1.12 Dedicated Server Connecting Failed (0x00020009)
pilgrim* replied to blackswan's topic in Servers
You are making these tests on your LAN, right? - not on WAN? Where is your DNS server? What IP do outside players use to connect to your server (not the same as you use on your lan, for sure) Linux is rigorous, but windows really never was and 10 is worse than 7.. Unless you yourself get a total manual <you-decide> grip on their latest 'improvement'. Sorry if this is obvious but start from the bottom, evident stuff. If the server ran DayZ previously for clients in the web external to your lan, then it will do it again. (unless you have changed external permissions/ access conditions to the game server = easy enough to do by inadvertance) . That's all. It's the windows LAN "network" setup or - the local DNS active in your internet box that has updated to something iffy. You need to set thise absolutely by hand, not let them decide for themselves to allocate addresses or permissions or protocol. I start from scratch, take linux as gospel, and do it all by hand. I give each local machine a fixed IP for the LAN. You probably know all this already, you've done it before. Can you run a client DayZ on the server itself? Can you run a LAN linux client? - if you can't, you've narrowed down where to look. scuse me if this is boring and obvious. -
man, last time I spawned on a community vanilla server (yester-effing-day) it was pissing it down AND pissing it down half an hour each time solid with two minute pauses for the freezing gale and then there was a damned thunderstorm and I starved to death soaked to the bloody skin looking for one effing apple in - an orchard, a line of apple trees 50 back gardens with apple and pear trees ,a town, three villages (every house empty zero loot, zero fruit) AND another bl00dy orchard and there was NOONE on the server so I guess you take the rough with the smooth, right?

Is there a separate customer service center here?

it is what it is -
it's probably the mod IMO - log in, log out and see if you are the man who logged in (or not) Then try other servers - like e.g. the community vanilla servers? Or you get killed, log out see if you still got the same face you logged in. If you are impatient about it, just go with the flow, you might be a woman but you don't have to be a lady

I just lost several geared characters?

OK mate - so you can't read. << It USED TO BE that gear carried by a player (on the server) AND gear in stashes (barrels, car boots, tents, whatever) WAS NOT counted in the loot economy, it was "out of play" for the loot spawn count. then I HEARD on the Forum that stuff in stashes IS NOW INCLUDED as "in play" for the loot spawn count (-recently- for "various reasons" ). I have NOT heard since that stashed loot has been taken OUT of the overall count again. I guess it's still counted.>> - so can you read, or can't you read ? Have a look around this FORUM and pick up some useful info. Sounding off in ignorance is boring, don't you think? Well .. maybe you don't think. Sorry mate - if you can't read and can't think I cant help you. -
<duh> ? Loot economy - heard of ? search function - top right corner of page directly beneath you name & icons Search " Loot Economy" : Found 84747 results

You call it a Tamagotchi ? We call it a Tune or an Avatar

pilgrim* replied to Jake Blake's topic in New Player Discussion
players with multiple tunes on one server tend to put loot in stashes so all their other characters can pick it up - loot in stashes counts in the server loot economy ATM (last time I heard, and haven' seen otherwise since) - As soon as stashes reach max spawn of weapon X, then no more of weapon X will spawn on that server. Make yourself ten tunes one one server and you don't care how many of them get killed collecting loot from hotspots.. send in another clone and add another clone character to your list. Anything ANY of them get away with goes into the communal stash. Pretty soon you've got a bunch of clones who grab an assault rifle and ammo & gear up "whichever" they are, as soon as they log in. Two or three players running THAT endless clone-team system can stop the whole server from spawning ANYTHING interesting at all. - and that's even assuming your multi-clone player NEVER dupes anything at all because he's HONEST. I wouldn't EVER accuse a clone-team puppet master of DUPING to fill his clone-team stashes "faster" But that's how come SOME Xbox servers are mysteriously totally empty of gear, IMO... (even though it's REALLY UNUSUAL for "Xbox players" to have that kind of attitude, obviously, they JUST IN THEIR HEARTS AREN'T those kind of people (.. er .. mainly, right?). It USED TO BE that gear carried by a player (on the server) AND gear in stashes (barrels, car boots, tents, whatever) WAS NOT counted in the loot economy, it was "out of play" for the loot spawn count. then I HEARD on the Forum that stuff in stashes IS NOW INCLUDED as "in play" for the loot spawn count ( for "various reasons" ). I have NOT heard since then that stashed loot has been taken OUT of the overall count again. I guess it's still counted. so TEN clone-newspawns who run, one after the other, to the nearest mil tents and try to grab a mil weapon, and when they get one they stash it (or just log out with it) - after a while that's going to give you (one player) a clone platoon who can turn up, geared up, as fast as the other player can shoot them. Get three clone-puppet players working together, and they can bring up a few dozen geared & armed clones to defend their base as fast as you can gun them down. This doesn't seem to happen a lot on PC, but maybe it just hasn't caught on yet or I aint noticed yet? I'm NOT going to say "on PC you meet a different class of player".. ( see? .. I didn't say it ). for me the baseline of DayZ is = LIVE UNTIL YOU DIE = anything that messes with that makes the game less interesting (BUT I'm a stupid old-school git, right?) ... ALL IMO, folks enjoy -

http://www.snipercentral.com/u-k-l42a1-sniper-rifle/ The No.4 Lee–Enfield was officially taken out of Brit Forces service in 1957 but remained in widespread British and "ex-Empire" & Commonwealth service until the mid-1960s. those OLD WWII classic Lee-Enfields are all over the place, all in .303 . More than 17 million were manufactured ?? I guess they could show up anywhere from India to Canada & Iran but not with NATO troops ?? - then 1000+ were modded and reintroduced as the L42A1 Lee–Enfield (link) : British Army, Royal Marines and RAF Regiment sniper rifle chambered for the 7.62mm NATO cartridge. It entered service in 1970 & was replaced in 1985. The L42A1 was the last model in the line of Lee bolt-action rifles. Very few of them around. Apart from the shape of the weapon & caliber, the rifling is right-hand in this 7.62x51 model (ultimate giveaway), in all the previous Lee Enfields rifling is left-hand. - heh - look down the barrel. I guess the bottom line is there are so many varieties of rifles to please the gun fans.. kind of "any excuse" ? e.g. : There were 63 UN peacekeeping operations during 1948-2009, others since then, 16 now ongoing - suppose a unit of UN peacekeepers turned up (at date XX) from say Pakistan ??. They COULD be armed with .303 "old standard" No. 4 Lee-Enfields. This might even be historically LIKELY .. or it MAY have happened in some part of the real world ? -
The best game animal walks on two legs. Go solo, get a hunting rifle and lay up in cover. JOIN THE RESISTANCE - who does Chernarus BELONG TO anyway ?

I was riding my bicycle along the beach but too close to the sea (bicycle was the best transport, very fast, and very easy to hide) - got too close to the water, the rising wave caught my wheel and I was swerved into the water on the bike, I sank immediately with the bike, was already under the surface as I got off it. Then the bicycle exploded and killed me. Was really great. Amazing! - I remember THAT day still now, from years ago. xxp

there's a good thread somewhere about SPEARS - and how it's crazy to swing with them in melee - AND how if someone comes at you with a hammer or a knife or their fists you should be able to stick your spear in their guts before they even get close.. ( but not everyone agrees) AND [=new rant] for a long time my pet thing in DayZ was to carry an empty CAN with me - because when you finished the food in a can, the EMPTY CAN fell to the ground. Other players could tell someone had been around recently if they SAW an empty can on the ground - but even better, you could pick it up and keep it & do like EVERY hobo / tramp / troop / survivalist in the WORLD for the last 100+ YEARS and build a simple fire of sticks and BOIL your WATER in the empty can. But they kicked that out and put in BUILDING OVENS instead. I live in the mountains - just came back from a few days with a mate at 2400m altitude, wandering around there, hanging out and doing nothing & climbing. I use the half billy-can the petrol stove fits in, and the first can of food we open we keep it so we can make drinks, make soup while we have the other still in use. Been doing THAT for about 100+ years too (see? - I survived already) & everywhere I ever camped, roughed it, on 3 continents I NEVER built a STONE OVEN .. I ain't EVER SEEN a thing like that except in DayZ & SAS guides. But sure, it's POSSIBLE. Someone could build an oven like that, pile some logs around one end and you've got a Log Cabin.. <duh> .. on the other hand - for laying low in the bush for a day or just stopping to boil your swamp-water it's pretty DUMB to get complicated. Simple survival stuff first, right ? IRL it works GREAT. If you just want to boil some water, carry an empty can around with you - like a billion people have done in every environment on every continent.. That's Easy, Obvious, Realistic, Simple and Not in the game (anymore). xxp

Sadly I think the answer to THAT is : "since DayZ came out the world changed" I also have no problem with players changing server. If they "hop" through ten servers at the same location to score loot - then that's boring for everyone except snipers. But that has gone on since Day-1 of DayZ. It's kind of one part of the game by now. Everyone knows folk pop up at airfields and bases.. even the zombs know. Telling players what TIME of DAY it is on the server list would help a LOT. A login or logout delay, or relocation, for frequent server changes might discourage (or slow down) "loot hopping" and might help against some kinds of duping. But a server list that actually TELLS you what is on the server ATM would be a prerequisite. I mean it would be a good starting point. Currently I look at the number of players on a server - if its over half full, its Daylight, if it's nearly empty it's Night. <duh> But a USEFUL INFORMATIVE server list that worked 100% would be a good thing. Many folk seem to have problems with the list (reading the Forum comments). Duping is obviously a bigger game spoiler than "players changing servers"
