    For sure your OP is good sister Ray: With a couple of million players of different lifestyles and ages, most people think (expect) that apples, cow, pig, berries, mushrooms, fish, deer .. are edible things you can find in the wild - they are all well-known foods people are used to. The actual real problems of hunting in a survival situation, gutting boar, knowing which plants (and which parts) are edible, etc - just don't come up. Very few people think its normal to eat grubs, worms, small birds eggs, ants eggs, plants, insects, watercress, hedgehogs, grass snakes, nettles, frogs - they don't think about this, don't expect it, haven't tried any of it, so this would seem strange to them. I'm not attacking BI designers. Just saying that in real life ... etc etc .. So having mushrooms in the game is not a *bad* thing for gameplay, it will probably look good, and it also educates players that you can kill yourself by eating those things. Nice simple lesson to include in a zombie apocalypse game. For other things that you can forage that would really help you survive IRL - probably Whyherro123 and other folk have suggestions that would not seem completely crazy to most players - not too "survival hardcore" or too difficult to bring in the game (like eggs, snakes, grubs and insects might be technically difficult ?) Off the cuff - wild rhubarb is a European plant [it's a start ?] ..wood pigeon ? What would be practical in DayZ ? Any ideas ?

    Hmmm..No. lol - youz guys are really STRANGE :) BERRY MUSHROOM " there are 27 calories in a typical serving of fresh mushrooms " " eating mushrooms gathered in the wild should only be undertaken by individuals knowledgeable in mushroom identification " xx

    I love hearing these city people talk about "country" like they have any idea what it is check Google Earth and zoom in on central European forested areas - there are plenty of them. You think you can walk through those, city people ? You think you can drive a truck through those ? OK, city people - what do you do after the apocalypse ? You stay in the city and you shoot each other. lol

    Yes, that's what I said. Unless you are a vegan, mushrooms are useless. and dangerous. Anything you can eat contains all this stuff with just one or two notable exceptions, as we know. you think there are many 100% vegan survivalists in the real world or in dayz ? you think a vegan survivalist (if there was such a thing) would not know how to maintain B12 ? If you ever find yourself trying to survive IRL - DONT eat mushrooms, ok ? [and don't eat cow dung either, I was just joking even though it can be done. Go eat a frog or a couple of worms or something, for crss sake] [edit] if mushroom = protein = carb = ZERO and mushroom = hydration = ZERO then what nutrition value ingame would you put on a mushroom = more than an apple or less than an apple ?? hmm ? Now - if you were going to include mushrooms in prepared, mixed, heated food = stews for instance - if this possibility was introduced in the game then they would be a real advantage, as the psychological and morale value of nourishing hot good-tasting food is pretty high in survival situations otherwise not but yes they look good xx

    as Whyherro123 says above - IRL mushrooms have ZERO food value. No mushroom is of any nutritional benefit (vitamin Bs and minerals, ya can get anywhere). If you want to survive just leave them alone. birds eggs would make more sense than mushrooms eating various plant leaves would be 100% more productive than eating mushrooms, which is a useless occupation if you want vitamin B12 stew up some cow dung still - mushrooms look nice .. and they can make you ill, so why not ?

    Yes - just that it is very easy for admins to do this. The two Public servers closest to my location both do the same. The admins turn the Public server on when they want to play in the evening. Two players. They turn it off when they stop playing. They kick everyone who joins. What do you think they are doing in there? Sure, anyone can do it - but ordinary players on a populated server are not likely to be building a splosion in a barracks. It's usually too much hassle for them and there are too many interruptions, right ? I don't think the gameplay and the reporting system should ENCOURAGE admins to wreck the whole public server system for their own benefit. It's auto-destruct. It's sad, dude. IMO xx

    Yes, IMO this would be great - some discussion and player support already (a while back) on the forums http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/212565-underground-sectionsareas-of-chernarus-metro-system-caves/page-2#entry2133760 http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/213952-underground-features/#entry2147795 There were some terrain features in the NW a little while ago, that looked like experimental basements or tests for underground structures .. or just an interesting feature ? http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/221680-whos-seen-the-abandoned-soviet-underground-bases/#entry2226942 I haven't been up that way for a while - I don't know if these are still there or what happened to them, or if the devs made a definite decision either way about "underground" structures or basements under normal houses. Maybe (for instance) these are on hold until the current lighting limitations are sorted ? just one or two dark basements under barns or in town wouldn't harm the gameplay.

  9. so with persistence, how long do they stay cut down ? can you build logging roads now ? anyone tried a forest ?
  10. OK Does this work at present ? - or only on Exp ? - for me pumpkins stopped giving seeds a while ago (when persistence started) and today on the current build nothing has changed. I can no longer get option to collect seeds from a pumpkin with any cutting tool at all. I don't find any "cut into slices" option either. Is this only on experimental ? or what am I doing wrong ? In the current build I'm convinced there is no such option. I guess if its on exp it will come back to mainstream soon. [also kind of crazy that you cant mix packet seeds and harvested seeds, but it aint killing me] xx [edit] Things you can do with an invisible pumpkin : :)

Get an idea what's happening. If you liked the Mod how can you NOT check out SA ?? no it's not worth playing so why do I play it ? because it's worth playing obviously Do you still have SA installed, because you played before, right ? If not, just buy it. It's the kind of game you can drop in anytime. after a hard day, play DayZ, get frustrated, scare yourself, have a couple of shocks.. forget the day.. wow .. feel good.. My advice is go play, and decide for yourself. The great thing about this game is you can (should) find out on your own if it's worth playing. You don't need to have a peer-group opinion about it. You can do what you like. Or you can run with a group and do the same as them. What you find in the game is what you bring to it. Plenty people find this frightening .. they don't like going out in front and inventing the play for themselves, They want to have rails laid down, or they get worried and sad. But YES - there are many groups that already have fixed play styles, Find them on these forums. They do funny pvp, or serious pvp, or mil sim, or vigilante, or RP, or peaceful hunter-farmers, or bandits or survival or yolo.. there's a group to suit ANY taste. Check it out and GO for it. [ heh, I'll be the guy in the woods trying to wreck your group's day :) ] Mainly - what you bring to the game is what you get out of it. That's fun. And its still developing, so you are in the process and that's fun too - try playing experimental, there's a different attitude over there IMO.   14. good post Ebrim ! this should be in the survival guides. Once you are off the beach, past the first startup survival - farming is 100% the easiest way to go on living decently. It "seems" to take time but it is a rapid activity considering the food gain in that time. Farm (plant 1 maybe 2 tiles), eat, move on. Also - I think Ebrim said this in another forum - Using "dirty" water to grow crops is an easy way to convert bad water (risk of illness) into hydration without medications. but - still no way to boil water to purify it, which is silly, and cooking is too complicated to be realistic (except gas stove) so farming is far better than hunting. [to boil drinking water IRL you need burning twigs and an empty tin can, you do not need an oven] * * * AND scuse me off topic (..while you're there) On Exp. did anyone notice what happened to "collect seeds" from farming. Is that back in yet ? Or has it been deliberately taken out, or just forgotten ? Will this be back in the next patch ? xx

    Anyone noticed the reduction in the total number of trees across the map ? Also - In the days of the mod, forested areas often had a thicker border of trees and bushes (remember?) - this gave an impression of denser forest Now as well as the built up areas there is more open ground. The forests are very much reduced, and overall they are thinner.. many forested areas you can see right through from one side to the other. It would be great if just two or three of the remaining forest areas were double thickness, so there was no line of sight and you couldn't drive a truck through them .

    Bad = anyone in 100% military gear with automatic weapons Bad = anyone with a facemask Bad = probably also include anyone wearing a cowboy hat (heh, why not ?) they deserve to be shot Instead of 'bad' or 'good' how about a new category = Worthless ?? shoot them, beat them to death with a spade, or maybe eat them xx

    Be good, upvote the bug report. Because of this stuff, there are admins of Public servers who switch on their server for 1 hour in the evening, kick everyone who joins so they can mess with persistence without being interrupted (without having loot moved around by other players), then switch the server off again until tomorrow night. And as you know, a screenshot of "you have been kicked" is not accepted as evidence by the SPs. Only admins can really exploit persistence this way, so it's a strong encouragement for public server admins to be unfair and it messes with everyone's game; That's reasonably detestable, right ? So putting in a bug report and voting up the problem, kinda helps 100% more than complaining about admins loot farming on public servers. xx

    Why did you buy this game?

    got the mod for free played a thousand hours or maybe two thousand hours so when the SA came out I bought it, of course as far as I'm concerned I've put a very tiny bit of money back into the process. For the two games this works out at about ten cents for every 20 hours so far, still getting cheaper this means I've paid a lot less than it was worth to me, by any standards, and I still have a lifetime free membership to use so now it's just a totally free ride, ya know ? all the things I like about it - are the things I like and all the things I dont like are also what I like about it good game (crazy game) you start on a beach, when you get it wrong you die apart from that you're on your own, anything goes, work it out what's not to like ?
