Suicide by bicycle is a terrible thing and players should only sometimes make jokes about it: 1 ) The animation is really grim (adults only) 2 ) They don't have safety catches

Make sure to report public servers that kick for no reason
pilgrim* replied to aurien's topic in General Discussion
I've said a lot on this topic so I'd like to say this: I think BI did well, and acted sincerely - right from the start - They worked with chosen SPs. They worked to get an agreement with the SPs for the best distribution of DayZ SA, also to provide unpaid 'official' servers, and to get the best experience for all DayZ players. NOT about money - It was to make sure DayZ SA got special status with SPs as much as possible - and the players got the best deal and the best treatment that BI could arrange. They made a good effort to start up the Hive and the Public Servers correctly for the players. Obviously we have run into a problem, but I truly expect BI can sort it out themselves. They have dealt with worse stuff in the past. The SPs do not belong to BI they are independent companies: they can't be "forced" to stick to the spirit of an agreement, (they are not game companies, they are hardware rental companies, they rent 500 different games and their standard written policy is they never concern themselves with what happens inside a game). - In the meantime, continue to complain to SPs certainly. But BI is free to do exactly what it likes inside the gameplay, by itself it can make loot stockpiling on "no-entry" low-pop servers much less worthwhile. I mainy wanted to say: I do not blame BI for this current situation. A lot of people knock BI mainly for stupid reasons, but Bohemia are OK by me. They are always advancing. The situation is bad: Bohemia is NOT bad. OK? (end of clarification, thanx) xx pilgrim -

Yes I understand, both of you - this should/could be very good I' wondering about the difficulty of getting it into the game. (and I admit - in this thread I was slightly laughing about not being able to spray a player running through woods because he dodged too fast.. there could be "several" reasons for that incident) OK: Player Inertia - go for it Imagine 2 players with full mountain backpacks & a gun & and their clothes with full pockets (how many kilos is that on your back ?) - then the two players square off and try to melee with axes... (hmm..). That will be interesting to see. Also when shooting - as you turn your rifle barrel to lead a moving target, you have inertia too - at first not much because you can track a target easily over a few degrees without moving your body mass- until you have to shift your shoulders (your stance) with that famous 40 kilo backpack. then you have to regain your stance, and aim again as if for the first time. What happens if you run down a forest hill weighted like that (you must be very slow and careful?) - or if you jump down a couple of feet with a full pack, might that damage you? I guess also you climb ladders much slower? Also if you try to swim with 30k and a rifle on your back you drown? (of course!) And to drive a vehicle you have to take off that pack and the gun and the spade, I guess? Anyone ever tried that IRL? Do snipers with SVDs wear a full pack as usual (no penalty) or do they loose accuracy for trying that? Also I guess if you run with a heavy weight it is not only slower, but also it takes longer for you to get your breath back so you can aim properly? And if running you throw yourself flat, or hop over a fence, or even just jump up to standing/running position from prone (try that with a heavy pack IRL), that weight will always make a big difference in speed and in what you can/cant do. Then the actual movement of 'running' round a corner, - if I take it too fast and tight do I overbalance and stumble or fall over (realistic), or do I have to run wide around the turn, or stop and then step round pretty slowly? Or going half way up stairs, changing your mind and turning round to come back down.. that really won't be 100% easy, with or without a rifle in your hands. Any chance of tripping? or is the whole movement slowed down? And then.; hmm.. suppose I do a deliberate body attack with all my gear on - I run straight into a player full force (from front, or from the back by surprise). Will that knock him down, stun him? Or if I run full into a wall by mistake (it happens) - will that stun me? all this stuff (these things here are just off the top of my head) - this is great and interesting - it all comes from the physical mass and inertia of players. There are plenty more examples we all know from real life, and from wearing backpacks, carrying heavy objects (for instance I suppose truck wheels will not be given realistic weight and inertia, or the player rolls them?) I agree, this will be amazing to pull off. It will change the game radically (a lot of players will throw fits & complaint-rants) But I hope to see it. xx pilgrim

I dont like the heli crashsite system and think it's flawed
pilgrim* replied to Me1andMe2's topic in General Discussion
True - those Zombie Pilots used to wander around crash sites in the Mod, they could sometimes make life more hot and spicy. Also Orio42, a zombie or two in any unexpected places could be interesting - one shuffling down an open main road between towns for no particular reason - or just one walking through open doors and moving through a little village, house to house, sometimes outside, sometimes inside .. so they player is a bit less sure how safe he is .. ATM zombies are in a known location, or they are definitely not, you soon learn. And how about sometimes a mean-bad zomb who takes double or triple damage before he goes down? xx -
A whole player-physics momentum system built, added, tested, weighted, debugged, tuned - to make it easier to shoot people who are running away and dodging? There must be a better reason?

Really - the helicrashes are just a way of spreading rare loot and getting players to move around the country so they don't all meet for a big clambake at each military compound.. This story WILL happen to you: One day you'll be thinking about some beanz You'll wander round a bush for no reason and walk face first into helicrash smoke right there, with a kitted Vintorez lying out in plain view first thing you see. Unreal! Don't panic... DayZ - it happens like that. You walked into it.. (ok don't hyperventilate). Stay cool. GET it - get to cover. Move. You'll grab that thing an be out of there so fast, zig-zagging through the trees, expecting a bullet any second. I'll bet you don't even stop for a couple of miles even to look at it. And - in fact - that's when your problems start. It always happens in DayZ sooner or later. xx -

SERIOUSLY : Some items are rare and some are not rare. If a weapon is very rare that means NOT everybody can have one even if they search for days. I am a PvP beginner, so please explain: What weapons do you NEED exactly to PvP? Can anyone even try to PvP without an AUG? thanx -
I hear that. For starters, the Steam 2h money back offer kind of illustrates what some clients are about Can anyone decide if DayZ is a good game in 2 hours, total 2h from buy-to-refund? seriously? Did you even check it out before you bought it, or just random click on a couple of games? (ya can always get a refund, right?) I'm not knocking STEAM but there ARE (younger?) players who are "6 or 8 games per session" people: This is from experience - I have SEEN this. (hey, disclaimer - this is not a relative of mine, ok?). Dude spends 15 mins on GTA or similar. Then plays some freebees, then 10 on a CoD lookalike, then old Crysis and Tomb Raider until he's bored after 5, or maybe to get a star. Skypes with mates on other games at the same time, Also TS in-game and crosstalk with the Skype dudes on the other game about what they did at the party on Saturday. Say how dumb their other friends are. Play youtube music vids on the other screen, because one guy online told them to watch that now. He writes comments there, while they play the game here, Meantime he trolls around STEAM (still playing), throws in a couple of sick insults he made up for fun, or repeats stuff he's seeing on youtube or heard over the phones, about games he never played. Dude likes using plenty of F-words because he get whacked in the head if he uses those at home. Does this while he is doing his homework. Starts bored ends bored. It is a lifestyle. That ain't everyone. Plenty of YOUNG players have good opinions and play well, and can tell you the real lowdown on a game and if it is worth playing. But plenty talk total bull-manure, and it is 100% easier to diss everything than try to explain even one good point. Also plenty of old players talk rubbish too (some are maybe worse, takes a while for life-frustration to really dig in deep). But SKYPE reviews and comment = take a pinch of salt with those, or maybe just don't ever read them. xx [if the dude wants to play like that, buy and live and comment like that, it's his right: but mass popular "who cares" easy click "like or don't like" instant-2-way-comms, world-access, today's-trending-news, short-term-gratification, low-attention-span, ... his opinions aren't going to be "original" - ya cater for the average - screw rational choice, screw minorities, deliberately avoid original or complicated (ya loose clients) - then ask people if they can still think? - (hah) - So you turn on and what do you get - hey, it's just the standard CRAP? I guess that's what folk want.]

pilgrim* replied to Me1andMe2's topic in General Discussion
Yes RIGHT CJ - my take is that heli-hunting is this patch's most popular sport, many players will calm down soon. Either helicrash sites or Police Stations are the month's big fashion event, but it won't last because its just a fashion trend, right? This is because everyone PvP wants a big sniper rifle (I don't know why?) or they want a little police submachine gun. - also seems that a lot of folks do believe MP5s and Skorpions etc only spawn at heli sites (maybe they cant see?) - we ought to have bright lime-green dress uniforms and gold-plate MP5s so we can play at 'Dictator's Bodyguards'? - the 2 best snipers Ive ever seen (1 youtube, one in-game) both used Moisins with metal sites.. awesome! - makes me think there are VERY FEW real snipers in DayZ - maybe ought to be a training camp for them? It's not the gun that counts. My guess is you can't dress properly for PvP unless you have an MP5 or an SVD. If you show without one of those, all your friends laugh at you.You feel real embarrassed. Other players Tweet about it. = AKs have gone right out of fashion this patch.. OK - that was the fashion news. My HINT for the spring collection: Why not try wearing a Little Girls Dress to PvP instead of body armor? It's FUN and it gets you noticed ! * * * Also - Players always complain when stuff is rare. It can be very-very rare no prob, as long as they have one. xx pilgrim -

pilgrim* replied to Me1andMe2's topic in General Discussion
The problem is not server hopping, you have not understood - The problem is that an admin can hire a Public Server and treat it completely as if it was his own private server, Even though this is against the rules, it is common practice. - Firsty - it is cheaper to hire a Public Hive Server than than a Private Server. - Secondly - the players on Public Hive can take their gear to any other Public Server (all on the same hive) even though they do not let other Public Hive players enter their own Server. This is against the rules but it is common practice. So - if an admin kicks 'outsiders' who join his Public Server, firstly it is very difficulty to prove (at present impossible?) - and also that admin has complete security and freedom to gather up all the loot that spawns on his server. There is zero competition because no 'outsiders' are allowed in. The admin's loot and his tents are 100% secure, even though this is against the rules. The big practical problem for DayZ is that this exploit is not policed - if for instance a Public server this evening turns on an "autokick"or "whitelist', or just kicks manually, it is not detectable or provable (autokicks are very very simple to install on your PC, and leave no evidence). Someone with authority (a human operator) must verify that the Public server REALLY kicks players who try to log in. To check this is a real complaint and not a troll, right? This has to be undertaken by an accredited person who works for the Server Provider. NOW: how many Server Provides have staff in their office late after office hours (for instance until midnight on weekdays, or all night at weekends) checking that DayZ Public Servers are 'playing fair' in New Zealand, and in South Korea and in Florida etc? The Server Provider has received complaints from players - certainly - (keep on sending in complaints about unfair kicking). now, who is policing those recorded complaints to make sure they are true? - How can the SP tell tell an admin is kicking players at 22h00 unless an SP staff member is on line at 22h00 ?? - How many Of the Server Providers do this? Of course the answer is 'zero'. Since the official complaints procedure has been running for more than a year, the number of admins who use their Public server as if it was private has greatly INCREASED. Public Server administrators now know that sanctions are ineffective. It is amusing and 'profitable' for them to destroy the spirit of DayZ SA. This has absolutely nothing to do with a player deciding to use " a select Private Hive" or not. Sorry. xx pilgrim [edit - EVEN if you get "caught" exploiting - so it is official and proven - OK, what happens next? Well.. your server might be closed -that is the worst thing that can happen - and if your server is closed you don't pay for it any more. SO you open up a new server, you pay the same price you payed last time, and you give it any chosen name you want (even the SAME name). You are back in business doing the same thing you were busted for, and It costs you about 5 minutes keyboard time. End of story. So even if you are found guilty and officially "punished" (that doesn't happen very often) = what is the sanction? = what is the cost to the Bad Admin = well, in fact it is zero. You can be running again tomorrow doing the SAME thing at zero extra expence, you lose NOTHING This is WHY the Public Server "kick" admins are LAUGHING at DayZ. -

YES I agree - 10 hours is a long time to wait if all you want is PvP. So forget about helicopters. Get a subumachine gun, a revolver, a Mozin or an axe. Check out a police station or a Barracks or a police car. Use Brass Knuckles or a spade to kill someone and steal their gear. Now THAT IS real Person v Person, DayZ style. .. That's how they did it IRL in places like Stalingrad WWII, where they were VERY SERIOUS about PvP - no one wasted time looking for "good gear" to KOS with, they just went right AT it.. Also, you can eat the dude afterwards, what more do you want? Please don't think I am being bad to you Me1anME2. I mean all this. There is a situation at the moment about military loot that needs to be worked out, but I believe it is NOT because of the helicrash system - IMO it is an exploitation problem. Meanwhile you can PvP with different weapons "civiian weapons" (and find ammo easier too) and if you want only pure military PvP there are better games. But stick with DayZ and find new ways of dealing with "civil war" and with "urban breakdown" and "survival" and "man against man", KoS and starvation and cooperation, even cannibalism and street gangs with melee weapons.. In the long term, DayZ is a lot more interesting than straight PvP in the CoD style. - IMO. I have found a nice Public server with low ping (37) that lets me play in the evenings (every evening) without kicking me - that is rare IMO.(I mean: In My Experience) Leastways he hasn't kicked me in 2 weeks since the server got a new name string. I was trying to locate the guy to THANK him for letting me play on his Public server without kicking me, because I think that's pretty nice and fair of him. It' getting rare. This is NOT a joke, I WAS looking for the guy to thank him and say "hello". I only know a few servers I can definitely play, in daylight (late evenings real-time) regularly without problems, in more that 160+ Public on my list with ping less than 100. (for instance there are a LOT more 'Public kick' servers than Private Servers, that is fact) The only strange thing - is he restarts in groups of 3 or 4 times together - After half an hour play, the server will restart 3 times in 15 minutes or less. Then there is no problem for half an hour, then 3 restarts in a row again.. I don't know why he does this, I haven't asked yet. I'm mainly in the sticks or a civilian location when it happens. == Note: for Me1andMe2 - About 90%+ of everyone I see in DayZ (but NOT everybody) is totally kitted out military style. The ones I kill (before they kill me) don't even have food with them, only ammo, guns and full mil. clothes. So IMO they don't spend 10 hours getting that military gear. Do you think this an explanation why there are so many Public servers with only 1-5 players who kick every stranger who logs in? I think this might help explain why a lot of players don't care how "long" it takes to find an unlooted helicrash or a safe fully-stocked Barracks to raid, because except on high-pop Public servers no one else is on the server to compete for that loot. If you don't let anyone else play on your Public server - then you and your friend the admin ( the "clan") can spend just a couple of quiet hours filing up your tents with good gear. Then leave the tents safe on your "no join" Pubic server - so then you can go on any high-pop server and PvP for hours, right? This is very profitable. Your stash is always completely safe back on your "Public" server as long as you never let anyone in there. Hey, not everyone plays 'my server my lot farm". Let me make this clear. I am a hunter and a woodsman, mainly, I don't PvP much. I don't hardly KOS unless I see a mil. flattop dude. I don't care if I have an assault rifle or not. I collect gear as I come across it..I keep it or throw it away. Plenty of players follow that same ethic, and also whole other FAIR styles of play, they use civilian weapons, some also PvP, and they have plenty FUN and adrenaline excitement. But when a growing number of players are exploiting the game to corner high end loot, then the whole loot system goes out of balance. It is an Economic Collapse, simple. This destroys the reasons for the loot distribution values and it wrecks the game. xx -

Sorry, I've said this before on other threads (ages ago) - this is the same again, so thanx and please skip it if you already know what I'm saying here:: Zombies! I want to boost the number of zombies and have zombies with different AI so they act differently. To do this easily with a fast fix - Why not just temporarily add in a few of the old badly-made, standard, stupid zombies like they were in the Mod? A short trial patch. They are already built, they are scripted and ready to go. Just for one patch - to see how it goes, and find what players think. This will increase the numbers of zombs without changing the REAL work on the REAL zombies. Those old zombies don't need much bandwidth they don't need hardly any AI at all, they use about zero CPU. Try a few on Experimental - for ONE trial update - see what happens to the gameplay when they are mixed in with today's real SA zombies. I think the mix might give a big boost, and generate some thought about SA (I don't mean keep the old zombies, I mean just play them for once, to see what new ideas come up from the player base and the Devs, looking at the performance and gameplay) Those old zombies: They wandered around at almost normal walking pace. They could run fast, but they chased badly (the AI was very simple), and there were plenty of them. Iv'e been stuck on the stairs in apartment buildings because so many zombies were coming UP I couldn't get DOWN, Even killing them, the bodies piled up and blocked the stairs till they despawned (and by then more already turned up) You could stealth them really easily - you could crawl past 6 feet away or lie still while they walked by, but they changed direction sometimes unpredictably - they could be a sudden real danger when you were stealthing. And they heard any noises you made. - Remember they heard if you used your mike? I know they are officially POLITICALLY INCORRECT in the SA; - but I bet if you plugged in 10 or 20 of those old cr*p zombies (just for a week) to any city block or any high-rise estate - every new player who never played the Mod will be 200% happy, the new players will go crazy for them; They were fun, they were idiots, they were badly made (but they looked good), they were chaotic, they were easy to kill - and they worked. Give them one tryout - as the 'just-visiting' idiot-brothers of the REA zombs... see what happens. I'm saying - just try them out for ONE patch. For one trial on Experimental? xx -
Up-to-date Gun Comparison: CR527 vs IZH 18?
pilgrim* replied to tatchell (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
'Rifle' [hunting] and 'Military rifle' [assault or sniper] are two different types of gun. Both exist for good reasons. You can fish with a grenade but this does not mean that fishing rods are obsolete or 'stupid' and 'utterly useless'. IMO if you shoot chickens with an assault rifle you ar a sick person (ok, ..still friends?) Mad Vlad is 100% right = good dude! = 3 Beans 7.62x39 is the MOST common ammo I've found right across the map - in boxes (I ain't going to point you to them, but there are plenty) and also lying loose in civilian houses - This is the most frequent ammo type I have found in rural places and villages since 0.59. Literally I throw 40 or 80 rounds away every time I need pack space. I dump it in bushes so the AK freaks don't get it. I find 7.62x39 in a lot more locations than claimed on any of the sites (and today I checked all the usual online maps). You may want to hunt and survive or you my want to go to war? (your choice) Up here where I live there is a saying about single-shot rifles - "a real hunter does not need a second shot" OK - so to be practical anywhere in Chernarus and not waste your lives at mil places doing the rambo-up (ya flattops) to impress your girlfriends and boyfriends: = There are three ammo types by far the MOST generally useful in the game AND common across the map. Seeing as you dont know which guns or ammo you might come across first, these are the best choices (myself, I don't like .22): 1 ) 7.62x39 = for SKS, AKM, IZH18, CR527 (three are common in civilian places - but the SKS seems rareI (IMO?) haven't seen one in this patch. 2 ) 9mm = good for 4 different handguns. Three of them need mags, but the Mauser does not, so do yourself a favor, it is non-military loot spawn + ten shots. I have also found some pistol mags in civilian locations . 3 ) 12 Gauge shells = a dozen in a corner of your pack are as useful as a knife or a fishook. Shotguns can show up anywhere frequently, if you feel the need ATM you can load it, carry it, then dump it.. just keep one load of shells. Gews has said everything need to know about the CR527 (Brno Fox) and IZI 18. Also hey both make a lot of noise, they both hit hard, and they both take paint-spray and ghilie wrap. ( Range 100-350? ) xx -
The OP means he can't spin round in circles fast enough, I think. And maybe he shoots badly. In DayZ bullets already go faster than you can run.

Does loot in persistent storage affect the spawn rates of the immediate area?
pilgrim* replied to koujou_1's topic in Troubleshooting
if you have a Private Server - perhaps you are storing all that gear too close to the original spawn points so it is still inside the item spawn range? (just a thought) Really, try dumping it all out in the Debug Plains anyway - if you have a big stash and only a few players on your Private low-pop cooperative server, then you have nothing much to loose, right ? The gear will always go on spawning, you'll never be short of it. Also you can not take that loot anywhere off the server, and you seem from your OP to have not much you can DO with it ATM, except to go on collecting more and piling it up? OR instead of the Debug Plains - You can always encourage more guest players, permanently OR temporarily, as an alternative - It is totally your own choice how many players you let in from one day to the next (though some Private Server players often like to stick with the same server habitually, over quite a long time). Maybe hold some open days and events ? Bring in more members or guests. Do you agree that the medium-high or high-pop Private Servers are IMO more fun than low-pop Private? xx pilgrim -

Need zombies Need hunting animals (game hunting animals) 'scuse me saying this, but: a ) Putting "Predatory animals/Larger animal population" together in one vote is like putting together "More Zombie and more Fish" b ) Please explain what "Enhanced Ambiance" means? Does "Enhanced Ambiance" mean including a Motown Soundtrack? Or does it mean you can hide behind car tires and they cause bullet deflection to reduce player hits? Or does it mean grass and tall herbs will never look like a mowed lawn at 70 meters? Or does it mean incorporating the Creative Labs EAX sound system, and using the EAGLE developer tool - to create a detailed sound map overlay across the whole of Chernarus, including buildings (interior, exterior, doors, levels) and other in-play audio-effect obstacles (ascribing SQ values to each object instance, or creating larger but detailed "sound polygon areas") - to permit functional 360° audio with distance perception, muffling, occlusion and reflection, to provide players with an advanced (state of the art?) realistic 5.1 in-game audio experience (which a lot of players want, but IMO would be a real pain in the neck for the BI Devs) ? xx -

"Login Protection Period" of 10 seconds or until you move.
pilgrim* replied to J.Dre's topic in Suggestions
OK - I believe you LucidHills, I have never made that test on teamspeak with a friend watching.. it has only happened in the past when I've been attacked by zombies on logging back in because the server stopped and logged me out in the middle of a main street. Or it has happened I log in and get shot real quick, but I never had the "you are Dead" message while the screen was still completely black, before I started to get back into the game to the point where I could just begin to see and move, etc.. . So I take your word for it, that's how it works. You body appear 15-20 seconds before you see anything on your screen and before you can take control. * But - this is only IMO - I still think the best solution is to find somewhere safe to log out (because your next log in will put you exactly back at that same place) - You are in much more danger in the whole 1 minute of logout, than in the 15-second login.. UNLESS you TAKE real good CARE where you log out. Also for ghosting there is a big problem. Firstly - To suggest that if you change servers your body has to log in to the game and stand there visible for 30 seconds before you yourself can join it.. hmmm I don't think many players will go for this. For instance - It is exactly what the OP is complaining about, he wants to eliminate the "danger zone" but you are suggesting to make it about twice long.. The J.Dre OP suggestion is to cut out the waiting time "until you move" so you can't be attacked (that means you can't be seen right?)- Any situation where you CAN log in and then suddenlyappear all set to move - however fair you try to make it - it IS going to be used for ghosting. And it will work really well. If a guy knows enemies are in a location, he will go through another server and choose a good position. Then the people in that place will SUDDENLY see him appear ready to roll. He already knows they are there - but all they see is him instantly pop of thin air and start shooting (lit will look like a teleport). That has GOT to be to the ghoster's advantage, however you arrange the login. Either the people already in the house see him logging in and they can shoot first, OR he arrives instantly anywhere he chooses, goes straight into full action, and takes them 100% by surprise. It has to be one or the other. Either he fades in and other people CAN see him before he's ready, or they CANT see him and he's ready as soon as he appears. The way login is now = a lot less ghosting. Really - the Best Solution is just go find a great place to hide before you log out. If you suddenly get kicked when you're at at a helicrash on the main runway of NWA, or you loose your connection in the middle of the best loot tent in tent city.... too bad.. It's just too bad, EVERYBODY has been dropped from a game = local power cut, or lost connection, or the server goes down when you are in a bad place.. just occasionally it has happened to everyone. That's why everyone tries their BEST to choose a good place to log out. It helps you stay alive. That's what the game's about. xx -
One other thing you do in the game besides running and searching for food - is you DIE. this game = the worse it gets = the better it gets = the better it gets = the worse it gets Seriously - for what to do - ? you could start looking a "Beginners guide" - there are several The "How was your Day(Z)" thread - with lots of entries, players stories Then check the videos in the Gallery section Then take it from there: A whole List of Helpful (technical) threads about the game and playing. A Tourist Guide - one of a several, to some strange things on the map New Player discussion - loads of different topics Then just look around the list of forums and pick what seems interesting find out about 'gearing-up' about 'KOS' and 'meeting other players' and cannibals (oh yes, them..) and about 'tents' and 'vehicles' and about "crafting" (for instance crafting a stone knife is easy and very useful) (I don't know which are the 'good' threads, players talk about those things all over the place) I do know where there are good threads on hunting and survival, in case living in the country away from the towns attracts you: Wilderness Survival and Hunting two instruction guides by Tatanko hmm.. there are so many subjects ... where to start? (start by trying to stay alive just for a little while, but don't worry if you DONT) * * For 2 outside sites that are full of information: DayZ Wiki http://dayz.gamepedia.com/DayZ_Standalone_Wiki has searchable info on items (loot): guns, equipment, food, etc plus tips and tricks and how-tos and DayzDB for info (and the best Map) http://dayzdb.com/map#7.055.128 (the map is Good, but some of this site's database searchable loot is not quite up to date - items and crafting are added to the game faster than DayDB updates them, but is useful reference on plenty of stuff xx pilgrim xx

Error reporting... Have you reported a bug today?
pilgrim* replied to eno's topic in General Discussion
I agree ENO75 For a start: It would be a good thing if error reporting was was greatly simplified I KNOW many folk on the forum want to report a bug, and don't understand why their account doesn't work, then can't find if the error is already reported, then can't figure out how to add to that report, or start a new one, or which of those they SHOULD do, or how - or they can see it listed in importance, but cant find the text, or where to write, & etc.. The explanations on navigation are amazingly totally unhelpful - they are deliberately written by depraved media-experts and evil behavioral-psychologists to completely stop and prevent players from reporting bugs unless the reporter is so desperate, and thinks the bug incident is so life-and-death vital, that he WILL spend 2 hours hour doing it (or ask other people for help)... Mainly they abandon it. Sometimes they persist with determination and manage to make a partial record of what they intended. I have seen that forum members have even followed a link to a bug report simply to up-vote it, and then just can't do it.. A SIMPLE 1-2-3 explanation of how to do that, would be a MAJOR ADVANCE IMO around 80%+ from the forum who go to report a bug, or to up-vote, finally just give up. Most players don't do it. xx -
"Login Protection Period" of 10 seconds or until you move.

Yeah Zod - and getting kicked 5 times in a row - every time I go on to check if the 1-player admin is really still around or if he's asleep at the keyboard (he's one of THOSE) so I can use his own grenades on all his 9 tents - after loading all that ammo and the stuff I want to keep in his 4 trucks and driving them into the debug plains.. {sigh} the waiting can be long.. [you know who I mean] {edit I'm joking about ZOD he is the sweetest and most cuddly General ZOD in the Multiverse, he wouldn't hurt a fly - he HELPS flies..} * Seriously, while the screen is still black, you're not in play, right? Then as you 'fade in' - first you see the hot bar, then your controls just start working as the scene comes up to full brightness, and for a second or so you're vulnerable and cant move too good.. Isn't that the danger moment we are talking about? I don't think your avatar gets put in place first, and then kind-of-afterwards the connection is made to your controls and screen. I've never been shot or mauled by a zombie WHILE the screen was still black, but I have been attacked as soon as the scene first starts fading in. ?? But, you cant have a "button" to start play or else you'd be able to log in (invisible) and see who was there, load ammo, aim at the guy's head, press "start play" and blow him away. -
Make sure to report public servers that kick for no reason
pilgrim* replied to aurien's topic in General Discussion
I suggest you ask BI directly about this. BI makes games and is not a server provider. BI does not run or hire game instances. BI has published information on their agreement with the SPs (the agreement was made before persistence was introduced). Please take the trouble to find it and read it. Then you will be in a position to make a helpful contribution. The number of 'official' servers made available by the SPs is proportionate to the number of hired instances. This is in the agreement. Now - this thread is on Reporting Public Server Abuses: SPs do not provide an admin for 'official' servers. Therefore there is no admin abuse on 'official' servers. However, SPs allocation or reallocation and maintenance of their 'official' servers is highly automated. Therefore there is no guarantee of persistence on 'official' servers. If any part of this information is wrong, please point out the factual situation. No I am not "trolling". I would like players to understand and have the information they need to form an opinion. I hope this information will help to reduce public server abuse and make the game more enjoyable for everyone. xx pilgrim -------------- Take the time to overview Server Provider operation, staffing, and their interest in the administration and design of all functions internal to the game software, on the virtual servers they provide (e.g. game-play, admin abuse, persistence). Consider the special arrangements BI has agreed with the SPs in these areas and how they are implemented. thank you -

There is no agreement to maintain persistence on an 'official' server. The SPs agreed to provide a number of 'official' servers (agreement with BI) There was no agreement that 'official' IP addresses would remain the same. The SP hires out all the 'official' game instances on one hardware server Hiring is automatic, by location. The SP opens a new hardware server and installs a set of instances They are not hired out yet, they are 'official' They have new IPs. The SP has kept it's agreement with BI The 'official' serve you played yesterday is hired out (info wiped) Today it is hired to an admin (private or public) The 'instance' still has the same IP and port number. No SP human action is needed to reset (wipe) a game instance. Somewhere - there is a new 'official' server with a different IP It is vanilla (persistance wiped) The SP has kept its agreement with BI ------------------------ [edit] any of the six blocks of text above can mean; "official server player you just lost all your stash" -

emuthreat ! The SP hires a hardware server and puts a set of DayZ games on it Each game is called an 'instance' and each one has an IP and a port address The SP gives each one of those games a standard name and number OK - at first the games are what you call 'official' because they have not been hired out to a paying client. That is exactly what 'official' means. Now - the SP hires out some of those DayZ instances So now they are public servers hired by an admin They still have the same standard name and number that the SP gave them They still have the same IP and port address The admin can can keep the name the SP gave it, if he wants to You can't tell by the name unless the admin changes it You cant tell by the IP So how do you know when you are on an 'official' server ?
