    Impossible To Have Fun Anymore

The most interesting thing in ANY online game is the other players - That's why a game is online, NO other reason... am I right? or am I right?
  2. Exactly Zod - key point - So SAD using global comms (teamspeak) only between 'at-home-buddies' across the whole map, in a survival game. It is an exploit, end of story. Teamspeak users don't respect the game, but the mass gamer culture is "use all the exploits you can" (and screw the game). That's how it is. My way out (because I'm a FART) is to play solo and talk to players when I meet them face to face. I also don't have my own public hive kick-server to gear up, I don't dupe, and if you find my tent you won't get kicked for it ( and I DONT want a sign over your head to say you're the player who did it) .. I just play the <boring> DayZ the way it was <boringly> designed to be played. I want to be OUT THERE, alert and STRESSED - Damn, I don't even get a buzz out of shooting guys in underwear and dissing other players. ( jeez I must be DUMB, right?) - If a company want to build a game that MUST be played as it was intended, then they must build it Cast IRON - and THEN most people won't play it. Why? - because games without exploits and "advantages" and cheats don't attract a mass of people. The DayZ game is "the way it is", but a whole mass of players want to turn it into Team Fortress. and the way you play IS the game - DayZ is a game about << getting geared up fast with your mates and shooting stuff - there is a lot of crap added in but you don't get involved with that Bullshit.>> The same people who play GTA for laffs play DayZ the same way as they play GTA.. it's just hanging at the mall for kicks.. Damn, in DayZ you can't even get points or achievements or levels or startups or gear outs or scores or power ups, so there's nothing to do except act the fool and piss around ( .. so folk say). * BUT if you look through the comments, you will see that most of the long term players ARE pretty much solo dudes.. (good people!) I mean they make their own way - and THEY get the maximum value out of this SPECIAL game .. if they meet up it is with other players like themselves, not with their mates from school .. Hey, we could EVEN educate a mass of players to get MORE out of the game, more out of their LIVES, and have MORE FUN and better value by playing this SPECIAL game as it should be, instead of twisting and exploiting it into another standard lookalike. * I'm NOT complaining here (I'm sounding off) - I'm trying to state a fact - If I kill a player in a firefight encounter I have to get out of there fast - because USUALLY that =DEAD= player is telling his 5 mates exactly where I am and what I am wearing. So I already HAVE a sign over my head saying "This is the One" .. To be realistic his mates wouldn't even know he was dead until they found the body. And when players say they want to "recognize their buddies" - do they mean they play with buddies but DONT have teamspeak?... aint that pretty TOTALLY RARE these days ?? Hard to believe. In fact ASK the player who he is, and if he's not on your channel, just shoot him. That's how we play DayZ, the modern method. If there were some way of cutting out TeamSpeak and also keeping the servers FAIR - I would =LOVE= that - But the player base would drop by 50-70 percent. xx pilgrim

    All Time Low Population

I take the arguments into account (a lot of sense spoken) - but i have to say - in my case I've been playing "DayZ" one form or another for 5 years. And HOWEVER good or bad a game is. I can't spend my WHOLE life in the ONE same game. I played DayZ one night a week ago and it was just as "stress" as it always was - and that is the main point of DayZ, AND why it was designed, What's in it for me = STRESS.. But, hey, after FIVE years several times a week, how LONG can anyone play ONE game? .. hell, I'm playing 'No Man's Sky' right now; I think might hold my interest for a month of casual evenings (a month, not 5 YEARS).. it has NO STRESS at all.. .. (for sure, but ATM I kind of like it a lot) There are MANY new and upcoming INTERESTING games this summer, and there are also a lot of EASY games .. these all compete for different DayZ players. So BI seem in two minds if they should include features that are popular in "standard" games, or work to build up the unique (minority) originality of DayZ - which for me is the stress and the unexpectedness of every 10 minutes in the game. Standard best selling games usually tone that down quite a lot, they want it 'expectable'. But the bottom line is still - Hey guys I've been in this game for like 5 years.. ya know? Maybe the average age of players has gone down, they don't seem so smart or cunning as they were (sorry people) ? Or maybe I got older (nah) ? Probably with the long winter nights I'll be back to see what's happening. At the moment it's just "time for a change".. that's nothing to do with the game, really.. Many others must feel the same. I KNOW I already got more VALUE for my money out of this game than any other I've played, including one or two of the Greats. xx pilgrim

So, character resets are still a thing then.

'Means that Public servers - folk used to call them "official" servers - don't work right with persistence and *NEVER* will, alpha game or omega game.
  6. pilgrim*

So, character resets are still a thing then.

A "Public" server is a server set up by a SP company - they hire blocks of hardware server space, set up X examples (instances) of the game on each server, and sell them off individually as clients turn up willing to pay.. as long as an instance of the game is NOT sold it is "called" PUBLIC and anyone can play on it. This "vanishing act" was NOT Bohemia's intention when they gave out rights to SPs to install and sell instances of the game, and REQUIRED them to provide a percentage of Public servers. . However it IS how the SPs operate .. (it took ME about 3 days to nail this down solo two years ago, because I SAW this arriving - so I guess a Games Developer Team .. COULD have predicted it.. ... hmmm?) UNFORTUNATELY it did NOT Occur to anyone at Bohemia to write into the SOFTWARE (and into the CONTRACT too, why not) that when a Public (spare, unsold) instance was allocated to a customer - the existing GAME STATE would be auto-saved and replaced on ANOTHER Public server and those players INFORMED automatically of the change in IP to their new public server location. Before "persistence" it didn't matter a "lot", and by the time someone had noticed the OBVIOUS problem, "persistence" was on the way. BUT - this is not an extremely difficult concept for a games company to wrap their heads around.. and the software is not enormously complex - because (for starters) Bohemia record and OWN the gamestate of all players on THEIR BI server, which they also OWN .... therefore it could have been done, but was not predicted (except by me, yea!) and Bohemia were already on the road to private servers => Modding.. and THAT makes it easy and great for BI because it keeps them totally clear of the SPs, the extra work, and any ACTIVE support for Public servers. So if you play on ANY Public server it can vanish at ANY time because that IP address was only a PUBLIC Server temporarily and the SP has now SOLD it (hired it to a paying client) - it is now "privately owned" - even if the buyer runs it as an open server it was wiped when it was delivered to him. What makes this even more pathetic is the SPs signed to keep an AGREED percentage of their DayZ severs as Public (at their own expense) in the original contract. BUT there was no thought about WHICH servers would be public, and SPs can switch them around.. they hire a block of 10 server spaces in Australia, and 7 are sold and 3 are public.. then they also sell the 3 public .. so now they hire another block of 5 server space in some other place in Australia - Those 5 are all public until the SP starts selling them out to clients (which happens 100% automatically through their website) .. So they uphold their deal with Bohemia (there are still always public servers available funded by the SPs) .. BUT your last public server does not exist anymore, its been wiped and hired to a paying client - and/but you can STILL play on a public server (just all your GEAR has GONE dude..). QUITE Easily (I mean as "easy" as writing any other software function) and AUTOMATICALLY Bohemia could have arranged a BUILT-IN transfer of player state from one IP when it becomes "non public" to another where any "closest" Public sever is open, or a new public server opens, or someone stops hiring and their server becomes Public .. There are always Public severs in reasonable range BY CONTRACT. But Bohemia did not consider this. You should understand that the SPs do all this installation, hiring, setting up, selling, TOTALLY automatically and have NO idea which is public and which is private, etc.. - the average Games SP company has a boss, a secretary and ONE engineer.. dude (these are 5-people organizations max, typically) ... they do NOT do ANYTHING by hand in any of the 300 games they AUTO install and auto sell.. BI could have built that TRANSFER into the game but BI are really not interested in Public servers. end of tale sad tale, hu? XX pilgrim

So, character resets are still a thing then.

Starting again in your underwear is still the most interesting part of the game - it ought to be called the "endgame" xx p
  8. There is nothing to explain. Sorry dude, if you don't get the relation between "REALISM" in a game - to TS or any non-inclusive group/team universal comms system used the game, name messages at a distance used in a game, a limitation (built into the game by the designers) on the distance that speech and text communication can be used in the game, and (as exwoll points out) a standard reward-punishment morality applied to the game ... and 'realism' in that game, its because you ARE a BIT simple minded, You have 'problems' with conceptualization and acceptable holistic structuralist solutions (ie you haven't thought it through because you are a ground-up team player who habitually relies on other people for direction, and shuns individuality) - Also you have not read much/any the last 2 years of discussions on those CLOSELY RELATED topics (did you even look?). See You around. ps I am a POKEMON (classic) fan, I am also a DayZ fan .. this means I am a rock climber NOT a football player. Get it? exwoll says intelligent stuff and has put time into the idea, I like his presentation a lot but I don't like the concept (unless the name tags were voluntary, but that stuff is for ArmA, right?). The POINT of DayZ is you do NOT (repeat - *not*) KNOW your 'enemy' however long you have been buddied up - and in this game we DO NOT want a TS buddy to say "hey a guy called xwoll just KILLED me" .. You follow? - if you want DayZ to be even more Team Fortress, you can build an "old school" mod, right? xx pilgrim (Sorry to be so DIRECT, but 'simple minded' should not have been part of the discussion? I HOPE you don't really mean that about yourself? (A discussion includes DIFFERENT points of view, that's what it is FOR.)

    Can't find food?

    - fraid you ARE wrong about this kp, this is not at all how persistence works - the central loot economy keeps a certain category of item at about the same level (same number) continuously, but not instantly. So if you destroy 10 objects X.. somewhere on that same map 10 more objects X will spawn pretty soon, to keep the numbers for that object just about stable over a time, all the time - this is nothing to do with restarts. BUT stuff that you carry in your backpack or your tent or on your body is NOT counted in the total of X in play - it is counted as though it has been destroyed. The X in your pocket or tent is not "in play" so another X will re spawn to replace it on the map. So, If there are 1000 cans of beans on the map I can put up tents and fill them with 1000 cans of beans, and there will STILL be 1000 cans of beans respawning on the map - so I can put up more tents, gather another 1000 cans, and there are STILL 1000 cans spawning outside to make up for what I take.. even though I now have 2000 cans in my tents. This is what players do on the kick-servers, it is what the kick-servers are FOR. They can stock a LITERALLY endless supply of items, as much as they can be bothered to collect with no one disturbing them, - even collect a large heap of the so-called "rare" items - and use them for instant gear-up when they go play on the pvp servers. This happens to honest players too - they end up stockpiling. SO - If there is REALLY a general lack of beanz, it is because someone in 'Economy Central' has turned down the beans volume-control on purpose. It's that simple. Up at Central Economy they set the "total number" of item X, and "just-about" that number will always be in play (on every server), more will turn up when some are destroyed (not instantly) but enough so that the total always stays close to the set figure. On the forum there are topics of explanations and discussions about the economy from staff and players - how it works, how it is exploited, hopping, theory, stockpiling, - going on since last year. For anyone interested. xx [every few weeks i go back to the Mod to visit the zombies.. I like those zombies, they are my kind of people]

    New building-Sports store, hardware

sex shops? - you mean instead of the usual military gear you could dress in like total skintight black rubber with REALLY a LOT of ZIPS ?? And rub GREASE all over yourself so melee punches would just 100% slide off? - OK xx
  11. but if you want it realistic - why is there teamspeak in the game? I don't follow this. People want popup messages over the heads of players but they do NOT want global text chat in the game, but they DO want teamspeak AND they want a message to say if a player is a BAD PERSON or not? .. and this is an argument about realism? .. Why don't we also have scope messages that say "this player looks like one of your buddies" or "this player tells lies" .. ?
  12. pilgrim*

    New building-Sports store, hardware

exactly - I wrote that list off the top of my head in my room in front of the pc and thought "next time I go down to our local (one street) town I'll LOOK AROUND and see what is REALLY there - all that stuff you take for granted .. sounds like we live in a similar kind of area - if you want a building materials you have to go a few miles, if you want a new phone you probably have to go to a larger town.. etc etc.. but there are all kinds of outlets for everything, all over the place
  13. Are you SURE (life or death) in action at 300m you can tell that is definitely your buddy lying on his face crawling in the dirt, dodging about, in the rocks under the bushes, hiding behind the tree, sticking his head round the trashcan, running for his life - ?? wow! (makes wearing uniforms almost obsolete don't it?)- AND Take NOTE - in the game we already HAVE different faces, different clothes, different equipment and (you know the player) different ways of moving and acting.. if that TINY DOUBT left after ALL THAT ain't enough for you, then why not let's have a GENERALLY much less realistic game, (more like the auto aim and unlimited ammo games ) with different colored teams, different color flags over their heads?.. each bounty VALUE could have a different colored shirt, ya know?? .. etc etc etc .. we could call it "Bounty Hunter " Each time you hit someone you could see the hit points float up out of them -10, -20, -10... then there would be NO more after-the-fact arguments about if you hit a player or not.. (hey they could have a red line over their head hen you aimed at them to show how much 'life' they had left.. ??) .. FOR Myself - it would be better if there were NO NAMES in the player list AT ALL - just ******* BUT that dont make NO difference anyway as everyone who joins a game together is on team speak TOGETHER and the REAL AIM of DAYZ is to shoot everyone who is not on YOUR Teamspeak.. Maybe add that the more bounty you collect the faster you can gear up next time? or shoot a killer and he drops free guns or ammo or life points? .. this game was once quite original and wanted to keep away from ALL the OBVIOUS stuff .. NOW I'm sure Ive heard of games like this around before.. can't quite remember the names, there are so MANY .. little flags over the head saying the name of each player.. hmm.. where was that?? - BUT sure go ahead if that's what you want, makes me chuck up, but I'm just one out of a million, my opinion is worth Ziltch. I don't play a lot now because its all "gear up" [any way you can *cough*] and squad deathmatch .. Average player age has gone down by about 15 years, I think. Good luck to you all.

  15. what happened to FRIENDLY FIRE ? - I thought that was part of "REALITY?" - Remember? All that shouting "who are you?" - people running at you yelling "don't shoot, don't shoot, it's me" and then that stalking and whispering "I think that's the dude" - "Im sure it's him, it's him, waste the bastard" - "ok we got the wrong guy" .. "damn".. WHY should you EVER know who is some guy running across a field 300m away?
  16. No dude, EmuThreat - you plugged ypur Occulus Rift in wrong again; I warned you about that when you kept shooting yourself in the back, remember? with eyes that far apart, you just got to seriously adjust the goggles.. IMO using 2 pairs at once wont work. ( but forget it for tonight, meet ya in the Emerald City bar up the thread ) xxP p.s. note Bar Rules
  17. And your bought your brother in law! - So it's a round of pints for the table and 3 more bottles of the good stuff, thanx luv .. and could you do us fancy straws for the bottles please ? - it's turning into a bit of a celebration

    Modding should get regulated

Exactly. And the Pope himself banned crossbows as being evil modern cruel barbaric technological warfare (arms of mass destruction) back in 1169 CE already - and how right he was.
  21. pilgrim*

    Modding should get regulated

the "original" DayZ mod was a work of Genius - in the whole history of gaming that has happened perhaps 3 times total.. Everything else is just "mods that some people more or less like, or not so much, or some like them because no one else does, or they're actually great but boring, or just maybe - or kind of half-maybe, ok I like it because i made it myself, or you can act really zany or keen-pown-KoS for about a dozen days (if there's really nothing better to do) perhaps for laffs, whatever, or they're dumb, or just tryouts." Count on your fingers how many mods took off like the DayZ Mod. as everybody knows = = = = = = = = = But (as OP kind of mentions) maps on a private hive: - Two servers sharing one hive, and one of them having the standard DayZ map, and the other having a completely different 'modded' map could be really interesting for the players on that hive. Probably BI might take the view that you are either 'vanilla' or 'mod' but not a mixture; Still - two or three different maps on connected servers on one private hive, and the rest of the game all-standard-vanilla DayZ SA .. that would be Interesting, wouldn't it?
  22. pilgrim*

    Modding should get regulated

Epoch/Ovewatch..? in my view ..still limited.. limited.. not really attracting the masses we want ..Those two - and OverPoch - fell between the stools of - loosing the integrity of the original (off the wall crazy, bent, but real) while it was being massacred by hackers and - then not handing out the easy non-stop kicks promised to the bulk fun-player gamer market [" bloated armory and intense non-stop PvP, & throws in base building and trading .." quote from OverPoch website] so let's be real: When do we get the DayZ GTA mod ? that will pull for sure . (and scrap all this boring crap about reloading - unlimited ammo is the way to bring in unlimited players) xx

Player stats shouldn't show players killed

True enough - a book is a TOOL exactly the same as a knife or a spanner. If you want to get a helicopter working, you really need that <How To, Mechanics Guide> as well as a box of wrenches and a spare tail rotor.
  24. pilgrim*

Player stats shouldn't show players killed

taken together the whole of what you say is complicated - BUT the idea of putting two or three Survival Guides from this forum as books in dayz is a great idea. (BeanZ) No copywright issue (already) - and include the date of the guide on the front page of the in-game book, so players can see how old or how up to date it is. And the writer's name = Great idea I'll bet this would mean a lot more books would be checked over to see if they were one of those with useful how-tos .. beginers guides.. hunting tips.. Also this is easy to do - it is real easy to format a text as a book-with-cover and add it in with the list of books I vote for this one. Devs tell me the format parameters and which texts you want in book form and I'll do it myself, no charge, and they'll look good too. xx Pilgrim

Player stats shouldn't show players killed

yes - I just wanted to remember my blood type, ya know?... or have a fixed blood type that don't change. What's the big deal, I don't notice any important Rare blood types in this game so why not stay with the same one per player? You'd still need the kits to find out another charters blood type. And players seem to want to have all kinds of strange stuff written on screen .. If you can't remember how many folk you killed should it be on screen (you mean you really cant remember?) If you can't remember - man you don't want to know. Or if you cant remember your blood type should it be on screen? What's the difference between those 2 stats, in importance? Answer: If you can't remember how many folks you killed you are .. one strange dude .. but if you can't remember your blood type you're maybe a fool but you aint a psychopath. - or (put it differently) - How do you know how many k you walked in the last 25 days anyway (lol) do you count your paces? Or do you count them, but you don't remember how many you counted? * [DJN]J = A hospital wall chart of blood types is not a bad idea at all - GOOD - because it shows the cross-compatibilities of the common blood types included in the game (most folk maybe don't know about that, I hope the Devs got it right? Hell - maybe if you just test your blood type once, you should get a dogtag with it stamped on. xx = = = p.s. And in those stats we need how many chicken headshots you get, too - I hope we aint going to forget to put those chicken's head-hit-boxes in 0.6 or have some technical problem spring up with that, OR ELSE I'm going to stop playing and write crazy stuff in the <are you disappointed thread> along with the guys hanging out there already drinking cheap beer and getting riled up - And I don't just mean ME - I'm going to bring about two and a half hundred chickens with me too. And they aint easy-going chickens right now. How can you even play a game with no chicken headshot box and no chicken headshot count in it? You ought to be ashamed.
