Grimey Rick has got to be right - I dont see how framerate can change anything. But if you are loosing packets up to the server, the server may think you've stopped moving (after a few milliseconds of no reception) and then start you moving again when it gets the next packet. You won't notice this, whatever your framerate, because your own machine keeps on doing what you started doing, until it gets an instruction back from the server to correct your location. If that happens frequently then overall you'll run slower. You don't notice location correction until it gets so big yo start rubberbanding; I don't know this - but maybe a senile pc with a low framerate might just be so weak that it's slowing down packet send too? * for nerds : I tune my system to over-stress the bandwidth even though I loose packets, because with UDP there is no resend cost, so overall I gain (check it out). At the top rate more packets get through. This wouldn't work with TCP natch, so if I leave it like that I'm slowing my TCP a little. But what the hell... -
Is this instead of 'broken arm'/'broken leg' or as well as ? If damage causes extreme pain and extreme pain means you can't move till you are helped .. - then if you take any damage you just have to lie there until someone helps you or you die ? if broken arm / broken leg does NOT cause extreme pain then you only get extreme pain when you are shot ? - so might as well do away with bleeding, if you are shot you lie in one place till someone helps you or you die ? or can you get extreme pain from eating bad berries ?

How would you feel if 1st person perspective was mandatory?
pilgrim* replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
In fact I understand it's the other way around: - the 1pp players are lobbying to have 3pp altered so they can move over from 1pp to 3pp servers, and then the 1pp servers can be closed down completely. Most of these "God-Hates-3pp" you-must-play-like-me evangelist 1pp players say they would like to play 1pp servers full time but there are no players on there. Lol So they want to force 3pp into a kind-of 1pp shape, then they can come play with everyone else. anyway - the result is, the 1pp players want to close down the 1pp servers. xx -

You're carrying something in your hands and they aren't -
Two Million Nine Hundred Thousand players have joined and logged on to play 3pp DayZ Maybe 3000 want to play 1pp DayZ That tiny minority got their own servers, to play how they like - if they want to change how those 'hardcore' 1pp servers function, then they can surely lobby for it (and feel superior, and insult each other, etc), no problem... I like to play 1pp but I can't tolerate this 'holier than thou' elitist crap. In the meantime, people who ACTUALLY PLAY on 3PP SERVERS, and enjoy it, can discuss how to make it a better experience ... OK ? Am I missing something here ? xx ____________________________________________________ or are the "God Hates 3pp" evangelists truly such intolerant fa**ist d***heads ?
-
Dosn't tell me a thing Bro. Sorry .... Don't mean a thang. You want to take that up with Bohemia and Shacktac I guess. Hey - how many million players has ol' Shacktac got in ArmA ? YEP - you said it all right there. xx

A blanket or a tarp would be good in the game Put it over your shoulders and other gear to stay dry Use a stick with it to make a simple shelter, stay dry, warm, and stash two or three items in it Your lean-to or A-frame very good Also hard to spot

It's more immersive - meaning its more intense - I agree. I play 1pp for intensity. But more "realistic" ? hmm... there you go again. Do you understand this thing about human beings IRL having 170° forward vision? And spatial body-awareness ? This is not rocket science, its your own eyesight, its your own location awareness - check it out. Right now you KNOW where your feet are - yes? Did you have to look ? 1pp and 3pp is NOT an obvious choice and Bohemia spent a lot of time studying the options. They aren't stupid. They are still working on ideas to improve peception-simulation right now. I used to play DOOM - 1pp. That was intense too. I have no problem with "intense".

yep I press my nose right flat to the screen, and I can JUST ALMOST see inside round the edges also in this game I can smell zombies behind me - and when I'm about to go into a dark room, you know ANYONE can smell a gun that's been fired in the last 10 minutes... it's all good.
-
in my honest opinion Mercules: You guys are all so brainwashed sitting in front of FPS games that you can't understand what is really in front of you. if you want to live with your head in a cardboard box you can only see out of a slot cut in the front - that's cool, but don't tell me it's real human vision. And don't tell anyone to go into combat like that - if you did they'd give you a RUDE reply. You certainly can't compare it to real life, dude. When you look at your SCREEN(S) dude, how much of the ROOM can you see ? Plenty of it, right ? - you can see half the room, right ? - you're a human being you have 170° vision (but not in the game, dude) AND - lol - you can ALSO move your eyeballs without moving your head - that's pretty amazing hu ? Try that in your FPS game. OK - to be serious - Do you people remember WHY Bohemia introduced 3pp into their game - do you ?? If you don't remember, then read up on it - BI introduced 3pp to make the experience MORE REALISTIC. Do the damn research and read THE DEVS arguments about why they brought in 3pp. It was for "battlefield realism" You ask me to choose between ( 1 ) and ( 2 ) well that's an interesting and difficult choice - you think it's an easy choice because you're a sucker for the "standard screen view". That's not your fault dude. Most FPS players accept that as the given. After a while you don't notice how unrealistic it is. Only developers and simulation experts worry about "realism" - They discuss it, they experiment, they write about it, they explain the problems. I guess you missed out on the whole debate. But you could check out what Bohemia has said about this, and what other simulation developers have said. It's all on record. you make the mistake of saying "I like it - so it must be realistic" and "I don't like it - so it must be unrealistic". All that shows is that the game works for you, and you've been suckered into a nice immersion experience, and you feel good with it. So you think it seems "realistic". But BI products are NOT supposed to be FPS games - they are supposed to be immersive battlefield SIMULATION games .. that's not the same as FPS for a whole set of reasons - read up on the subject. And finally - you find a game "realistic" when any first year medical student, or any foot soldier, or any psychologist, or any game designer, or any alert player - can point out why it is not "realistic". then that's real nice for you but stay clear of the debate until you know what you're talking about. xx
-
Well NO dude that is so wrong. You're telling me that when you look out of the front of your face you can only see a range as wide as your computer screen ??? - do you have an idea what it's like to be a human being ? check it out one day. [ but no problem - if you really think that's "realistic", hey, there are servers specially set aside for you to play on .. enjoy! ] xx
-
Since the early days plenty of people have asked for and suggested better combat ideas. Many players want melee combat - more players than have ever argued about camera positions etc.. I think a few melee moves would be a really great advance .. it's something we need in the game sooner or later IMO. If possible.

^ this is cool - but there is a problem at present if you punch - for instance - you send the command to hit, it goes to the server - the server calculates the strike, hit or miss - and calculates the damage - at the SAME TIME it sends the command back out to the players software to launch the punch animation So currently you can't see a punch coming and block it - it's already too late. This has been the problem with zombies hitting players "after" the player killed the zombie. It is a problem with the time needed to start and play an animation. The calculation of hits has nothing to do with the animations. I don't know what the development plan is for this (and hey if I'm wrong I'd like to hear about it)

hmm ... "the real world" .. as soon as the devs give the DayZ tune a 170° field of view, eyes front and subliminal perception of very slight sounds, breathing, and 'instinctive situational assessment' ('combat awareness', important in stress situations) and a sense of smell and physical spatial perception and the normal, highly accurate self-location ability of the human body and realistic in-game reaction time and throw in perception of pressure change on the inner ear.. why not ?.. so you know which way is up and you sense (not hear - sense) movement outside your peripheral vision etc then 1pp will be great and it may also be slightly kind of 'realistic' xx 1 ) When I play 1pp, I play on a 1st person server - why does this make me wrong ? 2 ) ps - I guess no one could walk around with a little-bitty mirror in their pockets ?? - like in 'Saving Ryan' ?? that would sure wreck ALL these arguments

How would you feel if 1st person perspective was mandatory?
pilgrim* replied to FlimFlamm's topic in General Discussion
With ongoing work on a new 3pp camera And all the recent threads already exhausting the 1pp topic Why start the whole totally sterile dabate again ? 1pp players should not force 3pp players to play 1pp 3pp players should not force 1pp players to play 3pp there are servers for everyone, everybody can find a place to play how they like you don't need a poll to see how many players want 3pp, how many want 1pp only - look at the servers people ARE playing the way they like - right ? ZERO problem -

Sorry - had to laugh. Hope you've realized how dumb this circular argument is ? Why are you people against freedom of choice? You want to turn DayZ back into a Doom-Like ? Just play some other game, freakz. Or stfu and go play on the 1pp servers that are sooo popular. That's what they are for. Or play 1pp on 1pp/3pp servers - and Suck It In xx -
like too-easy says its worthwhile trying to make it to a tree and search for Wooden Sticks - you can have fun under any tree look at the ground and use the mousewheel to get the "search for sticks" option. then combine stick + rag = splint No joke, all kinds of strange stuff can happen if you try to survive. Dont give up too soon. xx

Please, stop building villages everywhere
pilgrim* replied to billyangstadt's topic in General Discussion
:) :) Yes I planned New York, Osaka, and Stalingrad cool hu? I had some help with Osaka (it's not so great what do you think ?) The villages are too close it's not an opinion its a fact. When you say "Doesn't make it a fact" .. in fact that's your opinion My opinion is that your opinion is not factual but in fact, that's a fact and not my opinion I also plan forests. A fact about planning forests is they should look like forests I'm right, so I don't mind if we agree to differ xx :) :) -

^ bilberries, also called whinberries are the European close cousin of blueberries. they are widespread, many countries from Ireland to Poland have specific laws permitting their collection, and there are traditional days and festivals for gathering them, and traditional recipes and jams, ie they are very common and extremely well known. I remember as a kid having my hands and arms stained completely purple from eating these things off the bush. It's a real red-purple stain almost like mercurochrome - takes a couple of days to was out. End of July and through August we collected kilos of them. They are blue-black, with a blue surface bloom on the ripe berries, so they look very much like blueberries - or like the in-game blue fruit. There is no chance of confusing them with sambuctus as bilberries grow on low ground-covering stiff bushes forming a carpet average maybe 6 inches high. They grow on heath, grassy slopes, moorland, in the borders of woods, in glades.. I hear that Sweden for instance has more than 10% of the total land surface covered by these whinberry bushes. That's plenty fruit. They are a totally standard widespread famous native European berry. - aðalbláber - fraughan - bilberry - blauberry - winberry - jagody - myrtilles - afină - &etc.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bilberry -
In the Mod the chainlink gate sound was always definitely associated with a zombie area. You never heard it out in the real woods - only when you came close to a village or a house. It was a 100% definite sign that you were in range of structures or habitations. Because of random noises now in SA I'm not sure if this is still the same. It would be very fine if bird alarm-sounds and breaking twigs indicated player proximity. Maybe just a 10% or 20% chance of hearing a breaking branch if another player entered your area. Steak and Potatoes (I think it was Steak or Max Planck ?) suggested this about 2 years ago - maybe he wasn't the first. Many people have agreed since then. In the game every time I hear a branch break I still get shock, because IRL it can only mean one thing. My bet is this must turn up sooner or later.
