Sorry BioHaze I thought you meant you wanted kids to access mainstream games with extreme horror and depravity in them the same way they can access 18+ movies depicting illegal and immoral acts ?? :)
-
ohhhh yes - aint it great now when sometimes you see 'young adults' and think << wow - that kid has got totally no idea what he's getting involved with.. heh >> but are they going to listen to ya? .. not a lot. "where yo're going to - I came back from there" :) Anyone want to explain why they need extreme graphic horror in their lives ?

If a 14 year old really-really wants to drink whiskey the kid will probably find a way to do it, but selling whiskey to 14-year-olds is illegal. Plenty of 15-year-old kids want to join the army but where we live there's a law says they can't. Some kids want to make bombs and other kids want to have sex. There are rules about all those kinds of things. Rules don't necessarily stop all under age-kids from shooting each other or having sex with strangers, or from getting in cinemas to watching adult movies; But it is still kind of good to have the rules, dont you think?

Is there any hope left? Please tell there is!

Yes Perhaps this is because BI makes specialist minority appeal games - but now they have a mass market game and they do not have the structure or the tradition needed to deal with the mass market. Look at the marketing effort - and cost - of any other AAA game. An example - outside the gaming world but high profile and easy to understand - Disney spent 30% of the total film budget on marketing (hype) for Star Wars VII. This is a standard approach. The content of a product is "ok/fairly important" but your pitch and you target are much MORE important. The sales and the public feeling about a game depend 98% on how much you pay for advertising, NOT on what is in the game. I'm certain we would be happier with regular full page ads and plenty of internet hype paid for by BI, under full-time professional PR direction, and a gag on the comment from technical staff - who normally have zero understanding of marketing at all. = IMO :) A pro PR team could have deliberately continued the Mod "good feeling" right up to to the present day. This is what PR is for. xx -

I am probably naive and dumb (eh) but - what is wrong with playing the game the way it is now? Why is everyone looking for some perfect future state? future perfection does not exist. This is the perennial (everlasting) myth of human history .. oh yes I enjoy the game, AND people make comments and suggestions and discuss stuff, and I also enjoy watching the game develop. This makes it even more interesting - it makes no difference if changes come fast or slow. When it is finalized and published in the Collector's Boxed Edition it will not change anymore, and so it will be that much less interesting. Everyone knows what happens to games. When they are complete they are played for a year or three, then dropped. People move on to the next game. So why not enjoy it now .. DayZ is a pretty damn good game, right? :) ___________________________________________________________________ 173.199.94.27:2302 << = THE HELPY HELPERS: FOR MERCY OR MAYHEM >> Play on an honest public hive server. Enjoy -
<<the way this game is meant to be experienced>> BI sells DayZ with the public hive included as part of the package. You can buy DayZ and play it on line without having to join any private server, without any other conditions. The public hive comes with the game. That's the deal.

[Opinion] High Pop/Low Pop Risk Imbalance
pilgrim* replied to [DGN] Johnny's topic in General Discussion
Interesting ideas DGN Johnny I had some ideas on server balance a while back. Mine were about loot. I noticed that most low pop servers in my ping area were kick severs on the public hive, exploiting the lack of enforcement of the server rules. I did some off-the-cuff math on this (statistics) to see how it was changing the game. This exploit messes up the idea of "loot economy" and enables about 30% of players to play absolute PVP deathmatch without consequences. I suggested that BI has full control over the loot, even if they have zero control over enforcing server rules - so they can adjust the loot ratios and spawn to balance servers, to encourage the gameplay BI has designed in to DayZ, and to discourage the server exploits turning DayZ into another standard Shooter. Your interesting suggestions are in line with this, from a different angle. One problem that came up was - there ARE a few honest public-hive servers who worry about low population: they thought they would be penalized by any weighting system. It is important to understand that the AVERAGE public hive server population [Europe, friday evening] is SEVEN players or less; so if you see more than 7 players online you are on a high-pop server. xx p -
Yes - I think BI got leery of putting one container inside another because there were lag problems from nesting, as well as the space exploit (you call that a cheese?, heh). As soon as you make a possibility like that available, someone works out an exploit, so they keep things as simple as they can - I guess. For the same reason, guns are "big". At first BI did not intend to have 2 main weapons carriable - one on shoulder and 1 in hands - the system as it stands is a legacy from that early development idea ("standard rig" was one gun + 1 tool on shoulders and hands free); Of course IRL there's no reason why a survivor cant carry 2 rifles if he can carry 1 rifle and a spade but for gameplay you require a simple convention that works ok. As soon as both shoulder slots were available for rifles you'd have players carrying three rifles.. and etc.; guns are deliberately difficult to carry to force players to <choose> and live or die by their decisions to a greater extent. this is the aim of the game, right? IRL you can PILE stuff on the ground in the middle of your camp and it does not vanish, and you can butcher out a deer, put the meat in the skin to make a bag, and carry that with your backpack and gun .. and you can pick up a second backpack while you have one on your back, etc.. if you know how you can carry a wounded person, and you can certainly keep a prisoner in a car boot.. - but I see the main reason for keeping personal space options simple and limited.
-
The idea for the oil barrel is "you cant move a barrel when it has stuff in it" This rule makes life simpler if you think it through, it definitely is "DayZ logic" but anything else is open to exploiting. For the same reason, you cant stack containers inside each other to gain space.. the protector case originally had more space inside it than it occupied in a pack, so it saved you 2 places to use it. This was misused together with other container space, eg keeping a coat inside a coat pocket, and another coat inside that, and another inside that etc etc.. Result was severs started slowing down and crashing. so this was fixed to avoid the exploit. The result may be less realistic, but player abuse forced this decision.
-
There is already a difference between small objects and big objects - it is called "size" Also - IRL you can stack up 2000 - 3000 rifles anywhere at all and they do not vanish after a few minutes, yo' may have noticed this.
-
does this work with any other containers? If you can do it with a box why not with a barrel or backpack or vehicle storage (or cupboard or tent)?

this sounds a lot like a connection problem Quick Translation - I think Mstiteldayz says: " Hello, I bought a server fragnet.net site to customize it, I can not. 1 ) there is no loot on the server 2 ) lowest Ping 220 3 ) it takes a long time to connect to the server. at log in says: "Time-out servers". It takes 7-10 minutes to connect! No save on the server! Please help me solve this problem " [I hope this is slightly helpful?]

If you log in and PLAY the game, or watch youtube, or read the developer updates, or read this Forum AND Play (even ONCE in 2 years) - then you will have interesting real questions and you will find FRIENDS who will spend TIME helping you and discussing the game. LOG IN, watch, read, play.. join the community - spend just ONE or TWO hours of your OWN time and you will get all the HELP all the comment and all the discussion you want. Kichilron told you this 2 years ago.. right ? But these questions you put here are NOT real questions - you know it, I know it. Saying "I haven't logged in for 2 years are there vehicles? The game has problems is it ever going to be finished?" - is obvious simple fake crap. stop it. xx pilgrim

Hey dude - please READ THIS THREAD from 2014 : heheheh - you bullshit artist

Hi Camaban - how long were you playing today before you didn't notice any changes?

"I understand by the transcendental idealism of all appearances the doctrine that they are all together to be regarded as mere representations and not things in themselves, and accordingly that time and space are only sensible forms of our intuition, but not determinations given for themselves or conditions of objects as things in themselves. To this idealism is opposed transcendental realism, which regards space and time as something given in themselves (independent of our sensibility)." Kant [Critique of Pure Reason] 1781 Great, sneakydude - now that you have discovered you actually exist, can you make it back to the topic? xx

Changing the renderer is like changing the gearbox on a car - to you it looks nothing - but if you are a car freak you know this is major. A whole chunk of the software is being switched out and replaced. This would justify 0.6 even if there was no change or addition to any aspect of the gameplay at all. It is a major block of totally solid work.

Seems to me this thread is a deliberate TROLL thread started to see how active our new moderators are.. I cant see any other reason for it - It is the 1pp 3pp debate AGAIN, and if the OP was serious about arguing 1/3 - which he is obviously NOT - he could have contributed to any of the current threads on the topic. He says himself he expects the thread to be locked. So it's a Troll, it's a boring Troll, it is an "I am smarter than you" Troll - and in all the years since this forum started it would have been picked up by the Forum Moderators in an hour or so. It should have been moved (at least) This offends me, but what the hell. ATM very few players use this forum, hardly anyone logs in, the BI devs don't read it anymore, one or two long-time players look in from time to time, but hardly any. We do have a new forum moderator but he is not highly involved, re content. So now the forum is for you new incoming dudes. Enjoy it. It will not take long to destroy the Forum, if that's what you want. If you act stupid it will fall to bits. Perhaps, bottom line, that is what BI wants ? I agree it was dumb of me to say so LOUDLY this is a Troll thread. I am not a Moderator. And as far as I am concerned (really) you can go on putting bananas up each other's bums for as long as you like. xx pilgrim

Most clans on the public hive have a kick-server for looting up, so they don't go to other servers to loot, only to PVP. Now there is generally not as much action in high loot areas as there was when the clans were honest players. As well as the server-exploit there is the famous duping exploit. These two together mean much less movement in high loot areas. And if you play on a private hive you don't get many surprises about who is where.

Keep sending in abuse reports to the GPs - as Boneboys used to say when he moderated this forum. And IMO send the same reports up to BI too. I am convinced BI are NOT going to act on this; they don't have the leverage or the agreements in place. They do not have any power in this area and the GPs are CERTAINLY not going to act. Look back at my analysis of the structure, funding and staffing of GPs to see why they do not enforce the "kicking" rule, and why it would be impossible for them to act even if the WANTED to (which strongly they do not). The public hive server exploit makes scarcity and survival meaningless in DayZ for anyone who plays on public hive servers. A large number of DayZ users play this way, taking advantage of the server exploit, because they CAN play this way. BI have lost their control over the use of the public hive. It is being misused systematically and extensively. We all know this. BI are in a hole about this and they don't want to talk about it. Of course BI would have made a statement about the situation right here on this forum, if they intended to make a public statement at all. xx War Reporter
