Lapua .338 as long as the scope zooms. Basically they're looking for an easy killer for targets that are no threat to them due to distance alone. If you have to zoom in beyond the normal magnification for something like DayZ, you need to work on your aim. Especially here in the SA where people seem extremely vulnerable without body armor, which fortunately I've not had to experience. EDIT: Also, if we're aiming for some sort of realism in terms of logistics and setting, finding M4s (and M16s) in this environment isn't too wild. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M4a1#Users http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M16_rifle#Users Both rifles have made their rounds and are used all over. The AS50 has no place in this environment unless SOCOM got involved in lil' ol Chernarus. OSV-96 may show up; maybe the KSVK, but who and what are they engaging at such distances when their main enemy is an unarmed mad man attacking civilians? At least with the KSVK in ArmA 2 it has a PSO scope and no zeroing so you actually have to take a moment to aim and potentially gauge the distance. "Snipers" don't seem to like that, even the "snipers" in Wasteland seem to leave it for those same reasons. This is certainly a game made for fun, but what's fun for you may not be for others, keep that in mind. Something like that isn't something you can say, "Well just don't use it, let us who want it have it, duh," since it affects everyone. Saying someone who disagrees is just some sad kid who got shot one day and cried is pathetic and shows you're losing ground.

    Sniper Rifles

If they add .50 cals (or other heavy duty rifles) they should include wind, of which there obviously is and make them a pain in the ass to lug around. No stuffing them in a pack so you can carry an assault rifle as well. Quick to damage and become nigh ineffective, and rare as hell. However, with server hopping being so easy the rarity won't even stop most people so until that's solved, no. The only reason people want these rifles is for easy sniping on other unsuspecting players just to be dicks. I'm okay with killing, I killed a guy 50m away from me today because him and his pal were probably responsible for two other murders and I was saving my own hide. However, getting rifles like this for the sake of camping up with your beans and canteen to ruin other peoples' day is just not what I think the SA is about, otherwise ammo would be a bit more plentiful, along with scopes and compatible rifles. ____________ I love having attachable scopes, even for a good range, but not crazy powerful anti-material rifles to go along with them when we don't even have "material" to shoot at yet. They're only used for killing someone who isn't a threat that didn't know you even existed anyway. Marksman rifles should be about as high as it goes if you ask me. (SVD and DMR...if the DMR even)

    Always thirsty

Find a well in a town, the one with the pump, or a pond. Drink and drink until your guy complains he's full. He'll say something like "My stomach is completely full" and you should be set for a good long time. Keep sodas or a canteen on hand for when you get a bit thirsty and you're good to go again. Every other town or so I stop and go to a well if I can find one and drink up 'til I'm full.

How does one go about making a makeshift splint or getting wood/logs?

    $29.99

I expected a lower price, myself. $20 max. However, I'm a bit of a "fanboy" and considering the amount of work we know went into this, I'll go with it. This is probably the only Early Access title worth $30 and I'm okay with that.
