Force mic chat: skype etc.. thru dayz?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to sai (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Where has it been done properly before? Different people have different input levels as well. Some people have god-awful mics or no mic at all. Those with bad ones either have a lot of amplified white noise going on or their words are just screwed up. Imagine coming into a town and hearing "Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzvvvvvvvvvvvvvvttttttt" or something similar due to one guy's crappy mic. Not my idea of fun, personally. -
Force mic chat: skype etc.. thru dayz?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to sai (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
As said above, that's a lot of work for something that would just be worked around. What game even does that right? We have brains, that's why we see the flaws in this system. -
Force mic chat: skype etc.. thru dayz?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to sai (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
He's saying direct chat broadcasts at a set distance. Not sure how it is in DayZ SA but in the mod (or ArmA 2 rather) I believe it goes out 80m. So every word you spoke in a town would broadcast your position. This is why I type if I'm "whispering" in DayZ because it broadcasts (at least in ArmA) at half the distance IIRC and doesn't give away my position. _____________ People would find a way to bypass it. I mean you could just make it so direct chat is "always on", as it does when you double tap CAPS, but that would get annoying fast, especially with people that have awful mics, of which there are many. -
Have a Mosin and a PU Scope. Can I zoom the scope? How? What does bipod do?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to venkman302's topic in General Discussion
The PU scope for the Mosin is basically just another sight at this point. The magnification is negligible if you ask me, but it does help me personally just because you can see more of what you're aiming at. Don't expect to be sniping with it, it doesn't zoom anymore than it does while you're aiming down it. There is another scope out there I've yet to find apparently, that has good magnification for the Mosin. -
I'd rather not have rare weapons being toted around. Notably the VSS, AS-Val. and MTs's. If the SV-98 was extremely rare I'd be okay with that as well. The range it's capable of compared to other guns I expect we might have would truly make it a treasure, for better or worse. If we get the VSS or AS-Val they need to use the correct ammo which would be ridiculously rare in this setting along with the rifles.

How come a lot of people have working M4/Mosin's?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to andrestor's topic in General Discussion
Cars and houses have plenty of Mosins I find. Finding the ammo is the interesting part. If you're lucky though you may find an entire box of 7.62 ammo. As for the M4, it's at military spawns, as is the ammo. Those places are often victims to server hopping but the inconvenient ones I always find M4s at. -
Just happened to me as well for the second time. Found a lone Mosin bullet, went to pick it up. "You are dead" Thanks. No one shot me, I was on the highest floor with walls all around and no one was heard. My friend went to investigate and found the doors closed (as I had left them) and nothing amiss. My corpse was gone, as expected though.

Being friendly doesn't mean trusting anyone or helping anyone. Personally I lay down my intentions quick and ask they do the same. If their story doesn't hold water, I decide if it's safer to just leave or if I need to kill them. Every time someone has been honest with me from the start, they're honest at the end and we end up enjoying the encounter. One of my best DayZ experiences was in the mod with a guy named Overwatch who stuck with me and my friend through thick and thin and ultimately succumbed to an infection. He ended it by thanking us for the experience, as he expected to be killed immediately, and wished us farewell as we put him out of his misery when no antibiotics were found. Equally, once I ran into a guy who asked if he could join me when he had only an axe. We talked for a while and he lied about stupid stuff just to try and get on my good side. Obviously this guy was trying to tag along until he got the jump on me, so I killed him then and there. _________ tl;dr you're doing it wrong and resort to the easiest way of play as a result.

Server hopping is killing this game FAST
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to phoboss's topic in General Discussion
I'd like to have a mix of it, personally. Allow me to choose if I want to have my character tied to a server like everyone else on that specific server. But equally have other servers where I can just jump around. -

Diggydug (DayZ) replied to phoboss's topic in General Discussion
Basically people server hop because people server hop. If people had to venture out, then there would still be loot to be had you just might not want to waste time at the obvious spots. -
I'm also interested in this. I had one but it was labeled as "ruined" and I was not going to kill myself testing it out.

DayZ need the option to switch between characters!
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to krissipo's topic in General Discussion
I'd rather each server have its own character tied to it, but I expect that to be wildly unpopular with most people and doubt it will come to. The problem with your idea is you can have one character die, then boom your new character can be in the area and right there. It's weird. For now just go on without them and regroup. -

Diggydug (DayZ) replied to phoboss's topic in General Discussion
DayZ is dying within a week of release. Alert the press! ___________ The loot spawn system is fine. I always happen upon entire towns untouched. I once walked into Zelenogorsk and the only thing touched were the barracks and a couple of houses, the rest was left unmolested full of loot. People server hopped when you could loot cycle and they will again. Prevent server hopping and people will still find loot, they just have to actually venture out. -
While the robbery system is nice it won't work.
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to ThirdSinger's topic in General Discussion
Let's see how it plays out first and experiment a little. -
Maverico was talking about dings and bumps and bullet holes staying with the car based on exactly where it was hit which would be crazy with this engine from what little I know. Personally I'd love if things other than the glass were visibly broken somehow, but I'd expect it to be based on different "states" of damage, and not specific to exactly how it got damaged. Like the glass is in ArmA 2 basically. It has cracks and holes but it's indistinguishable. _________ Breaking more specific parts would be nice though. Causing a fuel leak or busting the lights instead of breaking the "hull".

Go to your inventory and right click it while it is attached to your weapon. It should give you the option. From there you can just leave it deployed.

Hallucinations a thing or am I imagining it?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to Ageati's topic in General Discussion
This may be a case of a bug worth expanding upon. My friend would hear soda cans every now and then and it kept us on our toes. For those who get too comfortable with the false sounds it will be a case of the boy who cried wolf, and someone malicious may be cracking open a soda and someone passes it off as ambiance. -
Mine works, but often in DayZ it's delayed. Weird.

This is based off of the ArmA engine (though modified) so don't expect some GTA physics or anything like that. GTA is all about the cars. Here they are secondary. I just want most cars to be what we see on the roads already. Busted Betty vans, rusty GAZs, a few buses, Skodas and the generic crappy soviet cars that keep on chuggin'. GAZs and Urals being the military-esque type of vehicles that should imo, handle better offroad. No need for a T-90 or T-34. Personally I'd like to see a return of the AN-2 since it's not something you can just hide and take off in again without serious foresight. Maybe another plane, but that's me, nothing combative. As for helis, I'd be fine if they didn't exist here, but if they do, nothing crazy powerful and severe maintenance to keep them aloft. No need for M240s or PKMs here, you're already in the air flying faster than anything else can travel.

I've just assumed as you did, that the tactical vest was more protective, while the UK vest provided more carrying capacity. That appears to be wrong. Just stylish then, I suppose. At this stage, I'm okay with that.

Why do you "have" to feel bad for being a bandit/kos?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to Nesuma (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Are you pulling the realism card regarding KoS. If humans behaved like they do on here in the real world then we wouldn't be on a forum talking. Humans have a tendency to work with other humans more than they do to just murder each other. If two men are struggling alone in the wild and happen upon each other, they're not going to try and be sneaky and kill the guy, they're going to yell "HEY!! OVER HERE!!" and figure stuff out. I'm fine with bandits. It's just the losers who try to kill everything that moves after they server hopped the gear they need who then try to call anyone who disagrees a carbear that bothers me. Want to kill everything that moves? Wasteland has the independent "faction" just for that and it truly is a deathmatch where you can snipe from 2km away. -
Remember Green Mountain ?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to gho5tl3git@gmail.com's topic in General Discussion
My first time there was fine and no good loot. My second time my legs were rendered useless and there was plenty of nice loot. That place is dangerous, I say. -
When you wake up on the coast it's time to head north if you ask me. No time for the sissy coast.

Why do you "have" to feel bad for being a bandit/kos?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to Nesuma (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
It's just because there's a lot more to DayZ than just killing everyone. What you're doing is basically playing Wasteland as an indie with your friends, except you can rest knowing most people you come across aren't as well armed. This will be even more so when more weapons are added later along with vehicles and other big changes. I don't mind players killing each other, I don't think anyone in this thread does, but KoS just because you can't think of anything else to do is pretty lame. Granted this is an early stage of the standalone so there truly isn't a whole lot to do besides gear up, but I find that a lot of people are just server hopping to gear up, going to a popular spot, and killing other players. That just goes to show people aren't here for survival, not currently, and I cant' blame them much since we don't have a lot to do, but if it follows the same route as the mod it's pathetic. EDIT: Basically play how you want. If that means being a dick, then so be it, but don't be surprised when people call you out for being a dick.
