    4gb ram or 8gb ram ?

SSD is the best answer to improving DayZ On your SSD you NEED the operating system PLUS the game files. Your OS package - when it's on the SSD - has a lot of stuff that can be shifted to your standard hard disk - means you have to reinstall windows and then clean it up quite a lot.. windows generally puts everything on the same disk with the "real" OS you need. Easy example is your personal file folders.. you want to move those back to the old HD..Keep your "Program Files" folder on the old HD.. also - in the future - you have to look out for software that installs without asking you where. Make sure it does not install on your SSD.. keep that just for Win and DayZ as much as possible. If your PC is not now already loaded with stuff, (and you have the nerd in ya) the easiest way is to disc-copy from your "C" Hard Drive to your SSD (call it drive "D" ?) , keep your "Program Files" on "C" (your old HD) and go through the registry so it points back from your new Windows (SSD) to your old "Prog Files" on "C" . If you know how to do this kind of thing, its easier than reinstalling everything, unless your PC is loaded with softs,- but with some 'big stuff' software it gets tricky - eg Adobe Suite and MS Office and some others will RESIST.. heh Otherwise, (and safest) just reinstall windows on the SSD .. reinstall all your programs into "Program Files" on your old Hard Drive, so your new windows can find them.. and reinstall DayZ to the SSD.. (check which DayZ files you need to copy across so you don't start with a new character). From then on, keep ONLY the minimum on your SSD. Then - whenever - spend as much time as you care to, moving Windows extras OUT of windows (SSD) and onto your old HD. This probably sounds like a big pain in the neck, but running windows and DayZ on one SSD (fairly cheap and small) is BY FAR the biggest gain you'll get.. It makes The Difference, I swear. xx pilgrim

    Hey... You friendly?

That's the Golden Rule there IMO - if it feels sketchy.. it definitely IS .. so make your decisions right now! ( in the next 3 seconds.. 10 seconds is way too long to decide.. trust your instinct) AND you're so right Toasted Duckie - "friend " is not a good word to hear (or use); yes, it's understood in all languages, BUT usually means - er - anything at all. Like for instance "hi, my mate's just coming up behind you with a fire-axe" Only one thing I'd disagree with you is - I wouldn't wait round the corner with an FNX, I'd wait with a sawed off. (I don't know if anyone has thought of this, but you can carry two sawed-offs easy enough in your pack if you hang out in rough areas, and get the second out quicker than reloading.. that can really surprise the second guy outside - he's heard you fire both barrels together, or one and one.. he knows the sound - he'll come running straight in.) (and - while I'm on it - a derringer don't take up hardly any space at all.. I don't know why players aren't keen on them.. they make a nice surprise pocket gun. it's the extra shot no one knows you've got. But 2 sawnoffs is beautiful) The whole Toasted Duckie post is a short guide to deliberately meeting people in the Wonderful World of DayZ. Beanz. xx

    Hey... You friendly?

how do you spot an "obvious bandit" ? Please tell I've found generally players with total military kit want to KoS because they think that's the whole game But I also got punched to death (1 hit KO... then dead) by a guy I was talking to who was wearing first-day standard stuff. My fault for letting him get close. + I was wearing an axe. I looked in my inventory to give him food, and he took me by surprise. .. well, yeah, my fault..end of story. Also I have met and had some good conversations with interesting people. I'm solo, don't like to team up, but I know players who have joined clans from chance meetings, made regular friends and play together. Stay at a distance - for first contact stay behind cover if you want to talk to a stranger. either be ready to fight (armed), or be ready to run (with nothing in your hands you can run faster than a player holding something - usually a weapon, right?). All players run the same speed if you are both empty-handed, so either fight or keep running, he'll get bored - or something will turn up as you go (other players, for instance). you can talk while you're running too. If the guy has strange pauses while you talk to him - if he does it twice, then you're SURE - it's because hes calling his mates on teamspeak.. that means pretty certainly they're on their way. When I spot that, I kill him or leave.. straight away. Makes life easier. My usual conversation is "hi friend - I'm peaceful, OK? - if you can see me you know I've got you covered. I'm friendly, but I don't want you any closer. If you want to talk, back off a way and we can talk." The guy either says something sensible... and things can go from there, with extreme caution on both sides.. or he says rubbish and keeps coming. The difference is easy to spot. If someone puts away their weapon or sits down, without me asking, then sure we talk.. I don't harm those folk. xx pilgrim
  4. Yep - I agree with too-easy things have changed, 'z true (beanz). In fact I think the stone knife has gone a bit too far I would have liked it better if knives and anything for cutting meat or wood didn't wear down as fast .. and could be sharpened back to "worn" instead of only to "damaged" - the stone knife is just too convenient (sorry - hey, but I always carry one now, you think I'm crazy?) I used to spend, sometimes, days looking for anything with a cutting edge Rags is right too: also beanz - and the shotgun is nice, at the moment Im carrying a standard shotgun on my back and a sawnoff in my backpack.. it's kind of quicker than reloading. + 1 box of ammo is good for a long while. Also when I find one, I keep a Longhorn. You can really snipe with these things. No one expects them and they fit in your gear. with a Longhorn, I can take a long shot at game then lurk around to see if anyone shows up to check the noise, then take a shot at them too.. heh - otherwise just a revolver.... same thing, one box of bullets is all you need When i find an Mozin I probably swap the standard shotgun for the Mozin (maybe I shouldnt do, but what the hell), specially If I have a Longhorn and a sawnoff. I don't understand why people want telescopic sites for Mosins.. (I put it on to carry it - takes up no space - but generally use the scope just to check out the distance) - ya don't need them unless you want to stake out a barracks or a big-town street from a safe range (I don't go that way much.. just when I get a wild hair).. The sawnoff is the best gun for meeting people unexpectedly in buildings.(. lols..).. I use the "T" button to fire both barrels at once, and you dont have to aim a lot.. (more lols).. also carry something to dig with on your back, or an ice axe in your bag.. and there is stuff lying around all over the place to kill zombs with (silently, efficiently) .. so life is maybe too easy.. - easy life leads to carelessness (I hear you) I plant just 3 melon seeds in the rain and sit out of sight waiting for them to grow.. dont need water or fertilizer.. cut up the spare melons to get more seeds - then I move on.. But seriously - Ive been the last 2 weekends on FULL servers.. 38/40.. and I haven't seen anyone yet... there are whole towns that are full of stuff, food, cloths, weapons.. you can tell someone has been through because there are no zombs.. they used to turn up after 5 mins if they weren't there already - or maybe the zombs are all off spawning in the populated areas?.. I aint seen a zomb or a player anywhere across the whole middle of the map.. must be a lot of fighting going on somewhere? see ya around - in the treeline, somewhere sometime.. xx pilgrim
  5. Hey guys, (and OP) all these lists are nice stuff to fight with, but not stuff to survive with - maybe you want to look cool? but you don't need any of that stuff To survive you need: any kind of neutral color bandanna or radar hat, etc ..anything.. green raincoat brown or green pants stone knife something neutral color to put on your your feet (like e.g. rubber wellingtons, workmen's boots, whatever) some rags OK - that's all you need to survive. that's the important stuff... now, if you want to live in comfort, also add: + any kind of backpack, find better as you go along, even red backpacks don't show up much if they are worn or damaged anything good to hit zombies with (make your choice, whatever works for you) anything to open cans with that is also multipurpose anything to dig with packet of pumpkin seeds box of matches As for firearms, scopes, ammo, and mil clothes: ya will find good weapons and clothing all over the place - you don't need to go to mil locations (ever) - unless you specially like the game of fighting over automatic weapons (that's a kind of mini-game, right?) - You find pretty much everything lying around just anywhere, sooner or later but 95% of this mil stuff you really don't need at all. xx pilgrim

Want 40+ FPS in big citys? Click here!

hey qwer4790 - here's your box for 150 dollars, but with a slightly better processor (i7-4940MX) No one understands this? Alienware motherboards are made in Guandong (China) Alienware sign a contract with the Chinese factory for, say, 200,000 units... The factory tools up to make them (this is a big complicated job to set up that production line - you ever seen fully automated motherboard production line? wow..) At the end of the line is a little machine that prints a code, a serial number and "alienware" on the board When the factory has finished its 200,000 run for the Alienware contract - it goes right on producing the same board.. someone unplugs the rubber stamp at the end that prints "alienware" The factory make another 600,000 for themselves - this is THE SAME board.. SAME components, SAME manufacturer Then they sell them around the world.. they could sell them very cheap because they already finished the contract, but they sell them "medium cheap" because they know how much folk want "alienware" .. it's got kudos. This over-run is the main profit margin for that factory in Guandong... they go on making the same board and selling it cheap to anyone who wants it, until a new big contract turns up - because retooling for a new contract - the startup is the main cost of production, so why bother until something new and juicy comes in? Some buyers (any small-medium business from China to India to Indonesia to Albania) actually put the board into "Alienware" boxes, because those are made in China too, and you can buy as many as you like.. those plastic box factories do overruns too.. (same reason, natch) The punchline is you can get your REAL alienware motherboards -complete- for ..eh..100 dollars... If 'ya want you can screw it to a perspex sheet, plug in an external VDU.. and it RUNS out of the box, and it will give better FPS than yours (sorry dude.. ), because it has the i7-4940MX and 30 gig of ram I didn't spend a lot of time on this (because I thought EVERYONE knew already, but I guess not?) So i wasted 7 minutes, and here's an example.. already in a real folding box+screen http://www.ali***.com/product-detail/Best-Discount-Original-For-New-Dell_50011971478.html check it out you can find better - really, I spent 10 mins because I had nothing to do. The point is - this is the REAL THING it is NOT a "copy".. it is the SAME run from the same factory using the same parts.. the overrun is deliberate, standard practice, and it's sold off to give the manufacturer his profit margin. This has been standard from WAY BACK .. It always made me laugh when IBM said "Only use Genuine IBM parts" because the difference between "genuine" and "not" was that the Chinese factory that built for IBM had unplugged the rubber stamp that printed "IBM" on the board, then sold the same parts for half price. This is not new - how can anyone not know it? ..What the frag.. xx pilgrim PS BIG HUG (a handshake grip) TO GRIMEY RICK - because there are not enough dudes on this planet who know who they are. Also for STEAK AND POTATOES - the planet fragging NEEDS you man - you understand ?

woow - you are so right they cost US $3.59 on e-bay http://www.ebay.com/itm/ALIENWARE-Label-Aufkleber-Sticker-Badge-Logo-30mm-x-12mm-099-/111361102722?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19eda39382

just checking some sites for their top range PCs : e.g. Digital Storm at 800+ dollars will give you better FPS than Maingear at 2,200+ dollars (really much better..; ok?) but the hardware changes from month to month.. same Range, same PC name, same number, but different stuff inside .. 'ya make 'ya choice... whatever you buy out of the top range this year.. next year it WILL BE second rate .. Any decent quad processor with a very good graphics card and an SSD - in my opinion - is the best you'll get - after that, the price you pay for the name and the fancy stickers is your own decision I'd always go for a big box - because its easy to change stuff around in a desktop ( - next year, when things starts getting old) - if you buy a laptop you're stuck with what's in there.; next year if you still want top stuff you'll have to throw it away and buy a new one and then sure - mess with the software as much as you like.. don't ever think that an expensive box has the software tuned in any way .. thats not what happens.. these are hardware manufacturers, they throw in the standard softs and spend ZERO time on it. xx pilgrim

Getting really bummed out after buying this game.

justa note: I'm fairly bummed out they put suicide in the game (but it's not my problem, ya know) suicide is for the WEEEEEEEAAAAAK In the Mod, I spent one of my best times ever with 'almost-dead + a broken leg', hiding behind dustbins near a store.. for 2 DAYS.. . crawling across there to get stuff to eat, crawling back out of sight, crawling to a well to drink, then back behind the trashcans before the KoS or the zombs came wandering past.. waiting to heaI - was there 2 whole real-time days (a weekend of about 20 hours ? playing time) and ALMOST made it .. In those days in the Mod then, if you were hidden or you laid flat (stealth) the zombies could walk past a couple of yards away and not see you; but there were a lot of them. I just really wanted to survive, ya know... So 4 years later, I still remember that experience like it was yesterday. That's probably why I'm still playing. Its a GOOD game and there's a lot in it - much more than people think at first sight. xx

I'm no fan of Win 7 either, but you get used to it (what's the options?).. pity after all those years of outside input from independent coders and freaks, XP was perfected and you could do anything with it, guess that's why they closed it down.. (money - right?) Microsoft could have/and still could make many friends by making XP PUBLIC DOMAIN right now.. at least 3 continents would benefit enormously.. like 1 million schools, for instance... plus the nerds everywhere.. (but.. money..right?) There's a good thing I found, someone might like to know about: "IDE TO SATA Converter" Find them on the internet - Notice that they run BOTH ways - plug your IDE disk in one end of the converter and the other end into your SATA board, or plug your IDE board connection into the converter and a SATA disk on the other end. These work. They are cheap. Very handy for many reasons. Ya can run boot disks off them, they really work.. OK. Thought someone might like to know. In case you ever heard of IDE .. lol good luck Chzy, see you around I hope. xx pilgrim

beanz + ha -ha + lol AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5200+ 2.84 GHz 8,00 GB RAM (chinese no-brand) 64-bit windows+game on 120 GB SSD NVIDEA GeForce 9800 GTX+ that's all + 1 or 2 virtual DVD devices + 1 real -chinese- external DVD/BluRay (reads-writes every format) 6 other HDs (various) serial/parallel (Linux, XP, Win32, win 64,... + some little stuff + KVMS switcher to a music server with a 15(?) year old-Live Drive and Sennheiser headphones - GOOD phones cost me MORE than ALL the rest together + another old rack server (thrown away by HP) with a collection of 8 ancient HDs + an Ethernet link across the roof to my girlfriend's house who runs her 2 PCs and her wifi off my same ISP box. I bought the m-board +proc + 2G ram for 70 euros (years ago, out of a heap in a backstreet computer shop, when dual-core were still on the market) found the box in a dump covered in snow bought an OK good power supply (had to pay for it, back then 50 euros ?) bought the SSD - (last year 70 euros again ?) paid for the GA when it was then 'last year's' best model HDs from around the house, pulled out of thrown-away gear, etc.. Ethernet everywhere, natch. + bought the game. so I guess ..400-500 euros to play DayZ very decently? I have to turn down the DayZ graphics a little because the high detail is too distracting when I'm playing seriously.. but very nice (lovely) for a walk in the country with stuff on "high". I stay medium across the board to really play. Frame rate = Nothing bad is noticeable AT ALL, EVER in the country (even on high) - runs about 35+ in town, in fact fluctuates, low as 20 mainly 40+ depending what's happening, but I'm a countryman so I'm not big on house to house 20-player KoS battles. So do I care? I just have to be careful on stairs and roofs in town.. but doesn't everybody?.. I can turn down the graphics if I want to multiplayer town-battle - but doesn't everybody? (own up, 'ya 10-on-10 fans..) What I see on screen is about what the server is putting out. OK ? For me - BI are VERY OK .. I like them, I like their game, I have NO problems.. All this down a 20km twisted-pair old phone wire internet link. And a crap ISP who overloads on Saturday nite. No optic in this region this year. Sure, I mess with the equipment a lot, it's tuned. I got rid of most every automatic and preloaded soft, and run them only when I need them, but Damn (!) I can download Wagner while I'm playing DayZ, and run TOR + VIDALIA .. but as a rule of the house I don't, unless I really want that download right now.. I just have to agree with the girlfriend to warn me when she's video Skyping. Everything I have in this house was thrown away by someone who wanted something better, except the Graphics Card (second hand), the motherboard.. which cost less than the trainfair to go get it (I should have gone on my Bike but it was in Brussels).. the power supply.. which is 200% over and good for the next 10 years I guess, whatever I put it in.. and the SENNHEISER which are TOTAL NEED, if you aint got, you cant hear with your ears (you don't like music). But for DayZ any headset is good. so - no insult intended to anyone with an expensive rig (really, I understand, cool stuff, and I think OP is somewhere on the same wavelength with me too) People: stop buying top level crap and learn about PCs.. OK so you can boast about it now and it runs good, but i have a feeling you don't know why it runs good, you just know that if you spend a lot of money you get a sportscar - and maybe you can pick up Italian girls with it.... but Hey, here's a different way of doing things = build STREET hot-rods.. go round the scrapyards and the backstreet shops, read and absorb the 100s of pages of web info.. LEARN good stuff.. People are treating PCs as if they were TVs.. "I dont know how it works, hu, something wrong, have to throw it away and buy another". That's OK if you want to boast you have the most expensive rig on the block - but you can only boast for the next 4 months till it's "last generation", then they laugh at you - so why not learn what's happening?.. really, dude, it's the way to go.. find out how hardware works, find out HOW you're being ripped off, turn your back on the ads.. listen to the freaks and the nerds.. "hey, you don't want that PC no more? - I'll take it off your hands, and not even charge you for carting it away..thanks, no problem.." xx pilgrim

Am i able to play dayz in dubai ?

ps - why not suggest to one of the DayZ Server Providers that a DayZ server in Dubai might be profitable? Dubai was built (absolutely in the middle of totally nowhere) specifically as a world communications and international financial services hub.. its big, very flash, and very very expensive (as you know?) with hyper servers, telecoms and every kind of ultra- modern techno-link coming out of it's ears. That's what it's for. that's what it IS. It is 100% air conditioned and no-one has anything to DO whatsoever except work. It was BUILT to be the internet/ telecom /finance hub for the whole middle-east, yes?) There is STRICTLY absolutely NOTHING to do there, except earn money. Start with beer = illegal .. photos of girls in swimwear = illegal.. and go on from there.. Just nothing.. behind you is total desert (flat), in front of you is a total (flat) sea, and beach dress code is "strict" (what, no tie?) (you'd burn in 3 mins if you took off even your hat anyway). Is there mixed bathing?.. are you're joking? Does anyone even care? No - because no one ever leaves the buildings.. Outside is NOT a class 3 planet. I know there are dozens of hundreds of Brits in Dubai, and thousands of medium- to high-grade techno and financial support people from all over the world , including translators, sysops, system designers, doctors, financial dealers and their staff, admins, coders, keyboard operators, electricians, you name it - everything you need on a hyper spaceship - (which is what Dubai is, a techno generation-starship with an "extremely conservative" government that "listens in" ) plus people from every nation from USA to China is there, with English as the common language, plenty of very smart 20-40 year-olds - all with nothing (ziltch) to do - its a place where you pay a lot, you get a lot.. and you can include everything else to the list of things you can't do. This is why computer games are popular in Dubai. So being a world comms hub, maybe one of the DZ Server Suppliers would be interested in renting space there. ?? Propose it to them;, they may look into it. Hey, I'm Serious about this. Look at the location of the UAE, look at the range of high-earner people who are employed there (why else would they be there?) Look at the regional possibilities.. there are cinemas, there are internet games servers.. Any DayZ supplier already has the full portfolio of games on their server (or) server-space. Boneboys' friend/co-worker will be aware of the different sides - the technical, the entertainment, the multinational population, the extent of the region defined by practical gaming access (Persian Gulf + Egypt? W.Africa to Capetown, all of Western Asia ..?), and he will know of the legal/moral atmosphere, the competition, prices. If they have already considered it - the DZ agreed Server Suppliers have stayed away because 1 ) It's too expensive or 2 ) the UAE govt doesn't like DayZ (hey, it doesn't like beer or men wearing shorts already, excepting under "special circumstances" - but it thinks CoD is OK, and all the other FPS standards- so ..who knows?) Or maybe the SPs haven't thought about it ??: Not everyone realizes how MANY bored affluent (well-paid !!!! ) computer-savvy new-generation people from all over the world, are passing months at a time in Dubai, drinking coca-cola and watching movies and waiting for their next 2-month air pass back to the real world. Only exciting thing that happens apart from reading your bank account is maybe your super-air-conditioning breaks down - then you die as fast as in DayZ. Worth sending a few e-mails? there are a LOT of expatriates in Dubai. There is a LOT of leading-edge computer power and server space - and, as everywhere, they are in financial recession, so maybe more open to providing or renting out minor bits of hardware cheaper than they were a while ago. ?? Note - Dubai is also fast coming up as a world leader for ultra-wealth-tourism and extremely hyper-expensive real estate (minimum is mega-rockstar/multi-multi-millionaire level), so.. even more loose-end people and their kids?. All those hundreds and thousands of people and no DayZ ? xx pilgrim

    Falling to your death.

did someone say dayZ parcour ? Saw a guy jump do a running jump off the ROOF of the apartment buildings roof and land in a tree, then slid to the ground not hurt.He did it 2x. I was impressed. - it used to be if you fell any distance and landed on a friend you were unhurt, don't know if that still works. Anyone tried recently? best I've ever done is run out of a building-site doorway thinking I was on the ground floor, but I wasn't In case anyone found the body - I was the guy holding a melon Most impressive escape - server shut down when I was at the top of the Green mountain tower. Logged back in and fell in 3 or 4 movements (long way down) into the closed part at the bottom Took a LONG time to get out of that... got out by going nuts on all the movement keys non stop leaning jumping crawling rolling giving the finger and and screaming. I think it was the screaming did it (Green Mountain, ya know?.. strange place) Now i never log out in buildings, and don't go fast close to the edge of anything, except crouched or real slow, ya can break a leg running out of the main doors of the school building, even. * * * [edit] Might sound like I'm off subject in this, but IM NOT - this is a REAL REPLY in fact ..there are 2 things important... since a few months ago the 'collision' operation of a player in DayZ has got better - It used to be that if you were going up a flight of stairs, like in the building-site, the school, or specially the castle.. you had to be REAL careful not to get close to the edge because you could fall off/through the edge of the steps really easily, but ALSO if you stayed close to the wall, you could just fall straight through the wall too.. so the castle stairs were a nightmare.. This has improved at the same time as the "leaning through walls" exploit has got more difficult.. and zombies walking through walls (and closed doors) and hitting through walls has got less common than it was. Also the "suddenly breaking your leg for no reason" while you're standing in some spot on an upper floor.. that happens less (don't it?) Last year, I could be upstairs in a town building, standing still, then crouch to look see if there was something under a shelf, and <black screen>. Dead - I spawned nearby and ran back, and my body was dead on the ground out at the back of the house, over by the back garden wall ..Not even close to the house - AND I came in through the front door, not the back.. so the body was nowhere close to anywhere I'd even been at all. And I was stopped still for about 1 minute at least before I died, I did my inventory (nice safe empty place) then crouched without moving any direction.. and ...<you are dead>. I really think all those incidents have been improved a lot.. say 70% ??? more ??? - but you still hear comments about them. Yet no one comments or sounds off when they walk off a roof by mistake, turn round and walk back onto the roof again.. (no one complains). BUT - 1 ) I think that whole problem-area has definitely got better, And also - players get used to being careful - really I'd NEVER log out in a house .. that's still asking for trouble, even if the chance of DEATH or being stuck under the floor when you log back HAS got less, it still exists. Just be aware of it and take care. Experienced players take it as a usual risk of the game and try to avoid it... but sometimes it happens. AND - 2 ) It HAS to get a lot better, it has to be 99.9% eliminated.. Why? Because barricading houses, making bases, is coming in the future. So those spaces have to be completely water-tight 100% secure - you CANT have a player log into his base he spent weeks building/reinforcing, and barricading the windows (whatever) and ...he falls through the floor. AND you CANT have other players find out that if they log out on top of someone's base, and log back in, HEY! they either die or they find themselves INSIDE the enemy base. THAT has to NOT ever happen.. just never.. If it happened only 5% of the time, you'd have swarms of newspawns trying to fall into other player's HQs every minute (because what have you got to loose?). So it MUST be fixed. That is already be a priority with the Devs to get that stuff perfected - for sure - so zombies never hit you through a wall or wander in to your base through the reinforced door, and other players (on purpose) can't glitch into your base - and so you must never fall through the floor, right?.. otherwise the game wont be able to advance that way at all. And Bases and Barricades would be a joke. they'd be just a free loot place for spawns, and log-in death for the owners, and zombies and guys in shorts in there eating your beans when you arrive. I think IMO a lot of work is being done - and has been done, on this, - it dosn't show up visibly in the game (so players complain that nothing is changing because they don't "see" the hard-work invisible mechanics of the game).. If you check back in the "I got stuck" thread on this forum, and the "fell through floor" threads, and the "ladders kill you" threads, and the "zombies hit through walls" threads - I really think there are many LESS events like that. And posters like OP sandman94 - (hey no insult sandman, it's happened to me in the past too) - these posts now, they are are 'mainly' less experienced players who get pissed off the first time it happens (naturally), or the first couple of times, till they learn to avoid it... Last year it was worse, with plenty of the longtime hardcore players doing their nuts about these problems. Those things were more common and happened a lot, back then. Now 2015 if its a real problem you just check there's already a bug report, and go respawn.. One Last thing - I think in fact DayZ is supposed to "tick you off" - because It's that kind of game, dude. A whole lot of stuff is unfair and it's supposed to be - and plenty of stuff is unfair because it's only half sorted, still on trial, and some stuff is unfair that is not supposed to be.. But even with a game that ran 100% perfectly, which this kind of game will never do (I hope) - it should STILL be damned unfair and full of unexpected "risk".. not just "predictable" risk. I HOPE it never gets slick and polished like plenty of not-so-interesting "perfect" games (DayZ SA that was "slick and polished and 100% predictable" would piss me off more than anything else, I guess I'd stop playing) I hope the content is always crazy and messy and it stays "clunky" and dangerous and the Devs keep adding strange and interesting and clever stuff, and mostly it works but sometimes it only KIND OF works..er.. mainly.... like, I hope wheels come of cars sometimes when you can't see any reason for it.. I mean - I hope the DayZ game-world itself stays dangerous, and odd stuff still happens, and sometimes it makes you go postal ... and then you start again.. And OK, .. so if I run out of the school down the 2 outside steps I might break my leg - I've done it... oh yes it's a fragging pisser.. but now I KNOW that can happen... DayZ is not a nice game and its not a FAIR game... when you say "the thousands of things that tick me off" i think that's cool. if there was only ONE thing ticked you off, that would be a bummer... but "thousands of things" is good, that's what makes this game so interesting... you have to be a BAD CRAZY person to play DayZ SA. - So far there are about 3 million of us Bad Crazy players ? right ? ps - I really did fall out of the first floor of a building site holding a pumpkin, after staying alive for weeks - and had all the gear I needed to be a hard <I-can-survive-anywhere> dude. Waste of a good pumpkin. xx (sorry - long boring post again) pilgrim
  18. ^ Best bet is to ask around in the game (and die a few times) to find the admin's name, and contact him through Steam. How renting a game works: It's like any internet account, at bottom line. The game you rent is on a distant server - you are paying to rent that game running on that server. So it's like your own web page, anyone can see it but only you can change it. you don't keep it at home on your PC (sorry, I dont mean to sound dumb ENO75, just trying to make it clear). From home you call up your account and put in your password stuff, and you see an interface that permits you to change certain things in the game you've rented. Really it works the same as paying a bill on the web or having your own forum or website.. What you see on your screen is just your special connection to a distant server. Everyone knows what you can and can not do when you log on to your "administrator" account (-"the rules"-). So you can play the game which is on the server like any other player, but you can also - for instance - use your "admin" special status to change the description line, or restart the server (restart the game software in fact), and you can put in the messages that appear when anyone logs in to play, and a couple of other things. You just have "special access" to space on a server, because it's you that pays for it. So BI do not know who has rented a server from a server provider - the server providers know. Some admins put their name, or put some contact info in the on-screen messages that come up when a player logs in - for instance the address of the clan website. Some don't bother, which is why you see lines like "second message of the day" - because the guy renting the game has not filled in all the message lines, and just left the default messages. I am sure server providers will NOT tell you anything about one of their clients. Also the server providers responses to e-mails are firstly automatic, they only have a few employees (they like to sound like big companies but they are not massive employers, I swear) and they do not spend a lot of time reading e-mails. They will normally have 1 PR person to deal with incoming e-mails that cant be 100% automated, and he'll maybe have other responsibilities too. So it's very unlikely they would pass on a message, except in unusual circumstances. - so (unless anyone has a better idea) Best bet is to ask around in the game (and die a few times) to find the admin's moniker, and contact him through Steam. ok sorry for this boring explanation, which Is not technical at all. Hope it gives you the idea of it anyway.. hey - maybe finding the admins name could be a kind of quest? instead of looking for AKs ? xxpilgrim

Am i able to play dayz in dubai ?

I guess you already have a good internet connection in Dubai? (I hear it is expensive?) Choose five or six likely servers from the DayZ list - for instance in Australia, and Germany (or Amsterdam), the Western USA, India, (and maybe Tokyo also) I think those will be the "closest" on internet. Maybe someone on the forum can suggest better ? - then do a ping test to each of their IP's From a poor connection in France I get 160 ping to etisalat.ae which is one main internet supplier in Abu Dhabi. (not "bad" for Sunday evening) I used to play the Mod on a server there, the ping changed a lot depending on the time of day - as soon as the Dubai business day started I lost the connection, so it was a 3 am thing, Dayz Mod was playable at those times. pilgrim ps - content is government vetted so some internet stuff is blocked... but I know there are local pay-to-join servers than have all the usual FPS games on them, except DayZ (so there should not be a content problem?) - for DayZ you need an official DayZ server and you don't have any in UAE. Try ping testing DayZ servers.Good luck karim.dong

    Centrally located servers?

BUT if you want to play with a friend and want "equal" ping - wouldn't it be faster to screenshot your DayZ server list, arranged by ping, at the same time as he screenshot his, and just email them to each other and compare ?? (as Kichilron points out - only the ping counts) If you really want to geographically locate servers, do it like this: If you highlight a sever and click on Details, on the DayZ SA server list - there you have the IP, - then any IP tracker will show you the region that IP is located (some IP finders are better than others, look around the web and try them out). I sometimes use < ip-tracker.org > for instance, to find out where my spam mail is coming from. This tracker service gets it right quite often - some don't - and you get a map too. This can be fun if you're a nerd like me. Kind of hobby - I used to get a lot of "really interesting ... not" spam from some dudes - turned out they were located at Lake Baikal, heh (I live in France for frags sake) - when I get totally bored with it, then I just block that IP. It's pretty certainly an Interenet Supplier server IP, so now anyone living within 100km of Lake Baikal who uses that service can't get in touch with me.. but I can live with it. It can be interesting to find out where the crap is coming from... it beats trainspotting. And there are other honest uses. Private home IP's are usually virtual (about 100% now, I guess), so the closest you will get to a temporarily allocated home IP is their Internet Supplier's nearest server.. or only to one of their IS's central servers, but companies and orgs with serious-stuff servers need fixed IPs, so you can maybe zoom right in on the building itself, if that's what get's you hot. So if you really want to physically locate a DayZ Supplier server installation, you can find it, (or find it to within 10 miles) as I suggest. xx pilgrim

Is the double barrel broken again?

I'm still looking for a hacksaw. I think if you saw it off its classed as a "different gun" so I guess the sawnoff sould still work as before the patch. Before the last patch I've blown people's heads off at short range with both - long and sawnoff - and was 1-shot with a standard-long by someone who got the drop on me. Just saw the muzzle coming up and didn't have time to hear the bang. Bororm could be right - and this is the "1 pellet" error slipped back in, for the standard double barrel. I need a box of shells and some close encounters to find out. (ok - one close encounter, I guess). Then put in a bug report - it should be a simple fix as it has already been dealt with once in the past. pilgrim

    Teenagers who play

Last time I got jumped, beat up and killed, it was by 4 or 5 guys with definitely around 25-30 year old voices - not 'kids' voices - and the things they were saying were what you hear in iinner-city Saturday night broken-bottle and and steel-toecap fighting insults (guess you know what I mean?), the kinds of scenes they mainly cut out when they put the film on TV, ya know.. ultra-violence and ultra-obscene language... but NOT kids.. just mentioning.. On the other hand I met a female player who spoke English very well (really VERY well for someone that young), told me she was Romanian, was 15 years old - and we had a conversation about Europe in general. Was interesting. I'm really convinced she was not a fake at all. So - 'kids' - it kind of depends. I can see your point OP, treetop82, but it's not always the case. I might be wrong, but I get the impression it is players in the 18-22 range who have the widest style of play.. maybe student age?... And I've noticed there are also a lot of players who are 30+ - that's cool. But if you are 1-shot unexpectedly when you were damn sure there was no one around, its quite likely to be an adult who stalked you IMO, especially if you are away from the hot areas. My attitude is: Just treat the psychopath kids as if they were NPCs of exactly the kind that might turn up in any game. ..OK, so what's next, hey here comes a bunch of psychos with guns.. everyone knows about those. Act like it's just a different kind of zombie, it's just more NPCs - they show up sometimes. Their AI isn't very good, but its fairly interesting. Don't they all live in the NE ? xx pilgrim

    How was your Day(Z)?

If anyone meets " benjamin " just punch him to death for me,... knock him out, let him recover, knock him out.. ya know ..take your time about it.... thanx xx
  24. In case you're wondering what a "collision box" is try: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bounding_volume probably wont help unless you're that kind of freak.. but that's what a 3D game is about (well, ya know, its a starter to what it's about) The spatial definition of your character (which has to be larger than your 'human-visible' character) can clip a wall so that the zombie "sees" you on the other side of the wall For the same reason - you can kill a player by shooting at the tip of his rifle poking out from cover. Your shot hits the bounding box, the bounding box is the player. Easy answer - if there are zombies outside Stay Away From The Walls xx pilgrim ps Badash - interesting: beanz

    Hey... You friendly?

<< the vast majority want and do play it my way, always have and always will. >> Hi NexVentor - interesting comment in your reply to BiGoDeViN er .. and you know what you say is TRUE because (? ) : - you take pols in the game ? - you ask all the players on your server if they are 100% KoS, and then you multiply by the total number of servers? - because you hang out with two or 3 other psychopaths so you think everyone is the same? - because you read it on Redit ? - the "vast majority" means a lot MORE than HALF the players, right ? .. that's more than 1,500,000 people who PLAY like YOU ? Wow - you sure are an AVERAGE guy (in your own opinion). Where DO you get your INFO on the number of KOS shooting deaths compared to the number of players (I hear there are about 3,000,000 players now). Did you ask them all? No one ever dies of exposure, zombies, suicide, paranoia shooting, fistfights-for-fun, starvation, drowning, sickness, falling off roofs? I know this sounds a crazy idea but - have you ever thought of playing ... a little .. differently? Because it is a GAME and you can do what you like, right ? (ya know, just for fun). In case the idea worries you - there ARE games around that are 100% KoS, you maybe heard of them? [edit - no offense, dude - but there are a lot of ways to play this game, don't limit yourself]
