Something every new player should know before starting
pilgrim* replied to GlasgowGamingGuy's topic in New Player Discussion
You play DayZ to die Remember when the endgame of DayZ was - you DIE ? The point of DayZ was how long you can stay alive BEFORE you die The stats were up in Figures on the home page - " DayZ average life expectancy today = 16 minutes 12 seconds " It's OK calling it a "survival" game, but it is a game about how you DIE, because you will DIE, and the only question is how long you can put off that moment. I'd say, if a good and lucky and experienced player can put off death (on average) for a week or even several weeks, its still a good game, if everyone can put off death pretty easily for a month or two - it's not xxp -
How to find SNIPER Equipment FAST and EASY
pilgrim* replied to Berezino1's topic in New Player Discussion
this seems like a good plan -
To teleport in DayZ you must reach a speed of 88 MPH - to do this, climb up the tallest ladder you can find and jump off. You will be teleported to a new location but without your clothes. Do this until you find your friends.

In some ways this is a difficult game (ok, that's what I say - let's see who agrees or disagrees). DayZ is unusual. There are things about the gameplay you just have to lean from experience, because a lot of it it doesn't work the same way as other games. This is deliberate stuff that is in the game on purpose (not just 'glitches' and mistakes). Some folk say DayZ is easy (too easy) but you might notice those players have usually been around for a while. One thing for sure - this game can get people very excited very quickly, and some go nutz-and-crazy and all-riled-up inside a week of playing DayZ. If you take a moment and find out about it (there's plenty to find out) you might decide it's a great game. - But no insult Jscaff.. some players blow their tops from time to time. Sometimes they are right - and sometimes they just ran into a problem they didn't understand and they go postal anyway.
-
That's why it is called "Spray and Pray" - you have to pray or you miss and wast a whole mag. Try going for "short bursts" and also check out "aiming while you panic" - it is a good thing to practice. Someone should write a book about it. I'll BET you were in third person, right ? The guy is at close range, he's looting, he's not moving. Look down your sights, aim at the head, fire two shots. Aim each time. Go find a tree, hold the gun at your hip and aim at the tree. Now without moving around, lift the gun to your face, see where the point of aim is now. Not the same place. xx Enjoy [edit] This is not a FPS shooter Crysis-style, where anything the screen crosshair is on at any distance you will exactly hit - (no insult intended, Jscaff) - the DayZ on-screen "targeting aid" is only a helper - there is a difference firing from the hip because you are holding the gun low on one side of your body, compared to firing over the sights. So the difference in aim point is horizontal too (off to one side) as well as vertical. You learn this (by practice?) and get used to it. I'm not too great at firing from the hip but some players are deadly hot snapshooters. There is also bullet drop and weapon accuracy built into the game. The "targeting aid" you see on screen has been tweaked a couple of times, too. Check the forums and you'll find the debates about it. ps - my advice (but it's just mine, others will say different) - In normal play, keep your sight adjustment screwed down to 50m - because about 100% of firefights take place inside that range. If you play with your sights set at 200m the bullets will go right over the head of a guy who pops up at 20-30m. This stuff is deliberately designed in the game for better realism. Some players like it less than others,

No DayZ is not a disappointment. and No I don't want to vote about it - what is there to vote about? * Is it a disappointment driving a car when you got your driving license 12 years ago or does it feel like it isn't ? ?Or do you mean - is it a disappointment they still don't have Orbital Strikes in DayZ SA even though I wrote to them about it in the Vanilla Mod already and twice more in the SA, and TOLD them not to forget, but even if they remembered they didn't do it - on purpose? Is it a disappointment you mention you "come by and check" but you only have 4 posts, and 3 of them are on this topic today - and the other one is about buying the XBOX in 2013 ? What games on your XBOX ONE that you loaded when you first got it are now a disappointment even though you don't play them much because you realize XBOX ONE marks a shift back to the x86 architecture of the original XBOX and abandons the more sophisticated XBOX 360 technology, and also makes do with an AMD Accelerated Processing Unit? Is it disappointing how much you and I both suspect very few folk will deeply sympathize? Is it a disappointment that Irishjake knows what I'm on about - he feels it as instinct by calling up the sight even if his Cailleach grandmother has to translate it all into Gaelic before he has the understanding ? I should (I must) continue, but something .. a voice only I can hear .. the voice, the řomani čhib... is telling me.. is telling me.. Yes... she is telling me Not to vote Did you know that ☣BioHaze☣ worships Kthulu but he uses the Modern American spelling and not the Ancient Spelling in his rituals? xx thanks PS = PILGRIM will answer all questions about the future of anything, including DayZ SA for only €18, or £14.32, or $20.408758 , or cross my palm with silver (ok.. or bitcoins) Don't worry - Dude, I am your Father. Search your feelings, you know where to send the Money. [only one question per player thanx. ]

End goal of the game? "PvP fiesta" or "gritty survival game"?
pilgrim* replied to WolverineZ's topic in General Discussion
Yes - never go to reddit (unless you're really stuck for sick laffs) - This forum is the real place to be - there is a lot of info, and many players with specialties and their own styles of play, and some experts on different subjects, you can find most what you want to know, people will usually answer your questions in detail, and point you in the right way, There are plenty of help topics, and tips and guides and warnings ,and stories, ideas, suggestions.. but the MAIN thing is that the real DayZ players are HERE.. Nearly totally all these people do care, and they may argue sometimes (or often) and can disagree strongly, but it that because they PLAY and know Dayz. They are definitely not here because they have nothing better to do except diss for an hour before bedtime.. So this is not a fanboy site and it's not a flame site.. (even if there is some of both). - the bottom line is this is the REAL DayZ site.. = Place to be Enjoy -
Scuse me asking but - Request by who? Do the Service Providers request that one of their servers stops being official ? Or does BI request the Sever Provider to stop providing a specific "official" server? The Server Providers hire their hardware servers from data-centers, so the SPs do not have control over the IPs for those servers. The IP will remain valid, and listed as a DayZ instance, unless the Server Provider stops hiring the server completely, or installs Garry's Mod (etc) on that server, because that sells better. * As a rule, an "official" server stops being "official" because the Service Provider has hired it to a client, using their fully automated software. The SP is not aware of which instance was hired out, or it's new status (private or public) until after the process is completed. Am I wrong? ==== [note: we say "servers" but we are speaking loosely - In fact we are talking about DayZ instances here, not the hardware servers that the SPs hire from data-centers and then install 5 instances of the DayZ game software on each server . The data-centers are fanatically dedicated to redundancy and reliability and never "take down" a client's server for any reason at all (except non-payment) and they definitely never mess with any of the client's data.]

End goal of the game? "PvP fiesta" or "gritty survival game"?
pilgrim* replied to WolverineZ's topic in General Discussion
No - the Server Providers get no money (zero) out of providing "official" servers - they pay for the "official" servers totally out of their own pockets. BI do not run the "official" servers. BI do not run, or hire, or moderate, or own, any servers on your list of DayZ servers at all, public or private or "official". Since persistence came in, the idea of "official" servers has become a lot more obscure. And pretty messy too. I'll find you a link. There are plenty - I've written about a hundred million words on this "server" topic and related "server" topics and Rules and and and and . I don't blame you for being a newcomer, and NO Insult intended dude.. But excuse me I'm just going to hang myself. AFK Enjoy..xx Pilgrim :) ___________________________________________________________________ 173.199.94.27:2302 << = THE HELPY HELPERS: FOR MERCY OR MAYHEM >> Play on an honest public hive server. Is it just me or are the servers empty?
pilgrim* replied to ToxicHeart's topic in New Player Discussion
There are a couple of lead-ins that might give you ideas - there is more in Dayz than meets the eye, some of it takes a while to find out a couple of these links are a little dated, but they will give you some thoughts: Check out Tatanko's brilliant guides to 'Wilderness Survival' and 'Hunting'(links above) - to name just one - and browse the beginners-New Players- section for solutions to questions you'll be asking by next week, and tips, and glitch warnings, and solutions, and cunning tactics.. AND look at Odin_Lowes photos to see DayZ like you never saw it before, through the eyes of a top photo journalist (an art war reporter?) - and Gews for totally accurate technical ballistic and weapons info . that's only 3 of the highly original players around here. There are more on the forum worth checking out. You will appreciate them. -

Is it just me or are the servers empty?
pilgrim* replied to ToxicHeart's topic in New Player Discussion
Well - firstly the number of players has dropped off at the moment - you can see this just by looking at he stats or by looking at the usual comments these days on the forum. I know server-owners who are playing some other-brand game more often than they are on their own DayZ server. (-) General reasons: This is partly because of the negativity and player boredom - after 2+ solid years of DayZ - plus after all the bad attitudes and arguments about waiting for the next patch. Old players have dropped out, and new players coming in are often wanting full-action FPS KOS fighting games, so they complain, they think the map's too big, and they don't take the time to wonder what DayZ is really about - they want to spawn with 1000 rounds and don't want to go looking for weapons and they sure don't want to do any damn fishing..(but they bought the game anyway). That is not everybody, not all newcomers (no insults intended, ok?) - but there is a strong element of "we want this game to be like other FPS games, so do it, what's wrong with BI?" Also there is a long-time ongoing problem with the way the server system is run. The Server Providers strongly want out of the original agreement with Bohemia. And many players have understood that the server "rules" are NOT enforced at all. This topic was not allowed to be mentioned (ever) on the forums until recently and threads were insta-banned for speaking of it. Now talk is "tolerated" but too late, and nothing foreseeable will change this situation. Together, these two things (the new dissatisfaction, public "exploit-servers" and the large growth of member-only private servers) have altered the game very seriously from its original aims and concepts. The game has changed: One example - Death and your gear were major game elements, now they are a joke for 70% of players. And if 70% play in a certain way - then that IS the Game. So a lot of players are put off and play much less, OR some have moved to safe private membership-only servers. Also a large mass of the players who still play are using the "server-exploit" as a normal play style. And I said, the way the majority play IS theGame. (Check out GTA to see what I mean). AND (just so it is said) BI will not ever host their own "official" servers after 0.1 and modding arrives. This will not happen, they don't have the structure and there will not be any miracle). So we will see 'vanilla' public servers shutting down, and modded private serves multiplying, until they go the same way as they did in the original Mod. Also, If ( i say IF) BI opens modding to 'outsider' server owners the Big 5 SPs will close down all the "official servers" immediately. BI can not replace those. (1) OK we start with something simple: Gameservers do not like daylight players. I count 79 Gameservers "official servers" across Europe last month - all run 24/24 on local time - so after 6 pm (1800h) these are ALL DARK. So you play their "official" only weekend and you stop at 6pm, or you just don't go there. The same goes for USA and the rest of the world - all the Gamesevers "official" public servers are set to be night for ALL THE TIME that most people play (all peak playing hours worldwide) I think it is a smart move that Gameserves have done this to make SURE that EVERYONE who comes home from School or comes home from Work can only play in COMPLETE DARKNESS on all the Gameservers' Public DayZ servers in the world. And I wonder that SP does it? What are they aiming for? Is it to discourage players from "official servers" ? Because Gameservers don't get paid for those (the cash comes out of their own pocket). After 6pm they have 1-3 players max per server, on every one of 70+ servers in Europe. Same for the rest of the planet. Note - Gameservers are the first SP so far, to say in public on their site that: They do not enforce any"rules" at all about anything that happens on any of their servers. They state that is NOT their problem, they say 'complain to the server owner.' That's written in black and white. So complaints about unfair server moderators to them, are ignored [their statement]. Officially they are NOT listening. This the SPs attitude, officially openly stated now by one of them, and common knowledge.. So... Now let's mention the public servers (not the "official" severs) just standard public DayZ servers: (2) There are a hell of a lot of public 'kick-servers' with only1-3 players on them (you join=you're kicked). These are now about half of the public servers. Sometimes you're lucky, the admin isn't around to kick you by hand and you can even stay in for an hour or so (but at popular gaming hours you'll be kicked in 30 seconds to 5 minutes). Because these are not "real" clans (in my opinion they are just kid exploiter gangs of maybe 2 or 3 players) they usually have only a couple of players online. Sometimes there's an auto-kick running (now there are a lot of those) on the public server, so you'll be kicked as soon as you try to log on. Those are popular and easy to install. Some do it just to have a whitelist for their own "piss-off" server at a lower price than paying for a private server. But mainly "clans" do it to loot farm - So usually when you see a public server in daylight with only 1or 2 players, you WILL be kicked. (2 times out of 3). It is a loot farm. Most players know this and don't bother to log on except to known "good" servers, it wastes too much time. The third thing that public administrators also do is turn OFF the public server when the admin is not playing (he can do that). So he only turns it on for a couple of hours when he's online. I know one server with only one player - ever - (I notice HIM because I don't like him, OK?) There are others. He comes on line a couple of hours max on friday night to loot up before he goes to play "look-at-me-I-dont-care" on the other public servers. That's like getting your instant load-out to play Battlefield. He turns his public server off behind him when he goes out to play the public hive. That way his 20 tents and all his loot is safe till he wants a new load-out. OK Now - Add all that in with this - There are two or three in Europe (and really only a handful worldwide) of 40/40 public servers or 40/40 private 'open' servers tht anyone can join.. and including them if you work out the average on ALL servers you get a usual evening server load of around 7 players. So 15 players is already a LOT of players on one server, and there are not so many of those that will let you in. (Also remember - for every server with 15 players, there are between five or seven with 3 players or less). So there's an explanation. What to do about it? - Play a private server (with the same people every week, if you like knowing everyone on the server) - Take your chance with the low-medium pop public servers (risk getting kicked every 5 mins, or just not ever getting in) - Play always in the dark on the 100 nighttime "official" servers with your gamma turned up forever, or play fair in the dark all your life (but you won't meet many folk) - Play on daytime"official" servers but know that all your tents, stashes, cars will vanish any time the SP re-hires the server (it's automatic so you'll get no warning) - Play the 40/40 servers full of mil-gear guys who die and gear up again in the time it takes to log back to their "exploit server" - Find an Honest Public Server - run by honest mods - there are very few, but there are some around. They may not have a lot of players (depends) and as I said 8-15 is already truly high-pop, statistically. But they play DayZ how it was intended *** Hope that helps you a little - sorry to be boring (again). I did a lot of statistical work since early last year on server populations, peak play hours (worldwide) and checked on the enforcement of server rules, and how many "server exploit" kick servers run regularly, how many admins and friends run those, how they remain anonymous, the average size of an 'honest' clan and an 'exploit clan', and the number and populations of private servers.. ya know.. I checked the SP's and how many people worked for them, how much they pay to hire their servers (they don't own any of their own) how many instances of DayZ they ran, how they deal with "official serves" and why those are not reliable, how they answered e-mails, what their staff job descriptions were, I went through the hacker sites and blogs, I checked on auto-kicks, I searched the whole web for any players who had been banned or sanctioned for Anything except BattlEye violations.. etc, etc.. And researched and took advice how could you sanction a moderator (the SP client) if you wanted to? BI can't do that. I spent a long while finding out how difficult that is, and why no one is trying, and if they did try - why they fail. This is investigative journalism and math - because the guys who are pulling these stunts, and there are a LOT of them, have redesigned DayZ to be the way they like to play it - they know how and why, they can get away with it and they enjoy doing that, AND not one of them is going to talk about it or admit it on this forum. Result is - quite a few players still have subjective fantasies about what is really happening - and some - even one or two forum mods - still claim (in public) that they refuse to believe these facts are true. xxPILGRIM :) ___________________________________________________________________ 173.199.94.27:2302 << = THE HELPY HELPERS: FOR MERCY OR MAYHEM >> Play on an honest public hive server. Is it just me or are the servers empty?
pilgrim* replied to ToxicHeart's topic in New Player Discussion
If anyone knows any Honest Public Servers in South-Eastern US, please tell ToxicHeart and the reason for that - I'm going to explain in the following REAALy LONG text thanx: -
You're a survivor - so looking for 308 rounds gives you something to do for the day Take a couple of wire loops to make snares or a cord to make a fishing pole, or a stone knife to open a can plus a burner for a gas canister and a cooking pot (you can keep gear in the pot and water too, so it takes no space) an axe - and now your life is easy. Pick up a Butane canister on the way (there are plenty) and matches (easy option) make a couple of fishhooks from your first kill (that can be rabbit) make a backpack from your first animal skin, or a courier bag from a burlap sack while you're moving. Do the fire-drill thing if you want to be real backwoods (but the finding a gas canister and matches on the way is the easy option). Look at the DayZ (dayzdb.com) map to see if you can spot any place at all you CANT find .308 rounds ! I always travel with just one inventory space for those rounds - you never need more - about 15-20 rounds will last you for a week. If I have more than half a box I stash the rest. Remember a Winchester is a hunting/sniping rifle, not a machine gun - also it hits hard. Starting up I carry a Mauser (Red 9) until I pick up a Winchester, because the Red 9 is easy to find too (houses) and doesn't need a magazine (very cool) and 9mm is not hard to find either. For any ammo type you have to look a little carefully.. in corners, under chairs, on top of fridges, or spot those small unboxed rounds .. you can miss them if you don't pay a little attention. If you hop, you've got much LESS chance of finding those .308 rounds. * Now - If you'd asked me how to get your hands on a Fire Axe.. that would be more difficult. xx

No - and they already got 50% more cash for it. Star Citizen just have an experienced Pro Public Relations Team working for them.

Yo Funkmaster ! - your inability to grasp irony does not astound me. BUT.. I tnink you just missed the joke Funky - why be the skank on a humorous thread if you dont' get it? I'm following the OPs lead, that seems fair play ? My main point is - how are you getting on with the hedgehog ? Can you see it ? now let's calm down. Give us your contributions to the thread. You say the OP is humor (OK, we all got it), you don't like statistics (OK my researched and accurate statistics are around on this forum), you aren't interested in literature or the correct use of the written word (OK,that's your choice - I like the English language - you know DayZ has books in it?) - that's all fine. It would be great if you made a contribution to the thread, and I don't understand why you are chasing me around. My sex life is really OK already, man.. We can be friends but that's ALL. - unless maybe you're interested in real game statistics or you're a lady cyclist, hmm ? :) __________________________________________________________________ 173.199.94.27:2302 << = THE HELPY HELPERS: FOR MERCY OR MAYHEM >> Play on an honest public hive server. Leave your Gamma exact the same way as you play all day - just never touch it a all, day or night for week after week. This is how I do it. (end of story, I never touch it). Then you can see in the daylight - and at night's it's dark ! Everyone should play this way because it is a WHOLE LOT more fun. A bunch of fools mess with their gamma because they hope to find servers empty at nighttime. They do that because they are boondock hick yokel bums with no brains and no balls, pure and simple, and you cant do much about it - just leave them beating their meat and find an honest server to play on. That's my answer - I play nigh-time off and on, and it can get DAMNED EXCITING for sure.. it's worth doing! If you're in the USA try out the HELPY HELPERS server - they are honest guys (maybe one or too goofballs drop in sometimes - but not for long) Or for real fun and gut-gripping thrills, set yourself an objective - Start with a flashlight and a compass (maybe) and [normal gamma, no messing] and make your way from the SW corner of the map, down by Kamenca, and go all the way across the map overland from there N and E to Smirnovo or Berezhiki. Just to see if you can make it in the dark. You probably wont meet players and even if you do you can usually hear them. You are crossing an occupied enemy territory by night, by stealth. You won't regret that, I swear. The stuff you have to do to find your way and stay alive will amaze you, - ya won't forget it. But If you're looking for night combat.. then an honest server is the only way IMO Like VOIP, Gamma is something you do at home, it has no link to the game software - so nothing to be done about those dudes who want to s*** on their own games. Let them. __________________________________________________________________ 173.199.94.27:2302 << = THE HELPY HELPERS: FOR MERCY OR MAYHEM >> Play on an honest public hive server. Enjoy

End goal of the game? "PvP fiesta" or "gritty survival game"?
pilgrim* replied to WolverineZ's topic in General Discussion
BI has never claimed or even suggested they will ever host their own servers. How many servers do BI need to hire worldwide to "make a difference" in your opinion? It wont happen. Another thing for sure - If (I say "if") BI open the game to "outside" server owners to run mods, the Big Five SPs will drop the 'official' servers completely They are looking for any excuse now - "official" servers are money down the drain as far as the SPs are concerned. -
Simple Yes - but keeping players locked out of the game for even longer will raise a total shit storm - better to have some way of dealing with it inside the gameplay (if possible) Newcomers to DayZ would go crazy (it's tough enough already) - they would all suicide 20 times to find somewhere that looked like they know where it is. Mass Suicide would be the official standard for newspawn play Yes those guys are playing YouTube Online they are not playing DayZ , it's not the same game.

depends on the girls, really. Petrarch was in love with the same woman most of his life and described her hair, skin, the way she walked, (ya know) for years, but never got off with her, and if you share a little understanding - romance, right? - It can't do you any harm. There are girls who let their hair down go for the Renaissance more than they go for "Werewolf Vampire Shape Changer Dominant Explicit Adult" novels..And they are not quieter or more hung up and discreet and shy than any other human being you might share a passionate moment with - I swear - Also Lady Cyclists are highly deserving of respect too, and more power too them; Do yourself a favor, check John Donne "The Sun Rising" - one poem, only a page long, - at a good moment a mention can change your evening; it's about waking up in bed with your girl (not 'erotic' but real "intimate" ) and in the right circumstances a couple of lines of that on a card or an e-mail won't do you Any Harm... And that's the wonder of life, aint it? No point you going on how you can "eject a clip from an AK while you're lying flat but you cant do that with an M4" when you see that lack of interest in her eyes and she starts looking vague and checking out the other guys - right? You think this is the only forum i hang out on ? - this place here is about Survivors, among other things so Survive. don't limit yourself - everything is true -

^ Glad to see you're still around and trying to keep up, Dick - you don't mind if I call you Dick, do you? So what did you think of the Hedgehog ? If you have time, you should check on the difference between "Sarcasm" and "Irony" - Irony cannot be detected in text. And now you know something you didn't know until after you decided to read this line. -unless you already studied for your Semiotics 101. Sorry I can't stop to chat, Dick (Richard, whatever) - I'm getting ready for a seminar on Petrarch. He was the first guy who went up Mont Ventoux (without needing to: a first Tourist and also an early Humanist, nice combo!) - so he has his place in the history of the Tour de France, for sure, as well as in the poetry of the 14th Century CE. For me this is killing two birds with one stone - Road cycling ( a 1570 m ascent over 21,5 km .. a decent run ) plus a few drinks in the afternoon and a hot discussion of the linguistic foundations of the Italian Renaissance. And then probably sex. So until I get back, stay with the hedgehog and keep your eye on it. I'd hate him to be lonely xx P.
