Up-to-date Gun Comparison: CR527 vs IZH 18?
pilgrim* replied to tatchell (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Well: You just found a loaded sawn off in the middle of some battle and you grab it and get out of the way, you also got 1 can of ruined beans.. (that's all..) but you survived past your spawn NOW up country a while later you have found a .22 rifle AND in the next bedroom a full mag - (lucky dude) And at this moment you are searching through some houses at the edge of town, looking for something a little better before you go big time And you wonder to yourself: "If I edge through that doorway and (bad luck) a kitted guy with an assault rifle comes running through face to face the other way - which do I want in my hand ? The .22 or the Sawn Off ? This is not a "problem" about the game - it is a "decision" you have to make IN the game. Myself, I'd rather have the sawn off.. ( either obrez or shotgun I don't much care) - I won't have the time to to pull the trigger more than once. Other folk will have different opinions - that's fine too. xx -
I'm not for it: this would have to include checking wolves, bear, deer, and rabbits.. (you do know how to sex a rabbit, right?)

How about some static unmovable barrels in some towns?
pilgrim* replied to Me1andMe2's topic in Suggestions
The barrels are spawn objects like any other loot (this goes for tents too) so once the server's set number of that object has spawned, no more will spawn until the number in play goes down. If you put stuff INSIDE barrels or tents, that stuff is NOT counted in the total spawn for the server loot-economy, so that stuff will go on spawning (things inside stashes and carried by players are not included in the spawn count) But barrels and tents are not inside a stash. Once the limit is reached, the set number is in-play on the server (hidden by players) and no more will spawn unless those are taken to another server or destroyed, or left untouched for so long that they despawn. If you are on a private server, there is no chance of them being taken away to another server, right? The number in-play will not go down fast. So the way to find them is search for the barrels and tents already hidden by other players. When enough are hidden the spawn points will dry up. xx (if I'm wrong about this, someone please tell me, thanx) -
Server stopped once when I was at the top of the Green Mountain tower When I logged back in I fell through the floor inside the tower, down all that ladder, Took about 2 seconds - was hard to tell but I seemed to bounce a bit on the way down Ended up alive in a closed hidden room at the base of the tower. Took me an hour to get out through the wall corner (almost gave up, only the adrenaline caused by fear and horror kept me alive) So there is ONE thing that happens on Green Mountain. That concrete room is probably knee deep in ghosts of dead players who starved or killed themselves in there. After a couple of similar, less drastic experiences - upstairs in the school building for instance - I don't log out upstairs anywhere, ever, or even inside buildings. Why risk it? Also the stairs inside the castle towers used to be hairy - don't know if they have got better or if I have got used to dealing with them? xx

I just yesterday found 14 barrels stocked together around a forest tree in the NORTH West - FAR to the WEST someone put them there, so why say "nobody goes up north" ? Last Week I found 3 barrels together full of ammo..(fairly mid North, FAR from the coast, FAR from cities). When I see tents (NW and the West) I go away from them; I scope out hidden vehicles from a distance. I don't need a truck or any gear so why look for trouble? Players put all this stuff there. Players in the North and in the West. Small and medium villages North of the "great north road" are always looted, from the West side of the map all the way back to the East, every day of the week (I mean every village and individual house and wrecked car in that whole area). Always. On every map I have played, Private or Public, mini-pop or max 50/50 players. It is not a surprise - to find a half-rebuilt car in any quiet village street up there. (to me it's a warning) ALSO In all the FAR WEST of the map - from the SW corner all the way to the NW - it is "normal" - not a surprise - now to see military fully kitted-armed players with vehicles (apart from the military tent camp that whole area used to be occupied mainly by hunters) Now it is difficult and more dangerous to hunt in that area, shots attract killers. MY game style is that I keep eyes out, move carefully, use cover, and I usually try to AVOID meeting other players.. this is getting MORE difficult to do. I know other players have a similar style, i see evidence of them as I pass. It is not "uncommon" gameplay. Even on a map with less than 10 players (as well as on a map with 40+ players), you can NOT be sure everyone is death-matching in a city or all crowding round a military base. If you think so, you are in danger. The WEST edge of the map is too crowded for me now, so I have been looking for new safer routes and areas to hang out. But so have a lot of other players. ( hey, player X, if you read this - I left your 14 barrels where they were, OK ?) Enjoy. == Of course - if players want to death-match, they must get their military gear from somewhere.. Everyone always finds out in every game ever made where the gear-up places are. You know where to find the BFG, right? (did you ever not know, in any game?) So it is no surprise some player-styles are attracted there. If you are looking for a crowd of players, you know where to go. But be careful in the North and the West, it not so empty as you think, and maybe some of the players up there are smarter ? Be happy if you don't meet anyone. xx pilgrim

Up-to-date Gun Comparison: CR527 vs IZH 18?
pilgrim* replied to tatchell (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
There really are a whole heap of different shirts and shoes and hats that have the same properties. But also there are some clothes not waterproof, or warmer, or they have more pockets, or they are not camo, or they are loud colors, some clothing can be torn into rags or repaired, some can't. ... some are bright yellow AND waterproof ( did I already mention that?).. Some players love the green rubber boots but other players don't like them. if two things are "the same" but one is "better" than the other then obviously at least one of them should be taken out of the game. On the other hand, if all "hunting rifles" could be replaced by RPG7s. this will make hunting easier ATM - as long as plenty spawn in shooting stands. :) Variety is great = players like different stuff for different reasons or they make do with what they've got - plain shirt / check shirt - myself I like the plain green, but I wouldn't be seen dead in the red check shirt unless I only had one shirt. -
a couple of mine heads & winding-gear would be scenic too. Cable cars are a fine idea, looks OK. Only a technicality - but don't you need mountains for these things (it's traditional)?
-
If you were with friends [ or close to the coast ] you could maybe just hold it and throw yourself out? they could catch you. .. or park your car at the bottom and do it this way
-
I'm a crazy radical to say this (but everyone already knows that): there is plenty of MAP besides the airfield - you could go for a long look AROUND.. there are MILES of map in every direction, including mil camps, barracks, police cars, armored convoys, tents and barrels (found one barrel of loot in an outside toilet), stashed away repaired trucks FULL of gear, plus geared up players looking for trouble, and civilian villages that spawn stuff that is listed as "military"/"police". Tell ya the truth, since the last patch I'm having REALLY a Good Time... i just keep away from airfields and everythin is Wunnerful..

Anyone else experiencing a frozen screen, but still able to hear your character move around? CTRL ALT DEL necessary when it occurs.
pilgrim* replied to Grimey Rick's topic in Troubleshooting
4 or 6 times this patch I've had the screen go black wall to wall (so no mouse, no popup bar, nothing) My player is still in the game, can hear him move, can reload etc - I lie him down flat (he's usually somewhere shit when this happens) then have to C-A-D, stop DayZ, stop STEAM, restart everything to get back in. & 3 or 4 times the screen has frozen on the server select list, but I never gave that much thought. These things only happened since the last patch, not before (not blaming anything) No idea of the cause - I thought it was my card overheating or some local glitch.. really no idea. you are the first to mention it. xx -
Oh yes ya can Best way with any object is - get close to the top of the ladder, directly facing it, crouch down, first person view, aim to throw the object through the middle of the doorway, aiming at about the mid top half of the opening. I'm not sure you can throw anything out across the wooden barrier around a stand - but I ain't tried much because the doorway works so easily. Just watch where it lands (it can roll or slide or hide in undergrowth, might go a short or a long distance) and if it lands in a tree you're screwed. It might not work on the first throw but it's easy to get the aim if you try a couple of times. Interesting thing, J0nathan, if you practice, you can throw objects clean out of the door and leave them hanging in the air outside the stand, a foot or so out from the top of the ladder. However, IMO it is truly very difficult to throw barrels out of hunting stands (for a reason that is obvious, if you try) - someone could make a video about that? Seriously, chainsaws are not so obvious - get close to the edge. It is about 50/50 if you throw it out or fall out yourself. Practice by throwing everything you find out of shooting stands. Fairly often, if you throw the stuff out, one or two new loot will spawn; usually a beanie . :) xx pilgrim

Pick it up in your hands Put yourself in first person so you can see better Throw it out - make sure you see where it goes, climb down and collect it. xx

TENTS and PERSISTENCE, Keep-Out PUBLIC SERVERS and THE DEVS
pilgrim* replied to pilgrim*'s topic in Suggestions
A normal average server has a population of 15 players, tops I do not want BI to alter spawn rates on servers that have a standard population. Do not imagine that because you have 40 slots they should all be full. When I did the Saturday Evening count I found that 60% of users were playing on servers with 7 players or less For the numbers of players: I posted the statistics of players I counted on line on Saturday Night 15/12/2015 - 1800h Europe: https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/230682-make-sure-to-report-public-servers-that-kick-for-no-reason/page-3#entry2327990 It comes down to - nearly every Public server had between 7 and 15 players online.. About 60% of players were on serves of 7 or less. This average is brought down by the many 1-2 player serves included in the calculation (of course) Most honest Public servers seemed to be running at at TOP rate of 15 players Only 40 public servers (out of 450) had more than 15 players, but just a small handful of those servers were 40/40 So I am not intending to knock servers with 7-15 players. Those are NORMAL Public servers. I call them "medium" servers and anything above 15 is already entering "high-pop" We need to do something about the many 1-2 player "no-entry" public servers. I am trying to help honest server admins and help normal players, definitely not wreck their game: make it better and fairer. SO - there is no problem - no change - for normal population Public servers with the normal number of players - which is between 7 and 15 players on Saturday night in Europe at present. ( aside: Notice back at the top of the thread I explained my outline idea could also help encourage players to join 1pp servers, that's an added plus) * * * OK - About "policing" the Public servers, the 'badmins' Way back I started suggesting this same solution you put forward - of policing by a pro admin working for BI and checking complaints. I haven't heard anything back from BI or from the SPs on this subject (more than a year). No comment at all, except to follow the rules for complaints to the SPs. One problem is that the game is being played around the world in all time-zones 24/24, so one or two people would have crazy working hours (many people play long after office hours, right?). They 'admin checkers' have to be reliable themselves of course, so they must be employees I guess. But I thought this solution was worth considering. Maybe there is a way around that. The second (BIG)problem is that even if a public server is closed, that server admin loses nothing for it.. he does not lose any money paid up front..(terms of agreement) and he can immediately open another server with the same company, for the same price, same terms, in a couple of minutes - and go on doing exactly the same thing, and he can even give his new server the same name. I spoke about this stuff here (for instance): https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/230682-make-sure-to-report-public-servers-that-kick-for-no-reason/page-2#entry2327303 but I have talked about this for 2 years. I don't disagree with your idea of having an official BI general admin to check player complaints about Public servers - just that I have NEVER heard any word back about that idea. (Just in passing - not even ONE mod on this forum have ever given me ONE beanz for proposing an "official" Public moderator - that is their choice of course ) - My SERIOUS view is that it is never going to happen. End of story. I do not know why - I am sure it has been discussed at BI, but I have zero information, just the LONG SILENCE that tells it's own tale ... right? That's 100% all I know about that subject. Because I realized the SPs are NOT going to help, and that their sanctions against badmins are completely ineffective - and because i realized BI are NOT going to police the servers themselves. Hey - I came up with an idea that BI could set up - as an experiment - to see how they could affect the UNFAIR play that is making the game worse for +60% of DayZ players. Just one or two spawn modifications, rarity values.. (the sort of thing that happens all the time in the normal schedule). It is an idea based on the old Central Loot Economy and the reason for Public Hive Servers Now both those are up and running, pretty solid, and the earlier problems fairly ironed out. This is an opportunity to try some economic statistics in loot management. That is exactly what the CLE is FOR ============= ps when you say I have multiple camps and stashes set up on the server - Loot is now scarce - New players to the server will be driven away by said scarcity well (firstly your server is not the aim of the exercise, because it is a normal sever) but This is like saying there is no point going to a server with a working helicopter because someone already owns it.. if the loot is in a tent or in a barracks what is the real difference? 1 ) same quantity of loot = same game fun, the loot is in different places but it is still on the map 2 ) less serve hoppers = more tent searchers = more players who stay a longer time on the server For a 1-2 person "no-entry" server - the admin is exactly the person who does not want players coming to his server looking for his safe loot. That's why he kicks them. Also, if the "no entry" servers are opened up, then we all know those servers have big stashes of tents, right? We can go and hunt there instead of being kicked out. good luck, & thanks for the intelligent comments (it's good to know someone thinks about this) xx pilgrim -
Sorry - I used to be ok and fairly sane for a survivor but then I started going up Green Mountain alone at night... ya know?;.. then one night ... it all started off normal. .. but ... OK.. I guess you don't need to know about THAT Back on topic: I agree with Red_Ensign Or get a screwdriver and lever the key right out of your keyboard and put an X of red tape over the hole, and don't ever point guns at your own head, and if you think you are about to DIE by your own hand do not "mash the keyboard" to see if anything good happens, and learn in a game what the keys are for before you press them. And if you think you are making a terrible mistake remember to ask someone before you do it, never forget you have a mobile phone, a house phone, Google, Skype, Medics of The Wasteland, the DayZ forums, the Dayz Wiki, youtube, friends around the house, your kid brother, or one of HIS friends, DayZtv, DayzDB, and Twitter. AND if you DO make a terrible mistake remember < you will always know better next time > xx

TENTS and PERSISTENCE, Keep-Out PUBLIC SERVERS and THE DEVS
pilgrim* replied to pilgrim*'s topic in Suggestions
1 ) <<there are too many ways for people to cheat their stash into impossible to get places>> What is the bug report number on this problem? How long ago did you report it? How often is is it mentioned in other threads? 2 ) <<the public hive is a silly idea anyway>> The Public Hive is what started DayZ. It is a design decision. The majority of DayZ players are on Public Hive. Private Servers only attract a small fraction of the players - Add up the figures, they are easily available and it does not take long. thanx for the info: If you know a way to glitch tents and barrels to make loot stockpiling safe,on Private Servers (and on Public) - then BI should be told. the aim of this thread it to make loot distribution fair, and less open to abuse xx pilgrim -
TENTS and PERSISTENCE, Keep-Out PUBLIC SERVERS and THE DEVS
pilgrim* replied to pilgrim*'s topic in Suggestions
Please keep server hopping subjects out of this thread - there are many threads about server hopping and threads about limiting movement between Public Servers. THIS is NOT about those subjects, thanx Espa.. This thread is about ONE problem = being kicked from Public Servers abusively, and what BI can do about it. Abusive Public Server admins know that they are not sanctioned by Service Providers. They may "lose their server" but they lose no money they lose no time they are not listed, they can open another Public server within minutes, they can give the new server the same name as the last one. The worst thing that can happen to them - is they have to spend 5 minutes at their keyboard to hire a new server - for no extra cost - and have it running immediately. But even this level of sanction never happens. From within the game, BI can deal with this abuse more effectively than the SPs. -
TENTS and PERSISTENCE, Keep-Out PUBLIC SERVERS and THE DEVS
pilgrim* replied to pilgrim*'s topic in Suggestions
I understand your point ColdAtrophy There are two different subjects here 1 ) Public Server misuse exists, it is documented.. it is a common problem. We both agree on this, right? 2 ) There is no reason at all BI would want to penalize an honest public server for having the standard average number of players - why would they (or anyone) want to do that? FIFTEEN players is about AVERAGE or slightly above, for the number of players on Public Servers that do NOT kick. Elsewhere I have given the full statistics for a night's play in my area (Western Europe) These are simply statistics, including all Public Severs I can observe. You can check these numbers yourself. The AVERAGE across all Public servers is closer to SEVEN players per server, because MANY Public Servers have only one or two players (this is because those DO kick = fact checked) and also a small handful of public serves have 40/40 players (but there are not many of these in Western Europe) My survey includes (mainly) France, UK, Spain, Belgium, Holland Germany and the Nordic Countries. The average across the board for Public Serves is 7. I think you are saying that an honest Public Server has difficulty filling its slots? My MEANING is that IF an administrator lets "more players" play on his 1-2 player Public Server THEN he will have more than one or two players on his kick server (without difficulty) and his spawn rate will rise when he is not hording safe loot. Also I pointed out that I am NOT suggesting "penalizing" (punishment). I am suggesting a fairer loot spawn system to make kick serves non-profitable. In what way would this affect your honest normal-population Public Server? There is no reason BI would want to penalize an honest public server for having the standard average normal number of players - why would they do that? There are several spawn adjustments that can be made by BI to make one or two player servers less profitable. We know why these serves exist, we know why their admins laugh at the SP 'sanctions'. The most obvious BI action is to include stashed loot in the spawn rate calculation. On an honest server, the same quantity of loot will still be in game, players will be able to search for tents, they will still find loot, stashed as well as in standard spawn points. Of course loot in tents will not de-spawn, but it will be included in the total spawn calculation. This is not a problem. When the 'normal' spawn of rare objects goes down, players will know there are rare objects on the map in very large or multiple loot stashes. Searching for tents has always been part of the gameplay, right? And if stashed loot is taken off the sever, it will no longe be included in the server spawn calculation, of course. Do you have any other theory why there so many Public Servers with only 1 or 2 players? IF you spend an evening - or even an hour - going though your local server list and LOG ON to every Public server that has 3 or less players, you WILL find that most of these servers will kick you rapidly. If you live in France or Western Europe,I can send you a list of 26 Public servers that have a ping less than 50 in my area, and kick all other players. This list is THIS WEEKS list that I noted while I was trying to find a low ping honest daylight Public Server to PLAY.. I was Not looking for trouble or scandal, you understand. if I deliberately logged on to all the 1-2 player Public servers just to check if they DO kick, the list would be much longer = rough calculation, 80+ servers out of 240 = 30%, but I think this is a LOW figure, there are more IMO.. perhaps up to 50%. thanx xx pilgrim This is not a solution, it is a suggestion. -
Around sunset in Stary Sobor, or by a campfire up on Green Mountain survivors tell traditional tales: A man went to his friend and said "Lend me your bicycle! In the market place I met Death who made a sign to me, so I wish to ride as quickly as possible to Samarra, to escape from him" This man did not know that between Life and Death there is less distance than the thickness of one hair. But Samarra is completely off the map. So his friend said "No problem I will lend you my bicycle. Please write a suicide note first, because this is traditional. And it is a good bicycle but difficult to clean afterwards. Yet there is one thing you must do for me." "I shall do as you wish" "You must not ask any living creature why there is an F12 key on the handlebar." "Why, my friend?" "I cannot reply - but Death will tell you when you reach Samarra: Death has many bicycles."

Indeed - for In the past, wise men taught that Life and Death are two different Locations

:) I meant that rifle is rare ATM. :) the vest kind of reminded me of the natural leather storage vest we can craft in game now it's in Tatanko's hunting style I think.. goes with the cap http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Natural_Leather_Storage_Vest

Vehicles (and wheels) – spawn, despawn, persistence
pilgrim* replied to Kirov (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
sorry to interrupt .. can you really set fire to a bus by shooting pointed wooden sticks at it with a crafted bow? that's so cool! -
Very nice (as expected) beanz Hey - in the first photo, what is that rare rifle you're carrying? And isn't that one of those neat animal-hide crafted leather jackets? (But you still favor the same headgear, I notice) :) Let the story continue ..

Standard camo netting..; it is a normal military item - can cover vehicles, barrels, tents, or make a hide with a tripod or a couple of sticks. This can spawn in-game or can be crafted from fishing net - both in fact. Reduces visibility greatly. Cut smaller pieces from the military camo netting it to craft your ghillie stuff, or join together several pieces of fishing net to craft one large vehicle/tent size camo net Second option = stain or spray the tents (and stash-barrels) - why not spay-paint a barrel green, black or camo combination, is that a problem? Also, most real tents will take 2 or 3 diagonal stripes of black or green without falling to pieces.. same principle = this breaks up the outline (crafting again) Pile a few green pine branches against a tent (or pile branches against barrels) - three or four green pine branches will break the outline and the color of a tent to make a big difference (Note: this has to be programmed into the tent color, as 'crafting' or else from a distance pine branches will look like bare sticks. IRL - myself, wearing a mountain pack with a bright colored stripe down the back , I would FIRSTLY rub dirt in it, AND if noit effective, then spraypaint a couple of green zags across the bright color it (this will not ruin the backpack at all, I swear) and add some dirt in the paint, OR just hang or tie a spray of green pine branch over the back of it. Tie a bit of netting over the top and thread in a handful of foliage. Netting - as well as tents or barrels, you can cover helmets and headgear, and add greenery - you can wear a simple hang of netting over your head - held in place under any hat - just for face-shadow and to break the outline, or you can also add green plants, grasses, whatever. Note - there is no reason for creating full ghillie suit (unless you really want that degree of invisibility). To become less visible you need some netting over your face or head, and ideally a piece of netting across your backpack..thread in a few or strands of long grass or weed. Same for tents.= some sticks or rope and some greenery to weave in. Also - drab tents.. green tents, stone colored tents - you may have noticed, all the permanent military tents in the game are NOT bright blue. Where does the military get that stuff from? Hey, take a knife and cut the side out of a military tent, roll it up and take it away - or find tarpaulins on building sites or on the backs of trucks, Or use a couple of neutral colored blankets from civilian houses. (I have a problem about blankets - can't understood why there are NO Blankets in Chernarus - you can do so many things with a blanket and every house must have at least ONE, right?.. it's the thing you can guarantee to find. They are good for shelters, can be converted into ponchos, carrying stuff, hiding ground-stashes, making headbands, moving unconscious players, cutting strips for camo, covering barrels, making slings for wounds,or keeping you warm, .. ya know? A while ago there were threads on constructing shelters here on the Forum, with many design suggestions. Each crafted shelter is in fact a stash of one kind or another. At least half those suggestions could use a tent as a base for the structure. Tents should also be permitted under tree cover (under low branches) with only the front 2 feet (clear) forced to remain on bare ground.( - if at all technically possible - but not under water or in walls or rocks, ok?) * The rendering problem. if it is too difficult to change the color, shape, visibility, by crafting solutions, then yes, make them not render beyond a fixed distance, But this is a messy alternative IMO and will lead to all kinds of problems (firstly - this would definitely not be implemented before the new rendering engine IMO, and then might turn up unforeseen problems) xx pilgrim
