  1. Obvious thing you probably know - you don't have any auto-updates on or other background stuff running ?? Check nothing else is stealing your bandwidth in unexpected bursts. - like eg your PC background checking for mail every 10 mins, or your AV file-checking when you open or close a file (lot of files in DayZ). Many softs (Windows, Skype, Adobe, Nvidea, Corel, AVs & etc, you name it) do full auto-updates and auto update checks, with their default set to, daily, startup, hourly, etc.. unless you tell them NOT to - they start downloading in the background. That would do it to your game, especially Win10 update, which takes as much of your bandwidth as it wants whenever it feels like without bothering to tell you. Set it to warn you about new downloads but NOT download until you say so.. etc.. . .. & dumb to say, I guess you are aware, but make sure nothing else is running in the background and using the web while you play. I guess you're not playing across a wifi? .. No one else using the same connection, or plugged into the same ISP box, or downloading, on skype, watching TV, youtube, or playing some other game in the next room.. ya know ??

    That's what us "old school" folk love to do - we so GOOD at everything we just spend our time watching microtransactions on you tube, we don't play. I only play DayZ to stand under trees out of the rain, ya know? - there must be a THREAD about this ?

    Try turning the ping slider up to max (500) on the Server page .. and un-tick all the server options so they are all blank - then Refresh the server list each time you try - that will get you all the servers that are inside ping 500 range... I'm not saying you can play with a ping like that, but at least you know they are there. On my <Community> list with the ping slider to 500 - and with all the options empty (not ticked not crossed) I get about 470+ servers, with their pings listed from 31 to 390, and I don't have a "great" connection at all. It's a PC ethernet connection to my ISP box, and a standard 50 year-old copper wire phone line about 8 miles long to the nearest exchange. Playing through a wifi system & cell network is NOT the best. That DEFINITELY has "something to do with it" IMO. Make sure - for starters - you have no one else using that connection at the same in the house, nothing else running on your machine at all (no other sofrtware, no updates, no live antivirus file check, no diownloads, skype, anything.. ) and no other equipment connected to your 4G Lte at the same time you try to play. And also maybe it will work better at 2am. It's not a good way to go. So don't you have a fixed phone line? other people seem to mainly agree it's a poor and iffy slow connection, and expensive .. eg: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/783135-gaming-on-4glte/ xxp

    yes yes, statistics and mod plans directors and directions and promises and player fashions .. if we were experts at predicting that stuff wed be rich right now BUT microtransactions took over from grinding as a way to get "somehere" in a game without having to think or even "play" - you put in a few dozen hours breaking rocks to find gold until you have a heap of gold - you do it by pressing the same key 1000000 times - OR you don't bother boring yourself for hours 'wasting time' in-game and get the same result in zero time by paying cash up front for it. Either way it saves you having to play the bloody game, it avoids you having to PLAY or think.. A slot machine game would be cleaner - Say, one dollar buys you a hundred tokens and you keep pulling the handle (press Enter) ? .. er .. that's been done, hasn't it? But even that style of no-sweat & pay-as-you-go Pachinko doesn't appeal to exactly 100% of the gaming world. But in THIS case you want an FPS with NO other 'difficulty' except running and shooting. So if you want a nice gun, you buy one. Obviously some gamers in any game think "difficulty" and "boredom" are the same thing? Probably some folk can't really tell the difference? (that's their right, they bought the game). DayZ would get off to a faster (sexier) start if players could kit up in the BI Store right after the server listing - for just a couple of Euros - and then buy their quota of boxes of ammo before logging into the game.Right? I wouldn't play, but who cares about me, I'm just 1 player. xxp Guess it depends what you call a "game"?

    Well .. If you mean you want "Private Hive".. then under the <Community> heading, look at the option "Public" in the choice list on the right. Click once to get a green tick in that box - then the list will show PUBLIC HIVE Community servers. Click the box again to get a red cross - nNw the list will NOT show public hive Community servers - it will only show PRIVATE HIVE Community servers. If you mean you want "privately run" => "hired by a player" - ALL THOSE servers are under the heading <Community> in the server list . In <Community> all the servers listed are privately hired - (they are paid for by players). So a moderator on one of those runs his own server. Some are public hive some are private hive. Each <Community> server has it's own attitude to that. The servers under the <Official> list - are all run by BI on one independent BI Official Hive (they are all 100% public Official). You cant switch your same geared-up character from the Community list to the Official list. - but you also ask about "good" servers.... ?? If you want "good" servers... either go to places where there is the largest population listed ( - once you are in-game the players online are not shown, anymore, so when you are inside the game you can't tell how many people are on the server) OR if you don't want a high pop game, look around the <Official> list - all run by BI on the one BI Official Hive OR just WANDER around low ping low pop servers on <Community> & <Official> until you find a "good one" that accepts you and/or suits you. ... hope you follow that? Look at the options on the server interface, it gets easy. xx :: or maybe ask Emuthreat where he plays? - or ask Irish ? .. .. or plenty others .. Biohaze ? .. look around the forum (these people have different styles of play, maybe)

    Found one yesterday, Official Hive.. standing. Nothing in it.. looked pretty cr@p missed the point, of course.. I cant say it simply enough because you have already a fixed idea of "what is a base and how it works" You got this fixed idea from 100 games, NOT from DayZ. You have played DayZ enough to know that. - so I'll drop out of this non-discussion right now and let you sort yourself out. I don't like CURRENT THIS SINGLE ACCEPTED common "base" concept as it already exists in 150+ popular simplistic <<FPS BASE-BUILDING>> games. WHY ? - because they are all the BLOODY SAME is that hard to understand?

    I hear you. - It would be VERY interesting to know what BI staff use to run the game when they are testing in the office (eg glitch testing) .. or at home. And I don't mean when they run it directly on the in-office server or on the special development workstation rigs. Just what real PC setups BI staff use, what GPU and CPU and motherboard and memory. & what FPS they get, and their settings.. WHAT do they consider "GOOD" equipment for players (eg for themselves)? What have they got? They will all individually KNOW this and have their own "best settings" and "best performance" on real equipment. And they can quote their real FPS. This would be great to hear about. xxp

    Have you never seen a "ruined" tent? - I saw one yesterday. I asked a simple question. Seems like you folk haven't been following the BI thoughts on bases; even with the artists impressions, demos, rumors, and announcements.. So let's make this easy to follow - Emuthreat has a thing about doors ( that's no problem to me at all, he has a door fetish, ok it's his life) - BUT tents, which are a constituent element =ATM= of bases, and barrels are too.. they CAN be destroyed, or at least "ruined". We know this. So if you craft a wooden wall or a wire fence, or a gate, for your 'base'.. these elements are SURELY (Must Be) in the same category as other base elements already in game - ie tents and barrels.. how could they NOT be? So why this strange obsession that only "doors" can be - unpicked, unlocked or blown up - in DayZ? .. They can't be ruined? (you crafted that door) Wooden walls cant be ruined or destroyed? (you crafted that wall). ALL base objects are player constructs, erected JUST like tents, they are NOT permanent environment features. They are a different CATEGORY of object. A permanent game-environment feature (ie a house) you CANNOT destroy with an axe or gunfire etc in DayZ .. but player-related objects, such as backpacks, barrels, cars, AND - wow - other elements introduced to ADD to the existing "player-object" & "base" elements already in-game - they CAN be destroyed.. (obvious, they will be crafted too, right?) in THIS game, the stuff you even partially 'construct' (technically 'craft').. eg a CAR.. can be deconstructed, damaged, ruined, destroyed. You have noticed. Hence my QUESTION. A little thought makes it an EASY question, and the answer takes you straight to the OBVIOUS gameplay consequence. And the obvious gameplay PROBLEM. Some NOVEL SOLUTIONS would be interesting - to avoid the usual <<FPS with BASES>> games.. of which there are many! - and all so so similar! Thanx for trying to understand. Emuthreat try harder (0/50). also thanx for not answering the question.. folks .. I wonder why you can't seem to THINK about it. ask Brian H next time you see him? xx

    Object Quality

    maybe a dumb question but do you still have the option to play in 32 bit or 64 bit? Try that, see what the graphics do? also some of the other game settings definitely don't need to be maxed, they have very little effect on what you see; there are plenty of "ideal settings" comments around. (you probably know this) also you can mess with the GPU settings itself, instead of letting game settings override the GPU; I get a strong impression the GPU does MOST of the work in DayZ (?), more than the CPU. So look at what you can do with that. - eg see what Xtreme Engine can do ? also - final obvious thing, put the OS and the game and the page file on an SSD, and nothing else on there likely to be accessed. Use some other disk for your other files. A good (standard) plan is setting by hand the Min page file size and the Max page file size to the SAME value - this should give you a permanent page file that will not fragment around your disk) - I use double the Recommended Windows page file size ( 'exactly' double because it is calculated in whole segment sizes, whole segment access should read slightly faster) and (also maybe another dumb idea, but if you have the urge.. ? ) put another page file (double size) on another disk (your best other fast). So the game and the page file can be accessed both "at once". Try with the page file ON on your OS/game disk, and then try with it only ON your OTHER disk... (need restarts.. 'might' be interesting to see if there is a difference). I've also used a little second SSD alone just as a page file by itself. I'm not convinced that i5 or i7 performance makes a big difference to dayZ, (except in the speed of the bus, which is the motherboard & CPU, right?).. I run on a AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core, 6400+ - with a Radeon RX 480 8mb .. yes I do. Game runs ok in moderate to good settings, very playable.. At top settings the graphics look great but it's slow (or VERY slow) . So generally I play in 32 bit, seems to avoid overdosing either my GPU or the disk access.; on 32 bit I avoid the sudden occasional FPS drops/freezes that folk have complained about. This is all probably not useful to you but.; there ya go.. maybe some ideas xxp

    CAN you still destroy a tent by driving over it with a vehicle? Or has that been taken out? ... It is long long time since I did that... (Emuthreat , can I call you Luke? - it was long ago and far away .. ) What ways can you destroy tents - gunfire, grenades, melee weapons, vehicles ?? There is a reason for this question. xx pilgrim

    Are Hunting Backpacks Rare?

    seen two recently in military tents both pristine - but were perhaps dropped by players for something better? - but one had a can of spaghetti in it though, which is a sign it could have spawned there. And yes also in feeder shacks with the steps up to the door (also often with some object inside the pack) ? Is always worth checking old clothes and packs even if you don't want them, to see if there is something in there. * * [ Off topic ] - Can anyone can give me a rule of thumb de-spawn time on Official Servers ATM?.. When you drop loot (or pick it up and drop it so it's been handled) is there any general time period folk can estimate ATM before it despawns? I know how spawn distribution is supposed to work, I mean what is the "rate" right now ?? = it seems FAST = .. In my experience of THIS iteration, despawn time is pretty short.. If you walk away to a distance and come back in 10 or even (definitely?) in 5 mins it won't be there, It doesn't matter if it is guns or apples = same same .. really .. .. Anyone got a working expectation, or off the cuff estimate ?? xx pilgrim

    Me too... exactly, so no argument except the examples you give are cr@p They won't work in DayZ unless you want DayZ to be a cross between Conan with explosives and "many other games" I think it is the "many other games" that gives me the sh1ts.. sounds like Cholera.. Announcement: DayZ will be like MANY OTHER GAMES... And the FAN-BASE goes wild !! .. Hail !! Hail !! etc... the Devs wave, wearing red togas and crowned with Laurels... does nobody think there is something WRONG about that "many other games" line ?? ... And DON'T answer please ,sneakydude, dude!! - We ALL (if there's anybody here) already know YOU are happy about the Orthodox Standard Stuff that the kiddies collect by the dozens. So why not add it in to DayZ?? Problem solved ! Another cr@p game ! Just what we WANT ! I was trying to point out what's WRONG with the standard solutions .. But if that's what you love.. then you and "seen-it-before standard game-play" were made in Heaven together. May Happiness Forever & Love shine on you and find you lots of crates of BIG guns and fast ammo and millions of easy-build base kits and warplanes and score points and reputations and perhaps one day Conan will come play with you too and help you capture the flag? ps 'Dude, you know any songs from 'Frozen'? xxp .. byeee [Edit] : this post is intended to be STRONGLY stated but not offensive. - look at the games catalogue - all the games with "BASES" in them are 100% = Games About BASES = - there has to be a DIFFERENT solution here, and it is NOT obvious, else DayZ becomes another of the 200 <FPS with BASES>

    well - Mr, Exile Mod = 150 shit-tons of heavy weapons, vehicles, traders, armored vehicles, mines, crates, ammo, helicopters, planes, rocket launchers, fast easy base building, all the stuff "NEEDED" to make Exile base breaking & fast kills work, everything on a plate, worthless, glitchy, superficial, & bases even look dumb-ugly .. it's a play for lols game .. another easy-easy-play no-attention no-think no-effort shooter mod .. sooooo kid's game. NOT any groundwork there for anything, no excuse. Exile is NOT a place for rehashing Dayz SA, Exile just useful to throw away. The DayZ devs are NOT thinking THAT way <good grief>
  15. Yes, well (ya know, son ..) I live in forested mountains (France) and hunt with a 30-06, and that involves a LOT of moving, sometimes as fast as you can run around - like kilometers? - as well as stalking in very rough terrain (not a park and nothing open and clean like you see in DayZ).. I've done that; and know folk who do that regularly = in real life = I know of guys who will get up at 4 am and RUN up and around a damned mountain through pine & undergrowth and rocks in the pre-dawn to get around behind game (then when the day starts they come in work looking cheerful) - hey you remember the "The Last of the Mohicans" (1992 film) - they can run like that for a few miles with a rifle, no big prob, on 40% broken slopes through real forest. AND no one is shooting back at those people - That makes a difference to your attitude I'd guess? Check out WW2 D-Day footage and Afghanistan & Syrian footage - You'll see people RUN with a GUN for sure... they aren't joking. Aint nothing to do with parks .. its just a thing people can do.. You think folk can't run AND see? - Ask someone who's been in the military. have fun Hey, train up.. try running or biking or maybe rock climbing? You'd get a sense of what folk physically can or can't do. xxP

    I was wondering HOW you intend to make this "getting in/ locking out" of a whole complex "difficult to accomplish"? A key linked to a player UID is a REALLY bad idea. I don't think its ever been considered by anyone sane - for a number of reasons. Ask around. I don't use bases and don't intend to. They are not MY "precious". I am not excited about bases. They are in no way my bases, I am not/shall not be attracted to bases, except as a target location where enemy and loot concentrate.. I have an Afghan attitude to bases. I can see a lot of tears and rants coming up when the implementation starts and the problems become obvious. By nature I'm interested in solutions, it's my thing (pretty boring, hu?). I like stuff that works, especially when it looks difficult to make it work. This is a game-play hobby, - problem solving - seeing the specific problems coming up while everyone else is STILL cheering. I notice the practical problems that are going to throw cr@p right in the fan. Sorry I called you a dude - my bad - I guess you're not. I withdraw that insult unreservedly. OK mate? xxP

    Yep, it's because you need Steam open (loaded) anyway, to have their server link check on you and your game before you play.. it takes a moment or sometimes longer to open up. So you cant just set a < "do Steam" => "do play DayZ_64" > unless that command waits for Steam to be ready - that's getting complicated for a small advantage. But if you run Steam all the time anyway - by habit like some folk - you might just put a play64 icon on your desktop linking to that .exe I mentioned. At least you avoid seeing all the Steam window stuff again.. Sad, I can't see any one-click way to launch DZ_64 from the Steam options in the hot bar (their bad) - if you choose "DayZ" directly from there (on Win7 64) it just opens the 32 bit version. No choice except to through Library. Is a pain, I admit (now you mention it). have fun xxp

    why bother? you have Steam icon right there on your taskbar with the one-click list => Library, DayZ, 64 and whenever you open Steam Bootstrapper it gives you the Steam page with Library, like it or not.. Or set your DayZ start icon.. find out what serial number starts DayZ 64 like DayZ 32 is < steam:://rungameid/zzyyxx > betcha it's one of the last 2 figures sets the 64 bit... but don't blame me if it aint. Trial and error? If I have an easy better idea I'll get back to you. NO point in deconstructing the steam interface it just gets you a bad rep. xxP [EDIT] Yo, Komalt OK - here's a starter to your bit of string, but make of this what you will..     For a base, first you want a team = so this is a team play thing. The difference between a base and a bunch of tents is you have walls round your base, walkways, towers, buildings or shacks inside, parking, trucks vehicles = and a way of getting all that stuff in and out - we saw the artists impressions already, right? OK so to be perfectly clear there is NO WAY you can "lock" a base. Look at a base in any game ... OR.. LOOK at the real life USA bases in Afghansitan (on YouTube for instance) The ONLY thing that secures tha base is FIREPOWER... aint nothing else.. that's all from 0% to 100% what a base is about. Let's cut the story SHORT : Hey where I come from, here ever since before 500 BC - if you wanted to get into a fort, a base, a castle.. what you did was this .... (all ears?) You cut down a bloody pine tree and lop the branches off, then at night you lean it up against the wall or the gate or the watchtower and you CLIMB up it We've been doing that for 2000+ years and it has worked, still works, will always work..maybe use more modern equipment if you want, but the stuff you've had around since 2000 years still works fine... use rope and a grapple if you like.. or just CLIMB, ya know.. - ice axe, hay hook, crampons (dry tool it, dude) - So THERE'S the truth - any fortified place CANT be defended except by DEFENDERS on DUTY. If it is empty it is Yours, no probs. To EXPLAIN this, so you SEE the point -- how about putting locks on TENTS ??... -Im not even joking - Invulnerable Tents! - that would be exactly as realistic. (not realistic at ALL, but it's what you want? - a GUID-linked personal code for YOUR loot stash so no-one else can touch it. Now you've got an 'Invulnerable Lock' on the fire-base car-pool wire-mesh main gate entry? AND/OR on your tent zip ?? [ = same thing, same realism ] So there's no point in hiding your base anymore (or your tents, whatever), right? Leave that stuff in the middle of Novo or NWA and go off play on another server, collect some more LOOT for your invulnerable stockpile? Or maybe just never come back?? Players shout "base building" !! They are full of excitement. BUT this needs just a -LEeeeeeTTLE MORE- working out, first, know what I mean, dude? Even a "fanboy" (your word) spends 2/3 of his life NOT playing DayZ - so his base is EMPTY 70% of the whole time. You expect the bad guys to show up when your gang's all hanging out in there eating barrels of apples & cleaning their AKs, or when NO ONE is there? What time of day would would YOU show up? On a private hive mono-clan whitelist server these ideas could work? - Maybe? (boring & plenty of arguments IMO) On public hive, or the Official Servers? = No Way. - any practical suggestions? My family always climbed over the back of a defensive complex on a moonless night and cut everyone's throats - BUT then we had to remember not to get too drunk at the victory celebration, or the bloody surviving buffoons climbed over the back the next morning and cut everyone's throats... ( it's a kind of family tradition ) * * * A base has a STRUCTURE - made of in-game elements.. bales, concrete, wood, gates, doors, towers, corrugated iron, ladders, walkways, barriers, fire posts, sandbags, generators, refrigerators, Hesco bastions, electric lighting, barbed wire, camo netting ALL these things have to be in-game constructible AND destructible and that is going to be a hell of a problem. Any suggestions?? 1 ) DayzTV suggestion - "probably a 'different game module' " 2 ) 3 ) 4 ) DayZ basebuilding prediction from May 2016 + BI artist impressions ..eh.. ? xxP

    Open your Steam Library from the task bar, click on DayZ - you get the option Run DayZ or run 64 bit DayZ xxp

Cut a hole the same size as your monitor in a big sheet of card - now go around holding it 40 cm in front of your face and only look at the world through that hole. make yourself a box to close off the rest of your vision if you want.. You'll soon get a strong impression you are REALLY NOT using your eyesight properly. (maybe don't try this at home - kids, & please don't cross any streets like that)

    So .. this is not too realistic.. hmm? EITHER the lock is linked to the players GUID.. so if he never comes back or leaves the game, the base stays locked forever? Or else the base vanishes if the "owner" doesn't use it for a month - otherwise every big town will be full of useless bases set up by players-for-kicks, that no one can ever get in to? OR the "lock" is a real DayZ object, so you can kill the player, then he has no lock for "his" base. Or you loot & steal his lock. Then it's your base. The "lock" is on some kind of "gate" right? - and inside there are tents, trucks, etc in a large space ? Please don't tell me that IRL a deserted base with a "locked" front gate is IMPOSSIBLE to get into?? .. that only happens in Games about the Flintstones and Asian Teen Butterfly Games, ya know? Dayz got no plastic explosives, bolt cutters, earth movers, crowbars, grappling hooks, ladders, sledge hammers, lock kickers, chainsaws? .. all THAT stuff is unrealistic ?? Aint NO BASE ever EXISTED you couldn't get into, unless someone inside is shooting at you. Who needs a "key" ?? xxP
