  1. I am not a member of any private group. I speak very little Geman. 81.19.216.167 : 2300 These people say they are a ' German Private Shard Master Server ' To find out what this means ( is it a private shard? or a private public shard? ) you can look them up, or log in, or contact the German-language TS on the German-located EU server in my first post and ask members for advice on other servers. Also - you speak very much better English than my German, so you should also do well on whitelist EU servers located in DE with a low ping. Good luck in all cases. If your main reason to search is you want to avoid hackers - then it sounds to me that you want a private high-population server, because hackers usually "play" on high-pop. I think the only advantage of a private shard ATM, unless it is your own, is to give you two different characters - one on the private shard and one on the public shard. There are many private German-language servers ATM, with whitelist, but perhaps they are not high-pop at your playing-time.
  2. 5.9.43.211.2602 To find German servers search < [GER] > or search < [DE] > there are plenty. I count 89 German servers online this morning - about 50+ of them of them are "clan" or "join" or "active admin" servers. A lot of them kick players who are not members so I think they do not have big problems with hackers (white list auto-kick or admin kick) Many give TS addresses (when you log in) and/or they have a website. I do not know if the example I give you is a good server because I am not a member It is whitelist - The TS address to join is in the server description ATM.

    Servers restarts too often?

I've been on servers that kept restarting in about exactly the time it takes someone to check the loot locations in one barracks. The personality and attitude of the admin is the most important, and explains server resets more than anything else. And quite a lot of server admins do different things and have different attitudes, at different times of day... most often the reset frequency depends on time of day (it goes up later in the evening) or if it's the weekend (starting Friday noon through to late sunday night) The admins on each server are predictable, they have habits you can get to know. I've heard there is also a real server 'loot ' glitch and the admin sometimes has to reset to clear it. But I think 90% of the "know issue" causing frequent restarts is the person running the server. These servers I'm talking about are stated in the server description (written by the admin himself) to be "open" or "friendly" servers. I don't log in to "clan" servers or any "we kick you" servers..I only log to places where it looks as though you are welcome, or at least permitted to stay. But still sometimes on login you get kicked, or sometimes you must join the server TS channel (or else you are kicked), or the server restarts after a short while - and it seems like it wants to get rid of you and the other handful of outsiders who have just turned up. Then, when you find a server where you can stay and play, you notice e.g. a normal "4 hours" server will go into a quick series of restarts, nearly always when there are only a few players around. If you play in the middle evening - after say 8 or 9 pm, and - specially - totally - if you play Weekend late evening - expect anything -My best advice is : 1 ) either search around and try out the servers, to find one or two that look like "really" friendly servers. (I mean 'friendly" to strange players, not necessarily 'peace and love' - friendly servers can be total KoS-everyone PvP festivals). There are some survival-style servers that are non-persistent and only restart in 24 hours. They are usually quite serious about restarts - but the barracks are empty, natch - it depends what game you want to play. I personally like some of those servers. 2 ) or go to one of the 30-30 or 40-40 almost-full-player-list servers. Normally those 2 kinds of server don't restart except when advertised. For instance, one that gives you a restart warning is probably "player-friendly". And even an admin who has gone to the trouble to write "this server will restart without warning" is giving a sign of friendliness, because if he warns you, it can mean the admin doesn't expect only local or clan people to play. So he's not offended by strangers on his server, .. probably.. 3) the third possibility is to only play the servers put up by the server-providers themselves - the servers that are not hired out to a paying admin. You will find no admin control at all and probably no loot at all, and 150 people who go through in 7 minutes at every restart, and plenty of squeaky-voice kids (no insult intended kids, I'm a 9-year old.myself; near enough), but there's no 'clan' bias or 'my server' bias, and the restarts are regular.. I could give you a short list of servers that are (at the moment) open and pretty fair to the player public and don't mess you around.. but mine are French, English, German, - don't know if that would be helpful? Plus there really is the "glitch" loot-problem too on persistent servers (or a couple of different loot problems?), but don't worry about that - maybe take advantage of it - unless you want to keep a tent. And that should only cause a reset from time to time, not several in a short time. Mainly a lot of restarts just means the admin wants them, it's that simple. And 2 out of 3 "we are friendly" servers, are not in fact keen to have strange players around. So you have to search a bit, try them out, or ask around. * Does anyone want to propose any server IPs where outsider players are given "reasonably fair" treatment (including 'fair' restarts most of the time) as long as they don't act bad? I like to visit these places, to see what they are like? Any suggestions? Or are players looking for servers with plenty of restarts, but they don't shut out strangers or kick you, so you can gear up faster? xx pilgrim

How I deal with Racists and Liars in DayZ

You have revealed the deepest secret of DayZ that not even the devs know about. Before any other players hear it, we must now eradicate YouTube and the Forums. Please put up a list of all your friends and subscribers, so we can silence them too. - sorry about this ... the cookie has to crumble.
  5. Yes Pillock I agree on both your first points. I have written very long texts using emphasis and bold. You have mentioned it before. Sorry about that. I start with a very simple idea, from the feedback I get a strong feeling it is not understood, so I explain in too much detail, with examples. This is a mistake, I agree with you on that. If you have multiple voice channels on the radio, and you are spammed on the channel you are using, how do you tell the players you are talking to which channel to move to? The spammers can also hear that too, unless you tell them by TS. It is more interesting for gameplay and technically simpler to have a single channel and to know that anyone else with a radio cansee what you are saying. This would be a simple experimental starting point and the mechanics for it already exist. I have nothing against TS - no problem at all. TS has changed the gameplay, it makes DayZ SA into a different game. It provides a great advantage for TS users over non-users. That's fine by me. No problem. When players buy a game they expect to be able to use a headset with it. That is normal. Many players are solo, so do not use teamspeak. Many players do not want to use TS for individual reasons I mentioned. I live in France, and know a guy in this village who was shot in the jaw in Algeria. He does not speak except to his close friends and does not answer the phone until he sees who's calling because of his speech difficulty. We can all think of reasons, or know examples, of people who do use headsets for various reasons. There are posts on the forum from players who have tried to use typed chat in close range conversation, often because they do not have headsets, and are shot because it takes too long - in their opinion. I have noticed that and agree with them. Text-only is an idea for communication at a distance, when the player has time and some security, not in proximity with unknown players. The problem of loud noises over the radio channel and the problem of voice spammers is most easily solved by using text, not voice, for communication by radio. I would - personally - not object to global text side chat, because I am a solo player, but this is not going to happen. The radios are in the game already as part of realistic Cherno. Therefore my simple proposal is to make use of them. They must operate over a good distance otherwise they will remain useless, as they are now. Using keyboard chat eliminates loud stupid comments and music and is fair to players who are not in clans, have headset problems, speech difficulty, or are simply shy, or do not want players to notice their accent or their male/female voice, have no friends to join in-game, or cannot speak loudly at home, etc, and avoid voice comms .. Let's be fair to them. I hope this clears up my simple proposal. This is as short as it gets. Thanks for your input Pillock. You see, I have taken all your comments it into account. xx pilgrim
  6. Obviously you don't play with people who don't have a headset, you play using TS TS doesn't work good without a headset. Try it. I know very many people use TS.. but they ENTER the game with people they already know, it is RARE to meet and cooperate with people INSIDE the game using TS unless you know them first OUTSIDE the game. Usually it's a bunch of friends who join the game together. A nice social event between school-mates for instance. We all go and spend some time in DayZ together. If you join a Clan, you get a shared TS .. maybe you count this as meeting players inside the game, but I think joining a clan is NOT the same as meeting and cooperating with players within the game, its just simply.. being in a clan. It excludes non-clan as much as it includes clan members. Being able to TYPE is not a punishment. I guess if you're brought up in a TS culture you find keyboard communication difficult to understand, as a CONCEPT I realise you did not play the Mod where typing was a simple standard way to talk to other players. Everyone understood it and everyone knew how to do it, and many liked it and some did not like it. Voice over side chat was banned on all servers because it was very irritating. People who wanted to shout and laugh; be vulgar, racist, insulting, rant about baseball, get drunk, or hang out with their friends HAD to do that over TS or they were banned.. Thanks but you don't have to sum up my post.. the post you just read has the summary in easy to understand points numbered 1, 2 3 .. To sum up: you missed the point. I know most players use TS because they play in groups with people they already know We BOTH know how much this changes the gameplay. You say "using mute" : That's like -hmm turning a radio on and off, right? I guess? In your case - as you say in your post - you don't worry too much if its the SAME thing or NOT, because you use TS and you (quote) don't play with people who don't have a headset, but think about it anyway. Of course people use TS.. I'm not suggesting even that it can be avoided (it cant) many people want to play that way. There are also solo players who have the habit from back in the Mod of meeting new people inside the game.. and other players who for various reasons cannot or do not want to use TS or do not want to join a clan.Maybe they can't talk loudly at night inside the place they live, for instance.. there are many reasons why TS is used by a lot of players but some do not want it or cannot use it .. if you give it a little thought you'll notice them. Just one question - when you say "in order to communicate, you'll need to find a radio first, which will take extra inventory space and will require a batteries!" Please tell me why the radios are in the game. Not for communication? Maybe to break doors open? Of course they are in the came to communicate. What else are they there for? You want to use TS with your buddies ? - good. No problem, dude. Now let's get back to the many non-team players who might sometimes want to communicate. OK I made my proposal twice already in this forum, its easy to understand. I'm out. Enjoy xx pilgrim
  7. NO they are the same thing - side chat is communicating at a distance.. right? That's what the radios are supposed to do.. it's the same thing. I suggest 1 ) only have 1 radio channel, so there's no confusion and its easy to use 2 ) don't have voice at all by radio, to avoid players playing music and shouting, only have text by radio.. as though you didn't have a mike.. you type.. 3 ) Make the radios work over a good distance.. several Km at least.. or across the whole map that's all 1 ) if you think about it you will understand that "radio" communication and "side chat" communication are really exactly the same thing 2 ) In this idea, you need a radio with you, turned on, to activate your side chat, to send it or receive it 3 ) let the devs make it text only - no voice - so it's not misused by stupid-player voice talk or music and shouting, like side-chat was misused in the Mod It makes a lot more sense to use the radios for long distance communication (if you WANT to communicate) than to pretend some characters were washed ashore in their shorts and with a full communications headset on their head for TS, in working order and never needing charging up, that works right across the map. Of course TS is not realistic and it is unfair, everyone knows that. So let's make use of the radios for the players who want them. 1 ) we can't do anything about TS so the realism argument is out the window 2 ) we CAN do something about the radios, because they are IN the game.. lets USE them in-game for a good reason 3 ) If you don't want to text-only-side-chat by radio, then THROW AWAY the radio.. turn it off.. never pick one up OK? NOW you see how REALLY simple this all is.. or are you just trolling ? xx pilgrim
  8. Exactly - you understood that perfectly. Is the idea of using in-game radios for in-game typed side-chat difficult to follow ?
  9. So what's the moral here? A server with enforced global TS (some are) or voluntary server TS, or any clan TS ...and that's including TS for anyone who joins the game with 2 mates... is realistic, not-game-breaking, true post-apocalypse realismo, and ultra-immersive ? All these dudes get washed up on the beach with their modern comms equipment still fully functional, still tuned in, and still attached to their heads ? And they don't even need batteries? That's highly realistic? So DayZ enforces the headset rule?.. You have to have a microphone to play 'the real game' and you have to join at least 1 teamspeak channel? If this is true, let's be honest and have two TS channels with each DayZ server, and call one "Red Team" and the other "Blue Team" ? (that's a joke, ok?) But using a radio you find in the game, and a battery you find in the game, to give you the ability to TYPE and for your text to be SEEN by anyone else with a radio, a couple of Km away, is unrealistic..?? hmm... in what way? Because, as you know from way back, typing conversations with someone at a distance is called 'side-chat'.. it always has been. There is no plan at all to introduce side-chat in DayZ - but I HOPE there is a plan to get the radios working, and text-only radio would eliminate the vocal nutters who play crap music and shout all day. So let's HAVE radios ... because radios and side-channel are the same thing, right? We are using different words to describe the one same function here. How about - for a start - a single channel radio, and anyone who has one, can type text that can be read by anyone else who has one, within a reasonable distance.. Use no multiple channels, use no voice...just keyboard..one channel - simple. If you don't like it or you don't want it, most probably you only want to TS with your mates so no one can overhear you.. then throw the radio away, dude! THEREFORE : turning on an in-game radio opens the text-no-voice side chat, turning off the radio closes the text-no-voice side chat. How does that wreck the game? How? well..yes - you're right, it would spoil the game by being unfair to the TS people. It would slightly reduce their 'hyper-realistic' advantage Or else go figure a way to block TS out of DayZ altogether (heh!) and lets be really immersive. But in fact, let's be real about how the game works. How can you use the words 'TS' and 'immersion' in the one same phrase? Doesn't that make you feel silly? xx p.s. On side-chat, on my working radio, I'm hoping BadAsh is listening, so I use my keyboard to type << BadAsh I agree with you dude, I never talk to anybody in this game. Face to face - voice talk - with a player, I wait through his 3 seconds of silence so I KNOW he's TSing his mates. Then I shoot him: 4 seconds is too late. >>

Does anyone dislike the "no military stuff" agrument?

What you say sounds pretty correct to me. I REPLIED to a comment about Baghdad. My reply to a statement about contemporary BAGHDAD does not make this into "a debate on the war in Iraq", so don't make it one Dale. This is a debate on "a location set in civil war with foreign military involvement". Thank you for noticing. However, . Go find the originators of that unwanted debate and take it up with them, I'm quoting figures to the dude who brought up that topic, not debating at all. People who rely on CNN and YouTube for their understanding of what happens in a "civil war with foreign military involvement" show great ignorance and naivety, they may be - as you claim - possibly "delusional". But being naive and ignorant is not medically "delusional" it is simply unfortunate. I suppose these "delusional" folk you mention think the UK population during the Second World War were all armed with tommy-guns (48,024,000) .. This is a demographic statistic, - my estimate based on the official numbers - not my opinion, not a debate on the Second World War. And as the Soviet Forces moved in to the outskirts of Berlin, the citizens (4,500,000) were all equipped with at least one Schmeisser MP40 plus a thousand rounds each(total 4,500,000,000 rounds) and all that ammo in the baby carriages made it difficult for them to run for cover in the bombardments.. .... not. I am not debating any war in the region called Iraq (there have been many, read your history - start early; start with Babylon 2000 BCE and you'll get more than half the story) - I REPLIED to a situation in a city AFTER the end of a recent invasion. Locking doors in experimental.

Yes - well dude I only have 858 hours on record in DayZ SA, according to Steam today .. so ya can't expect me to know everything. Thanks for the update and I'll look out for the "zombies plowing through walls ever since they first tried the so called pathfinding" . Thanks for putting me straight. I HAVE been hit by zombs three or 4 times through walls, in the past - just once in a barracks, it was a one shot kill too - but the zomb was definitely outside when that happened, and that was WAY back in the past. I certainly won't bother shutting any doors behind me any more now that I know it doesn't work. If it's not the doors - I wonder what it is that keeps all those zombs howling outside, and running round from front to back following me outside - while I wander around inside? Just my luck I guess? Maybe when I get up towards 900 hours of play this lucky run will change. I'd better be more careful, hu? Thanks again. Good luck. xx

    Locking doors in experimental.

I guess this is a first trial, just to see what happens and what players make of it. to find out what comes up in the play. Obviously you can get in or OUT of a locked door pretty quick, even with your bare hands 100 punches seems to be the longest and most difficult way through a locked door but anyone can do that - so no locking victims in the jail cell, for instance... At least (e.g. at the fire-station .. or any building) you get a half-secondwarning that a locked door is going to open, because you hear the shot or the axe blow (I hope), unless the other player has a lock-pick too. Pity about the zombs... seemed to me they were getting a LOT better at noticing shut doors. I haven't had one come through a closed door since the last update, except sometimes if I shut the door as they were just about entering.. even then it often stops them. It's my standard technique for getting rid of irritating zombs.. shut the doors before you loot. Maybe the zombie thing is just an object definition slip-up that a "locked door" is not yet on the same list as a "shut door" ? Good stuff, overall.. nice. xx

About base building and base raping.

Yes you right, Zboub sorry I hadn't finished that when I posted it, I'm an idiot, leave it at that - I missed out the point of that whole line when I was writing the next.. then pressed some key combo (?) that posted it when it was half done.. So now it's better.. I end up writing twice as much as I wanted but I hope it makes sense. Sorry again, dude.. done this a couple of times and I STILL don't know what key combo posts it... I swear I didn't press "POST".. I type fast, badly, and .. whatever.. just, sorry mate. Beanz to you. Thanx. Yes - persistent makes it more interesting, right, but more complicated too... I didn't even mention that.

About base building and base raping.

There are other threads already suggesting the use of no-spawn areas- such as in or around airport buildings and barracks, as an anti-hopper device. All the same arguments apply except now ownership is included. Here are a couple more Devil's Advocate proposals to screw up the base ideas till someone works out FUNCTIONALLY how to deal with them (no just vague "it would be neat if..). Let's get real answers to real game problems and the devs will have something to PICK UP and maybe even run with.... Someone shoots another player inside the base - what happens then? If the owner is shot, does he have keys, does he still have ownership, can the guy who shot him get out, is the no-spawn area still in operation while the base exists even if the owner is dead, does the killer become the new owner? Suppose the guy who built the base - so he has the right to spawn in it - gets shot inside it by a friend? Is it still his base, or can someone else now own it? I guess the bad friend can still 'get out' through the shut door from inside? Is it pointless to fight to capture a base if it is going to vanish soon after the owner dies, or stop being a "base"?.. Can you take pieces off it? - like door barricades - before they respawn? Does the base stay forever, or for how long before it vanishes? or becomes just bits of loot anyone can have? Can you claim it as your own base, as if you built it yourself ? How? How many players can do that, a group or one only?? Does the base stay standing there shut forever even if the owner leaves the game and never comes back? Do bases still have a no spawn area round them if the owner died 10 seconds ago, or yesterday? Are there keys, or is there a bolt on the inside that can't be broken? Or some other way of the owner shutting the base? Can the owner stash the keys in his tent so he can recover them after he dies, and if he dies do they still work on that base? Can someone the living owner does not want claim ownership? How? If the owner is dead and the base is still a base, can anyone spawn inside it? Bases are usually built by several people? - Is there always 'one' owner..Can there there several? How does he let other players also be owners? Can other secondary owners go on and make other players owners too? Is the base entry open if the 'owner' dies? How can you decide how many 'owners' built the base, so they are 'first owners'? Is there always an 'original owner' or are all owners equal? Is it easy to break into a base or very difficult? If you make the whole clan who never play on that server visit the base, and become owners, then go away, then is the base is eternal because its impossible to kill the owners? If there are three owners and one does not visit for a month does he stop being an owner? If there are two owners and one kills the other, what happens? does the dead guy stop being an owner? If you have a base with a locked door, and then the owner is killed inside, can anyone spawn inside that base with total safety, because the owner is dead but the door is still blocked up? Can the original 'one-owner' make other owners just by 'inviting' them into ownership? Can he do that anywhere on the map or on other servers? Can he copy the keys, because all the owners need entry, right? Can all owners spawn inside or only the original owner? How can a base with 'ownership' be captured? Is it just a place with a locked door anyone can break open with an axe? When the owner (one base=one first owner) dies, then the entry unblocks itself? The base has no owner now but there may still be original keys around? If the keys are 'loot objects' Or is it one lock one set of keys? If the owners are surrounded by enemies and the door is locked, they can hop in and out from another server? They can snipe and shoot at the attackers who can't get in, call in friends (make more owners?) to spawn inside that base? Could someone make a base inside a base inside a base, impossible to crack open? And use it to store loot and server hop, never going out into the local server? Another neat thing - sorry, I just woke up and, all this stuff and these questions came into my head in the first 20 seconds (so my girlfriend leaves me alone for a while until I've drunk my coffee - once we actually get OUT of the bed, right?): BUT A no-log-in area is the same as a no-log-out area (if you think about it), because where you log out is normally where you log in next time. So, if someone wants to attack your base, the owner of the base, who is smart and evil, has 5 mates invited in there with him. They are NOT owners (this is a great move, so listen up clans!). When you attack from outside, you are up close to the base, so his team all log out from inside, and when they log back in - because of the no-log-in area around the base - they are all outside BEHIND you. That's brill, right? That's effective combat logging with an added 200% advantage.. they KNOW they are going to combat log back in right behind you, you poor suckers. you're ALL looking the wrong way. So, this is all to think about, need real serious applicable technical answers, otherwise bases will be a joke from hour one. And with plenty of the possibilities and questions mentioned above, for once 'private servers' do NOT solve those problems. There was discussion about this whole technical area earlier in the forums: partly one exactly the same technical problem of "no-log-in areas", but that was about server-hoppers and airport/barracks buildings..There were GREAT ideas in there...and I think it came to nothing as people lost interest.. but the arguments are already there if anyone wants to check them out: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/207920-how-to-stop-server-hopping/page-5#entry2089823 XX

Does anyone dislike the "no military stuff" agrument?

Yo! Some boring stuff about Baghdad - as you mentioned 'Baghdad' Here's the summary (in case you all don't want to read it and I don't blame yo for that): SUMMARY: Most of the guns and munitions brought into this fight were brought and carried by Westerners who did their best not to leave them lying around. OK - why? what happened ? and how come the USA has more guns per civilian in peacetime than Baghdad civilians had in the middle of a battle? * In Baghdad (after the war itself) during the 9 months of 'Operation Imposing Law': In all, around 7,500 civilians were killed during the operation along with more than 1,200 insurgents, almost 100 suicide bombers, and more than 870 members of the Coalition forces, including at least 324 U.S. soldiers (this is one 'official' estimation) How were the Coalition forces and the civilian casualties caused? : the majority of Coalition soldiers and many civilian casualties were killed by car bombs and suicide bombers, not by weapons fire, or troops were attacked by bomb ambush coupled with short weapons fire attacks The coalition insurgents did have a quantity of assault weapons and rocket weapons, we know, but relied very strongly on manufactured explosive devices, suicide bombers, and on (face to face) murder of unarmed civilians to inflict casualties. The majority of civilian victims were murdered at night by insurgents (using knives, hangings, defenestration, beatings, stoning, and were 'sometimes' shot). How were the insurgents killed? : The vast majority of insurgent fighters were killed by weapons fire from coalition troops and coalition air attack. [Note: Previous to this operation, during the war itself, the destruction of Baghdad infrastructure and casualties were entirely caused by USA airborn attacks, ie by coalition weapons, as we know. We watched it on CNN] The insurgents used weapons fire IF desperate, when completely cornered or taken by surprise (and consistently lost).. or used weapons fire in very SHORT surprise or opportunistic ambushes, and short attacks (for instance on patrols, helicopters, or police stations). Put it all together: - the Coalition did a lot of shooting: The Insurgents did much less shooting. Nevertheless, despite this lack of weapons and the lack of will (or the good sense not to try) to use them in straight armed firefights against coalition forces, the insurgents inflicted considerable (terrible) casualties on civilians, coalition troops, politicians, and also on members of other anti-government insurgent groups (superficially on the 'same side') This situation can be compared - IMO distantly and with caution - with the situation in the Irish 'Troubles'. The insurgents were at no time armed adequately to fight planned strategic or even tactical firefights against coalition forces. The Coalition had many more men and a vastly greater force of arms. (I say this, but I understand this fact brings no relief to anyone who were themselves or had friends in that situation). Because there is a great concentration of violence, death, fanaticism, and destruction in a small area - in this case we are considering one city in one year.. this does NOT mean that a large quantity of weapons and munitions are available to the violent faction. In fact the statistics indicate the opposite: overwhelmingly it was the Coalition had the guns and munitions, as well as the air-power, and all this equipment LEFT the area along with the coalition troops. We know of course that the coalition forces made DAMNED SURE it did. Through the worst days of this 9-month military action aiming to bring peace and Law to Baghdad, to drive out insurgents; you will find that the number of weapons per civilian population in Baghdad was then - and is still - ALWAYS less than the average weapon ownership per civilian of any USA city today, in peacetime USA. (and I intend no offense to US players by this simple unemotional statistical fact) MOST weapons were brought to Baghdad by the coalition forces, and were taken away again. Weapons were primarily available to the insurgents from the obvious sources following the war, but there was little or no continuing logistic supply (to give to one you have to take it away from the other). That was all they had to play with. Explosives are MUCH easier to obtain in an industrial environment, where your big fanatic's knife is the law and the police are NOT going to show up.. AND the existence of these (limited) military arms in the hands of a fanatical minority does NOT mean the population of the city was armed AT ALL, or was involved in fighting EXCEPT as unarmed victims. I am not including the weapons carried by coalition soldiers in the estimate of gun ownership in Baghdad, compared to gun ownership in the USA. Most of the guns and ammunition brought to this fight were carried by Westerners who did their best not to leave them lying around. You guessed it - their orders on that were strict. And note: I'm not implying these insurgents were 'good guys' in ANY way just because they were under-armed and up against well-armed, constantly resupplied, full Western military units. You know that 3 or 4 guys with 3 weapons and total 25 rounds between them plus a couple of machetes or sharp knives can rule a whole city block of 5000-10000 civilians - if they are ruthless, smart, fanatical, and nasty enough. .. But none of this means that there are a lot of weapons or munitions lying around anywhere.. in fact, not more than you'll find lying on a Manchester street in Britain on an average Saturday night. xx pilgrim

    I hate bambi

Jus want to say thanks to archone88 for giving the beanz just up above here I think there's one thing a lot of players accidentally don't notice, one good point of DayZ- or they don't think about it. There is a lot of talk (for different reasons) about "endgame".. and there are some worries that come from fresh spawn or new players.. But if we talk about "endgame" then we should talk about "beginning-game" And at least notice that the "beginning-game" is also a big part of the DayZ experience As well as for instance not knowing where you are (new players), and not knowing how/where/why/when the zombies are dangerous .; or what other players are like, or how the hell to open a can of beans with a pickaxe, or why you can't break a rock with a pickaxe.. or you dont even know there are 'stones' in the game or what to do with them .. you're not sure if tents really exist, or where to find food, or what happens if you put something on the ground for 5 minutes while you try a different shirt.. and you find out by PLAYING.. that's all GREAT .. its brilliant, and (hehe) you also find out by PLAYING what happens if you try to ask another player for advice.. (well... a LOT of things could happen) and this is just the new players. The experienced players who respawn KNOW what kind of stuff they are facing and know many techniques for surviving they need for that first "beginning-game" section. It's not a walkover. BUT I just wanted to say its a BIG and important and exciting and fun part of the game, and DANGEROUS and can be very difficult too.. I died last week and got killed 15 times in 2 days before I had enough stuff to eat and drink and defend myself - firstly, there were no axes anywhere.. and I found out (just last week after a few hundred hours of playing) how many things you CANT open a can of beans with... no - the garden hoe does not open beans, and also the HAMMER does NOT open beans, (but if I was starving IRL I bet I could open a can of beanz with a hammer like that, I swear..) so for the first time I gave it a try, then passed out from starvation. Can you open beanz with a hacksaw, I dont know yet... bet you can't. So after a while I made it back to being BIG and BAD with all my stuff and a good gun and an axe and a stone to sharpen it with, and ammo and good camo waterproof clothes, and enough local knowledge to go looking for heli crashes, and I sat on hills and watched how many people spawn in, in teams of 2 or 3 at the different baracks, all racing to get there first after a restart.. I think maybe players keep lists and have 'restart-game-plans' set out to get through a max number in the shortest time .. and watched them kill each other etc.. I was back in the NORMAL part of the game where the experienced players live nearly all the time, and they discuss "endgame" on the forums.. I've nothing against that, I'm right in the middle of being an experienced player too. but for me endgame is just what happens every day and you dont need a "BFG big endgame weapon" to get there. In fact - a shotgun is a bloody good way to get someone straight to their "endgame" real quick. I'm impressed by the shotgun! , and I notice more and more players are getting the shotgun message too, and I THINK fewer diehards still NEED their assault rifles.. (but maybe they have a different game to play I guess, which is OK by me) But - in all this - the first days, the first hours (whatever) after you come back to life on the beach (or lord-knows where) that all gets forgotten.. BUT ts a WHOLE game in itself, and one of the IMPORTANT things that marks out DayZ from many other games,..it doesn't matter if it's your first time or your 500th time respawning. You're in a whole complete gameplay situation which is far (can be a LONG way) from the 'normal' middle-game. So there are 'bambies' who respawn often and LIVE in that part of the game.. in that gameplay they stand a good chance of meeting other players, just wandering up the coast road, or running through already looted barns, or colllecting apples. .. it can be much better than trying to talk to someone anywhere near an airfield. In fact there are a million reasons why the beginning-game can be MORE interesting and much more OPEN ENDED than the mid-game.. so no one should knock it. Maybe you have technical reasons to make game comments.. but to say "bambies piss me off" is missing a BIG point about DayZ. I said this already - I just wanted to point out that if you spawned in like in most FPS, ready for battle.. DayZ woud be about 70% - 80% less interesting right from GO. f you're a 'serious' player you tend to forget that there are people who LIVE there around the beach and the coast road, and ALL KINDS of stuf goes on.. Tomorrow or the day after theyll still be running up wearing a torn shirt saying "Hey dude, Hi.. what you all doing? do you want to sing a song with me?" ..or .. all knds of stuff... or "lets see if we can stay alive just eating apples.. hey some dude stole our pile of apples..." or "come to the prayer meeting" and .. whatever... or "put down your AKs and your axes all of you or I'll punch you to death", or "help! some bad guys are chasing me" ya know... ALL that shouldnt be missed out on.. a lot of it may be crazy, but we are all DayZ players right?.. so none of us is much more or less crazier than any other .. Having an AK AND a sniper rifle doesnt make you SANE... it doesn't even make you more experienced than the guy who has raw meat but no fire and he's asking for antibiotics he can trade you for 10 books and some worms he's found. In real life some folk are Special Services and IRL some folk are street clowns, ya know?... They are ALL in the game when it starts... also, some street clowns have good points to make. don't miss out on them. .. (Like - There are no starving street clowns with torn shirts in COD .. and that's just one reason to be HERE instead of THERE). One time I saw a dude start reading from the Bible to a guy he met, and the guy he was reading to dropped dead on the spot. True. I swear it's true. GOOD Game! Hey - how come you cant eat worms, hu?.. I had a hoe.. And are you brave enough to give a "bambi" a loaded shotgun? Enjoy xx pilgrim

Does anyone dislike the "no military stuff" agrument?

I can't speak for Osaka.. bu when you say Manchester or New Your City have "little military presence" .. you lost me there. Check out the gun ownership per head of population in the USA against other countries - try the central European countries first, but check arab states too, or . wherever... Military weapons, military formations, military planning for riot or disaster control, AND for insurrection as well as terrorism in the USA and in Great Britain is documented, not dificult to find. Private semi auto (and illegal converted to full auto) Military weapon ownership in the USA is highest in the world.. BEATS Bolivia. etc.Beats Somalia .. In the Ukrain at PRESENT where there is .. < "a war" ??? >- virtually NOBODY has guns. You won't find a house in the whole country that has a military weapon in it..except in TINY areas .. and compare the numbers of military and (armed) police there to an equivalent population in the USA or Great Britain. As for Britain.. it's a different strategy, the army is not cheered on TV or praised constantly (but respected). It is deliberately (for many reasons) seperate from the civilian population, and keeps itself seperate. Largely, its a pro - "for life" - army, and gets a lot LESS hero-worship than the USA froces. This does not mean the British army does not have guns. This does not mean the british army is smaller than the total of all forces fighting in the Ukraine or bearing military arms there, fighting or not. And the Brit army is ,not large..but "war zone" ?? GB forces have been to those, but they brought their weapons home. Some folk seem to think there exist European countries that are a kind of barbaric wastland of (like) somalian warriors-pirate nationalists who live by heaping AKs into the boots of their bullet-riddled stolen cars because the front porch is too full of missile launcers and MGs to move. Where do you people get this idea? You use the internet (right, that's why you're here). Read what's happening, check some statistics, watch (even) Youtube but there are much BETTER sources for reality instead of short rare footage of bloody excitement, mainly do some research.. - here's an an easy start, in 15 minutes you can be certain to KNOW the following: WHICH COUNTRIES have the biggest armies ? WHO has the most assault rifles ? WHICH country has the highest ownership of non-sport weapons start from there. "places with little military presence/ war zone" ? - Hmm.. I guess when the Western forces left Chernarus they dumped a big pile of assorted assault, light and medium weapons, and millions of rounds, ya know, in case the zombie population needed them ?? That's a standard procedure ?? So the Brits must have done that in 2011 while leaving Iraq I guess ?? How big a stockpile did they leave, I wonder ?? Or, are you claiming it's the USA and/or ex Soviet Russia (not NATO ?) that typically abandons hundreds of tons of weapons and munitions when it withdraws. (Some people even think the Russians could do this because they are "crap fighters" - not my opinion, but check it out..Do the Russians or ex-Soviets "fight worse" than other nations? Historically the answer is No). Dude, the Russian Empire and then the Soviets made so many Mosins that since 100 years they are still SELLING them cheap even today.. - and I mean selling - they didn't leave them "lying around". Or maybe you're saying this huge military Chernarus presence was overwhelmed and killed to a man, no survivors, and the USA just decided to let it pass, because they never get excited about loosing a war and few thousand troops.. we all know that. So I guess I dont understand your explanation.. did you actually give one ? Now - if you you just want to have fun with guns and screw the "why" - then that makes some sense. I can understand that attitude.

    I hate bambi

Some people would be pretty crazy in an Apocalypse. Maybe his whole family and his pet dog just died horribly, and then all his friends were gunned down by geared up military strangers who also stole his clothes; and he meets you - a bunch of mean foreign hard-case dudes armed to the teeth, he know's hes going to die.. death will end his suffering mmaybe? Or he wants REVENGE on you bastards. That's immersion in the crazy hell of post-apoc central Europe for ya.. it's HELL in there - and whoever you meet = 50% are zombies and 30% are killers and 17% are mad and 3% hide out in the bushes and try to stay alive. Man! It's wild and hairy. you know .. there are even fanatical christians and people who see ghosts, and military freaks who love to kill - just to watch the life leak out of the defenceles body (the only thing in those paramilitary cult heads is how many notches they have on their guns, dude.. incredible, aint it!). And then also the people who like to kill with spades and screwdrivers because they're crazy, starving and sadists too..but probably just because they like to push the screwdriver into someone's head .. and then we have the new cult religions, and also the really strange reporters from youtube (met them?) and probably CNN too, all of them clean out of their boxes.. BUT THAT'S exactly the FUN of being a new spawn (you can be a new spawn and NOT a bambi, right? - like most new spawn) You,.. suppose you're a poor newspawn - you just lost all your heavy-heavy dude gear that you were so worried and stressed and serious about. You blew it and now you're in shock on the beach in your underwear... so .. what the hell.. ? Unless you have a bunch of geared up friends on chat, you stand a good chance of being killed between 1 and 15 times before you even find something to open a can of beanz with, or even to find a can of beans.. You die a lot. So - You have FUN .. This is your chance. The probability is that the first thing after you spawn is, you die - in one of 50 ways...SO you have nothing to loose except life, you can run unarmed into the middle of Berezino and hope you find a dead geared up dude to loot before you starve (for instance) if it don't work you die, and spawn again and try something different, maybe you'll meet a heroic medic player ?, Or maybe 5 pissed off zombies in the first house? or you can read the bible to serious players until they go mad, or you can hold pagan sacrifices of goats.. you can do all the stuff that a guy with only one pair of shorts and two rags in the whole world can DO .. and do it in the middle of the apocalyptic death of the world too ! .. That's being a bambi. It's a very interesting part of the game. Do you think maybe a Special Services wire garrote would be a good addtion to the game, together with Stealth ?.. so a bambi could sneak up on a geared player and strangle him for his good loot before that player even knew he was dead? Or a bambi gang could run up and get 4 or 5 garottes round your neck before you could shoot more than 2 or them ? Or maybe we should just just have PLENTY of AXES and stacks of BIBLES on all the beaches for the newspawn - to give them a fair break in life ? Or in DayZ do you prefer to always have the upper hand so you can always break their legs to punish them? Why are you 'geared-up' dudes hanging around 'bambi' places anyway? Police patrol ? You like breaking bambi legs? New spawn have nothing to loose, no gear, so they can do what they like. That's the fun of being a bambi and having a 10% chance of survival.. you can do anything.. Hey - try this - next time you meet a crazy newspawn, give them 2 cans of beans and a bottle of water, a can opener, an axe, a helmet, and an AK (with maybe only 50 rounds).. then give them a 1 minute start, and then you can all have a FAIR fight. Just drop that stuff right in the road for the new spawn and run off and hide (I mean - take up position). Fair play all round. xx

A possible solution for communicating physiological needs

That message should be posted on the door of all the churches and all the police stations in cherno: At the top it should say in big letters - WARNING - - they might hug themselves and shiver - their skin colouration might also change - when too hot they might tug at their collar, fan themselves, turn red, sweat - they may clutch their stomach or dry wretch - when hungry or thirsty they may mime eating or drinking - if in pain they may clutch the injured part. and at the bottom it should say If YOU See Anyone Do Any of These Things - SHOOT THEM -
  20. I'm a great fan of Lara Croft too. And I liked Crisis II a LOT, played scenes over and over. And I once BUILT a new computer just to play DOOM 3. .. This is true. About DayZ: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/211915-zombies-and-rarity-of-guns/#entry2123468 In passing, I asked this same question a very little while ago .. HOW can difficulty in a programmed computer game be anything other than "artificial" ? It's software, dude. Can it be 'natural' like the birds singing in the trees ? Or do you mean some games are more difficult than others ? - I agree. xx
  21. Definitely Keyboard Chat inside the game would be more 'realistic' than headphone chat and here's a long boring explanation. First I apologise: OK fair enough - I understand you. My misunderstanding was - I was trying to suggest to the OP that side channel would a good option for him and many others. In the mod we typed on side channel - not a lot.. sometimes.. sometimes when there were only 2 or 4 players around we typed conversations.. ya know.. we got to know each other .. except for one guy who lived in the North Woods on one server and we all knew him and said good morning and he replied, asked questions sometimes, but in 2 years Nobody Ever Saw the dude. Not ever. .. also.. ya know.. people put out calls for help, "Ive broken my leg in Berezino no morphine" (it was a quiet town then except for zombies). One server had a team with a helicopter who replied often to distress calls.. But in general we just got to know each other - without a LOT of talk... If people abused it by using voice on side channel we typed <please no voice over sidechannel> at them 100 times.. or until a moderator turned up to warn them. So for me it worked - I was a solo player, still am. But I REALLY met people and we became friends in the game, even if we crossed paths rarely. And a lot of funny stuff happened that you saw in the corner of your eye - guy typing to his mare "hey! !! I'm here on the roof of the school building Can you see me waving. Im wavin', you see me. Im on the TOP" then "oh, shit someone shot me".. And people would also lie and try to set traps "give me a lift I need a car".. etc.. You picked up interesting stuff.. clues.. all kinds of character traits, much stuff. But just in this thread we got on to Radios (I guess this is why I misunderstood Borom) - which Firstly - Don't Work ATM - Even when they Did "work" they were Completely Useless and anyone who tried them, threw them away after a short while. - So I thought there was a way side-channel could be brought back into the game - text only - even limited distance side channel (but at least 3 or 5 km ) by making use of the (unfortunately useless, unused, short distance, worthless, unworkable) Radios as an ACCESS to side channel. That's all. Sorry about that. But this argument always calls up the 'realism' freaks.. and THEY nearly always turn up with headsets on. The problem there - apart from their total illogic- is that a group of friends sharing a chat room NEVER join up with other people and hardly EVER speak to them. Look at the 1000000 examples on YouTube and you'll see how obvious it is. They are 'playing' DayZ, but they are kind of staying OUTSIDE the game at the same time. And also check YouTube to see HOW OFTEN the loner they meet gets killed (sooner or later, yes?).. if one of the headset gang wants to help him, another of his friends just wants to shoot him in the back.. etc.. This is because they are sitting at their homes "in a group".. chatting, voice-talking about anything at all, and laughing.; and ALSO they are between 100% and 5% playing DayZ while they have a good time amongst themselves. Maybe half the time they're not even "playing", just chat-rooming in DayZ ? Even the serious player police-team/military groups are NOT looking for friends or answering calls for help (because natch, they can't hear calls for help, except from each other). by the nature of their setup they have to be indifferent or antagonistic towards players who are not sharing their out-of-game conversation. If one of the headset dudes gets killed, the others keep on talking to him, guard his gear, meeting up is easy.. "where did you respawn" no gear lost, death not important.; "lets move to another server, I'll go check it out, tell me when you arrive, you there yet?" etc If you want to meet them, go to a barracks.. nearly everyone who turns up at those is a headset team. (There are some hardcase loners [Pilgrim's respect to you loners] ready to take them on, and some beginners, but the Headset-Cases - let's call them the head-cases? - they have a HUGE advantage. That's why they do it. It's hard to deal with them. yes? OK everyone plays differently, no prob. (really no prob at all) But "realism" arguments from anyone using a chat server, just - ya know - pisses me off... Definitely Keyboard Chat inside the game would be more 'realistic' than headphone chat. - its FAIR to everyone, including loners and new players - it reduces that 'headset team' advantage CONSIDERABLY - it enables you to meet people and suss them out before you're standing in front of the dude with the shotgun and and his friend who likes to break legs So - I THOUGHT - If keyboard chat could be linked to Radios - but VERY SIMPLY - then these problems are solved...for instance, you can hear the newcomer asking for help because he's lost and you can decide to reply or NOT.. and you can see who DOES reply.. or you can tell your friend you're hiding in a bush outside Berezino BUT plenty of other players can see that info.. You can use codewords, or shared experiences, or lies, or "ask" if the dude is a killer .. right or wrong, you can decide before its too late. Face to face to say "hello" is not good - it's not something experienced players like to do a lot - its not good for beginners - it's great for KOSers and sadists. To do this we don't need radios with many channels we need radios JUST as access to side chat AND it has to work over a CONSIDERABLE distance. I'd go for - the whole map. If TEXT side chat across the whole map drives players nuts then we can cut down the range.. but ..; whatever Thought it would be a neat thing. Worth looking into. A way of getting the "realism" closer to the DayZ game and a little further from the chat servers xx
  22. I'm saying - in the Mod players used to communicate by typing in side channel It worked It got a bad reputation because some idiots used to talk over sidechannel, have long voice conversations like they were on Skype; play music and shout insults So side channel got a bad reputation In the Mod a lot of people started using third-party chat and then some servers banned side channel altogether None of this has anything to do with "the integrity of game immersion" Text-only side chat IS the SAME as "radios that work". It does the same thing except its easier and it works now .. but it is Turned Off.. There are many people, especially solo players and the people I mentioned in the last post, and people who maybe can't afford headsets even, and plenty who can't shout and talk and laugh in their house at 10 pm - plenty of people would APPECIATE side chat It would change the game for them. And isn't this what OP is really getting at ? In the Mod I made GOOD FRIENDS I'd never met before.. long term friends. You think that happens now in DayZ SA ?.. nah.. You can (if ya LIKE) use the radios as an excuse or a limit for side chat - "you can't side chat unless you have a radio" but its STILL side chat, and you don't need batteries or distances or different frequencies for it to work right now.. those could be introduced later, if at all, and argued about, and modified later.. Text-Only side chat. And the groups who share headset coms are the people talking about "immersion" and "mystical game integrity". No one else. So text-only side chat with or without radios is what I'm saying.. what's the difference? .. text only side chat: Start now, If it's no good, take it away or modify it. xx
  23. Keyboard typing works at "voice distance";; because some players have difficulty speaking, voice impediment, don't want to reveal their sex, or their age, their accent, or they're shy.. The radios... I still have never heard of anyone who had a 2 way conversation .. never.. since they were introduced..; Rumor is ATM (since a while back) they just don't work at all (non-functional objects) but did anyone ever ever hear from anyone who can prove that either way? xx
  24. You'll have to explain that mate, because you just totally disagreed with yourself in one sentence. Still - no harm.. I guess you mean... typing is unrealistic and breaks immersion but chat servers are realistic and enhance immersion.. er ... right ? Notice - in fact you can not stop people using side channel either, except by turning it off. So, to play DayZ without breaking the mystical in-game immersion, everyone should have an agreed chat server and go around in groups talking across the map, while no one else can hear them doing it.. that's SO immersive you gonna totally drown yourself in post Apocalyptic realism. I already mentioned some servers force you to join the same voice channel or else they kick you. (Is that like side chat or is it like immersion, please explain ?) Is a sad thing - after the Apocalypse the evacuees left all those naff radios that don't work lying around, but luckily we all got washed ashore with our own headsets and a selection of fully working internet connections with our friends so we could talk across country, or across servers even. Hey! ..maybe it would be more realistic and less mystical to have mobile phones lying around that still worked in the game without electricity and without transmitters, etc).. nice..... immersive? But chat servers are so much more convenient than ANYTHING else! When you're in a team and you can agree beforehand which channel, which DayZ server, and when and where exactly you're going to join up, so you can make your plans for the day before you even meet. that's immersive. that's so immersive you can't even see the surface no more. And easy. Dude, you didn't read my last line - so here it is again: Simple Suggestion : If you've got a radio, you can type on side chat and be read far away If you've got a radio, you can see what's typed on side chat. If you don't have a radio, you don't see the sidechat unless you're in voice range...OK ? And leave the rest (the details, distances, channels.. the 'development'..) for later..hu ? I guess we're not on the same channel? You didn't hear me and I'm right here in Europe ?? The immersion has echo, feedback, and a crap ping I guess? Too many folk all too immersed at once maybe? xx
  25. If they could iron out the list of kinks you mention, then Radios would be just the same as your "mystical side chat" .. no ? What would be the difference - lets check it out ? Did you play Mod - did you use side chat (text) to communicate - or were you already one of the mystical 'WOW my IRC chat still works with all my friends even after the Apocalypse !! " Did you use sidechat in Mod ? Did you type or did you speak ? Lot of MOD servers didn't want talk on sidechannel - IMO that was good. You play DayZ SA now I guess ? Do you use Radios in dayz ? Really ? At all ? Did you TRY to talk to anyone? Did you get ANY reply? Did you ever HEAR anyone? Or are you still with the friends with the "mystical" headsets ? Ya see - if you go into DayZ as a team of 2 or 3 you don't really WANT to talk to anyone unless they're already covered by your mate (mates) - you just talk among yourselves non-stop, might pick up a dude for a while, might shoot him, between 3 of you one will shoot him just because another one doesn't want to - right? . It's a different game with a private chat channel between you and your mates. There are already some servers where everyone has to be on the same IRC channel, or you get kicked. Check it out. These are great solutions if you're a team ( friends..mates.. same school,. whatever..), or you want to Skype your way through the day instead of going to the bar for a drink, but there are plenty of solo players more interested in the DayZ experience than that .. one of the things you CAN do in DayZ is meet people and get to know people. (that's NOT the people you log on with, right?) But with no working radio AT ALL ... and almost everyone else wearing headsets because with their mates they logged on a relay chat server before they even joined the game ... then what is "mystical" about an in-game text only side chat with some range to it ? Tell me you DONT wear a headset while you play, and you DONT chat with your friends while you're in game - even when they're far across on the other side of the map (like not at ALL in 'speaking' range.. 'bout 15 klicks away in some other town) Go ahead, tell me you don't do it. I'll almost believe you. I'm a solo player.. there ARE some. But I read the posts.. Read the posts, dude - everyone who joins the words "side channel" to "unrealistic" does it for the same reason, because in-game they talk with their log-in friends ALL day, miles apart. And side channel is "mystical" ?? All this above ALSO goes a fair way to explain why "the majority of players suck" .. OP BUT its TRUE the one BIG advantage of Radios that really worked would be to give the few true solo players a chance to communicate in private, and gain a slight private surprise advantage over the 10000% advantage of players using relay chat and logging in with friends, because the "what server shall we do now?" folk are the people who would never use radios, natch... (too mystical, much too boring), or in-game typed side chat... (soooo boring, far too mystical) xx |ed:] How About : If you've got a radio, you can type on sidechat. If you've got a radio, you can see what's typed on sidechat. And leave the rest for later..; hu ?
