<<Log out at the top of Green Mountain tower, see what happens when you log back in>> well - I don't blame you for not trying it

A while back, there was one upstairs in the jail building at NEaf, in the closed room. It was shouting and sticking its arms etc out through the walls, couldn't get out.. I guess someone must have been glitching in there and the zomb got in at him.. seeing as the Z was still alive, maybe whoever he was chasing didn't make it.. kind of cheered me up
-
Go up to the top of the tower and log out When you log in again see where you are you might be ok - i aint promising you anything "not true" is gonna happen

Hey, it wasnt me claiming 900,000 people die each year in the USA at present IRL from raw meat... that was the American Government saying that, dude... that's USA with operating food laws pre-apocalypse, not post-apocalypse.. hmm ? " raw meat is good to go" ?? Try Liver Fluke .. I just picked Liver Fluke kind of at random because its such a NICE thing, ya know ? It infect mammals WITH immune systems, heh. You do know we humans are mammals right along with cows and rabbits and deer, right? Liver Fluke is fragging real good to go.. you def. want to try some of that. check it out. Also check Trichinosis why not, if ya like raw wild boar ... it's just another parasite, nothing special. If you want your rabbit raw off the bone, go for Hydatid parasites. Lol - I don't know how mean bad 'survivalist' you have to be to eat a properly skinned gutted rabbit RAW.. I just never even thought of trying it. And some civilised Western places serve raw calves brains as a delicacy - its legally backed up by certificates and vetinary examinations, and carefully prepared by experts who know what to look out for, so there's really only a handful of people catch Meningitis eating it, these days.. Dude, think about it. check it out.. do you know when a piece of meat is good or know any signs to show an animal is infected with something? Just because the animal is walking about and it ain't foaming at the mouth - don't mean eating it cant make ya really really sick (sick as infection not poison) (heh - off topic, guess you never ate a bad oyster, right?) scuse me if I'm wrong, but you really don't sound like a person who has eaten much raw meat often My advice, before you start experimenting IRL with raw deer liver and being manly, etc - First buy yourself a nice big medium-price medically safe steak and eat it, cold and raw, see how that goes, it's a worthwhile thing to know if your jaw and your stomach can deal with that ok (no reason why not). Then check around what 'uncertified' non-vaccinated animals, and what animal parts, can carry what diseases, what parasites, that ya can catch when you eat them raw.. and how to avoid them (if ya can). Hey - when you're butchering your animal, don't let spinal fluid, bowel matter, dirt or brain matter touch the meat you're going to eat .. for starters, after you've decided it's a healthy animal (you decide for yourself, it's your life) .. but maybe you know that stuff ? Read a mil. survival pocketbook; might help you out IRL. OP is right, myself I'd boil it in chunks, but otherwise you bake it or roast it good. [ edit: Disclaimer: if you do try eating raw steaks or ribs or whatever, you buy them from a medically safe legal outlet, and that's your responsibility - don't go saying someone on a DayZ forum told you to do it. OK? As long as that's clear, then IMO it's an interesting experiment. Don't be one of the 900,000 and then claim it was my fault. And if you aren't legally adult then get advice from an adult in your family first. ]

- Check these forums for 2 years of arguments about it. (I'm not taking sides) -
Steep learning curve - DayZ In general - moving from consoles to PC is like .. the film Matrix .; so ...Welcome to the real world Cmac86 First thing to do when you spawn is throw your torch away, tear your T-shirt into rags so you can bandage, and head for basic loot ... if you know where there is a pool, drink water till you're stuffed, that will keep you going a while.. then you need more bandages, food, clothes, a weapon (axe is best, some weapons are crap against zeds) and a backpack of any kind.. then you're starting If you keep moving in circles around a zomb all the time he can't hit you. You can punch him in the head by aiming slightly above the top of his head (2 or 3 inches). This takes practice, and maybe its worthwhile getting killed 10 or 15 times just going looking for a zomb to try it out. If you body punch them they dont care a lot, but one or two head hits will knock them down, then bend over them and punch them in the head a heap of times to make sure they're dead, otherwise they get up again after about 20 seconds. With practice this works with 1 zomb, you have to be good to deal with 2 or even 3 with your bare fists (some players are GOOD at that, and they can take down a bunch of zombs with not a scratch). I don't know why they do it so easy, but I've seen it done. I prefer to escape zombs by only going into villages near a steep slope - to escape you can run backwards and forwards across and up the slope and the zomb will follow you, if you turn in zigzags and run past him he cant hit you.. when you're high enough, run down the slope and with luck the zomb will fall trying to follow you and kill himself.. if not, try it again..dont run in a straight line with your back to them( anywhere), they can hit you, sometimes from pretty far away, keep changing the angle on the zomb.. as I said run zigzag up the hill.. Zombie hits is why you need to tear your shirt into rags at the start.. probably you will be bleeding even if you survive an attack. go in a house and make sure all the ground floor doors are closed before you bandage. But hey - I'm not good at barefist zombie fighting, I can't guarantee I'll win against 2 without getting hurt. a bad hit and suddenly your leg's broken, then .. they eat ya.. apart from that - I have one little tip, out of about a thousand useful things to know: You know that zombies 'mainly' dont come through closed doors anymore.. and you know that unarmed you don't have much chance against them .. So: I set my "interact" key onto my middle mouse button. That way I can keep running AND maneuvering AND open and close doors fast with the mouse button.. if you are chased, you can close the door in the zombs face with this trick.. easier and faster than using the keyboard. Doesn't always work.. zomb will maybe come through a door as it is closing.. if so head out the back of the house and shut him in, or dodge around and open the door as you're moving and escape again, shut him in if you have time.. Being a newspawn is the most difficult part of the game.; once you have bandages, an axe, (you can open cans of food with an axe) clothes of any kind, any backpack (kid's satchel is ok) and a little food, and you can find ground-water.; then you're past the worst.. you can head out where you like.. now you can get killed in a whole NEW set of interesting ways.. Starting the game from newspawn is the hardest - if you don't already know the game, its definitely hard, for sure.. Plenty of advice in these forums... look around. Also a couple of nice guides here on the forums. glad you could join us.

I heard he was a distraught on-loan specialist electrician - with irritable bowl syndrome - who cross-wired some buttons one day because he couldn't read the Cyrillic manual properly but didn't like to admit it. Many of us are about the same on that. later, someone pressed the "Containment" button .. just something I heard.. only a rumor.. he doesn't like to talk about it much, so I don't ask .. (I mean, about the IBS, natch - he's a cool guy) He used to hide behind buildings a lot, but now when he's feeling better he walks around disguised as a bush. http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/216187-im-really-loving-the-new-ghillie-camo/#entry2172386 -

Can't be - sorry - tangles of grass and bushes, whole trees, would be growing everywhere in the city streets. Look at photos of Pripyat, Chernobyl on the web (evacuated in 2 days in 1986) or photos of the condition of the buildings and environment (e.g. car-parks) of the Sarajevo 1984 Olympics - you'll find this real life photo-info with a 5 minute search. But newly-added DayZ building interiors have a more abandoned and open to the weather look, I think. Interiors decay very fast if the windows are left broken in this climate. Perhaps the DayZ artists have included elements from those photos in their baseline ideas.. whatever, its cool as far as I'm concerned. If you want to know what happened before Day Z, you"re on a looser. Check these forums for 2 years of arguments about it. xx pilgrim -
Hey .. it's happened (I mean just stepping on the brake, not breaking a leg in a collision) .. but.. hmm ... maybe not often .. to find it you have to look right down at the bottom of the list of "ways you can injure yourself around vehicles". It's way down past 'trapping your fingers when you close the car door' You never heard that you can choke to death on a chicken bone? And I read somewhere about a guy who died swallowing a peeled Satsuma orange too fast.. Maybe we should have "You ate your food without chewing it" - "you are dead" xx ed: off topic - And oh, DayZ players - opening a rusty can with a rusty bayonet ?? ... don't you know what you can DO to yourself there?.. stick to PvP dudes. ps - I think we should start a "Bring Gangrene into DayZ" movement. For self-treated wounds (gunshot, scratches, fractures, opening cans) Gangrene is NEAT.

Not objecting to the ideas here BUT: Everyone is still saying "rare" and "ultra rare" as though they know what it means. This has gone on for a year. Can someone tell me, in percentages, number of players, objects per server, spawn frequency, or any REAL evaluation.. what "rare" means? Just so we know what we are talking about. At present RARE means that all the PvP kids are wearing it or toting it.

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/216131-got-sick-from-eating-burnt-bore-steak/#entry2172156 right Jexter ! A lot of really burned meat might give you a day of digestion pains. I think mainly if you're not used to it. But raw meat.. ? I'd have to be desperate to try that IRL in a survival situation, and I'd expect nothing good. There are some tricks, and parts of animals that are "safer" and some that are much worse.. but Nah.. not unless you gonna die if you don't.. wikipedia: <<Every year in the United States, 6.5 million to 33 million cases of illness are diagnosed due to microbial pathogens, with about 900,000 deaths occurring annually as well. According to a multi-state study published in the America Journal of Preventative Medicine, the annual cost of disease caused by food borne pathogens is estimated to be anywhere from 9.3 to 12.9 billion dollars in “medical costs and productivity losses." Most of these diseases come from contact with contaminated raw meat.>> That's 900,000 deaths in a pre-apocalypse full-medical-care, operational civilization..

I was saying exactly this in January already http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/165753-no-water-in-nw-dry-lakes/#entry1678572 Those N and NW areas have whole dry lakes, and have watercourses and ponds already landscaped, still empty, from right back since the start of the SA. They are all dry. I don't know why the devs don't want to put water in the places they have landscaped for water since 2013. There was then some discussion on various forum threads.. I even drew a map somewhere in a forum showing the dry N-NW region.... 10 months ago. Either people said "you can reach water in 5 minutes from anywhere on the map" or they just said "crap". Few players were interested, they stay in towns I guess. Only one or two backwoods folk and explorers know where ground water is located, in fact, and have adapted their play style to deal with it. Filling waterbottles from rain is the best solution.. because ATM it rains really a lot. When I'm traveling (mainly all the time) I move from one waterhole to another, because I know where they are. When I go across that whole Northern dry area I check, to make sure it is still dry after each patch. It still is Dry. For instance - the most obvious example - anyone know why those 2 big NW lakes are still DRY after more than a year on the map ? xx -

Got sick from eating burnt bore steak
pilgrim* replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
Yes this is what happened to me - Couldn't find any charcoal tabs and so I had nothing to loose and tried throwing up by drinking till I vomited.. I think once youv'e emptied your gut, the most important thing is to get well fed and hydrated as soon as possible - like straight away. I ate everything I could find, I think - 2 bags of rice (or 3?), maybe 5 tins, loads of fruit, cola.. on a rampage until I got healthy status.. then after a while (an hour or 2 hours?) I was ill status again - so I did all the same again and this second time I stayed healthy. I may just have eaten a bad fruit while I was stuffing myself the first time - I found a good area and I was steaming around eating everything I saw so maybe I didn't notice. Takes a lot of food to go from zero to healthy. Anyway, seems to me eating and drinking after you throw up is important, get healthy and hydrated status ASAP. This DID work... so the only way it could be a "myth" is if you get sick and then the sickness goes away by itself ( so it would have gone even if I didn't throw up etc.).. but that doesn't seem like a DayZ-type illness to me.. I think they tend not to go away.. like an arm fracture does NOT heal itself, ever.. you have to DO something about it. This all started because I ate 2 pieces of raw meat - was hungry and getting worried looking for a pickaxe so I could get a stone to make a fireplace and sharpen my axe. Figured I had about 1 tree left in my axe, and a zombie had punched me earlier while my stone was in my pants pocket and the damn zombie wasted my pants and the "pristine" stone was converted to Stone=Ruined... oh yes.... (good punch!) . I think it's not in the game, but IRL sickness from eating raw meat should risk being far worse than sickness from overcooked meat. I'm not complaining, but - if you over-cook meat you're not going to get liver fluke, just for instance (hehe)... and a lot of other bad stuff. IRL I'd definitely 100% go for overcooked rather than raw. -

Worked for me. (not this patch - last patch). I did it, the food poisoning's gone. I was still alive a week later. Didn't use charcoal tabs. End. You saying that if hadn't done that - the poisoning would have gone away by itself ? -

I shall ask him about this. As he works in his company as a team leader specifically on a government aircraft design contract, and his wife is an official, a specialist employed in aircraft failure and crash analysis - they are intelligently careful, aware, and diligent in remaining legal in all their activities (to the extent of my knowledge). I would not consider tax evasion would be something they would enter into. They are responsible and respectable folk, unlike myself (not that I'm in any position to evade taxes). I'm just a bum. Hmm.. Almost a bum. I do have a Level 1 (the lowest) NATO security clearance, for what its worth ( ... long ago and far away .. ). The BBC did a documentary on a car powered by chicken-shit, the car was approved by the Brit Govt. Ministry of Transport, the BBC claim - but no one mentions taxes. The link is in my post above on this thread. xx -

Best just drink till you throw up - after you throw up you need to eat some (and drink) to get your strength back, so save your food; A while later - half an hour - the symptoms might come back (this happened to me) drink again till you throw up again. then eat and drink to get your levels back. But maybe I ate a bad fruit meanwhiles after the first bout - I was in a hurry to get my strength up and maybe didn't notice.. but anyways it works.. charcoal tabs are easier, though, I find them in schools pretty often. the 'medical' room at the top of the stairs, directly above the food room. -
Fuel Source Depletion And Alternative Fuel Sources (Server Uptime)
pilgrim* replied to Steak and Potatoes's topic in Suggestions
I have a friend - an aircraft engineer - who runs his diesel Daimler saloon on used vegetable oil from chip-shops. It is the original engine, block, pistons, and all the accessories as standard.. but two fuel tanks - he starts up with diesel, then when the motor is running (after maybe 30 seconds) he switches to second-hand vegetable oil. He has an electric switch on the dashboard to do this. In fact he has under the bonnet two parallel standard "diesel" distributors (the original + one extra) feeding into the same injectors, and a solenoid to switch over the twin fuel feeds. He built this modification himself, drives across Europe in it. Standard old Daimler speeds. No problems, except collecting the oil, because there is competition for used vegetable oil in the UK now - it has a value. we had fun when he visited (France) trying to get used oil out of restaurants and fast food places, and anywhere else we could think of (hotel kitchens) most of them already have a deal going, but they were kind to us. If the worst happens, you can still run on diesel. Also - the car does not smell in the slightest of either vegetable oil or diesel. Also, he points out it is not his original idea. You should be able to find plans on the web, but I have never looked myself (one link already in this thread, but you will find plans and how-tos also). He filters the oil as he is putting it in the tank, but apart from that there are no additives or special treatments. edit: no one seen those 2nd WW photos of Brit cars running on a big balloon full of sewer gas? Gas tapped off farm cesspits (methane). Got to be cesspits around the rural areas, right? those big farms - should be pretty ripe by now.. I guess I can find a photo for ya.. This link claims there were gas-powered public transport conversions already running in WW 1, probably coal gas?: http://www.edinphoto.org.uk/0_edin_t/0_edinburgh_transport_-_buses_gas_powered_during_ww2.htm But WW2 def. used cesspit gas generators (early 'biogas') - this site is about a BBC documentary on car-power from chicken manure/septic tank wastes (1970): http://journeytoforever.org/biofuel_library/methane_bate.html Here is a general vehicle-conversion history : (interesting site). http://www.automostory.com/first-hydrogen-car.htm Also I just heard the French were trying out compressed-air cars by the 1930s. If ya' interested in alternative energy from dung and landfill look at the USA Cow Power initiative, and info on other stuff done with biogas (this goes past tech for DayZ but.; it's jus' interesting for itself) : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biogas#Biogas_in_transport xx -
Do you think Bi will add that little bit extra when dayz is done?
pilgrim* replied to Sooden's topic in General Discussion
I said in another thread ( http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/204242-a-new-approach-to-the-bandits-and-heros-situation/#entry2052028 ) " The main point is there will NOT be any kind of rating, or experience, or counting, or learning, or game saves, or gaining skills, or aptitudes, or points - of any kind - in DayZ SA. Ever. And as far as I know that's Final. Total. Ziltch. End. anyone correct me if I'm wrong? " As soon as you have any one of those things in a game you attract only players who want that thing. The advantage of DayZ is it does not have any of those things - so as a result it has all sorts of players. Some real strange players of every kind. Just to demo how very different players are: Heres ME - this is what I think about PvP and survival in DayZ. I guess it's not your way of thinking dudes, that's my point. You may all be players but you all bring different stuff to the game. One big reason is because there is no game save. This is what SHAKESPEAR says about DayZ (and I mixed in a Lord of the Rings quote so you know what TOLKIEN says about DayZ too): + + + " What a piece of work is a man! How noble in reason, how infinite in faculty! In form and moving how express and admirable! In action how like an Angel! in apprehension how like a god! The beauty of the world! The paragon of animals! " " Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? " " Death does not concern us, because as long as we exist, death is not here. And when it does come, we no longer exist. " " For he today that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother; be he never so vile. This day shall gentle his condition. And gentlemen in England now abed shall think themselves accursed they were not here, and hold their manhoods cheap while any speaks that fought with us. " " I care not .. we owe God a death and let it go which way it will, he that dies today is quit for tomorrow. " xx
