It is only gear that really hurts in the game, so zombies attack your gear. If all they could do was break bones or make you bleed, then each zombie attack you would either survive or die and all your gear would be always safe. That would be pointless and get old really quick. You survive in DayZ because of your gear. If you have a raincoat you don't get wet, if you have beans you don't get hungry, with a gun you can defend yourself, with matches and an axe you make fire. The zombs are there to destroy that stuff. This is what makes you afraid of zombies. think about it.

did you try renaming D3DX9_41.dll to xxD3DX9_41.dll then starting the game and seeing what error comes up ?? [guess you know how to get into your system if you bluescreen right? that's the worst can happen] xx I have D3DX9_41.dll in the same folder as you. Mine is product version 9.26.952.2844 it is owned by Administrators. It is not 'read only' and not 'hidden' all the permissions for System and Adminstrators are set ON except Special you run as Admin, right ? As a rule of thumb, if a Million people run this game, and only 2 people have a problem with this file - the problem is local (means something is wrong with your setup) xx -

If it worked previously "a couple of weeks ago" you could look through your system file dates and see what has changed since that time. or rollback to a system restore before that date. ( also, in you list of actions you don't mention updating your graphics card drivers ?? - could be solution could be cause) "checked for corruption" ?? you used https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833 try your onboard graphics card instead of your plug in? change the name of the dll and then see if it's listed as missing when you start DayZ or if the game starts anyway ?? (or if you bluescreen at windows start, etc) if you're up to it, run WinDbg - you're an IT person ( https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/hh852365 ) to get a handle on where the launch goes wrong and also maybe register a bug report ? http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=23255 - one other player listed this problem sounds kinda interesting -
Here is the WARNING you want At ANY MOMENT during development .. You may loose your tents. Stuff might vanish. You may loose your gear you may loose some of your clothes. You may loose all of them. Your can of beans may turn into a rabbit. Things you never looted might turn up in your pockets. You might fall through the ground. you might die and never know why. Yo may respawn for NO reason, You may respawn wearing a cowboy hat and a dress. You may change color, height, haircut and sex. your boots might become invisible. the server might start, stop, kick you out or squash you flat. Any of this or ALL of it may happen at ANY MOMENT during development. Probably most of it WILL happen. Several times. LOTS of times. Of course it WILL. OK - now you have been warned and you have your LEAD TIME. Now you know what is going to happen during development. I don't mind my tents vanishing because I expect it. But my last can of beans turning into a rabbit made me RAGE, dude And OH Jesus my Pumpkin disappeared !!! (sweet kind DayZ players - please share this difficult moment with me. thank you.) xx

Why is this thread still here ? IMO MadWookie is right to deskpalm I blame the devs 50% and the players 50% : Everybody is playing the DayZ they think they are playing but there are not enough Mario Power Crystals xx

the reason for the temporary change back to the old loot system, is that some servers were spawning 20,000 items LESS than they should This explains why some players found the new loot system was OK and others found there was no loot this is in the Status Report after that - the new loot system will come back soon and go on being tested and tweaked in game, to distribute the loot spawn, avoid loot clumping, ensure a reasonable distribution of items. everyone knows this will take a while - apart from the technical stuff, it's not easy to say what a million players will do across hundreds of servers, so it will take plenty of experiment and fine tuning to set loot types and levels and respawn rates right ? -
good to see someone keen on gameplay 1) Get binocs - go up on a hill and scan far away forest. You see sticks with no foliage or branches, you see flat green "grass". you SEE trucks and tents clearly. Try it. This is a dayz graphics property - use it, abuse it, do what you like with it: it is how the game works. In an aircraft, to spot tents and vehicles, you just have to look from high enough. the trees are invisible, the gear is visible. 2) as for "badmins"... they are in fact typical "admins" not special people.. When you played the mod - if there was one heli on a server, did YOU know any admin who would NOT own it? WHY would they not get the heli for themselves? Admins who ownd the heli were more than 90% of ALL admins. And they HATE to loose it - so admins VERY OFTEN kick players who mess with "their" heli. They are the majority. They do not consider that they are "badmins". they think you are breaking the game because you found their camp. You get a bad name for doing that. In the vanilla mod this was typical normal behavior to protect the admin's helicopter. I hunted helicopters (because in the "helicopter endgame" you can't do much else) and its perfectly normal to have a furious admin kick you because you wasted his chopper. (lol) Usually you were lucky if they didn't kick you first, to empty the server just so they could fly it safely. (I'm easy about all that, never been my problem, ya know.. it's just how it is) Maybe you play on a private hive where it will be the clan who has the helicopter - and the admin is "only" the clan boss who decides what to do with the heli. In that case you get kicked from the clan when the arguments happen, not just from the server. Same thing I guess? Anyway FlimFlamm - check out what I said about trees. Its a simple graphics thing with DayZ. Just a parameter. you need binoculars or a scope + a hill. A helicopter is easier and a lot faster. SO - for aircraft in dayz there are two important considerations: a ) the ways admins act on Public servers and the structures in place to make sure they act correctly (there are threads about this) - [unresolved] b ) the way middle-distance and far-distance textures are rendered in DayZ (there are threads about this too) - [unresolved] Nobody mentioned these two KEY gameplay elements so far in this thread. but if you want gameplay you have to deal with these things. right ? xx

There will be one helicopter per server The local admins will own the helicopter They will stop other players from messing with it Usually by kicking any players who try They will use it to spot tents and vehicles And loot and destroy them Usually while the owners are logged off If you object to this endgame you will be kicked This is the endgame, legal or not, like it or not. good call Why would you do anything else ?

In Real Life First rule of flying NEVER take one of these ANYWHERE NEAR a guy with an AK you got that ? Ask any pilot.

I'm happy to see that the large majority of players do not want armed aircraft in the game. BUT Probably most players do not realize the real problem of aircraft: Because of the game textures, as soon as you are at altitude the trees turn into naked sticks, the grass flattens to smooth green, you can see tents players and vehicles easily from a distance. There is no visual cover from the air, it is a graphical weakness of dayz This means anyone in an aircraft has a power exactly like wallhack. Tents and equipment can NOT be hidden. Everyone who played the mod knows this

He meant that in war you get a shitload of people with smashed bones and big holes, and you can patch, saw, hammer, cut open and stitch shut as many as you like for as long as you want all day ever day - and no one expects them to live so you got no problem when they die - and if you do this for long enough you start to know how the human body works and all the different ways you can kill a patient faster than his wounds can, and at last you begin to avoid killing patients yourself and you might eventually help one or two of them. And you also learn when there's no point in even trying, because you tried it already and it didn't work. That's Hippocrates on surgery, without going into infection and convalescence. His main rule was "do no harm" Now how do you apply that to aircraft maintenance ? xx

Type exactly this into your browser search bar: "The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe for more detail." when I use this to search I get things like : << This is being caused by a missing C++ redistributable, vcredrist_x86.exe. Fix: 1. Update windows, including security updates. or 2. Manually download and install the appropriate version of vcredrist_x86.exe (link below). Link to site: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26347 It is the 3rd file in that list. >> Different sites seem to agree this C++ redistributable is the problem. 1 ) Update windows. 2 ) Check DayZ game integrity using Steam. .. I guess that should fix it... 3 ) If you still have the problem download the correct C++ redistributable by hand (as long as you can work out which C++ redistrib is the good one for your system) xx [This answer will cost you 35 credits. Go into Electro and give the cash to the zombie with a white carnation in its buttonhole outside the firestation. If the answer is not correct, only pay the zombie 23 credits]

Yes I grow pumpkins from seeds. If the server does not restart before they grow, it is ok. Except: You have to pick up the pumpkins left on the ground as soon as you harvest the plant, if you do not pick them up they despawn in 5-10 seconds. If you pick them up and drop them again they stay on the server for 20 mins, then they despawn. So there is no point in planting more than 2 or 3 seeds. There are no seeds in crops anymore (glitch) so you cannot collect seeds to grow more crops. xx -

I agree - Aggathor = good guy, very interesting and helpful. IMO he doesn't prove his idea. It's an interesting theory, but not proved. If it was true, I think word would get around by now that the fifth or sixth time you had a stand-up zombie fight, you always died.. Players would have noticed. Or maybe the devs are more evil than we think. -

Aggathor = good guy. Interesting research, flawed: At 0:54 Aggathor says there is a 4th primary stat, the 'bone condition stat' which doesn't ever regenerate He demonstrates 1 shot to the arm which does not break the arm, then a second shot to the arm breaks the arm. However he does not show this to be the case Even if the 'bone condition stat' exists as he hypothesises, he does not test to see if it regenerates over a period of time. A better test sequence would be, 1 shot to the arm followed by a waiting period (5-10-15-20 mins), then a second shot to the arm. He says himelf that "spinal fracture" does not exist in the code at all, and suggests a "a side effect" of the 'bone condition stat' But > nowhere in the video does he show that the "bone condition stat" does not regenerate over time. If there is a specific bone condition stat (of any kind) it will be visible in the code, of course. If you die when your bone condition stat reaches zero, there is no need to suggest there is also "side effect" stat. It is not necessary to the theory. All he must do, is demonstrate that the bone condition stat exists and does not regenerate over time. But in this video he does not do that. -

Look in the outside toilets in gardens. They are full of all kinds of loot. If you see 3 or 4 objects in the toilet, pick them up and throw them out on the grass.. there will be more loot underneath. If you don't want the loot, throw it out anyway, then next time you go past there will be different loot in the toilet. Don't tell anyone about this. xx -
albinoclock said it already You can get sick from drinking lake or stream water, so if you try to drink till you vomit make sure you do it at a pump Only pump water or rainwater is clean If you stay at a pump the time you need to drink until you vomit, you'll probably get shot before you finish. :)
