Map size and design, regarding player camps

^ Unfortunately, under the Rules - the easiest way to protect your tents, forts, vehicles etc is just to turn your server OFF when your clan is not on line. In case I'm wrong PLEASE tell me I'm wrong thanx xx pilgrim
  2. I'm sorry but I'm going to have to shoot you. What was the date of the last civil war in France, please? I know. I think Boneboys knows. I guess you'll have to look it up because you obviously don't know. (You know what a civil war is, I guess? - in the USA there has been 1 Civil War and 1 Revolution, following the standard definition (let's leave the Indian Wars out, ok, even though they weren't an "external enemy" according to modern accounts) - it's a John Cleese joke about being British, it's very amusing. xx
  3. 'scuse me - the French never HAD a civil war.. you probably mean the English or the Americans or the Russians, or maybe the Chinese xx
  4. You said two silly false things in a row ! Yes it's a problem, I agree. BUT I see that close to half the players online are on 1-3 player kick-servers - it has become extremely popular to exploit this weakness in the system. So it could be that if something were done about those servers, the honest servers would have their populations doubled? Unless maybe the "we-kick-clan" got so pissed off at not being able to exploit DayZ that they all gave up playing? But it is ATM a mass population game, I think very many people would be ready to play fairly when the great advantage of playing unfairly were taken away from them. I'm not saying this will happen in this way. I have no idea if fair-play populations will go up when bad admins are weeded out. BUT I am certainly not trying to close down fair-play Public Hive servers. there has to be a way through this, with some thought. BI have total control over the loot economy. It is exactly the loot economy that governs and guides player actions.. Control of the economy means you decide what is worthwhile and what is not, what is rare, how many items you can carry, how many you can stock in a barrel.. how many barrels there are per server. Even how many of the SAME items can be stored in one tent (for instance) .. The Devs control where, when, why, what, spawns, at what rate, how rare, how it is stored, how long it lasts. BI own all that totally. They can do what they like with it. so if they wanted to make a move to end this abuse .. which I am told they do not ATM (!?) the loot economy would be a good place to start. There will be ways that economy be used to disadvantage the exploiters. In any Alpha game, a fundamental structural weakness that opens up widespread easy exploit play must be addressed immediately. Particularly in the Alpha stage - right a the start as soon as it is noticed. This serious structural flaw is destroying the game while it is still in In Alpha - it has to be dealt with as high priority. Otherwise your game is wrecked before it gets out of Alpha, it is already too late. I guess games designers know that xx
  5. Sorry to reply so late to your post cash81 but I am afraid you are mistaken: Please check: You will see the server you reported is still running with the same IP and another name. You have no way of knowing if the admin is the same or not. GSPs do not close client accounts when their account holders kick players from DayZ sorry to be so blunt xx pilgrim
  6. [explanation edited out] this will not happen xx

Kicking from Vilayer server IS ALLOWED.

'scuse - that was the bit I didn't understand Because - people who play on private hives and restock in 2 minutes cant take that gear to public hives. So when you say "private hives" I guess you mean - "public hives where the admin kicks everybody so he can use it just like a private hive - but then he can also go play on other public hives when he's geared up from his safe stash"
  8. You highlight the game you want to play You click Details You take a screenshot with the STEAM screenshot key Then you play Now you have a permanent list of ALL the details of each server you play on - they are in order and dated. ( full IP - server name - number of players - it's all there stored for whenever you need it ) OK
  9. Development means that patches and changes will happen - I am OK about that. Of course. but half way through 'persistence' the game broke its spine. BI lost control of the Public Hive I'm not angry, I'm saying this because [i'm depressed] it is a pity to see so much effort go down the drain. The game itself has become just one more exploit game on the heap; There are plenty: DayZ failed to keep control of the Public Hive and it has become another game on that pile. That's the new fun in playing - There is a list of dried, failed, exploit games that still exist for their exploit fun. * What is the advantage of following the Public Server Rules? = zero What is the disadvantage of breaking the Public Server Rules? = zero BI has lost control of the Public Hive - BI tried hard, but they did NOT win. (even sadder because the Public Hive itself is 100% owned by BI, not by the SPs) GSPs legally will not ever close a client account because of something that happens inside a game (that includes kicking) Shutting a server = closing the client account. Same thing. The SPs will never close a client account because of a complaint from a player. Check the law. Now the Public Server exploit is a standard joke (everywhere except here) Anyone and your mate, rent a Public Hive Server, you kick everyone; you do what the hell you like, you farm it, and you can still go across the Public Hive to collect loot and to PVP. This is like having your own LOCAL server running your game for 3-5 players PLUS when you want, you can mess around on the other servers too The gear you generated privately at home works anywhere in the world. Doesn't matter what happens to you on other servers, you hop bases, you get killed, so what? You log back to your own kick-server full of free food, free vehicles, and free gear. Do it as much as you like. The players who say "play fair" are laughed at. Who one cares about them online? This is not a place for "fair play" people - go find some other game. This is an exploit game. It could have been a great game. At the end, a few dedicated players will run 'a few' private-list servers and it will be a minority game. xx pilgrim
  10. Well - last week I had FOUR Public Hive servers I played regularly with 1 barrel on each of them. This Saturday evening: 2 of them are offline - I thought those 2 were "official" from two different SAs but I guess I was mistaken.. they are being moved to new owners, or the owners have turned them off for the weekend (Public admins have the right to do that). One came online with a new name then went off again. 1 of them is online with a ping of 66 but my FPS on that server is between 3 to 7 FPS in the middle of the forest - I don't know what is going on there. And the 4th one kicked me as soon as I joined (thanks guys, whoever the hell you are) SO I HAVE ONE BARREL LEFT OUT of FOUR - do I give a damn about those stashes? NO of course not I just wanted to say, I understand the problem you guys are talking about. * * * so my 'playable' list is screwed again (sure, I can search some more ,but it's 3am) The solution? A friend has to contact me to say "here is ONE public server that is honest" - it is on the next continent. I think we are not winning xx pilgrim
  11. thanx for that ColdAtrophy it's now 3am here in Europe and and I played 20 mins on a USA server - ping of 155 to SchwaBAM's seriously - thank you But .. ya know .. can anyone tell me what the Public Hive is FOR any more? It is just a cheap way of getting a private server for yourself ? OK so the system has fallen to bits SA has become another in the list of EXPLOIT games It is sad to see that BI have lost control - after they put in so much effort

    Some decent suggestion

This is maybe off topic? Every real-life action helmet-camera engagement I have seen, the fighting soldier drops the empty mag when he loads a fresh one. He leaves it on the ground. No one pockets a mag or picks up an empty while under fire. Point me to video examples if I missed out, I've never seen anyone do that. But in DayZ an empty mag jumps by itself right back into the middle of your backpack? - while you are fighting? - this is strange. In DayZ the empty mag should fall to the ground when you eject it - then you have the choice of picking it up, or leaving it there, or looking for it later. I think this would change players attitudes to firefights.

    Dev team, take some notes

I am not criticizing this game SFR, but you ought to read about it yourself before posting, then you can explain this to me: http://www.escapefromtarkov.com/ bullet point # 22 No need to worry about death - you will not lose anything of your main character. maybe the EFT devs didn't mean that at all - they just said it and I missed the point no prob. xx
  14. [threads brought together] A Public Hive server admin will sometimes not change the serve name given him by the SP, so the server still has an "official sounding" name: DayZ EU 3-xxx - Hosted by Villayer.com - Persistence Enabled DayZ EU 2-xxx (Public/Veteran) 131009 - Hosted by GameServers.com These two real examples are both kick servers,(14/Jan/2016). I have altered the country code and server number myself, for the example (because this is not a complaint, it is an explanation). When you log-in you are kicked, even though they are Public Hive Servers. The game admins have not changed the name string,so these look as though they "official" servers. And a good number of Public Hive servers with obvious changed names, also kick - of course - (still against the rules). In my region there are quite a lot of Public Hive servers that do not let players join. Admin abuse is common. Seven of the servers in my DayZ favorite list are down tonight - the STEAM list says they are "offline". So this evening I had to search around to find a place to play. I ended up not playing... so forget it for tonight, maybe some other day.. I logged in to a server I played all this patch - got kicked after 2 mins.. nah, this is getting old.. It is not unusual to be kicked from a Public Hive server (often an "autokick" is operating) or to be kicked after 5 or 15 minutes play. Plenty of Public Hive server names openly tell players "dont join" you are not welcome (this is against the naming rules) . BUT others do not say so: Also, server names are changed by the admins as often as they want (only the IP stays the same). And if an admin stops renting a server, it is rented out to someone else but it keeps the same IP. Today it may be Public Hive - fair and honest - but tomorrow the same IP may be "official", or "bad admin" or "Private" or "new good admin", or "whitelist or "keep out". So: Does anyone know if there is a list anywhere of the REAL 'official' servers, run by the SPs for players? On this forum the word 'official' is used to mean a server that has not been hired out to a user/admin. It is maintained at the SPs expense. I do not know if those servers still exist. Does anyone know of such a list? I don't know any way of checking Public Hive servers except logging in and seeing what happens. Many are loot farms. _______________ there is an official complaints procedure for unfair Public Hive server admin actions The "no join" gangs and kick admins on the Public Hive laugh openly about the complaints procedure (but not on this forum) rules

    Why I Kill on Sight

Not at all: Having gangs of real psychopaths in DayZ is great It is is MUCH MORE interesting than having computer generated psychopaths wandering around in the game. thanks for all your effort .freak xx pilgrim

Perhaps they're supposed to take note of: No need to worry about death xx that would certainly make a change

    Up-to-date Gun Comparison: CR527 vs IZH 18?

'scuse me M&M, weird scenarios is what Dayz is about.. so you 1-shot the guy accurately in his helmet and then he sprayed you, bad luck if you want a 100% pvp game, or you only want to pvp, there are better than this - look around; there are games where you can even choose your loadout. But no problem, if you set out to pvp with your weapons of choice in DayZ go right ahead, go and find those weapons and don't get shot on the way there. I have ZERO problem with the way you play. If you want to fight with baseball bats or snare rabbits that's 100% ok with me too.. really.. do what you feel. but in this game you start with no weapons, in your underwear, is that what you'd call normal pvp? How you deal with DayZ is your choice, the way I deal with it is my choice - I don't see any flag to capture, etc - you possibly think a fishing pole and an axe is more of a waste of time than an AK but suppose your AK has no ammo left?.. maybe you can poke the dude with your fishing pole? or maybe you have a spare gun in your mini damaged backpack But why would you be wearing a small backpack when you could be wearing a large one? Well - that's because you are playing DayZ - ALL the stuff that happens in this game are "scenarios" For your style of play, you have made an intelligent decision about what weapon you want if you can find it. You will find that other folk make other decisions and have other styles of play. Even in straight PvP - or IRL - it's sometimes worth remembering - an enemy you don't understand can be more dangerous than one who thinks the same as you. xx

How can we fix camping ?

https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/218621-about-the-environment/page-11#entry2267190 There has been a lot of discussion in the <About the Environment> section of Developer Discussion - worth looking through : some suggestions are going round for the 3d or 4th or 5th time (people forget or don't check) and some player ideas have been taken up and others have come from the Devs Also here is a random selection from the last couple of years (or 3) about mainly - trees, grass, forest and rendering. There are many more threads than these examples: April 2014 - https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/185396-save-the-trees-man-marginalized-wilderness/#entry1911375 May 2014 https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/191684-vegetation-draw-distance-increase/#entry1957589 March 2014 https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/181820-go-to-the-forest-of-trees/#entry1875574 Aug 2014 https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/206785-grass-is-worthless-eye-candy/#entry2073467 August 2014 https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/206662-no-more-towns/#entry2072449 April 2015 - https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/224576-please-stop-building-villages-everywhere/#entry2258081
  21. The Public Hive is designed so that players can move from one server to another - that is what it is for. (you know already, 'scuse me) But each server has a set quantity of each type of loot - so if someone brings more wheels into a server, less wheels will spawn in that server for a time. Same with barrels, if someone takes barrels out of a server, more barrels will spawn on that server because the total number in-play is less. OK - what happens to wheels and parts that are fitted to repair vehicles - I don't know.. Repairable vehicles can't change server (already), but how a set of tires is counted when they are attached to a vehicle, I can't say. The devs can tell you this. I guess if you take wheels away from one server, the total number there will be less and so more will spawn to keep to the set spawn rate for the Central Loot Economy. hey, on Private Hive Servers that example does not happen, because no one is leaving the server with barrels or wheels or other loot - when all the barrels are found as loot and hidden by players, then I guess no more barrels will spawn at the loot locations, because the full number is already in play (and barrels and tents don't despawn rapidly, unlike other loot left on the ground) The Central Loot Economy is supposed to keep the quantity of each loot type at around the same level (per server), decided by the Devs. It can be adjusted anytime from the BI office without having to send out a game update. So it is not a problem when players move loot from one server to another across the Public Hive Servers. Note: the player's own loot he carries or loot inside tents/barrels is not counted in the total loot spawn number. As it works right now, it is explained clearly here: https://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/223307-central-economy/#entry2243705

How can we fix camping ?

true - true.. but they were kind of smaller and a bit less tropical-fish-blue also you could put them half-way under tree cover - until that was stopped and you were forced to "auto-place" them right out in the open Strange thing, you can now do the same with the barrels as you could do originally with the tents in the Mod, Seems you can wedge barrels under trees so you can only just about target them OR you put them in too far in and then you can't pick them up or open them. I've found a couple of barrels that are easily visible from a distance, sticking up out of bushes, but cant be opened, targeted or seen in the inventory (NO way). BUT in the Mod i DID have a tent legally placed between a rock and a pine - right on the edge of the beach - and a thousand people must have walked past 12 feet from it without spotting it for a year. I don't think I could do that with a current SA tent, for sure. [- until one day the teleporting map-hackers came back (the last wave) and cleaned up every tent, vehicle, heli and boat across the map in 20 mins. ] xx pilgrim

How can we fix camping ?

This whole post made me think (from playing DayZ since the Mod and from the start of SA, Jexter has gained some interesting knowldge and experience he's scattered around this thread) : For people who never played the mod:the old "ground level" stashes were reasonably good places to hide things, they were harder to find than any tents. - they were like a shallow pit covered with branched and vegetation, so they looked like a slightly raised patch of forest ground, reasonably difficult to see from close up (unless you were searching), not obvious from a distance unless they were badly placed. If you did not have a location method or a remembered marker, you could miss your own stash by 15 feet and have to cast around for it - no one can say that about the tents. The ground stashes did not have a lot of storage space = for instance you could keep one gun and a handful of vital things in there. (or no gun and more stuff) - also they were "crafted" . When you needed one you could build it with a little effort. They worked So, I thought also - how about burying the oil drums ? If you have a spade you can bury the drum so only the top shows at ground level ?? that would make them more worthwhile (also they only need to be about half their current stash size, max) OK - J is right about that - in the Mod, I used stashes by preference whenever I needed them and only ever used tents in two well placed spots. The last one was found after more than a year of play by map hackers (and no one else). In the mod tents were half as big = 1 man low ridge tents (pup tents from Arma) and were camo colored. Even then with a lot more forest than SA, and denser forest too, they could be spotted easily unless you were really cunning, or lucky. xx
