1) Persistence definitely works on the now separate hive BI-run Official Servers - these are beyond 95% solid and OK ? (right, players?) For tents , barrels etc .. well .. some folk still argue about how LONG they last - Also some folk wonder Where the Hell you can find a barrel in the first place on an Official Server. My best bet is find someone's camp throw their stuff out into another tent (you a "nice" player?) and steal a barrel. I ain't seen a barrel in this iteration on 30 Official Servers in every location in 200 towns & villages. Most villages are stripped bare. But plenty of farming instruments, fertilizer and seeds around. Stand right under a tree in SHELTER when it rains, and watch your crops grow. 2 ) When the WOLVES find you .. you'll notice them. Maybe you should give the DayZTV Map a once over, a LOT has changed .. including industry, towns, loot, buildings, zombies, fireplaces (in houses), trees, disease, military camps, rivers, vehicles, rain, animals .. you name it .. mainly rain. http://www.dayztv.com/map/#4.100.117 xx pilgrim [ & too many towns ! ] Also seriously look out for cholera, wet clothes, and fast hypothermia, as well as wolves xx enjoy pilgrim

Easy implementation for better gameplay / replayability
pilgrim* replied to EngineerZ's topic in Suggestions
IRL - Cut 12 pine branches with the foliage on them. Lean or tie the thick ends against up the base of a pine tree in a quarter fan, make an easy waterproof shelter. Stay out of the rain. Keep some stuff in it. Hardly visible. AND IRL - 1 man pup tents weigh 4 kg, fit in your backpack (4-6 slots?) . Drab green or brown. Stay out of the rain. Keep some stuff in it. Hardly visible. -
Anyone left who likes jogging instead of sprinting?
pilgrim* replied to Jock McScottish's topic in General Discussion
bicycles DEFINITELY... most DayZ Mod players didn't touch them, but just a few bush afficionados were in the KNOW... THAT is a silent rapid all-terrain vehicle easy to maintain and simple to hide. You'd have to be a crazy no-hoper to swap your good fast pedal-bike for any super-inefficient armored Humvee etc -
Base building in hived servers after 0.63 release
pilgrim* replied to OscarBlindeye's topic in General Discussion
Well - they def can't be inpregnable while there are no occupants around. Logic. Otherwise some smart "person" would fill up the map with bases and then never use them. So you have to be able to impregnate them.. or whatever you DO, er. they cant be 100% prophylactically efficient, is what I mean.. without an extra UID passcode for the owner Then this game would get sooooo.. boringingly realistic. We'd have to shoot the damn capitalist landowners AGAIN But on the other hand, if all this CONTINUAL RAIN is caused by global warming, at least we'd know who to BLAME. - I'm just going to camp out in the maquis and pick em off as they come out the gates xxpilgim ( ps - my mate Charlie asks, if they have bases can we have mortars, please? ) -

ANy Idea of what happened to Official server UK 5-50 ?
pilgrim* replied to golgothe's topic in General Discussion
hmmm There WERE 12 GamingDelux UK Official servers online Thurs pm .. (Uk 5-50 had players' stuff around, I had a look around) ..er .. but there NOW seem to be just 9 GamingDelux Official online today (not 12) - Saturday 13:00 GMT .. (- Not 5-50, for instance and Not 51 and not 101 .. ) All the 5-xx I can see right now are 20, 21, 30, 31, 70, 71, 80, 91, 100 SO Maybe get EmuThreat onto this?.. put some BEAK into it. xx -
<ban.txt> : Sorry Soptan I don't have DaRT now .. I read stuff 'bout the "ban.txt" file in DayzTV .. As you know, if you "save" to a normal .txt file - like a Notepad save (do a test to check this out) - it won't save special characters, by default Notepad saves in ANSI ... but if you tell notepad to save the .txt as Unicode, the option is right there under the save name box. - THEN it is set as a Unicode .txt file, so in future you should be able to save any characters, just as you cut and paste them, with no change. I guess if you find the .txt files you NEED in the DART folder (ban list? & kick record?) and make sure they are saved in Unicode - To do this (if they aren't) copy them to notepad with Word Wrap turned off, then turn on (select): 'Unicode' and Save them right back to their original location - I don't think that should give you any problems with DART .. <but make backups first !! > So = FOLKS and NERDS and DEVS and MODS? = AM I WRONG ? or is it just THIS EASY to fix "KICK PROOF" name characters using DART ?? it sure ought to be. Soptan - it would be good to message to BATY ALQUAWEN (Community Manager). She's already up to speed on this problem, I think.. If you look through this SERVERS Forum here, e.g. search for "DART" you'll find other folk already talking about it. xx p
-
My thought - check that the ban.txt file is saved in Unicode, not in ANSI.. - open it by hand from the folder, set Unicode as the option, and save it to the same name. That should let you record any special characters. It will stay set permanently to Unicode in the future, so it's easy to test. Also - just shout "Dev! Dev !" - see what happens??

FKA SAK .. friend lose the facemask & a cheerful-check lumberjack shirt and pair of shorts is a good start .. maybe also with wellies (the green are best) Amble down the road towards them singing a loud happy old Irish ballad as you see them coming, if lumberjack is not your mode - go for old boots and bare legs & the blue nurse dress .. you facemask would make a bandanna that would be so right with that outfit. Also keep the pistol hidden - you can pull it just as fast if they get snide about your style. This dress sense has been known to work. But even when it all seems sunny, the noblest & best thing to do if anyone starts to get round behind you while you're conversing - is kill them first without hesitation before they can whack you .. then their buddy .. this really is the kindest and most humanitarian help you can offer them to aid their progress in life. (But look on the bright side - if you can sing in tune, don't forget to sing aloud that hearty wonderful-day-ditty as you stroll with confidence) xx

For the last 2 weeks (09/2017 Standalone) it has ALWAYS been a very rainy and windy night. = "soaked" - "cold" - "shaking" .. So you build a fire NOW and get dry/warm or you die. Then when you are sorted out - it is STILL a very RAINY windy night. Last night I had 3 hours on/off of what looked totally like (effing) SLEET. You move even 200 yards under FOREST COVER and you are already wet, cold, soaked, really cold, shaking .. wearing all pristine Gorka stuff, ushanka, new boots, raincoat - wow even the stuff in my pockets & the pistol in my backpack is wet (and stays wet for a day unless I deal with it) - then ...same again .. ..& etc .. So I don't know if you survivor folk (eg @harley001) are ready for bad WINTER conditions, & snow and negative temperatures. I may look like Hell but I made it it back to tell yo' NEVER forget folks, - " WINTER will freeze your Pumpkins " And digging up worms in ground below zero temperature? .. break your spade, bend your knife.. go ahead try it.. ground frozen, if any worms are around they will be about 3-5 feet down.. Never mind, you can always eat apples (oh, nope you cant, there ain't any) - and drink ice from the bottle that froze in your pack.. Keep a cover on your gun muzzle. Don't fog your scope. Always wear dry gloves. Look out for frostbite. Don't ever let your clothes get damp when you warm up (.. the usual) have fun

[Dev] Eye zoom 'probably' being removed entirely
pilgrim* replied to -Gews-'s topic in General Discussion
I meant you change FOV before you put your eye into the sight line - you can't do that anymore? I don't mean lining up on target and then using the FOV as an extra zoom after you are aimed. You can change the FOV when you are holding a Mosin in your hands, can't you, when you see the chance of setting up a long shot? - Scuse me if I'm wrong. It's not a thing I do. Do you have to restart the session to change the set FOV? [later: OK @DannyDogI checked, you can still set your FOV slider without leaving the game, as it always was. So there's now a return to a default BI preset FOV when you scope or ADS? ( - so your screen size really does make a difference! ) ?? ok.. with the FOV slider set to top or bottom, either, you can still keyboard zoom in and out. * Back on topic - I agree with Gews. His explanations are practical. (mine are cr@p) I notice I use the "so called eye zoom", a flick at a time, very often, its just natural when you are moving. - and I don't use 3pp.. I use it max once or twice in a play session to check my gear color against the background or for vanity (just to see what I look like), but never in towns or on the move or in danger. It feels right to be inside your own head and to LOOK - I fell into these 2 habits without thinking about either of them, they both come naturally. I didn't make a decision, it just plays right. -

About the screen size & FOV argument : - Has no one NOTICED that before a sniper takes his shot he will go to config/Options ON THE FLY and change FOV, narrow it far down to get a much better shot? This is a standard thing for some players. There is nothing can be done about this to make if "fair" for everyone - It's like turning up gamma at night, you can't force everyone to have the same size VDU, you can't set a fixed one-size-fits-everybody FOV in DayZ. For a long shot it is pretty standard to alter FOV before the shot. Several honest serious players do it (YouTube) - Then set it back before you go to loot or skin the animal. Takes one second, 4 clicks and you're back in the game, as easy as using the inventory Just my dime's worth to try to settle the screen-size FOV advantage disadvantage argument here. MEANWHILE on topic - Gews is Right. * -
Yes I think that's the whole list of standard FPS .. wow that was a lot of sameness. I played the originals through but couldn't stand any of the mods. Sorry.. I'm not one of those people who collect 15 or 25 FPS games all the same-same.. kind of "NOT a club member" right? .. I'd say "Saturday Nite Team Fortress Mod People = Groan" but I don't want to be impolite. I've known some of those people. I'm not one. Excuse me if i class those mods as games for kids - or for kids who want to be Pro Game Stars. - No offence.

[Dev] Eye zoom 'probably' being removed entirely
pilgrim* replied to -Gews-'s topic in General Discussion
<<Eye focusing is more like a Camera, like you said>> - No, in fact I didn't anything of that kind at all. <<DayZ is a game and there just simply is not a way to replicate real life inside a game>> - I guess you don't mean tennis ? If there is no way to do it why does anyone bother trying ? <<Everyone will be on the same playing field with this change>> - They are on the same playing field now. <<The 'Eye-Zoom' is not a realistic feature in the way that it works exactly like a Binocular/Scope>> - No it doesn't. <<if the DayZ Devs do decide to remove the 'Eye-Zoom', it simply won't matter anymore>> It will matter to players. It won't matter to people who don't care. xx you know a "cat" can' NOT see a prey close by that is motionless? - That's why the cat MUST wait to spot the first movement to spring. They are great at spotting movement within a "useful" hunting distance, but they can't detect motionless prey at close range (we beat them on that). They make up for it with a very fast and predictive compensation reaction time (they can already tell where it is going in a instant, as they see the movement). So what has this got to do with eyesight? (sorry dude, I'll let you work that one out .. ) I know that eyesight and the DNA-design that predicates eyesight+ and vision-processing as a high-level and very complex primary human evolved instinctive ability, necessary & enabling 70000+ years of uniquely specialized hunting, predation, and surviving - is a subject I don't expect players who "just play the game" to want to understand (why bother, it's just a game, games "can't be realistic"). = No problem.= BUT games develop, and get better and "apparently more realistic" all the time. Especially THIS game, DayZ, needs to have a strong direction and careful determination of what the player persona experiences, in game - That's NOT kill count, OK? I mean the player's perception., how much a player feels and acts as if INSIDE an environment?. Otherwise we should all go back to playing Zelda on Gameboy Pocket, right? What's the difference? Human eyesight simply does not work the way you think it works, but you can't SEE it. <lol> * * * * * * * Espa - maybe your time would be better spent getting 3pp kicked out of the game ? .. hmm ? * * * * * * * xx -
[Dev] Eye zoom 'probably' being removed entirely
pilgrim* replied to -Gews-'s topic in General Discussion
Espasa - let's understand this.. 1 ) You are looking at a flat screen maybe 40cm away, OK... You are ALWAYS looking at a screen 40 cm away. In the game, look at the trees on the horizon, maybe "2 km" away? - now look at something in your hands. Do you THINK your eyes have changed FOCUS?.. NO WAY both those things are 40 cm away and your eyes did not focus more distant or closer AT ALL.. That is in your head, it is your ILLUSION of playing a game.. the stuff on the screen is NOT 3D it is a FLAT screen and everything is always 40 cm away, ALL of it. 2 ) Look at a tree in DayZ, move your real head from side to side - NO PARALLAX - wow, this is a total fake!.. your brain RIGHT NOW Knows this is not a "real scene". your fore-brain makes up a story for you about "things that are little are far away" and "things that are big are close". This is because the brain-eye function (which is VERY SMART all by itself) has closed down because it is 95% NOT NEEDED, and it lets you get on with you complete fantasy that you are NOT looking at objects 40 cm away.. The brain-eye function goes to sleep when you are in-game to HELP you to live in that fantasy YOU have created. BUT in the REAL WORLD - GO for a hike in the hills, AIM down the barrel of a gun with iron sights - NONE of that IN-GAME stuff works, your brain has switched off "game mode" now and gone back to using REAL human eyesight - an incredible accurate deadly device evolved IRL for human survival. In the real world, if there is a dot in the distance, maybe you don't notice (don't "SEE") it because it's not moving - the brain "notices it in background" but if it MOVES, then the brain TELLS you to SEE it right away.. but that seems weird? - How come it is easier to see something that moves instead of something that is motionless - they are both the same SIZE and COLOR at the same distance? - (the easy non-technical answer is: ) Because the brain has evolved for 100,000 years to do this. And what is WORSE.. while YOU are moving YOURSELF, the brain takes a CONSTANT scan of "noticing in the background" even though ALL the background moves because you are moving, and compares it to the last scans, instantly, moment by moment.. THEN if that little object moves slightly differently to the moving background, the brain WARNS you immediately - then you SEE it (and that impulse is linked to another human impulse to immediately stop moving, to become invisible to FOCUS and to SEE it BETTER.). it is mainly the brain (not the eyes) that decides to FOCUS. - is this obscure? IRL Driving up the road, you LOOK at a road sign. You SEE that road-sign in MUCH better detail than the truck standing next to it, but your brain "knows" the truck is there ("already scanned, still noticed by the "background attention", recognized ") but you are LOOKING at the sign. Two DIFFERENT things are going on there (at least) - you can't read the truck number plate and the road-sign instruction at the SAME time, you decide which to SEE .. this is HUMAN Hunting focus, it is built in.. Put an "imitation" of all this stuff described above on a FLAT screen 40 cm from your eyes and +70% of your Human brain-eye operation shuts down. YOU probably aren't even aware of it, but your eyes don't EVER change depth of focus while you play.. So what is going on in there? All that amazing processing power is wasted. In real life look down the barrel of a gun over iron sights at a target 300 feet away In real life PAY ATTENTION to something you see 300 feet away MOVE up a hill, in the side of your vision while you are jogging along a track. Do those things and NOTICE (observe in yourself) what is happening; It is difficult to do this because we are so used to it we think it is "just normal" but it is 70-90% automatic & unconscious brain-eye action in the real 3D universe where man is a hunter with amazing eyesight, focus, simultaneous wide and narrow attention levels, and ranging - the brain-eye does all that and 'tells' us about it afterwards. You will realize, if you observe yourself while experiencing those real life things, that those events are Totally NOTHING like looking at a completely flat non-3D screen 40 cm away. Looking at that screen we are not using a tenth of our human eye IRL abilities. What Gews points out is there is ALREADY in the game a very SIMPLE technique for making that flat screen a "little" BIT closer to what is natural and instinctive for human Beings (just as it has been for tens of thousands of years). xxp -
Two things yo can do that cost a little time and no money: 1 ) If you get the makers motherboard series & number off the "old PC" board - it's pretty easy to find if you have a pen torch - then look that code up on the web to find the maker and the online PDFs of the board specs (there are specialized sites), You'll find the original specs and you can look up what is the Fastest CPU you can plug in (and other useful info). - and also if it will take 16 GB memory (thou probably not, but maybe .. you need to check that) - if specs say the top CPU the motherboard can run is a "top "end" dual core, then it's worth looking at Ebay, you can get the fastest dual cores VERY cheap ( recovered, second hand or from China, etc ) This is already an interesting upgrade. 2 ) THEN check that your graphics card slot is PCI 2 (came out in 2004) and IS DEFINITELY compatible with a modern medium price GPU. You NEED to know the card is compatible and FITS 3 ) Dont forgt the PSU.. see what the ratings are and make sure you know what they mean. You may have to change that (probably?) for a fairlly powerful GPU - also the newer PSUs have the cables and plugs you need - which the old PSU may not. - there is plenty of info of how to do this stuff all over the web, read around, you pick up interesting advice. This is worth doing just to see what's what, and to KNOW what is possible or not.. AND you finds interesting leads and suggestions. Then at least you can decide if your old "media box" is worth trying to find cheap parts to upgrade, or if it just really cant make it. PLUS = Checking this stuff out doesn't cost anything. xxperry * For myself I wouldn't EVER buy a new readymade PC for ANY reason - it's just not worth it. You can definitely always get 90% as good for half that price if you are prepared to put some thought and surf into it (and you need a screwdriver)

BUT YES, OF COURSE YOU DO, like the rest of us - Homo Sapiens have been HUNTERS for more than 100,000 years.. You don't have "robot eyes" or "camera eyes" - you posses Evolved Human Eyes that serve a highly specific purpose. After the 100000 or maybe even 200000 years of specialization, you probably don't even notice the real action of 'vision' in your daily life. - You don't have time. It's amazing what the brain can let you ignore. xx
