I kind of think the bugs are part of the fun. - sorry, - maybe plenty of other players don't agree with me, I like a game that is frayed at the edges, and not slick and perfect, so you never KNOW what to expect.. 9 times out of 10 you kill a zombie with one axe hit, then the 10th time the zomb just ignores the hit and rips all your clothes to shreds, then drops dead afterwards.. stuff like that... and being careful on stairs so you don't accidentally walk out through the corner of the wall and fall 2 floors.. (but that doesn't happen much now, I think).. and shooting someone point blank in the head and .. you missed them? or a zomb outside hits you when you're inside - there are various bugs, and some really STRANGE things too, but each one of the INTERESTING ones only happens from time to time.. not often.. it keeps you on your toes and makes the game more exciting.. Also makes it more interesting every time there's an update.. because for the first day or 2 you REALLY don't know what might happen. Like you put your weapon down and you can't pick it up again because it's 2 inches off the ground, ( because of a leaf ).. and you're crawling around trying to get it in sight for 10 mins because you WANT the damned thing, and a player with an axe out suddenly turns up and says "Hey friendly what you doing" - so you stand up and say "hi friend, hey do you want this gun here? I don't want it.." .. ya know? .. fun. IMO xx pilgrim

Guide to etiquette? How to be new right?
pilgrim* replied to CabbageNPeas's topic in New Player Discussion
If you have nothing in your hands you can run faster than a player holding something (usually hes holding a weapon, right?) This is useful to know. - otherwise everyone runs at the same speed ATM. running away also gives you a chance to talk to the guy chasing you, if you want. (note: He will be saying "stop stop, I'm friendly" - because everybody chasing you with an axe always says that) -
Best tactic in dealing with zombies?
pilgrim* replied to Lunatic_fringe420's topic in New Player Discussion
ps - The hockey stick is good for zombies.Because it swings sideways, you have to almost go past them and swing as you are nearly shoulder to shoulder with them, and just far enough apart. KO when you get the knack. This works on other players too (heh). Also you can kill zombies with a screwdriver - it does a straight-front stab, so you just stab them in the head. so there's examples of a sideswing weapon and a front stab weapon.. two different ways of moving - it's up to you to find out which weapon suits you best. For instance, I thought (once) a pitchfork would be great against zombs, but then when I tried, the pitchfork swings sideways instead of stabbing (crazy!).. so I died..had an epic fight with 4 zombies, every time I knocked one down, I had to deal with the others before I could kill it, and it would stand up again.. that went on for quite a while.. but at last I died anyway.. ok, so now I know the pitchfork is not so hot. ( hmm.. if you were fighting with a pitchfork, would you really try to club someone with it ? ) xx -
The stone knife makes life easy Mookie is right- myself I think it's too easy (have you ever tried making a stone knife in real Life.?.. wow!).. but who's complaining? And don't forget the hacksaw - people seem to leave them lying around, they dont hardly ever pick them up, so you have a good chance to find one - the hacksaw only spills 2% of the can and never seems to get blunt - and keep it for when you find a shotgun. When you find a shotgun saw it off, then it will fit in your backpack or some pants (takes a space 4 squares long). A sawnoff is a GREAT weapon. I'f you're starving you can always pick apples. Players don't like doing this this much, I think, but it works. Eating maybe 20+ apples will stop you from starving - you gain energy from eating them just slightly faster than you waste energy picking them. So it takes a while, but you can do it if you can recognize apple trees. They grow in groups - sometimes outside the edges of villages or sometimes near outlying houses or farmhouses. Going north up the coast road by the junction to Berezino there is a big orchard. You can get fully fed there easily - if you want to spend a couple of hours doing it and no one shoots you. When your "searching for apples" and you start getting "you find nothing" five or six times in a row, go away from the area of the apple trees and then come right back, it seems like the apple tree resets itself - I don't know if this is true but it works for me. The only ONE problem about apples is - in the time it takes to stay around there and stuff yourself you REALLY WILL get shot or axed.. that's about 99% certain. Don't eat "bad apples" (natch, they poison) To pick apples, go up close to the tree, aim at the tree and press "F" or spin your mousewheel to get the option "search for apples" An old raincoat will stop you getting hypothermia, even if its damaged, You cool down in rain and can't do anything about it except build a fire, put on dry clothes (but they get wet again fast) or - yep, raincoat. It keeps you dry. I think its the best thing to wear when you come off the beach newspawn. There are plenty around. You can "wring out" your clothes so they go from "soaked" to "damp".. but I don't find this helps much. If you take off any clothes next to a fire and put them right back on, they are dry again. (but a raincoat is easier for a beginner, right?) If you are "cold" etc, and it is not raining, run to warm up (if yo have the energy) - also you get colder faster in forests in the tree shadow,. Go out and move in direct sunlight and you will warm up. If there's no sun (its raining) the answer is still - raincoat. S0: Get yourself a raincoat and a hacksaw and eat apples - and you can live forever. (unless something bad happens to you) hehe xx pilgrim

Best tactic in dealing with zombies?
pilgrim* replied to Lunatic_fringe420's topic in New Player Discussion
Yes - the zomb has to face you before it tries to hit you, so keep moving at an angle across the way its facing - it has to turn to face you again before it can hit - keep circling, or run diagonally across away from its direction of aim; diagonally towards it, and hit it as you go past. Stay in close, keep moving sideways around it. AND look out for another coming up behind you.. The suggestion to spend a few lives fighting zombies is a good idea. You can hit them with your bare fist in the head (with your fist aim just at the very top of their head.. about the last hair up, to hit the head). hitti,ng the body is no good. when they fall down, stand over them and punch them in the face a lot till theyre dead, otherwise they just stand up again 10 seconds later. Be aware that they can hit you from pretty far away - a lot further than you expect at first.. so even running away from them in a straight line is likely to get you hit from behind. A lot of people say first-person view is the best way to fight zombies, but that doesn't work for me, another zomb I havent seen usually hits me from behind. **My one tip** (I use all the time) to get away.. is move your "interact" key onto your mousewheel press button. Then if you run into a house, you can open and shut the doors real fast while you are also changing direction. Usually zombs cant get through a closed door - but if it's just shutting - or sometimes completely closed from the start, the zomb may come through anyway. Also if you are close to the wall of a house, with a zombie raving outside, they can sometimes hit you through the wall.. so look out for those things. Practice, like everyone says - spend some lives - find out what melee weapons are good and how to hit right with them - I've seen players who can take down 3 or 4 (or more) zombies with their bare fists without a scratch - Every Time. - to them, zombies are just a joke. When zombs hit you (if they dont kill you or break your leg), they usually rip up your pants the worst (first) - most stuff in your pants pockets is then ruined, so try not to keep any important things in there if you can. It's a pisser to win a zombie fight and try to bandage, and find out all your rags are ruined, and you have to try find more before you bleed to death.. (you can use your own t-shirt to make rags of course. I do that as soon as I arrive on the beach.) Always carry 6 rags, never less, to bandage with. or 2 rolls of bandage. replace them as soon as you can, always have plenty.. Get away from the zombs before you start bandaging, you can bleed for quite a while before you have to panic about it. If you bandage too soon, they come right back and get you and it takes you too long to get back into fighting stance, so you usually get hurt more. You know how to make splints, and tear up t-shirts to make rags, I guess? enjoy xx pilgrim -
sorry FPS people - I think dangerfinger should start a new thread where I can talk to him about this I was simplifying. - I mean China's per-capita income (world ranking) is 82nd compared to its nominal GDP. This means in USA terms you get paid "nothing" for your work. But if you're using local currency you can pay "virtually nothing" for your rice too, and "virtually nothing" to build factories. As well as Chinese "food" you can also get Chinese "television sets" for very little - inside China, but not outside China. Check what's happening to the renminbi. I hope you understand what that means to the USA?. it means "the USA is SCREWED" (get your finger out). Europe is Also Screwed, but Europe does not have the vast international debt the USA lives on. "twaddle" is a nice old-fashioned word. I guess you'll be doing some "twaddling" when the world blows up in your face. Hey dude, it just did, about 20 years ago. Check your Economic History starting 25 years back, you don't need to go further than that. IF you already understand the concepts a little bit. Its not more complicated than FPS or overclocking. Take a starter course: Wikipedia - Economy_of_China Then come back and tell me WHY you are buying all your high tech stuff from China? then you can give me an "non-twaddle" explanation of why the USA citizen is working just for home-grown "food" + "stuff made in china" and getting in debt for it ? Can the USA and Europe MAKE their own stuff any more ? Explain please. But get a grip on the subject first, then we can argue - I'd like to hear your "twaddle". USA at present: "On September 30, 2014, USA 'public debt' held by the public had reached $12.8 trillion or about 74% of FY 2014 GDP- Intragovernmental holdings stood at $5.0 trillion, giving a combined total public debt of $17.8 trillion or about 103% of FY 2014 GDP. $6.1 trillion or approximately 47% of the debt held by the USA - the public debt - was owned by foreign investors, the largest of which were the People's Republic of China at about $1.3 trillion, and Japan at $1.2 trillion respectively." (USA national debt) " Notice what we're saying here - in 2014 HALF the USA GNP (dude!) went in debt owned by China and Japan, with China having the biggest cut. - LOL - you say that the Chinese working for rice is "twaddle", OK - but the Americans work for the Chinese.. right?) LOL. ps - half the GNP means (rule of thumb), 50% of everything you or I DO to make stuff worth money.. right? - I hope you're really following this and not just trolling. But even the simplified "twaddle" Obama and Merkel say on TV .. so that the public might more-or-less-understand-a-little-bit - is too complicated to bother about, right? And Merkel at least says "WE are in THE SHIT" as clearly as possible. Everyone knows "economics" is another word for "I don't get it" - "change the channel". come on dude, please - if you're into 30-40 you must have noticed that your standard of living has gone DOWN (and the cost gone up) in the last 15 years, unless you're climbing on some other sucker's back, AND all your gear is Chinese manufactured ... so who's working for what, exactly? I didn't intend to go into this - read back up the forum and you'll see my starting point where I said "I thought everybody knew" So If you want to discuss economy, start a new thread and I'll join you there. I'm not going through this simple stuff any more, and this is the wrong thread. This is your life dude - I really hope you're following this and not just trolling. xx pilgrim

Double beanz for that NEVER tell them what you do to your OWN pc at home (lol) - I do BaaaD things to mine .. Phone conversation with a mate: "I kept getting messages up on my screen" "What do they say" "I dunno, I don't read them" "You ought to READ them, at least?" "So I threw away a lot of files that were taking up space and now I get a blue screen and it wont start, can you fix it?" (sigh).. you.;? "Also I think I unplugged the camera USB by mistake while I was downloading and - i dunno how - all my 3 years of photos on the HD have vanished except two of them, you can get them back right?" "Maybe most of them, if you didn't do anything with the HD after that happened - you just turned off the PC ?." Not a thing, but I left it downloading from bittorrent last night and din't do anything else much, except I tried "File Recover" and now there's some big files with like 80Mb of numbers and funny signs in them. Is that a problem?" And so I defragmented it like you're supposed to. " er..that' not tooo great.. explains about defrag.. " (explanation ignored) "Admin tools said there was an unknown file system space where my 'logical E' should be, but the photos were on C..I dont get it.. when i turned it back on it was just blue screen shit." "Well.. OK what you..." "Maybe the disk got unplugged while I was looking in there, the fans are full of carpet fluff or something. But you're GOOD at it, I know. Just for ME, put it back how it was? Nah, I don't have any disks s'far as I know, F-knows - or backups or anything I don't bother with that stuff.. I really don't have the time. OK? Thanks mate I'll do the same for you anytime, just say the word. While you're sorting that (you're ARE good at this, right? I know it.) , could you make it go a bit faster, ya know, hot - overclock it REALLY - 'Like since the CPU fan stopped .. now everything slowed right down, it was crap, and when I overclock even hardly 20% or 30% the GPU won't work. That's the main thing, just Tune it Up brother, OK! - - I'll pay you for your time if you want; I guess that will take you at least an hour or so? " * "Dude, I really have to go skiing with my girlfriend this weekend" .. don't even turn on the PC, find a win7 and/or a setup disk that works (you DID get 'something' with the PC, right?). DONT use your PC, and don't download Free Win7 Black Edition from Russia again, remember last time?) and we'll talk about it in a while. OK.; No prob.Stay cool. Dont mess with it, but IF you mess with it, MAKE SURE its unplugged - if ya DONT, when you open the case you'll drop your case screws into the motherboard. Yes for sure. Everyone does. thinks : [ "..an hour or so" ??? ] xx pilgrim

Make sure nothing else on your PC is using your bandwidth - like windows auto update for instance, or any auto updates on any of your installed software. Tell windows to inform you when updates are available, but NOT to download them until you say so. Same goes for Adobe and anything else that may check for updates (a lot of stuff does unless you tell it NOT to). And make sure your e-mail is not checking for new mails every 5 mins. I set mine to check only when I tell it manually. (I'm playing a game, I'm not at work) And - natch - don't use other stuff while you're playing - don't download, etc.. don't skype.. don't run twitter or .. whatever. .. just turn everything OFF you don't need, to play the game. thirdly - try turning off your antivirus before you log on to DayZ. Some AVs can really mess with your speed - they check every file in DayZ on your PC every time you call the file - that's a lot of files, all the time.. .. etc.. Try turning it off (just while you're on DayZ) - you can run a full antivirus scan after playing. I generally set mine to check ingoing and outgoing but NOT check files that are run on the pc. if I get worried about that I set a full av scan before I go to bed. And run an antivirus scan anyway (regularly), if you haven't recently - to make sure you haven't already picked up undesirable stuff that want's to talk to the net.. or load ads, and popups, whatever, that can slow you down or jam up yor PC..too Also - I guess you have no one else on the same IP connection? like a girlfriend/brother/person on the laptop-wifi watching youtube while you're playing? or your parents watching soaps on the same IP connection? And you connect to your IP box with Ethernet, right.. not wifi ? Ethernet=Good.. I think auto-downloads is the best bet.. when I was a Win 7 starter it did it's BEST to mess up the game.. it decides to download megabites of high priority crud after you've been playing 10 mins.. You have to tell it to Not Do That Other softwares do the same. That and the antivirus settings are the first things to get under control.. then see what happens. xx pilgrim

<< I was suggesting two sawnoffs.. but when I saw your post I decided I was wrong - you get the beanz >> In fact I was TOTALLY wrong - carrying 2 sawnoffs does NOT work - its like carrying 2 bandages or 2 bottles, it doesn't matter which comes into your hand, if you try to switch them, they just switch places in your inventory but not in your hand... the inventory does NOT care which is which EXCEPT - because of this standard inventory thing - your 2 sawnoffs only have 2 shells in them altogether..NOT 4 ... they are both loaded BUT the inventory does NOT make a difference between them. So Iif you fire one sawnoff twice, the other sawnoff is empty too - and if you load one sawnoff, the other sawnoff is loaded too.. .. So you CANT switch sawnoffs .. it just seems like you can.. but in fact you can't.. .. and if you did, there are still only 2 shells TOTAL. You can put one sawnoff on the ground and take out the shells - now you have 2 extra shell in your inventory - but now the other sawnoff in your backpack is empty too.. or you can pick up the one of the ground and fire it.. AND now the one in your inventory is empty too... You can LOAD the one on the ground (2 shells gone from the inventory, and BOTH sawnoffs are loaded.. but you still only have 2 shots, then they are both unloaded. So you don't gain or loose shells, but you dont gain or loose sawnoffs either, don't matter how many you have in your pack.. I tried a lot of diffent combinations - no win... So 2 sawnoffs is just taking up space (unless you want to give one to a friend) They only have 2 shots between them. After 2 shots they are both empty. If you reload one with 2 shells, the other is loaded too..etc.. but you still only have a total of 2 shots. AND hey - guess how I found this out... ? .. right .. that's how I found out.. so this is a warning from beyond the grave.. xx pilgrim

This first stuff is not about tweaking so I apologize for this boring post (you can skip the first half about China - heh - and get to the tweaks) - but its all totally about hardware and I won't join this discussion ever again i swear. In the USA and Europe there is a "cost of production" - everyone knows what this means. In China, because of the way the country is set up "cost of production" does not exist in that way.. in China those words don't make any make sense. You tell some people to build a factory, you tell some people to produce stuff in the factory, you tell some people to fed them while they're doing it... no money involved in any of that... THEN you sell this stuff for any cheap price you like to the USA .. it didnt really "cost" you anything to make. And why do you sell this stuff to the USA? To collect Dollars. China has a big collection of dollars - by now it owns a BIG chunk of the USA national debt (which means it owns more than half the USA, right? .. heh) China collects Dollars, Euros, and Yen. Why do you think 2/3 or 3/4 of your cool stuff is Chinese?.. check it out.. Because China can sell far under price to collect Dollars. That is why USA companies have their stuff built in China. Then USA companies sell expensive in USA so they can have their slice of the cake. - But the cake in the USA is getting smaller and smaller because more and more of the USA cake is moving to Chinese bank vaults.. where the USA can't get at it at all. The USA don't own those dollars any more... That's like saying the USA don't own the USA any more. the Chinese have agreed to be reasonable about this, so they only undercut other markets 'just enough' - they don't want the USA actually starving and they sure don't want to have to police it just because they own it. Economics 101.. here's a simple stupid example - French police uniforms are made in China because they are cheaper than made in France. They are not "imitation" French Police Uniforms, they are Real French Police Uniforms (there aren't any others). Look around your house, check out behind the "USA trademarks" see what is there. ps - I am not in any way anti Chinese. This is in NO way a racist or political comment.. it's 101 economics. xx pilgrim (wont bother you again, dudes.. back to the game) >>>>>>sorry<<<<<<<< ... I tried Grimey Rick's tweak - for ME that Works def. The other tweaks I already tried them in the past, and then put things back the way they were. I was getting - more or less - bursts of speed, then drops to toooo slow.. and some changes made my graphics card unhappy.. Maybe the tweaks were multiplying the effects of small ping changes?, or hitting something in just one version number of the game? those tweaks were sometimes ok sometimes not, So I let them go. SSD is the answer, before you even try anything else. Not even expensive = Cheapest Big Boost. You don't need a big or 'fast' SSD.. you just need any SSD. For OP Weedz : better fps could be a bottleneck in his PC that he's got around [kind of by mistake] (maybe doing something else.. like changing his antivirus; anything) that helped, or maybe there was ONE thing that his particular graphics card, (or driver version), didn't like.. or ... just for instance, the built-in overclock auto-slowed down and that gave faster access to bigger chunks of the SSD ?? (NO - that CAN happen). but I really have No Idea. You can sure start the game faster, But for the rest... get a team of experts on it for a couple of months... see the final report, I'll bet it's not unanimous. If - out of all those tweaks, just one hits the button - or maybe touches another button on one certain GPU, or some other 'external' thing increases your fps - THAT'S GREAT... but for the exact same to happen to 50-100 totally different rigs.. it would take a lot of time and science to prove that... For me - try -malloc=system in Steam launch params. that did me good, .;but for yo other boxes; all I can say is 'try it', only takes a minute. Then get a SSD.

ah - a self-appointed "You should have fun with your gear and get attached to it" teacher guy... hehe - well;, play it how you feel.. beginners in this game usually loose heart because they die before they get of the beach, the die before they open a can of beans, they die for some reason they don't understand, they die of starvation before they find out where they are, they die the first zombie they meet, they die the first player they meet, they freeze to death, they die from a glitch, they die the second player they meet, they die slowly, they die fast, they fall off things, they die the third player they meet after they've been leg-broken and insulted, they die of thirst, they die because they can't find anything to open food with, or they just die suddenly before they know what even happened .. - you don't often hear a first time player saying "I started yesterday, now I'm all geared up, and my truck is full of food and ammo and fuel, my tent is full of weapons and spare AKs, and I built a stone oven for all the game meat and fish I caught, now what do?" but yes - you can either like your gear, or don't care about it - you're the player, it's your game.. but you WILL die anyway, however you play, and your gear WILL be gone. Loosing all your gear and starting on the beach in your underwear eventually gets to be FUN too.. Just don't give up when you're new to the game, because that WILL happen a LOT. xx pilgrim (self-appointed "I do what I like, including playing DayZ since long ago" ...IMO... guy) I DIED LESS THAN ONE MILLION TIMES

Didn't I see you in Silence of the Lambs, and Tenderness of the Wolves ? Or was it the Silence of the Wolves and the Tenderness of the Lambs ? - just joking, I know you're a GOOD person really and you generally make sure your victims die painlessly ( .. fast, anyway..) OP - Lunaticfringe420 even if you have a mike.. be careful to stay out of sight or at a good distance before you say anything. Dont let players come close to you while you're talking with them, that's usually a bad sign. AND don't get depressed about how many times you die when you are a beginner.. probably about 5 times a day? You learn as you go, and its tough. This is a great game. DemonGroover really is a helpful guy in fact (as far as I know).

^ nice... I would have used over half a page to say that and probably left something out.

ah yes you are right: .. AND an Intel® HD Graphics 4000 my mistake. so - he could do as I propose - except do it with whichever card he has plugged into his screen. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-610M.63759.0.html seems like his plugin card is about as good as his integrated card? Let's try to help the dude in the simplest way possible. xx

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Graphics-4000-Benchmarked.73567.0.html - this link is to a page 3 years old already. your graphics card is your first problem try setting it to 1024x768 (or 800x600) and turn off all the extras. Make sure your set of motherboard drivers are up to date (the whole set you get with the machine - update them). From 3 years ago: ... "" Casual gamers who can live with low resolution gaming, disabled AA and subdued graphical eye candy may find the HD 4000 perfectly fine. "" ... There IS a menu on your machine for the HD 4000 but its not great, (but if you find it, it will then let you get to the DayZ onscreen menu). Check the web to find out how to call up the menu, if you can't find it on your box, download it all from the INTEL 4000 site - or your PC motherboard site - or from any other site you can find it. If you look on the web, you will find MUCH discussion about integrated graphics, AND about your 4000 card, PLUS pages of troubleshooting and "how tos" Mainly - IMO - there is only ONE way to go - if your machine is really a PC and not a laptop, buy yourself a real graphics card and plug it in.. any medium level plugin card will do a lot better than this 4000; You will NOT regret it... Serious question - what games CAN you play on this ? xx pilgrim

"you are dead" soon after joining a server. Healthy, energized, hydrated. No injuries.
pilgrim* replied to hathegkla's topic in New Player Discussion
Last night I logged out in a bush - i was there a while before I logged and checked my inventory.. hung out. So I was 5 mins in that place, and hardly moved more than a foot of so to get better cover from the tree branches, in case anyone was close when I came back.. So this is not a "lag" thing - when I logged in today I was in the middle of a field in the open about a minute run from where I logged out. No damage, same stuff.; but just NOT where I was AT ALL when I logged out. But close enough that it's not a random thing, its a misplacement, not a "random login" Was strange. This is the first time this happened. But I have known for a long time that if you log out in a building you risk coming back and finding you're in the floor, or when you log in you fall through the floor till you hit the ground. Normally, as long as you are on ground - terrain- when you log you should be OK because the terrain is created differently than the buildings. Example - Sometimes if you log in inside a building, at first you cant see the building;, you can just see the ground (and any loot lying around). If you move (carefully) the building comes back after a short time. The ground is there 'before' you are fully logged in, but structures mmight or might NOT be. Never log out in building sever, if you can help it. If the server restarts when you're on a roof.. then you just have to take your chances.. but don't be surprised if you die, it happens So - never log in any building off the ground, Ive fallen through to basements and died, or fallen into "no exit" building spaces and nearly starved before I could glitch out.. But this is the first time I log out in one place and come back 200 yards away. Anyone else had this ? xx pilgrim. -
nope - you just have to wait A clue is this - after say 30 seconds waiting, press 'Escape' - if you see the game in front of you (trees, walls, grass, whatever), with the option box |the "continue, leave, etc" box] that means you will soon be in the game, the server is getting you set in place. So press Escape again to bring you back to the 'wait for server' screen - now you know you will get in the server soon. But if you wait the first 30 secs then press Escape and the server is NOT setting you up to play, you are automatically dropped out of "wait" and you come back to the Server List. So now you know you're getting nowhere and you have to find another server. This is good to know - it saves time - because sometimes it happens that you can wait forever with the 'wait for server' message, but never get in. Mainly it it only takes a few seconds or up to maybe a minute.... so this is how to check if you will really be loaded into the game or not. Give it time, and if it seems to long, try "Escape"; Works for me. xx pilgrim

I was suggesting two sawnoffs.. but when I saw your post I decided I was wrong - you get the beanz I don't know why I never think of the Obrez... I really never thought of it - I guess if I find a Mosin I usually keep it and throw away my long barrel shotgun, or saw THAT down.. I know it can be done to a Mosin, but I never tried..perhaps because I LIKE the Mosin, just with open sights. Good gun. But yeahn after some thought about the aiming/reloading advantages on both sides.. you ARE right. I'm going to move over to your tactic. Obrez is a bad gun to meet coming round a corner. ps - The zombs always go for your pants and your vest. They hate those pocket vests ( - hard wearing? - supposed to be too tough to repair with a sewing kit, right? - that's what they're made for). But they never last. I one time had a big pristine stone in my vest pocket, A hit from a zomb ruined the vest, and everything in it INCLUDING the stone. One ruined rock! Nice! - a brown or green bandana would be better (I guess) , the human face shows up most IMO if you're wearing green/brown/drab (and worn or damaged clothes/backpack show up less than pristine) With the fishing net available, and ghillie crafting.. we should be able to make a patch of see-through face screen - even just a square of netting - it's a common enough thing among hunters or various military spotters/scouts whatever. Or how about charcoal from a fire (don't even need face paint) to put a stripe across that distinctive pale oval human face. It's the face that animals see easily (as well as other signs), it's what humans can spot from earliest childhood. And it shows up in the game, even shades make it less visible - but I don't want to wear shades, specially the rain, makes me feel kinda dumb. Current alternative is to play a black character.. but I'd LIKE a chance to put a wide dark diagonal across my 'oriental' character's face. Still - the face bandanna is already good. Clothes very cool ello. Do you think they are maybe a bit light-colored in some conditions ? (not criticizing, just asking) xx pilgrim

^ right As a working principle I always put in as much RAM as I can fit in the thing - ( without talking about different speeds and technical stuff). Plenty of RAM is G00D. SSDs also have speed differences, etc, and size/price differences ... but SSD is VERY GOOD So - while you're sorting out that SSD - just fill up your slots with the most RAM you can get in there. Memory is pretty cheap now, why skimp ? And for PAGEFILE - a good tip is to set it manually to the recommended size (or double it), but set the Minimum and the Maximum to the same value. That gives you a permanent pagefile space on the disk that does not change size or location, no fragmentation, this works better for various reasons. To get (slightly) bettter out of the pagefile calculate its size in multiples of 64. (or for much better info, check out http://support.microsoft.com/kb/889654 if you're really that type of person ). Depending how your hardware is set up, it should be a good idea to have windows on the SSD with no pagefile there, but a (nice, large, static max=min) pagefile on the HD. This is easy to test out.

dont want to break in (but I am, heh) You can make a stone knife you can do almost anything with - just by rubbing 2 pebbles together (super-neolithic) BUT - you need to build an oven to cook meat, which is like the dark ages, ya have to build half a settlement to EAT game ? (I thought settlers and hunters were different KINDS of people?) .. but .. what happened to campfires and barbeques ? IRL Its EASY to roast meat over a few burning sticks. so why a frying pan? why a tripod? What happened to living in the bush ? (like real folk do, in the real world) but BUT but mainly - what's going on with the camping gas? I'm illiterate and have no memory (I think) - so can someone tell me if I can cook with a frying pan on bottle-gas, please? In real life, I'd be deeply ashamed to have to do this.. REALLY carry a frying pan and a camping gas setup.. ? jeeezzz .. ( I'm just gonna grow pumpkins is all, in the rain, and juggle my stone knives ) seriously - camping gas anyone ? tried it ? xx pilgrim ps - what happens if ya eat earthworms? (99.95% pure protein, the food of the future) -
(edited a bit, to get it right) ah true.. - I forgot to say above, I put toggle freelook onto the " * " key on the number pad - one press it's on, one press again and it's off. And toggle "first person/3d person" I put on "Number pad ENTER " - so I've got everything there that I need for movement and view except "lie down" which is still where it always was. For me, I think of freelook as like freezing your body motionless - Having Freelook and 1st/3d view close together (and single press) is useful when you're taking cover or hiding in bushes for instance.. Get in the bush or behind a wall and do an (almost) 360 around you, and also- without moving look at yourself from all around, see what is showing - you can do any of this quickly and switch around fast, just with one hand. [edit - I put the "take aim" (look down sights) toggle on number pad "0", and also have it on the Mouse Right Button. With this setup you can do almost any movement and scan fast, take cover, aim, change 1st/3d, zoom in or our - zoom in and zoom out are already on number pad "+" and "- " standard, if I remember correctly. If they aren't, put them there. i just ADD these key-presses on top of the standard ones that already do that action, unless they conflict with something I need.. Using the number pad makes this fairly easy.. I guess you could do the same on the left side of the keyboard, around the standard movement keys, but it might take a little more thought (I never tried it) I was experimenting with a one key press crouch, and double press same key to lie down, then the key for fast forward did double press for "stand up and fast forward" in one movement, so you could go from lying flat into a forward spring with a double tap.. but this made the 'normal forward/fast forward' more complicated for fingering, so I didnt check it out much.. there was a kind of hesitation in the double tap to "stand up from lying and start running".. the way I did it above worked better. (and generally I don't lie down a lot when things are urgent, so I have time to move my hand down the keyboard.) Only things like, "Lie down" "map" "reload" are still in the middle of the board. In action, I have my fingers placed where I need them, and moving only one finger to the next key gets me all the other actions I need. Main thing is to get used to the keys, right? Once you're happy, don't ever change them. but Yes, Sheeeee..t - before I changed anything, when I started playing SA - I remember the first time I must have hit freelook without knowing how I did that, and I couldn't work out why I could only run in a straight line.; it was ... very worrying, heh. I panic-logged after about 15 seconds. The experienced ARMA players seem very happy with the keys as they are, standard setup - but for me ONE double tap is as far as I will go to get any action, anything more complicated than that - forget it.. The DayZ key binding system is very resilient - you can put quite complicated sequences onto on key if you want to .. you can change everything - it's WORTH setting up the keyboard how you like it. And Definitely if there's some keypress you DONT like, then change it.. save your life. xx

In key bindings - 'Look Down Left' and 'Look Down Right' are the movements that actually make you look back over your left or right shoulder - set those 2 bindings to any keys you like. try it out I use my number pad for movement (I'm left handed), so I put those two movements onto keys 1 and 3 on the number pad then I use 8 and 5 for Forward / Back (double tap 8 for fast forward) 4 and 6 for strafe left/strafe right, and 7 and 9 for 'Look Left' and 'Look Right' (those make you look about 45° to the left side or right side) Also keypad 2 for crouch, double tap 2 for stand together with the mouse, that's all I need so you can be running with one key pressed down, and at the same time press one more key (next to it) with the same hand - to look back while you're running, then move one finger to look sideways while you're running, etc.. makes life easy - ps - I moved "interact" to the mouswheel press button - this makes it a whole damn sight easier opening and shutting doors while you're changing direction (running), and easy to snatch loot too xx pilgrim
